- Leonard "Len" Wood Garland, 90, of Jonesborough, passed away on August 20, 2010 at his residence.
Born in Mitchell County, NC, he was the son of the late Walter F. and Mary A. Tipton Garland.
Mr. Garland was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens Center in Johnson City. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Mr. Garland was a pipefitter for Union 538 for fifty five years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, four brothers, and his first wife Minnie Crumley Garland in 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice "Bea" Garland, of the home; step-daughter, Brenda Payne and husband Joe, of Kingsport; step-son, Robert "Bob" Rambo, of Johnson City; step-grandchildren, Joe Payne Jr., Lisa Morley, Lora Yonce, Amy Birchfield, and Vicki Rambo; and six great grandchildren. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service for Leonard "Len" Wood Garland will be conducted on Sunday, August 22, 2010, at 4:00 PM in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Rev. Harold McNabb and Rev. Mike Garland officiating. The family will welcome friends from 2:00PM till the time of service in the funeral home chapel.
A committal and interment service for Mr. Garland will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Mountain Home National Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Boone Dam Post #4933. Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Caris Healthcare Hospice and special care-givers, Sherrie, Kim and Linda for all the love and support given to Mr. Garland and his family.
