- Carroll E. Stout, age 88, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Hospital following an extended illness. He was a Johnson County native born August 3, 1925, a son of the late Asa and Eula Proffitt Stout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Asa Stout, Jr., Chalmas Stout, and Lowell Stout.
He was a graduate of the Watauga Academy and was a World War II veteran having served in the Marine Corps. He retired from Burlington Industries. He was a member of the Doe Valley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 for fifty-nine years.
Carroll is survived by his loving wife of 67 and ½ years, Alice Hicks Stout of the home, daughter, Linda Stansbery of Mountain City, TN, sons Dennis Stout and wife Kathy of Mountain City, TN, and Wayne Stout and wife Judy of Elizabethton, TN, sister, Pat Long and husband J.R. of Shady Valley, TN, grandchildren Mitchell Stansbery and wife Penny, Stephani Jarnigan and husband Josh, and Michael Stout, great-grandchildren, Carlisle and Jansen Jarnigan, and Joe Stansbery, special friends, Hilah Coleman and Gail Miller, and several nieces and nephews.
