- Ruth Wilson-Arnold, age 85, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born on May 3, 1925 in Trade, Tennessee to the late Marvin S. and Freda 'Mammy' Parks Wilson. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Russell Arnold, who passed away on March 11, 2009 and one daughter, Jo Ann Powell.
Her siblings included: Helen Louise Wilson, Vernie Potter, Vergie Eggers, Nancy Stout, Little Grace, Kermit Wilson, Roby Wilson, Elwood Wilson and Allen Wilson.
Ruth traveled as the wife of a career Army soldier, living at various times in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Germany, before settling with her family in Butler, Tennessee in 1968.
Ruth is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Charles 'Jack' Wilson of Lawton, Oklahoma; Perry and Sandra Arnold of Bedford, Kentucky, and Ross and Carolyn Arnold of Ajijic, Mexico; son-in-law, James Powell of Somerset, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 10-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Alan Koch and Pastor Ross Arnold officiating. Music was under the direction of the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church Choir. Graveside Service and Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park. Active pallbearers: Brent Powell, Keith Wilson, Danny Ray Wilson, Harry Pierce, David Markland and Thomas Hoelscher.
Toward the end of her life, Ruth was lovingly cared for by Goldie Reece, Susan Williams and Belinda Johnson. Your kindness and compassion given to Mom are deeply appreciated.
