- John McKinley Rainbolt, 91, Hampton, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Alvin and Lilly Ward Rainbolt. He had lived most of his life in Carter County. Mr. Rainbolt was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a life long member of the Union Baptist Church. Mr. Rainbolt served in the United States Army during World War II. During his time in the service he was stationed in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Payne Rainbolt, September 14, 2002 and six brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son: Kenneth Rainbolt, Hampton. Three Grandchildren: John Patrick Rainbolt, Vernal, Utah, April Rainbolt Smith and husband Ben, Elizabethton and Kevin Rainbolt and wife Gabrielle, Spring Hill, Tenn. Six Great Grandchildren: Jacey, Savannah, Hannah, Taylor, Autumn and Kenley. A Sister: Betty June Stout, Morristown. Several Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Danny Bright officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday will be: Patrick Rainbolt, Kevin Rainbolt, Steve Rainbolt, E.C. Vines, Ray Arnett, Jack Ingram, Ben Smith, and David Pierce. Honorary Pallbearers will be: His Church family, Herman Tolley, Bud Grindstaff and Willie Gleaton.
The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Dr. David Fenner, Dr. Scott Caudle, Dr. Robert Walter, and Dr. Khan and his special nursing staff of ICU especially Ashley, Ken, Wayne, Debbie & Amanda.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his son, Kenneth Rainbolt 326 Mountain View Drive, Hampton. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion & Tennessee National Guard.
