- August 2, 1939 ~ February 8, 2020 (age 80) Juanita Gourley, age 80, of Pond School Road in Kings Mountain, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky. Born Wednesday, August 2, 1939 in Hazard, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Luther & Jennie Bell Gumm Richardson. Her loving husband, whom she married Tuesday, July 24, 1962, is Wilbur Gourley of Kings Mountain. Juanita was a homemaker and member of Pond Baptist Church.
Juanita loved her family dearly and enjoyed hearing about the successes of her family, especially her grandchildren. Juanita was always full of life. In fact, she would often be seen riding her motorcycle. She would always smile and laugh and enjoyed seeing others laugh as well. In fact, she would even love to often play practical jokes on others. Juanita also enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood.
In her spare time, Juanita enjoyed collecting antiques and going to yard sales, canning, gardening, reading, and watching westerns (especially John Wayne movies). Juanita also enjoyed cooking, making sure her family was always fed; and enjoyed making Christmas candy. She was an avid listener of bluegrass gospel music and The General Store on WPBK-FM.
In addition to her husband, Juanita leaves behind one son, David Gourley (Tina Marie) of Gravel Switch, Kentucky; two daughters, Lisa Lynn Shelley (Paul) of Kings Mountain, and Connie Sue Scott (Russell) of Floyds Knobs, Indiana; six grandchildren, Paul Shelley, Jr., Adam Shelley (Rebekah), Alexis Gourley, Angela Banta, Kacy Scott, and Jenny Scott; two great-grandchildren, Esther Shelley and Luke Shelley; one brother, Adrian Richardson of Kings Mountain; one sister, Viola Olinger (Richard) of Dayton, Ohio; and numerous extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by one brother, Franklin Richardson; and one sister, Betty Hatter.
Cremation Rites have been honored. A Private Graveside Memorial Service & Burial will take place in Double Springs Cemetery.
