  Notes	John settled in Siam Community of Carter County and operated a Mill on Clover Branch. When the Civil War broke out, he supported the Union Army, even though he had owned Slaves. Two of his children, William and Isaac Grindstaff joined the 13th Volunteer Cavalry of Tennessee, and were both killed in action in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. (Albert Grindstaff)
