Kathleen Elgitha Brown, born February 25, 1918, in Abilene, TX, was the firstborn child of Eula Mae and James (Jim) Wilson Owen and died June 30, 2011 in Mesa, AZ. She and her family moved to Portales, NM, when she was a young child, and she attended the Portales Schools. Mrs. Brown worked at the J. C. Penney's store in Clovis, NM, for several years. In 1946 she moved to California, where she continued to work for the company. She retired after 25 years of service. For many years she lived in Stockton, CA, but in the late 1990's she moved to Mesa, AZ.
When she was 65 years old, her high school sweetheart, Bob Brown, researched her whereabouts, and they reconnected. They were married for over 20 years before his death on February 7, 2005. They enjoyed dancing and doing many things together. Mrs. Brown was always a very well dressed and pretty lady. In recent years she had become an avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks. She loved country music, and Josh Turner was her idol. After attending one of his concerts, her son arranged for her to go backstage and meet Mr. Turner. This was definitely one of the highlights of her life. She also enjoyed playing Wheel of Fortune at the casino.
She is survived by one daughter, Patsy Ann Dewbre of Clovis and one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Alfred and Vicki Cary of Mesa, AZ; a step-son, Jerry D. Brown of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; a step-daughter, Priscilla L. Zaninovich of Bakersville, CA; 11 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; a brother, Sharbutt Owen of Colorado Springs, CO; and three sisters, Bonnie Seal of Portales, Marie Henson of Phoenix, AZ, and Letha Erickson of Glendale, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides Mr. Brown, she was preceded in death by a son, Sidney Raymond Cary, who died earlier this year; a step-son, Rod Brown and a sister, Shirley Heisch.
