- Emil "Lavon" LoPour, 83, of Farmington, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015, in Farmington. He was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Snyder, Texas, the second child and first son of Emil Frank and Edna Leah LoPour.
Lavon graduated from Portales High School in 1950. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. In the 1950s he attended and graduated from the Kingdom Ministry School of Jehovah's Witnesses in Brooklyn, N.Y. Lavon was the owner of Lavon's TV and Curtis Mathes Home Entertainment Center from 1958 to 1994.
He enjoyed teaching the Bible, collecting cars and music.
Lavon married Letha Faye Hawks on July 15, 1950, in Portales. They were married 57 years. His beloved wife preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 2007. He is survived by one brother David Lee LoPour of Lovington; one sister Wanda R. Harbert of Salida, Calif.; one daughter Theresa D'aun Nolen of Farmington; one son Michael Kim LoPour of Silver City; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 5661 College Blvd. in Farmington, with Anthony Payne officiating.
