Raymond Earnest Tolliver, age 92, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, went home to his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 7, 2014.
He was born in Shady Valley on August 12, 1921, to the late Martin and Dora Tolliver.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by three brothers: Calvin, Glen and Earl; three sisters: Hazel, Ruth and Sylvia; a son-in-law: Joe Copley; and a granddaughter: Kaleigh Tolliver.
Raymond was a general contractor and built hundreds of homes during his lifetime. He never really retired and continued to build things as long as he was able. He was a dedicated member of Shady Valley Baptist Church and served in various positions over the years, including men's Sunday school teacher, deacon and song leader. He loved to praise his Lord in song and continued to do so on Sundays until just a few weeks prior to his passing.
Raymond is survived by his "sweetheart" of 72 years, Lorella Greer Tolliver; children: Kenneth Tolliver and wife, Nancy, of Doe Valley, TN, Linda Arrowood and husband, Robert, of Bakersville, NC; Sharon Copley, of Waverly, TN, and Stephen Tolliver and wife, Kim, of Shady Valley, TN; grandchildren: Ken Tolliver, Julie Tolliver, Laura Arrowood Black, Allison Copley, Jaden Tolliver and Kyla Tolliver; great-grandchild: Sara Black; one sister: Stella Tolliver Payne; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, from Shady Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Graybeal and Rev. Richard Stout officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens (Gentry Cemetery). Active pallbearers will be Robert Arrowood, Gary McQueen, Keith Miller, Charles Wright, Benjamin Tolliver and Bobby Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Delmer Morley, Earl Payne, and the men of Shady Valley Baptist Church.
