- Joyce Ann Winters Hughes, 72, Roan Mountain, went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born September 26, 1949 in Banner Elk, N.C., to the later Arthur and Mary Lou Wilson Winters.
Joyce was a homemaker. She attended St. John Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry “Jip” Winters.
Survivors include her husband, J.G. Hughes, who took care of her until her death; her daughters, Denna Harrison (David) and Diane Hughes (Chad Hyder) of Elizabethton; one son, Jeffery (Kim) Hughes of Roan Mountain; three granddaughters, Hailey Hughes, Brittany Tanner and Stephanie Algiere; one great-granddaughter, Adriana Tanner; one sister, Gearldine Winters of Roan Mountain; and one nephew, Keith Winters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Sheppard and the Rev. Randy English officiating. Music will be provided by Michael Dellinger. Interment will follow in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
