Jack R. Hathaway Jack R. Hathaway, 78, 919 S. Second Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an unexpected illness. Mr. Hathaway was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Hobart and Elizabeth Holly Hathaway. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Hathaway and Jimmy Hathaway. Mr. Hathaway was a retired employee of the Tennessee State Department of Employment Security and was of the Christian faith. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Deloach Hathaway, of the home; three daughters, Ann Shurgin and Sue Zebrowski, both of Houston, Texas, and Melinda Hathaway, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Margaret Manley, Elizabethton; four brothers, Terry Hathaway and Earl Hathaway, both of Florida, Tony Hathaway, Elizabethton, and Burl Hathaway, of Indiana; and four grandchildren, Miriam Zebrowski, Rachael Zebrowski and Joshua Shurgin, all of Houston, Texas, and Sarah Shurgin, Austin, Texas. Second Street, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, with Mr. Dennis Carrico, minister, officiating. Music will be by Jerry Barnett, soloist. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, in the Chambers Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Hathaway, Richard Gunther, Richard John Gunther Jr., Alan Shurgin, Michael Zebrowski, Robert Johnson, Harold Deloach and Todd Welch. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 919 S. Second Street, Elizabethton, at any time.
