- Ira Ward - ELIZABETHTON
ELIZABETHTON — Ira M. Ward, 77, 110 King St., Elizabethton, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at his residence. A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Clayton and Mary Elizabeth Rainbolt Ward. He had lived a number of years in Carter County. He was retired member of the Raytheon Coporation of Bristol. Mr. Ward served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. He was a member and Past Worshipful Master of the Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. Mr. Ward was a former member of the Carter County Civil Service Board. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ward, a sister, Louise Rains and two brothers, Frank and Tom Ward. He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Oliver Ward; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Steve Chambers, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim C. and Joan Ward, and Rex and Crystal Ward, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Marinda and Matthew Lovelace, Beth Whitehead, Alex Chambers and Brianna Ward; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jada Whitehead and Ryan Peterson; four sisters, Beatrice Whaley, Butler, Ruby Elliott, Marjorie Pearson and Judy Micks, all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Fred C. Ward, Elizabethton and Edward Ward, Gulfport, Mississippi. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005 in the National Cemetary, Mountain Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be Buddy Ward, Will Barkley, Greg Greer, Ray Buck, Randall Vines and Johnny Julian. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted by Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 at 8 p.m. Monday. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Tennessee National Guard. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Ward to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.
