- Shay Danial Grindstaff, age 69, 184 Poplar Hill Dr., Johnson City, died Monday, August 13, 2007, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Clayton C. and Dora Stout Grindstaff. Mr. Grindstaff was a member of the College Park Free Will Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was retired from American Water Heater and also had worked as a carpenter. Mr. Grindstaff was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Grindstaff, three brothers, Robert, J.B. and Dayton Grindstaff and four sisters, Ruby Laughlin, Hildred Taylor, Lucille Taylor and Juanita Grindstaff.
Survivors include two daughters, Melinda Rupert, Tarpon Springs, FL, Paula Holloway, Johnson City, two sons, Danial Grindstaff, Kevin Grindstaff, both of Johnson City, nine grandchildren, two sisters, Frances Taylor, Jettie Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton, and one brother, Landon Grindstaff, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 14 in the Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Matthew Guy, Rev. David Morgan and Rev. Clate Briggs officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel prior to the service.
The graveside service and interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, in Wilson Cemetery, Elizabethton. Everyone is asked to meet the family at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday for the service.
Active pallbearers will be Aaron Bishop, Bradley Gothard, Doug Holloway, Graylon Grindstaff and others selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Grindstaff, James Berry and Mike Lowe.
