I'm selling two Bibles which were printed before the Civil War even began, in 1848. Both look to have survived fire and water. Both contain artifacts ranging from newspaper clippings to braided strands of hair to a foil-like substance turned to ash by the heat. One contains a genealogy of Captain Samuel Dunn and his family. One artifact is a general store's ad which says "Vinita, I.T." Meaning the Bible's owner lived in Oklahoma when it was still Indian Territory.
More info:
the family bible of Samuel Dunn, who was born in 1791 and died- as the book records- on Saturday night, 9 pm, June 5th, 1869. The Bible appears to be most specifically his wife's- Jane L. Maday Dunn, who died in 1861 aged 67 years.
They had eleven children, listed exactly as follows:
E.H. Dunn was born July 1818
W.M. Dunn was born June 1820
J.L. Dunn was born August 1822
J.H. Dunn was born October 21st, 1824
L.S. Dunn was born January 1826
J.B. Dunn was born January 5th, 1830
M.M. Dunn was born August 1832
Mary K. Dunn was born February 10, 1834
D. J. Dunn was born July 10th, 1836
Jenevieve Dunn was born January 1837
James B. Dunn was born June 1842
On Marriages, as clearly as I can read the handwriting, it says:
Married 22 May 1817 by the Rev. A.A. Mc Gimley
Capt. Samuel Dunn to Miss Jane Maday
Married 22 June 1835 by the Rev. A.A. Mc Gimley
James H. Bard of Mt.Pleasant to E.H. Dunn daughter of Gen. S. Dunn of Carruck, [Turner? Tennessee?]
Married 7th August 1857 by the Rev. Alckibald A. Doak
James P.J. Carter of Elizabethtown, Tenn to Margariette Maday Dunn daughter of Gen. S. Dunn
... in the deaths it later states M.M. Carter died August 31st, aged 24 years
Cities mentioned in handwriting within the book are Carruck, Whitesburgh, Elizabethtown, and Mt. Pleasant.
