- Ella N. Ollis Antill, 96, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 23, 2023.
Ella was born on April 30, 1927 to Luther and Margie Cooper Ollis in Frank, NC. She was one of nine children. She graduated from Cranberry High School in Cranberry, NC in 1944.
After working for 34 years at Sancap Abrasives in Alliance, Ohio, she retired. In 1992, Ella moved to Burnsville, NC to be closer to family. Ella's life was a rich heritage of faith, which was passed on to her children and grandchildren. She loved her church family at Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Burnsville, NC. She enjoyed travel, with Niagara Falls being one of her favorite destinations, as well as crocheting, reading, working crossword puzzles and watching professional bull riding.
Her devotion to others was one of her most noteworthy qualities. She served as a church board member at the Church of the Nazarene, Alliance, OH, an advocate for a ward of the state of Ohio, volunteered at Alliance City Hospital in Alliance, OH, volunteered with Hospice of Yancey County, NC for 10 years, cared for a neighbor's child, nurtured three grandsons during stressful family times and supported the long-term care of her sister.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Margie; brothers: Baxter, Ivan, Roy, Lawrence and Verne; sisters: Orpha (Facsko), Norma Pearl (Gale) and Esther (Ward); daughter, Lori Antill (Phillips) and grandson, Benjamin Peter Ollis.
She is survived by her daughters June Ollis Beck (William) and Lisa Antill Thornton (Tony); son, Peter Ollis (Sharon); seven grandchildren and f14 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Ella's life was held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 28, in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Dick Westbrook, Rev. Merritt Taylor and Rev. Remington Austin. The family received friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial followed in the Whitaker Branch Cemetery. Pallbearers wereDaniel Phillips, Nathan Phillips, Kyle Konapitsky, Jason Riddle, Andrew Ollis and Patrick Purdy.
