- Richard Douglas Pennington, 82, of Danville, died on April 17, 2018 at Bright Leaf Place in Danville. He was born in Pittsylvania County, on April 19, 1935, son of James Andrew Pennington and Ella M. Pennington McClanahan.
He served as an officer for the Martinsville Police Department and Dan River Mills. He served in the US Navy in the Korean War. He served in the Air National Guard for twenty-six years. He was a member of Schoolfield Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Lee Wagner Pennington; daughters, Arlene Pennington Smoot (Calvin) and Donna Pennington Williams; two sisters, Carole McClanahan and Virginia M. Hughes. He was also predeceased by three brothers, George T. McClanahan, Edwin F. McClanahan and James R. Pennington; a sister, Marion M. Wade.
Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.
