- "William (Bill) White, 80, Rt. 3, died in a Knoxville hospital Monday evening following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, Mr. White had lived in Johnson County for the past 45 years. He was a retired employee of Tennessee Chair Co. and a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Callie Matherly White; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Doris Wolfe, Rt. 6, Johnson City, and Mrs. Jewel Dean Vines, Rt. 3, Butler; four sons, Herman and Ted, Atchison, Tex., Clifford, Minneapolis, Minn., and Charles, Butler; one sister, Mrs. Sally Campbell, Elizabethton; 27 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Hathaway-Percy, Elizabethton, in charge of arrangements."
