- ROAN MOUNTAIN — Mr. Blaine Robert Boone, 88, of Roan Mountain, TN died Saturday, October 30, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a lengthy illness.
A native of Roan Mountain, he was the son of the late Hector and Eugenia Julian Boone. Mr. Boone had retired as owner and operator of the Roan Mountain Grocery. He had served as president of the Roan Mountain Water Authority for many years and had been president of the Roan Mountain American Legion Post #229.
Mr. Boone attended Heaton Creek Holiness Church and the Roan Mountain Church of God. He was a U.S. Army veteran having received the expert infantry badge, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He loved his family, the people of Roan Mountain and his many friends, gospel music and animals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gibbs Boone; five brothers, Crumley Boone, Oran Boone, Ivan Boone and Forrest Boone; an infant brother and by two sisters, Okla McHone and Mary Andrews.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Fleenor, Hampton, TN; two granddaughters, Jennifer Sizemore and husband Tony, Gray, TN and Teressa Fleenor, Johnson City, TN; six great-grandchildren, Marah Sizemore, Evan Sizemore, Elissah Sizemore, Lydiah Sizemore, Holly Bumgarner and husband Tony and Nathaniel Martin; two great-great-grandchildren, Adrianna Bumgarner and Chloe Bumgarner. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Blaine Robert Boone will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Monday, November 1, 2010 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Lusk, Rev. Ronnie Lackey and Rev. Roy Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7:30 P.M. on Monday prior to the funeral service.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in Johnson-Roanview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his many friends. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. on Tuesday for the graveside service.
