- Jerry Thomas Black, 67, of Hickory, passed away Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born July 6, 1943, in Roan Mt., Tenn., he was the son of the late Zeno and Georgia Mae Vines Black. Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Vina Ruff Black; four sons, Eric Black, Bill Watkins, Randy Watkins, Larry Wike; two daughters, Jenny Black, Linda Wike; three brothers, Zeno Black Jr., Danny Black, Jim Black; two sisters, Stella Issac, Carolyn Bunton; two granddaughters; three nieces and eight nephews. The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Smarts Grove Baptist Church, with the Pastor Charles Lewis officiating. Burial will be at noon on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, in Gunter Family Cemetery in Whittier.
