- MOUNTAIN CITY – Edna D. Arnold, age 89, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina.
Mrs. Arnold was born on December 20, 1919, in Mountain City, Tennessee, to the late James (Jim) and Tishia Tilley Howard. She enjoyed church activities, quilting, crocheting, knitting, garden work, canning and her flowers. She was a member of Roan Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her husband, Herman W. Arnold; one sister, Pearl Elsie Taylor; three brothers: Fred, Russell and Glen Howard; and a grandson, Travis Phillips.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth "Louise" Phillips and husband, Dale, of Mountain City, TN; three sons: Albert Glen Arnold and wife, Sarah, Raymond Claude Arnold and wife, Joan, and James "Willie" Arnold and wife, Millie, all of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren: Steven Arnold, of Lenoir, NC, Dawn Oswald and husband, Dean, of Houston, Texas, Tishia Tedder and husband, Daniel, Raina Sluder and husband, Craig, Eddy Phillips and wife, Amy, and Kevin Phillips, Jeffrey Arnold and wife, Cheryll, all of Mountain City, TN, Stefanie Arnold, of Atlanta, GA, and Wesley Arnold and wife, Sybil, of Hendersonville, NC; great grandchildren: Kalli Sluder, Dalton Sluder, Chase Phillips, Tyler Phillips, Luke Phillips and Parker Derry; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009, from Roan Creek Baptist Church.
A Funeral Service will follow at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday with Pastor Harry Cunningham and Rev. Derl McCloud officiating.
Music will be under the direction of the Roan Creek Baptist Church Choir and special music by Rev. Derl McCloud.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, from the Dunn Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Deacons of the Church: Tommy Nelson, Bob Heck, Wade Thomas, Junior Eastridge, Tommy Wallace and Charlie Woods.
