- Ressie Jane Owens was the daughter of John Harvey Owens and Nora E Johnson
She was born in Ashe County, North Carolina. There are many different versions of her name: 1920 census - Bessie, 1940 census - Ressie, Marriage to William - Lizzie. I don't know if she actually used these variations during her life or if it was what people "heard".
Ressie married William Cochran on 6 May 1903 in Tazewell County. She had moved there before 1900.
William and Ressie had several children, including: Clyde Dewey, Marie, Goldie Mae, James Luke, Nora Ruth, Howard Lee, Ethel Oreatha, and Robert Van. They lived in the McDowell County area for many years. Ressie ultimately died from abdominal cancer n 11 Feb 1964 in Grace Hospital in Welch. She is buried in Roselawn Cemetery beside William.
