- Dean Thomas, age 89, of 832 Eggers Branch Road, Trade, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2006 at the Watauga Medical Center. He was born on March 13, 1917 in Trade, Tennessee to the late Clyde and Nettie (Robinson) Thomas. In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by two brothers: Lane Thomas and Ray Thomas and three sisters: Mae Thomas, Mable Thomas and Ruth Thomas. Dean was a retired farmer and had also worked for Johnson County Mutual Insurance Company and the ASC Office. He enjoyed horses and sports, especially baseball. Dean was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Thomas; one daughter and son-in-law, Marguerite and Clyde Miller; one son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Marcia Thomas, all of Mountain City, TN; two sisters: Marie Castle of Lancaster, KY and Sue Reece and husband Fred of Media, PA; two brothers: Glen Thomas and wife Antha of Lenoir, N.C. and Everett Thomas and wife Joan of Zionville, N.C. ; three grandchildren: David Miller and wife Shirlene, Dawn Taylor and husband John and Penny Carr and husband Ben; eight great grandchildren: April Sharpe and husband Andy, Matthew Miller, Cory Miller, Katie Miller, Kellie Miller, Dustin Osborne and wife Beth, Rachel Osborne and Brad Osborne; special nephew, Jimmy Thomas and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Dean Thomas will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Jim Hutchinson to officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the Service. Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 2006 from the Sunset Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Bobby Eggers, Gary Eggers, Ron Daves, Norman Thomas, Joe Winebarger, Fred Reece and Tommy Castle. Honorary Pallbearers are: Members of Johnson County Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Dr. John Whitlock, Bill Cornett, Butler Dowell and Staff of Mountain City Care Center
