- ELIZABETHTON — Edith Elizondo, 82, of 157 Mayfield Drive, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Edith was born in Carter County to the late Herman and Fina Stout Grindstaff. She later moved to Alton, Illinois, where she lived most of her life before returning to Elizabethton. In Alton, she retired from the Owens Glass Company after 30 years of faithful service. Edith was a member of the Stoney Creek Baptist Church and was a Gold Star Mother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Elizondo, and her only son, Frederick Herman "Freddie" Elizondo.
She is survived by two sisters, Edna D'Andelet and Zola Shankle, both of Elizabethton, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service for Edith Elizondo will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 23, 2008, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Richard Estep and Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Janice Estep, soloist. The family will receive friends Tuesday from Noon to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service or at her residence, 157 Mayfield Drive, other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 27, 2008, in the Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Edwardsville, Illinois. Active pallbearers are Michael Amtsberg, Richard Yankosky, Matthew Yankosky, Robert Eichers, Dan Wilkins, Maynard Peters, Henry White, and Ernest Grindstaff.
