8730 Vada P. Eggers, age 85, of Damascus, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mrs. Eggers was born in Rock Creek, N.C., a daughter of the late James and Janie Roark Potter, and lived in Damascus most of her life.
She was the widow of the Rev. I. Blaine Eggers and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Glade Spring. She was also preceded in death by three brothers.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Lavone) Widener and Mrs. Bert (Brenda) Snodgrass, both of Damascus; two sisters, Ella Price of West Jefferson, N.C., and Mary Buchanan of Mountain City, Tenn.; three grandsons, Scottie Widener, Travis Dyson and Brent Dyson; one great-grandson, Tyler Widener; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Widener; granddaughter-in-law, Robin Widener; several nieces and nephews; sons-in-law, Dennis Widener and Bert Snodgrass.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. in Pleasant View Baptist Church with Herman Widener, the Rev. Carl Wilson, the Rev. Tim Stevens and the Rev. Roger Boyer officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus.

8731 VALDOSTA, GA - Leila Elizabeth “Liz” Lingerfelt Richards, 75, of Valdosta, GA, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022. She was born in Johnson City, TN on October 2, 1946, to Rev. Oral Lingerfelt and his wife, the former Jessie McInturff.
Liz was a member of First Christian Church of Valdosta where she served as youth leader; she spent many years visiting and serving the elderly and shut-ins in their congregation. After moving to Valdosta in 1984, Liz worked with disabled children in Valdosta City Schools as a paraprofessional. She was a member of the Azalea City Women’s Club and worked in their clown ministry for children. She was an integral part of the establishment of LAMP and spent many years running their food pantry and clothes closet. Liz spent more than two decades working for Walmart and Sam’s Club before retiring to care for her sister in Tennessee. Liz spent her life in the service of others, always representing the hands and feet of Christ.
“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35
Liz is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Franklin Richards II (Dana) of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law Betsy McTier (Frank) of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Noah Richards, William Richards, Benjamin McTier, and Lauren McTier, all of Valdosta; her brothers and sister-in-law, Edward Lingerfelt (Carol) of Jonesboro, TN, and Wayne Lingerfelt of Church Hill, TN; brother-in-law John Tilson of Church Hill, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara Tilson, and nephew Geoffrey Tilson.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, January 10th, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta with Rev. Ron Nordan officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service in Valdosta from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday. The service will be streamed on Monday on the Tribute wall of Liz’s obituary page on www.mclanecares.com.
Her committal will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 15th, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Chuckey, TN.

8732 Vance Hughes, age 99, of NC 226-S in Spruce Pine went to his celestial home on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family after a long and happy life.

Born on June 3, 1919, in Avery County, he was the son of the late Zeb and Minnie Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years: Bernice; his son: Larry Hughes; his brothers: Herman, Arie, Vincent, Quince, and Edd; and his sisters: Jessie McGee, Nola Hughes, and Edith Hinkle.

Vance is a lifelong resident of the Roaring Creek community in Avery County where he was born and raised. He lived most of adult life in Mitchell County. Vance was a veteran of World War II being drafted in 1941. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, Fort Polk, La., and then overseas in England and France. He served until 1945 as a tank commander and landed on Normandy on D-Day Plus 10 and later was a driver for the Red Ball Express. He was injured and was recuperating in an English hospital when France was liberated.

After returning home to North Carolina, he married Bernice and worked in logging, in sawmills, and truck driving. He spent six months in Adrian, Mich., working in the car factories, but missed the mountains and returned to Spruce Pine never to leave again. After a while, he obtained a job at American Thread Company in Marion where he worked until his retirement in 1985. He was a devout Christian who read his Bible morning and night, every day and witnessed for Jesus to everyone he met. Vance will be sorely missed by his family and friends and all the people he didn't know when he met them but knew them when he said goodbye.

8734 Vance Hyder, age 99 of Elizabethton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Oscar and Jane Dugger Hyder. Mr. Hyder was a farmer, who enjoyed raising tomatoes and was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 42 years of service. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Jenkins Hyder, December 27, 1998, two brothers and nine sisters.


Survivors include daughter, Nancy Diane Hyder, Elizabethton, three sons and daughters-in-law, Norman "Buddy" Hyder and wife, Jeane Smithdeal Hyder, Elizabethton, Carmon Ray Hyder and wife, Sue Calloway Hyder, Johnson City, Tony J. Hyder and wife, Brenda Peters Hyder, Elizabethton. Ten grandchildren, Michael K. Adams, Bristol, TN, Andy Hyder, Elizabethton, Patrick Hyder, Telford, Timothy Hyder, Johnson City, Christopher Hyder, Johnson City, Kathy Hyder Boling, Elizabethton, Katrina Hyder Hopson, Elizabethton, Alecia Hyder, Elizabethton, Debbie Hyder Hodges, Elizabethton, Tabitha Hyder Blackwell, Elizabethton, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. The funeral service for Mr. Vance Hyder will be conducted at 8 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. C.W. Snodgrass and Rev. Burl Sluder officiating. Music will be under the direction of Katrina Hopson, Debbie Hodges and Tabitha Blackwell. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, from 6:30 PM until 8 PM prior to the service.


The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Noon at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Pat Hyder, Tim Hyder, Chris Hyder, Andy Hyder, Travis Brumit and Steve Hyder. She was born in Flag Pond, TN a daughter to the late Thomas and Dyca Blankenship Tilson.

She had made her home in Bristol most of her life after moving from Limestone, TN and was a former employee of Gordon Garments. She attended the Revival Center Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elgin D. Tester, a son Larry E. Tester, a great granddaughter and 10 Brothers and Sisters.

Funeral of Daniel Brown Vanhuss, 52, who died in Duke Hospital, Durham, N.C. Friday at 1:00 a.m. after an illness of six weeks, will be held at the Valley Forge Church of Christ today at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. K. W. Baldwin, assisted by the Rev. J. J. Musick will officiate.
Mr. Vanhuss was returned to the home on Route 1, Elizabethton Saturday at 11:00 a.m. It will remain there until 2:00 o'clock this afternoon when it will be taken to the church to lie in state until time for the services. The Roy Hathaway Funeral Home is in charge.
The church choir will be in charge of the music at the funeral. Burial will be in Happy Valley Memorial Park after military honors are accorded by the Watauga Post No. 49 of the American Legion and the Capt. Lynn H. Folsom Post No. 2168, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Eliza Garrison Vanhuss; three daughters, Mrs. Jane McInturff, and Misses Hazel and Margaret Vanhuss; five sons, John F., H. F., K. S., Haskel, and Harold Vanhuss; his mother, Mrs. John F. Vanhuss; three sisters, Mrs. Haskel Felty, Mrs. Leon Cardwell, and Mrs. W. M. Funeral arrangements were incomplete early this afternoon for Frank VanHuss, 72, who died at his home Tuesday morning following an illness of several months.
Mr. VanHuss was a well-known farmer of Carter county.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Laura Treadway VanHuss; three daughters, Mrs. Haskel Felty, Mrs. Leon Cardwell and Mrs. W. M. Myers all of Elizabethton; seven sons, Brown, W. R., Bowman, Ray, Crawford and Cecil VanHuss, all of Elizabethton, Sgt. Walter VanHuss, in the Army overseas; one brother, T. S. VanHuss of Rouge 5, Elizabethton.

Mrs. Laura Ann Vanhuss, 72, died in a local hospital at one-thirty o'clock, after a short illness. Mrs. Vanhuss was the widow of the late John Frank Vanhuss, who died four years ago. A son Brown Vanhuss also is dead. Mrs. Vanhuss was a native of Carter County, and member of the Charity Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Haskel Felty, Mrs. Leon Cardwell, Mrs. W. M. Myers all of Elizabethton; six sons, Bob, Bowman, Craford, Cecil and Walter “Buck” of Elizabethton, Ray of Mt. City; three sisters, Mrs. John Henry of Telford, Mrs. Austin Nave of Siam, Mrs. Bill Martin of Elizabethton; four brothers, Monroe Treadway, W. L. Treadway, C. E. Treadway, Bowman Treadway, all of Elizabethton; eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Siam Baptist Church Friday afternoon at three o'clock with the Rev. E. W. Baldwin in charge, assisted by Rev. Willis Allen, and Rev. John Fineout.
Burial will be made in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Robert Pettitt.

8739 Varden Fox Roller, of 213 Oviedo Street, Gulf Breeze, Florida died Saturday, November 24, 2007 in the Gulf Breeze Hospital after celebrating her 81st birthday November 9th following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a native of Johnson City, TN, but later was a permanent resident of Florida. She was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Rachel Gertrude Lilly Fox. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, Jack P. Roller in March of 1996; three sisters, Bessie Halenia, Irene Fox Kissinger and Thelma Fox Price; two brothers, Sherman Francis Fox and Bobby Vernon Fox. Mrs. Roller was a member of the Gulf Breeze Methodist Church and a charter member of the Myrtle Grove Order of the Eastern Star # 302. She was a 1947 graduate of Science Hill High School where she was a member of the band. She married Jack Roller in the early 1950s and lived in Alabama before making their home in Florida in later years. Mrs. Roller was employed as a telephone operator for Inter Mountain Telephone Company while living in Johnson City, but later retired as a consultant for Gulf Power in Florida. Her hobbies, which she celebrated with a free and loving heart, included raising boxer bulldogs, fishing, playing golf and being a huge fan of the University of Tennessee football. Survivors include: two brothers, Bennick W. Ben Fox and his wife Sue, of Johnson City and Clarence L. Fox and his friend and companion Beulah Honeycutt, of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews. 8740 Vaughn Simerly Sr., 90, Hampton, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022, at Hillview Health Center. He was born May 26, 1932 in McMinnville, Ore., to the late Linzy and Velma Hyder Simerly. He had lived most of his life in Carter County.
Vaughn served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Maintenance Department of East Tennessee State University.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Vaughn Simerly Jr.; three brothers, Gene Gordon Simerly, Sam Simerly and William Bob Simerly; and one sister, Selma Simerly.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Stevens Simerly; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Joey McNeil; a daughter-in-law, Julia Simerly; and two grandsons, Keith McNeil and Justin Simerly. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Holtsclaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Stevens Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Justin Simerly, Joey McNeil, Keith McNeil, Ed Birchfield, Wayne Johnson and Jimmy Woodby. Honorary pallbearers will be Byrl Clark, John L. 8741 Vearl Hagan Bowers, 91, of Alexandria, VA passed peacefully at his home on October 18, 2017. He was born to the late Earl and Gladys Bowers of Elizabethton, TN.

At the age of 9 he moved to the DC area, and then later to Alexandria. Vearl worked at Safeway after school until the age of 16, when he joined the U.S. Navy- serving in WWII on the LST Ship # 1066. Upon returning home from the war, he started working back as Safeway as a Butcher, and then later becoming the Manager of the meat department; retiring in 1978. Vearl was a member of the Masonic Lodge #219, the Mt. Vernon Tall Cedar Lodge, and the Antique Automobile Club. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Vearl is predeceased by his brother; Herbert Bowers; and his first wife, Edythe Bowers. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, three daughters and their husbands, a son, an honorary son, four grandsons, and a great-grandson.

8742 Vella Ward, 77, of Carter County, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Vella was born in Johnson County, Tenn., to the late Eugene and Annie Campbell Arnold. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Winnie Ruth Arnold; her husband of 33 years, John Henry Ward, in March 2019; a daughter, Betty Ann Hughes; her brothers, Bobby Gene Arnold, Dallas Arnold and James Arnold; two sisters, Sylvia Miller and Frances Richardson; and four step-brothers, Jerry McFall, Ronnie McFall, Bill McFall and Fred McFall.
Vella was a wise, selfless, loving, caring, kind, insightful and faithful woman of God and she was never afraid or avoided hard work. She was a faithful member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church and she retired from Baxter International after nearly 30 years of dedicated service. Vella enjoyed gardening in her flowers, journaling, going to church and praising the Lord. Most of all she loved and enjoyed taking care of her family and loved ones.
Those left to cherish her wonderful memories include her step-children, Karen Marie Ingram, Donna Kay Ward and Terry Lynn Ward and his wife Sheila; her grandchildren, Bridget Renee Neff (Wayne Gordon Whitehead III), Whitney Ingram and Brandon Ingram; two sisters, Geneva Kate Eldrith and Hattie Pearl Atwood; and a step-brother, JR Wagner ("Tude"). Several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Vella Ward will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 29, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Jeremy Burleson officiating. 8743 Velma Lee Clemons, 89, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, from Ivy Hall Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Velma was born in Carter County to the late Coy and Nora Guy Greene. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. Clemons, in 1999; a son, Wayne Edgar Clemons; six sisters; and two brothers.
Velma was well known for her baby quilts, embroidery work and her work in the church. She was a homemaker and a member of Charity Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian and also sang alto with several quartets.
Those left to cherish her memory include one son and two daughters-in-law, Vernon Ray Clemons and wife Juanita and Pearl Clemons, all of Johnson City; two grandsons, A.J. Clemons of Johnson City, Tenn., and Wayne Clemons and wife Jessica of Bowling Green, Ky.; one granddaughter, Kathy Ann Stevens and husband Charles of Johnson City; six great-grandchildren, T.J. 8744 Velma Young Grindstaff, age 94, of Minneapolis went home to be at rest on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Dudley "Dud" and Virginia Lewis Young. She was also preceded in death by a Son: Glenn Ray Grindstaff; Grandson: Robert Bradley Grindstaff; Sister: Virginia Young Johnson and Brothers: DR Young, Jr. and Champ Clark Young. Velma was a member of Minneapolis Baptist Church where she taught the Children's Sunday School class for many years. She retired from Minneapolis Elementary School after 44 years of teaching. She enjoyed fishing, working in her flowers and spending time with her great-grandchildren.

Surviving is her Son: Lewis Grindstaff and wife, Donna, of Minneapolis; Daughter-in-law: Linda Grindstaff of Concord; Grandchildren: Jaime Grindstaff of Minneapolis, John Grindstaff of Minneapolis and Ray Grindstaff of Concord; Great-grandchildren: Courtney and Shelby Grindstaff; Sisters-in-law: Bootsie Young and Ruth Young, both of Minneapolis and her Caregiver: Lois Ingram. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Open Door Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy Carver and Rev. David Hobson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Minneapolis Cemetery.

8745 Vena Inez Jones, 101, of Newland, N.C., passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.
She was born on May 30, 1920 in Avery County to the late Henry and Della McGuire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Judd Jones; and sons, Lane, Alfred, Edward, and Harley Jones.
Vena was a member of Fall Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She loved listening to gospel music and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dickie Jones of Newland, NC; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren. and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Carver and the Rev. Mike Ricker officiating.
Visitation took place from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial took place in the Fall Creek Cemetery.

8746 Vena Kathryn Estep Good, 93, Elizabethton, passed away March 30, 2023, at Hermitage Health Center in Elizabethton following a stroke. She was born on December 29, 1929 to Sherman and Pearle Asher Estep of Stoney Creek. Vena moved with brothers to Ohio, and it was there she married Charles Thomas Good. They made their home in Monroe, Mich., where she took pride in raising their children. She returned to Elizabethton after they had grown and moved away. Raised in Holly Springs Free Will Baptist, she was also a past member of Monroe Missionary Baptist in Michigan. Vena had a lifelong love of baseball, music, and was a fan of college basketball with March tournaments being her favorite times. Above all, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Joseph Good; a granddaughter, Anna Grayson Sanders; brothers, Walter Howard Estep Sr. and John Wesley Estep; and sisters, Eller Estep, Eula Estep and Ethel Bowers. Vena leaves behind a son, John (Margarita) Good; daughter, Cindy Norris; daughter-in-law, Deborah Good; five grandchildren, Rachael “Liz” (Don) Selby, Sean Good, Alex (Natelee) Good, Kathryn Sanders and Sarah Sanders; two special great-granddaughters, Piper and Riley Selby; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eric Sams officiating. Interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery (Stoney Creek). Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

8747 Venia Ann Stout, age 82 of Mountain City, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Hermitage Health and Rehab Center. Venia was born on April 3, 1937 in Johnson County, TN to the late Clarence Stout and Dora Lowe Stout. Venia is preceded in death by sisters, Mary Wallace, Shirley Smith; brothers, Charles Stout, Homer Stout, Bill Stout, Carl Stout; brother-in-law, Robert Wallace.

Venia was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Richard Stout and wife Sharon of Elizabethton, TN; sister, Josephine Laing and husband Larry of Todd, NC and many nieces, nephews and friends.

There will be a graveside service held at Reece Memorial Cemetery, 187 Liberty Church Rd. at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 24, 2019 with Richard Stout and Gale Hartley officiating and special music by John Brookshire. 8748 Vera B. Hardin, age 82, 137 Bill Nave Loop, Elizabethton, died Friday, Dec. 15,
2006, in Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness. She was
a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Daniel S. and Nellie
Rutherford Bowers. Mrs. Hardin was a homemaker who loved all types of music and
could play seven or eight instruments by ear. She was a member of Blue Springs
Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Morrell Eston Hardin. Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Grant
W. and Phyllis Hardin, Hampton; two grandsons, Gregory McKinney, Hampton, and
Jamey Hardin and wife Jennifer, Elizabethton; three granddaughters, Cindy Lenore
Canter, Angela Hardin Shingleton, both of Elizabethton, and Suzanne McKinney,
Kingsport; four great-grandsons, Zachary Hardin, Elijah Shingleton, Dustin
Canter, and Levi Shingleton, all of Elizabethton; two great-granddaughters,
Keaton Shingleton, Elizabethton, and Madison J. McKinney, Kingsport; and two
sisters, Viola Gross, Hickory, N.C., and Pat Cole and husband, Fred,
Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for
Mrs. Hardin will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, in the Tetrick
Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with Mr. Richard Thomason, Minister officiating.
Music will be under the direction of the Blue Springs Men's Quartet and Kathy
Thomason, organist. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday in
the chapel prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home of a sister
and brother-in-law, Pat and Fred Cole, 836 Willow Springs Road, Elizabethton, at
other times. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday,
Dec. 19, in Grover Bowers Cemetery, Blue Springs community. Those attending are
asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to
the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gale Oliver, Terry Oliver, Shirrell
Bowers, Steve Pierce, Denny Bowers, Keith Church, Steve Franklin and Sam Ellis.

8749 Vera Lee Julian Vance, age 73, of Heaton Creek Rd., Roan Mountain, died Saturday, September 20, 2003 at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Earnest and Mollie Street Julian.
She was a member of the Upper Heaton Creek Holiness Church and was retired from the Carter County School System, Cloudland Elementary School, where she was a teacher's aide
in special education. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy A. Vance, on August 14, 1996. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kappie Lee and Donald Vance, of Newland, N.C.; three sons and two daughters-in-
law, Larry and Rosemary Vance, of Elizabethton; Ron and Carolyn Vance, of Roan Mountain, and Danny Ray Vance, also of Roan Mountain; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marie and Walter Wise, of Marion, N.C.; Rada and J.B. Jones, of Tarpon Springs, Fla; one brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Shirley Julian,
of Roan Mountain; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A special caregiver, Kerry Clark,
of Roan Mountain, also survives.

8750 Vera Stout Jordan, age 86, of Mountain City, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in the Mountain City Care Center were she was a resident for 17 years.

Vera was born March 12, 1925 in the Pandora Community of Johnson County. She was the daughter of the late J. Blaine Stout and Etoila Bell Hicks Stout and stepmother Ruth Jones. She graduated from Steed Business College and worked for Mountain Electric Coop until the birth of her fours sons. She devoted her life to raising them. She grew up in Pandora and was saved at a young age and attended Bethel Baptist Church. She and her family moved their membership to First Baptist Church in Mountain City, in 1967.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, S.D. Jordan, who passed away on December 30, 2001 and brothers, Willard Ray Stout of the home and David " Bert " Stout of Chapin, SC. She is survived by four sons, John B. Jordan of Fort Pierce, FL, Terry Jordan and wife Mary and Jerry Jordan and wife Judy, both of Mountain City, and Phil Jordan and wife Doris of Hermitage, TN; one brother, Rubin Stout of Mount Pleasant, SC; three sisters, Helen Walsh of Columbia, SC, Mary Alice Johnson of Hermitage, TN, and Ann Greer of Mountain City; grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Jordan, Jennifer Campbell, John (Davina) Younce all of Mountain City, Tammy Jordan of Butler, Gerald "Jerry " Jordan, Jr. of Cleveland, MS, Sarah Jordan and Justin Jordan of Hermitage, TN; seven great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. She also left many friends at the nursing home and her special friend Minister Jim Hutchinson.

Her family would like to thank all the staff and workers at Mountain City Care Center for their love and affection enabling our mother to be so happy and the care she was given. We would like to thank Caris Healthcare for their wonderful services they provided in her last four days of life. We would like to thank Doctor John Whitlock for the many years of health care he provided and the Johnson County Rescue Squad for their many trips to the Boone Hospital.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012 at First Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Ricky Campbell and Dr. Kenneth Jordan to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Ms. Bethany Campbell, Deanna and Makynna Younce. The graveside service and interment will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 31st at Sunset Memorial Park. Vera's grandsons, Michael Jordan, Gerald Jordan, Jr., and John Younce; great grandsons, Cody Jordan, Gary Evans and Joseph Townsend will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and workers at Mountain City Care Center and Dr. John Whitlock.
