Notes |
- Pleasant John Jackson was the only known child of Henry McDonald Jackson 1832 – 1915 and Sarah Ann Irvin 1832 – 1886.
On Dec. 24, 1907 Christmas was a happy one for Pleasant. He became the groom of the lovely Mattie Parkerson. From this marriage the following children were welcomed into the family:
John H Jackson 1910 – 1977; Charley Jackson – Jackson 1912; Mary Cecil Jackson 1917 – 1982; Fredrick William Jackson 1915 – 1976; Ples J Jackson 1917.
The 1910 census found them living on a farm that they had purchased and paid for in Civil District 4, Grainger, Tennessee. Little John H had made his debut and Mattie's brother was living with them.
In the 1920 census it was learned that they had moved to Greeneville, Greene, Tennessee. Plesant and Mattie had rented a house on 320 Railroad Ave. Plesant was employed as a Shipping Clerk in a Wagon Shop, and Mattie was working as an Inspector at a Knitting Mill.
The 1930 census revealed that Pleasant was living with his half-sister, Cordelia. Pleasant was now widowed, so Mattie had passed away sometime in the last 10 years. Pleasant was not working and probably ill. It was revealed in his death certificate that he had been suffering from Endocarditis, (An inflammation of the inner layer of the heart.)since 1928.
Tennessee, Death Records, confirm that Pleas Jackson passed away on April 8, 1932 in Thorn Hill, Tennessee. His informant for his death Certificate was Tennie Turner. The actual cause of his death was Lobar Pneumonia, but he also had had Chronic Endocarditis. His certificate was filled out and signed by the hand of L.C. Bryon M.D. of Rutledge Tennessee.
When he was 45 years 11 months and 4 days old at 1:00pm he exhaled his last breath and his spirit returned to God, his maker. He was not taken to an undertaker, so it is not certain who prepared his earthy body for burial. He was buried in Dry Valley Church Cemetery, Grainger County, Tennessee, where he Rests in Peace."
