- Betty Jane Bowers Brewer, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at her residence. She was born September 4, 1942 in Bluff City to the late Jay N. and Helen Joey Oliver Bowers.
Betty was a homemaker. She attended Zion Baptist Church. She loved to work puzzles and quilt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Brewer, and a sister, Linda Lunceford.
Survivors include her son, James Hale Brewer, Elizabethton; her granddaughters, Haley and Inga Mia; four sisters, JoAnn Hess, Gray, Ga., Margaret (Tracy) Herman and Dorothy (Brent) Williams, Johnson City, and Wanda (Mike) Dougherty, Gate City, Va.; and three brothers, James Bowers, J.C. (Roberta) Bowers, Elizabethton, and Frank (Sherrie) Bowers, Attica, Mich.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Oak Hill Freewill Baptist Church with Dr. Alan King officiating. Music will be provided by Ronnie Hall. Interment will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WMU or the Penny Fund of Zion Baptist Church, 1982 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family would like to thank the residents of Courtyard that checked on Betty for us and two special caregivers, Shirley Cole and Lisa Lane. We would also like to thank Greg Williams and Angie and Joan Kiser, Pastor Alan King and the WMU from Zion Baptist Church, the Hospice workers and especially nurses Keith Greene and Vanessa Fletcher for all they did for Betty and the family during her illness.
