- ELIZABETHTON - Carroll L. Broome, age 87, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Elizabethton, he was a son of the late Horace Arnold and Cora Nave Broome. Carroll was a 1948 graduate of Elizabethton High School and graduated from East TN State University. He retired as a Vice-President with Citizen's Bank. Carroll was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a very active member of First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton where he had served as a member of the Administrative Board and was a past Sunday School teacher. Carroll served as a member of the Elizabethton School Board; had been a member of the Civitan Club of Elizabethton and the Betsy Squares (square dancing). He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and loved to be around people. He was also a University of TN football fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Garrison Broome; sons, James Lavan Broome and David Brian Broome, an infant grandson, Austin James Frazier; Brothers, Horace Broome Jr. and Bob Broome; sisters-in-law, Grace Broome, Margaret Broome and Dixie Broome and nephews, Horace "Bubba" Broome III and Al Broome and his beloved dog, Millie. Those left to cherish him memory include a daughter, Linda Crowe, Elizabethton; step-daughter, Jama Frazier and husband Jim, Elizabethton; a brother, Bill Broome, Elizabethton; special caregivers, Trish Mayo, Eugene Carrier and Shannon Carrier and former caregivers, Linda, Debbie, Brenda and Denise. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Carroll L. Broome will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 30, 2018 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Raymond W. Amos, Sr. officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Tyler Fleming. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the service or at his residence at other times.
Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Rick Broome, Robert Broome, Carl Gilbert, Mike Johnson, Brett Cole and Ben Cole. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.
