- John R. Stanbery, 82, 1274 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, died Sunday, November 3, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Stanbery was a native of Johnson County and the son of the late John and Etta Burton Stanbery. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hutchins Stanbery, May 22, 1999, and by several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Stanbery attended Borderview Christian Church and was a retired employee of General Motors. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in World War II, and was a member of Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Berkley, Linville, Tenn., and Kay Kent, Pontiac, Mich.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Celia Dugger, Gray. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

STANBERY -- Funeral services for John R. Stanbery, 82, 1274 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, who died Sunday, November 3, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Ron Marvel officiating. Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds and Ray Don Markland. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 7, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Cecil Dugger, Harold Dugger, Tom Pleasant, Donald Pleasant, Steve Berkley and John Kent.
