- STANBERY, TROY - age 85, of 1704 Acorn Court, Johnson City, died Sunday, September 7, 1997, at his residence. He was a native of Butler, Tenn., and had lived in Johnson City since 1940. Mr. Stanbery was a son of the late John R. and Etta Burton Stanbery. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Sylvania Harmon; and four brothers, Ruben Stanbery, Audie Stanbery, Hubert Stanbery and Willard Stanbery. Mr. Stanbery was a WWII Army veteran, having served in Europe with the 137th Ordinance Battalion, 16th Armored Division. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, John Sevier Post #2108. He was a retired barber with Empire Barber Shop. Mr. Stanbery was a member of the Watauga Masonic Lodge #622, Holston Council #101, Thomas E. Matson Chapter #131, Watauga Commandry #25. He was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Irene Edwards Stanbery; one daughter, Patricia Jones, Knoxville; one brother, John R. Stanbery, Elizabethton; one sister, Celia Dugger, Butler, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Cindy Lee Jones and Angela Jones, both of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The Rev. John Yarbrough will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendly Bible Class and close friends. Private burial will be in the Monte Vista Burial Park.
