- Mrs. Ethel Chambers Johnson, 84, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Winfield A. and Delia Arnett Chambers. Ethel was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, where she played on the girls' basketball team. She retired from Beaunit Fibers.
She was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member of the ladies Sunday School Class and the Adult Choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Montie S. Johnson Sr., February 1990; four sisters: Cornthia Chambers, Laura Suess, Viola Stevens and Lillie Johnson; and three brothers: Howard Dugger, Ray Chambers and J.N. Chambers.
Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law: Shannon & Pam Johnson, Elizabethton; A daughter and fiancé, Sharon Culler and Tim Timbs, Elizabethton; Five Grandchildren: Curtis and his wife, Hillary Johnson, and Christie Johnson, all of Denver, Colorado, Nicholas, Kala and Kelli Culler, Elizabethton; Two Great Grandchildren: Connor Johnson and Reece Culler and Mother, Amy Peters; One Sister: June Ellis Telleen, Elizabethton; One Sister-in-Law: Betty Lou Chambers, Elizabethton; And one very special friend and neighbor, Frankie Woodby.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Johnson Family Cemetery, Mill Pond Road. Music will be provided by the Praise Choir, Ben Johnson and Pat Ray.
Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:55 p.m. Thursday and also at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday, will be: Carl Roberson, Joel Elijah, Larry McKinney, Sam Harrison, Sam Ellis, Bobbie Collins and Bobby McGee. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buck Johnson, Steve Chambers, Tim Chambers, Mark Smith, Dennis Ellis, Jeff Stout, Joel Kress, Phillip Suess, Leroy Johnson, Dusty Woodby, Wesley Woodby, Phil Carpenter, Eric Stephens, Jimmy Stevens and her church family.
Her special friends include: Connie and Jackie Roberts, Betty Jo and George Green Jr., Melody Carpenter, Dottie Stout, Suzanne Berry, Judy Hatley, Elaine Smith, Shelia Ellis, Linda Hopson, Dr. Vivian Clark and Judy Deloach.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence of her daughter, Sharon Culler, 2202 Love Street, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
