- Carl Brewer, 78, of Bluff City passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Dow and Maude Stewart Brewer. He was a graduate of Steed College, Johnson City. Carl retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He retired as a Master Sgt. Following his retirement , he worked at North American Rayon Corporation for many years. He attended the First Christian Church of Bluff City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Kay Smith Brewer, who passed away October 7, 2004; a son, Robert C. Brewer; a sister, Beatrice Brewer; and four brothers, Cecil J. Hale, H. Claude and Garfield Brewer. Survivors include his wife, Martha Joan Gass Brewer; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Chris Lezotte of Bluff City.; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Christine Brewer of Knoxville; a step daughter and husband, Kym, and David Pope of Versailles, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Dustin Joyner and wife, Amber, Justin Joyner, Christopher Joyner and wife, LeAnn, Kaitlyn Plank and husband, Donald, Matthew Brewer, Nicholas Brewer, and Kevin Brewer; five great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jason Mead officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be held 10:45 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2013, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Mr. Ron Whitacre, Minister officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Military honors will be provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard.
