- Mrs. Helen C. Treadway, 85, Hermitage Health Care Center, formerly of Bradley Street, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Jesus, and to join her husband Guy on Monday, February 09, 2009, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Treadway was the daughter of the late Henry and Kate Scalf Russell and was a native of Carter County. In addition to her parents and her husband, Guy Treadway who passed away on June 4, 1999, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Luther Russell, Hurbert Russell and Robert Russell.
Mrs. Treadway was a member of Charity Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Bemberg and was a homemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a caring sister. She always put her family before herself.
She is survived by five daughters; Brenda Adams, her roommate at Hermitage Health Care; Doris Treadway, Elizabethton; Teresa Ballard and her husband Ray, Penny Sams and her husband, Johnny, Cathy Kent and her husband Ronald, all of Elizabethton; two sons, Larry Joe Treadway and his wife Donna, Watauga and Tom Treadway and his wife, Barbara, Johnson City; twelve grandchildren; fifteen grand-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ethel Barnett, Lela Davis, Elizabethton; two brothers Bill Russell, Elizabethton and Harry Russell, Piney Flats. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Treadway will be conducted on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at 7:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with rev. Steve Burleson and Rev. Carl Grindstaff officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service and at the home of a daughter, Teresa Ballard, 719 Sugar Hollow Road, Elizabethton at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Thursday, February 12, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be Jessie Treadway, Keith Treadway, Guy Sams, Tommy Sams Brandon Treadway, Bobby Ballard, Chris Sams, Mickey Campbell and Johnny Sams. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
