- Mrs. Ethel Pierce Hinkle, 84, of 1111 Broad Street, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, December 12, 2008, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Hinkle was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Ollie Collins and Lula White Pierce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Hinkle; by an infant son; by one brother, Spencer Pierce; and by four sisters, Shirley Pierce, Lena Ward, Marie Smith and Dorothy Lee.
Mrs. Hinkle was retired from American Bemberg Corp. with 32 years of service. She was a member of Pierce Baptist Church and had attended Union Baptist Church. She loved her church and her family.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Eddie and Randy Lewis, Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Jessica Brooke Lindsey, Johnson City; one brother, Haskell Pierce, Butler; several nieces and nephews; her special companion, Cody Lewis; and her many friends.
The funeral service for Ethel Pierce Hinkle will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, December 15, 2008, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev Harvey White and Rev. Pete Pollard officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday, prior to the service, and at the residence of her daughter, Eddie Lewis, 1111 Broad Street, Elizabethton, at anytime.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 16, 2008, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Pierce, Ray Lewis Jr., Rev. John Hammett, Larry Taylor, Wayne Johnson and Carl Grindstaff.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mark Williams and his staff, Dr. Michael Keith, Dr. Carmina Garcia and the staff of Burgie Drug Store.
A special thank you to her caregiver and friend, Debra Bridgeman; a special thank you and our love to Evelyn Estep and her son, Daniel.
Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
