She was a homemaker, in earlier years she was employed at South East Apparels. She loved to work in her garden, yard work and canning. She was a member of Nidiffer Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Wesley and Loyd Williams, a granddaughter: Tracy Pierce and a daughter-in-law: Lina Sue Pierce. Survivors include her husband of 72 years: Martin Pierce, Jr., A Daughter: Brenda (Tommy Eugene) Campbell, Her Sons: Jerry (Jackie) Pierce, Michael (Lena Sue) Pierce, Randall Pierce and Eric Lynn (Rita) Pierce all of Elizabethton. Nine Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and One Great Great Grandson. 8752 | Vergie Emma (Pierce) Hardin was born on July 23, 1914 in Carter County, Tennessee, the daughter of John Wesley Pierce (1876–1957) and Minnie Belle (Oliver) Pierce (1877–1919). She was married in 1929 to Lilburn Tom "Cornbread" Hardin (1908–1981), the son of William Hamilton Hardin (1886–1963) and Sarah Jane (Hardin) Hardin (1888–1951). 8754 | Verl Shell, 87, of 110 Tom Birchfield Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Verl was born in Carter County on February 22, 1928, a son of the late Arthur and Dovie Street Shell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ennie Shell Shell; his second wife, Christine Johnson Shell; three brothers, Fred, Eddie Joe and Bert Shell; and one sister, Willie Cox. Verl retired as a machine operator at North American Rayon Corporation and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, talking politics, and working in his yard and garden. He was very loved by his family and will be missed dearly by his family and many friends. Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Bill Shell and wife Sarah, Damascus, Va., Teddy Shell, of the home, and LeDonna Hughes and husband Joey, Johnson City; his eight grandchildren, Wendy Gibbons and husband Dean, Cody Shell and wife Ashley, Justin Shell and wife Nichole, Jessica Shell, Heather Gibson, Haley Hughes and fiancé Dustin Clawson, Ashley Otey and Brandon Otey; several great-grandchildren; one brother, William D. Shell and wife Norma Lou, Elizabethton; and two sisters, Frankie Cox and Jean Timmons and husband Bob, all of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews, along with his best buddy, "Champ," also survive. A service to celebrate the life of Verl Shell will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, October 5, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Todd Wolfe, minister, officiating. 8755 | Verlin "Bill" Ford, 85, went home with the Lord on August 22, 2019 in Johnson City, Tennessee after a short illness. He was born in Gray to Addie Price Ford and Stewart Ford. He was married to the love of his life and lifelong companion, Shirley Hall Ford for 66 years. Mr. Ford worked 40 years for Tennessee Eastman Company in the Tenite Division. He coached baseball during the summers at Gray, was former member of the Gray Ruritan Club, the Gray Volunteer Fire Department, Sinking Creek Masonic lodge, and a 32rd degree Mason, and he was well known in local square dance as a caller and an instructor. At the age of 80, he started making wooden bowls and was known for his workmanship. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church and a member of the senior choir. Mr. Ford was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, R.S "Bud" Ford; two sisters, Wanda Ford and Sue Ford Gouge, two brothers-in-law, Leighton Gaby and Joe Bacon, and a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Bombailey Ford. He is survived by his wife of 66 years; brothers, Harold Dean Ford (Madeline); Tim Ford of Limestone, TN; three sisters-in-law, Madeline Ford, Angie Gaby, Jerri Bacon, all of Gray; two sons, Dr. Victor Ford (Cindy) of Hope, Arkansas and Stephen Ford (Pam) of Knoxville, TN; a grandson, Nathan Ford (Abby) of Ooltewah, TN; three granddaughters, Christine Sams (Chad) of Lewisburg, WV, Makenzie Ford and Natalie Ford of Knoxville, TN; and three step-grandchildren, Daniel Hamilton (Kyla), Adam Hamilton (Courtney), and Emily Davis (Kelly) all of Hope, AR, six great grandchildren, Skyler Ford, Cooper Ford, Logan Cox, Kennedy Hamilton, Karson Hamilton, and Gunner Davis, and many nieces and nephews. 8756 | Verlin "Vern" White, 86, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Hillview Health Center. A native of Elizabethton, he was the son of the late Joseph Frank and Sallie Pierce White. Mr. White retired as a plant engineer. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Garrettsville Masonic Lodge #246 in Garrettsville, Ohio, and the Jericho Temple #180 of Kingsport where he loved working for children. He also was an officer in the Legion of Honor in Kingsport and a member of the Jesters. Mr. White enjoyed golfing and working on cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy J. Elgin White; three sisters, Christine McKinney, Emma Johnson and Mable Matthews; and a brother, Ed White. Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Steven L. 8757 | Verlin Droke, 97, died peacefully at his life-long home on August 18, 2019, after a period of declining health. Verlin was born February 6, 1922, in what was then known as Fordtown on the original Droke Farm, which is now part of Colonial Heights. He attended Miller Perry Elementary School and the former Holston High School. In 1942, Verlin joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, Air Transport Command, for six years. He attended aircraft training school in Missouri. Verlin was stationed in India for 21 months during World War II, where he served as a flight engineer to the C-47 aircrafts that flew across the dangerous region then known as “The Hump.” Some of his favorite war stories involved flying supply missions with Colonel Chennault, son of Major General Claire Lee Chennault of the “Flying Tigers.” His final three years of service were at Malstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, where he met and married Vivian R. Dors on April 10, 1947. Upon his honorable discharge, January 1949, Verlin was a staff sergeant. Following his military service, Verlin founded the Droke’s Family Shoe Store in 1950, in Elizabethton, and between 1950 and 1982, he established 11 stores in upper East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. He was the owner of Droke’s Family Shoe Stores for 43 years, retiring in 1993. Verlin kept the family farm active with cattle, hay, and gardening for years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau of Sullivan County. He was the oldest living member of the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. His mother was a descendent of the R.P. Gott family, who donated property for the original church in 1845. Verlin enjoyed fishing, camping, and golf, but he loved country music, especially bluegrass. At one time he sponsored and was a member of the Country Tune Twisters, as well as the Tennessee Country Boys bands. They played locally and often appeared on WJHL-TV. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Monroe Droke and Edna Mae Gott Droke; one sister, Margaret Johnson Roberts; three brothers, Charles Droke, W.D. Droke, and Mac Droke. Verlin is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Vivian R. Dors Droke; his daughter, Rena Paulette Droke of Kingsport; and son, Riky Paul Droke and wife Teresa of Johnson City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family is grateful to all of his caregivers and medical providers who were invaluable in the excellent care they gave him. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 25, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Colonial Heights Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. 8758 | Vernell Johnson Tolley, 81, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at her residence. She was born January 29, 1941 in Butler to the late Dana and Polly Sheets Johnson. Vernell was of the Holiness Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Tolley; two sisters, Lucille Stines and Louella Dugger; and a brother, David Sheets. Survivors include three sisters, Betty Markland and husband Dana, Helen Ellison and Sarah Hartsook; her sister-in-law, Wanda Hyder; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Melinda Pritchard, and a special nephew, Kevin Markland; and her two furry buddies, Rhudy and Bear. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Carl Grindstaff officiating. Music will be provided by Lacey Maines and Donna Shepherd. Vernon was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Long Hollow Baptist Church and Watauga Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Vines Wilson; a sister, Burlie Stansberry; and a brother, Martin Potter. 8760 | Veronia Ruth (Stout) Boggs Williams, age 84, of 429 Chestnut Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2019. She was born May 7, 1934 to the late George and Dora Stout. In addition to her parents she is also proceeded in death by her brother, Garland Stout; sister, Voida Mason; husbands, Rastis Boggs and William (Bill) Williams. Veronia was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mountain City. Veronia was Heaven's angel sent to bless all that knew and loved her. She was Mom, Mom-Maw, Granny, sister, aunt, and friend to so many. Veronia loved to spend time with her family and cherished each and every one of them. She never turned away a stranger and always invited them inside her home for shelter and a good home cooked meal leasing them to enter as strangers but leave as friends whom often returned. She was the heart of her family, the rock against outside storms, the patient listener, and the one who taught many what true unconditional love really was. Veronia greeted the world with a smile and left memories of love and laughter in all that knew her. She will be forever missed by those that love her. 8761 | Veryl Norris “Grandma” Hopson, 93, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, in the Hermitage Health Center. A native of Roan Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Bynum & China Church Norris. She was a graduate of Cloudland High School. She operated Grandma’s Day Care for a number of years. Veryl was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton. She loved to sew and loved to work with her flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Henry Hopson and a grandson: Kevin Arney. Survivors include her children: Linda & Ken Arney, Clara & Tom Ingram and John & Katrina Hopson all of Elizabethton. 8762 | Vessie Jones Freeman, age 99, of Newland, NC passed away on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC. She was born on June 15, 1920 in Avery County, a daughter of Wesley Jones and Missouri Burleson Jones. Vessie was a member of Powdermill Baptist Church, where she was a former church secretary, and had sang with church quartets. She enjoyed flower gardening and cooking, especially her famous chocolate pies. Her later years were spent reading her Bible and praying for others. Although she was a home-body, she loved visitors. She had a good sense of humor, a positive attitude, and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her and enjoyed her family, but her greatest love was the Lord and her church. She was always looking for the Lord to return. She was preceded in death by her Father: Wesley Jones; Mother: Missouri Jones; her Husband: Calvin John Freeman; two Sisters: Nelle Helen Ollis and Maxine Gertrude Brown; and a Son-In-Law: Christopher Nolan Henley. Vickie was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed traveling, camping, arranging flowers, and loved her dog, “Little Bit”. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. She was an active member of First Freewill Baptist Church. Vickie was born in Banner Elk, N.C., to the late Ivan and Lucy Heaton Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tiffany Holdren, and a sister, Bobbie McKinney. Vickie was a cook and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. She liked to watch westerns, reading and loved her grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Tabby Hampton of Roan Mountain; four granddaughters, Payton Johnson, Madelyn Johnson and Madison Johnson, all of Roan Mountain, and their father Johnny, and Chloe Holdren and her father John of Newland; and two sisters, Donna Gray and husband Perry of Roan Mountain and Diana Marshall of Morristown. 8772 | Vida Carpenter, age 88, of Stamey Branch, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at her home. A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Jasper and Bessie Stamey Vance. Mrs. Carpenter was also preceded in death by her grandparents, including her very special "Granny" Jane Stamey; as well as her sisters: Selma, Sue and Georgia. Mrs. Carpenter was a faithful and active member of Stamey Town Baptist Church, where she served as the Adult Choir Director, Youth Choir Director, WMU Director and other positions in the church. Fulfilling her life's purpose, Mrs. Carpenter was devoted witness. It never mattered where she was or who she was with, she was always eager to share the word of the Lord. Mrs. Carpenter also loved to sing and often sang with The Trio, as well as her family, who would always be in matching outfits, and her voice could frequently be heard over the airwaves of WTOE radio. She also wrote for The Avery Journal's Stamey Town Community News for many years, making a name for herself through the sharing of local news and prayer requests. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her loving Husband of 71 years: Mason Carpenter; Daughters: Katrina Cook and husband, Sam, of Spruce Pine, Masona Buchanan and husband, Eddie, of Spruce Pine, and Robbin Cassida and husband, Dale, of Drexel; Grandchildren: Dené Allen and husband, Adam, B.J. Mae was born in Carter County to the late Maggie Ellen Cole and Robert “Witt” Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Blair; a daughter, Kathy Baker; siblings, Frank Hardin, Andy Hardin, William “Bill” Hardin, Sam Hardin, Robert “Bob” Hardin, Ida Laws, Sarah Blanton, Nellie Ward, Anna Belle Montgomery and Bertha Bledsoe; a grandson, Terry Blair Hickman; and a granddaughter, Sarah Blair. Mae became a loyal member of the Order of the Eastern Star Sycamore Chapter 163 in 1982, serving as Worthy Matron for several years as well as Chaplain and Martha. She was honored to be chosen to be on the Grand Committees and as a Grand Representative. She made many lifelong friends in the many chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star and cherished all the memories she made serving in this organization. Mae loved to cook and everyone loved her cooking, especially her gravy and biscuits. She enjoyed working in her flowers and could grow anything from small cuttings. Mae loved to sing, especially the song, “Thank You Lord for Your Blessings on Me,” and you would hear her singing wherever she went. She danced around the house and said that was how she lost weight. She enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh. She regularly visited people at the nursing homes and would take food to the shut-ins at their home. Mae dedicated her life to helping others and her loving generosity will not be forgotten by all who met her. 8777 | VINTON, VA — Ruby Chloe Wright Testerman, 95, of Vinton, Virginia, completed her earthly journey on Monday, February 29, 2016, in Roanoke, Virginia. She was living self-reliantly until the onset of a sudden illness in December of 2015. She was born in Shady Valley, Tennessee, on May 17, 1920, the next to last of seven children, to Girdie Belle McEwen Wright and Allen Jesse Wright, on the farm that has been in the family since 1789. Ruby Testerman's calling to care for others has been lived out as a mother and as a nurse on three continents, including Africa, in addition to Europe and North America. Ruby served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Nurse Corps in Swindon, England during World War II, attending to soldiers wounded in The Battle of the Bulge. Ruby completed registered nursing training at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. She continued her education at both the Medical College of Virginia and the University of Virginia. From 1954-1987, she worked competently and compassionately as a public health nurse with the Roanoke County Health Department. In her retirement years, she traveled far and wide, as well as donating much volunteer time to church and charitable organizations, making new friends along the way. She was the last surviving of the seven children. Her siblings were: Kyle Wright, Walter Preston Wright, Retha Morley McKee, Lena Ruth Douglas, Letha Sluder and Haynes Wright. She was one of a long line of strong matriarchs. To know Ruby was to know her mother and her Grandmother McEwen. Her mind for details suited her to being the family genealogist, oral historian and storyteller. She was married for 23 years to Virgil Lee Testerman (d. January 2, 1972). Survivors include Michael Lee Testerman and family friend Miriam Daughtry of Richmond, Virginia; and Dennis Eugene Testerman and wife Paula Meador Testerman of Concord, North Carolina. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Eva Testerman and Chrysteen Wright, as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, with whom she has maintained extensive personal ties. Family visitation will be held at Oakey's Funeral Services-Vinton, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 3. A celebration of Ruby's life will be held on Friday, March 4 at 11 a.m., at Vinton Baptist Church, where she was an active member for 62 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and quilting. She quilted many beautiful quilts in her time. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed providing the finest meals for those she loved. To know her was to love her. Violet married the love of her life, Rev. Horace Bowers, in 1959, and together they made a house a home. Along with her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband, siblings, and son-in-law, Kenneth Dunn. Those remaining to cherish her memory include one daughter, Rowena Bowers Dunn; one son, Jonathan Bowers (William Bailey III); three grandchildren, Daniel (Tracie) Dunn, David (Jessica) Dunn, and Dianna (Nathan) Bates; and five great-grandchildren, Zachariah Dunn, Caleb Rosenbalm, Karleigh Dunn, Annabelle Bates, and Olivia Bates. She joined the Centerview Church of Christ in Trade, Tennessee at an early age and was a devoted member. She attended Bulldog School, and later attended Cove Creek High School (for one year), then attended Mountain City High School. Violet shared many stories of her life growing up in the hills of Tennessee with her brothers and sisters. Violet was united in marriage to the late Bobby Gene Mast on December 19, 1952. Their union of 64 years was filled with many blessings including three daughters. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning vegetables from her garden, and embroidering. She attended Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Rising Sun, Maryland. Violet worked at RMR Corporation in Elkton, Maryland until her retirement in 1987. In recent years she enjoyed traveling, taking her first plane ride to Fort Worth, Texas one month ago at age 86. Violet peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 6, 2020 surrounded by family at Lancaster General Hospital. Virgie worked at the UT Extension Office in Johnson County as an administrative assistant for 45 years before retiring. She was a faithful and active member of State Line Baptist Church in Laurel Bloomery until her health would not allow. Virgie was an avid Tennessee Volunteer Football fan and enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She also worked very hard in her earlier years in the gardens and tobacco fields; she loved chewing her tobacco. She was the daughter of the late Robert T. and Katherine Shell Ellis. She was born in Erwin, Unicoi County, Tennessee but moved to Carter County at an early age and grew up in the Keenburg Community. She was employed in the Comptroller's Department of Beaunit Corporation as secretary and cashier for twenty-three years and later worked as a bookkeeper in the Superintendent's Office of the Carter County School System for seventeen years, retiring in 1983. Ms. Ellis was a member of Borderview Christian Church. She also had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Carter County Adult Reading Program. She always displayed a love and an interest in the welfare of others, and cared for the sick and the elderly as long as her health permitted. Ms. Ellis was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Ellis and by brothers, Jack T. Ellis, Walter Pat Ellis, Harold R. Ellis and Phillip E. Ellis; and by nephews, David Ellis, Lynn Ellis and a niece, Kimberly Lewey. Survivors include her husband, Winston Redford, Johnson City; six nieces, Kelly Ellis White, Chattanooga, TN, Elaine E. Virginia was a graduate of the Elizabethton High School class of 1949 in spite of the fact her favorite pastime was to skip school with her future sister in law, Martha Hubbard Van Huss. She was married to Harold E Hubbard in April of 1950, and they celebrated 69 years of marriage before Harold’s death in December 2019. Together, they had two sons, Steven and Michael. She remained a devoted mother until her passing. Virginia worked for 30 years for the Raytheon Company, where she worked as an electrical assembler until her retirement. But, when asked, she said her main occupation was playing cards in the breakroom. She is survived by her two sons and daughters in law, Steven and Sherry Hubbard, and Michael and Rhonda Hubbard. One brother, Lee Murray and Jane. One brother in law, Paul Bishop. And one sister in law, Betty Murray. But the ones that made her smile were her: Granddaughter Jennifer Hubbard Sefcik married to Matthew Sefcik. Granddaughter Katie Hubbard Blevins married to Tee Blevins. Grandson Jake Hubbard married to Anna Hope Hubbard Grandson Jarrod Ellis married to Megan Fox Ellis Virginia is survived by 7 great grandchildren, Connor Sefcik, Cooper Sefcik, Eli Blevins, Addison Blevins, Easton Hubbard, Hope Hubbard, and Hayes Ellis. Her niece Angelee described her best “ I admired her sweetness, her constant giggles, her highest of high heels, her sparkly outfits, and her love of jewelry, makeup, and diamonds. Most of all, I admired Aunt Jenny’s sweet nature - she was generous, loving, caring, and non judgmental. As an adult, I marveled at how she carried herself with grace and class. She was a friend to all.” A graveside service will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park on Wednesday May 19, 2021 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Gary Roe and Pastor Tim Mindmann officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Steve Hubbard, Mike Hubbard, Jake Hubbard, Tee Blevins, Jarrod Ellis and Matthew Sefcik. We would like to thank Luke, Tanya, Windy, and Jordan from Sycamore Springs for the love and care they've given our mother over the past 6 years and allowing her to cheat at bingo. Also, special thanks to Caris Healthcare (Brooke, Kristina, Nate, Justin and Michael) for the wonderful care they gave our mother in her last days. Virginia was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, 100 East F Street in Elizabethton, for over 30 years. 8798 | Virginia Pearl Buchanan, 96, of Nebo went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019. Born in Avery County on Sept. 2, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Elgie Clark and Margaret Bowman Clark. She was a member of River Valley Baptist Church. Virginia is survived by her children: Jean Crump (Steve) of Lenoir, Wanda Newton (Ray) of Nebo, Milton Buchanan of Nebo, Harriett Yancey (Edward) of Morganton, Gail Henson of Newton, and David Buchanan (Pam) of Morganton; and numerous grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her Husband: Adam Buchanan; and a Son: Reuel Buchanan. The family received friends from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home. 8799 | Virginia Pearl Buckles Harmon Perry, age 91, of Bluff City, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, from her home. She was born in Sullivan County, a daughter of the late James William "Toy" and Myrtle Grace Bullock Buckles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lynn William Harmon, Sr.; second husband, W.I. Perry; nine siblings; son, Lynn William Harmon, Jr.; grandson, Mickey Harmon; and great grandson, William Joseph Chatman. She was a seamstress and a member of First Christian Church of Bluff City. Survivors include her daughters, Lois J. White of Elizabethton, Linda L. Chatman and husband Clifford of Bristol, TN, and Earlene F. Strouth and husband Stan of Bluff City; son, James W. Harmon of Bluff City; daughter-in-law, Shelia Harmon; step daughter, Retha Goff and husband Dennis; step son, Thad Perry and wife Vicki; sisters-in-law, Beverly Buckles and Willetta Harmon Mircale; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 Friday evening, October 26, 2012 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City, with Mr. Ron Whitacre, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:45 prior to the service. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 Saturday morning, October 27, 2012, in Morning View Cemetery. 8800 | Virginia Ruby Grindstaff, 82, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Virginia was born in Unicoi, Tenn., to the late Robert and Hazel Davis Banks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Grindstaff, and four sons, Larry Grindstaff, Perry Grindstaff, Randy Grindstaff and James Grindstaff. Virginia retired from North American Rayon Corporation and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Billy Joe Grindstaff; seven grandchildren, Anthony Grindstaff, Jason Grindstaff and wife Melissa, April Grindstaff, John Grindstaff, Kristen Grindstaff, Dusty Grindstaff and Michael Grindstaff; several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ron Crowe. A service to celebrate the life of Virginia Ruby Grindstaff will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.
