- JOHNSON CITY - Hazel Snyder Bashor, 97, Johnson City died Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Appalachian Christian Village. Mrs. Bashor was born January 24, 1918 in Doeville, Johnson County, Tennessee. She was a daughter of the late Roy Mineyard and Alice Snyder. One year later she moved to Valley Forge in Carter County. She attended Valley Forge Elementary, Elizabethton High School, and Teachers College in Johnson City where she received a permanent teaching certificate in elementary education. On August 19, 1942 she married Paul Erwin Bashor. Mrs. Bashor taught school in Carter County and the Elizabethton School System. In 1944 she joined her Navy husband in Washington, D.C. where they both worked for the OSS until his discharge on November 11, 1945. She returned to Elizabethton and lived there until moving to Johnson City in 1953. In 1957 they built Paul's Bait Shop and the Cadillac Motel. In 1962 they purchased the Rio Motel, which is now Paul's Mall on Roan Street. Mrs. Bashor was a member of Central Baptist Church and Seekers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Senior Center of Johnson City, Appalachian Christian Village, and The Greeters with the Shrine Center of Kingsport. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Paul Erwin Bashor; three brothers, Dudley Snyder, Maywood Snyder, and Watson Snyder; and a sister, Wanda Elliot. She is survived by: one son, Michael Bashor; one grandson, Paul Erwin Bashor; five siblings, Jason Worley Snyder, of Johnson City, Myrtle Taylor of Johnson City, Ben Snyder of Mountain City, Floyd Ray Snyder, of Elizabethton, and John D. Snyder of Elizabethton. The family of Hazel Bashor will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Dr. Tommy Hood officiating. A procession will follow immediately after the service to Monte Vista Memorial Park for committal services.
