- HAMPTON — Hasford R. "Hass" Estep, 98, 157 Estep Road, Hampton, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Henry B. and Frances Bertie Scalf Estep. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. In his earlier years Mr. Estep played semi-pro baseball with the Valley Forge Reds that was organized in 1938, disbanded during the war years and later became the Unaka League. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Crowe Estep, December 31, 2001; by a son, Russell Estep; a great granddaughter, Ashley Younce; two sisters: Edith Estep and Sweetie Lyons; and a brother: Warren Estep.
Survivors include a Daughter & son-in-law: Frances & Raymond Bennett, Johnson City; Four Sons & Two Daughters-In-Law: Larry & Roma Estep and Stephen, all of Hampton, Terry & Kathy Estep and Jarvis Estep, all of Elizabethton; Two Brothers: William (Bill) Estep, Elizabethton, and Earl Estep, of Johnson City; 20 Grandchildren; 32 Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. It was his wish to be cremated and no services are planned.
The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Judy Deloach and the Staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Mandy Ritter for all their love and support.
