7902 Selma Bowers Conley passed away in Christ on Friday, May 5, 2017. Service: A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Arlington Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4409 Pleasant Ridge in Arlington, Texas. Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Gayle Tucker Building Fund, Arlington SDA Church by calling 817-483-4837.. Selma was born and lived in Elizabethton, Tenn., for 16 years. She moved to Dallas, Texas, married Louis H. Evans in 1948. Together, they had six children. She married Howard S. Conley in 1979. Selma was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, Nana, Grand-Nana, and good friend to countless people. She was a charter member of the Arlington SDA Church, helping to build the congregation from a 35-member church to one that is now over 2,300 members strong. After faithfully serving as the church secretary/treasurer for over 20 years, she retired in order to enjoy family and friends. She resided in Keene, Texas, the last two years of her life, where she was loved and cared for by many wonderful staff members of Chisholm Trail Estates. Selma was preceded in death by mother, Mary Elizabeth Williams; father, Emeril Bowers; brother, Eric Bowers; husband, Howard Conley; and grandson, Jonathan W Evans Jr. Survivors: She is survived by siblings: Joyce Bowers, James Bowers, Keith Bowers and Sandra Bowers Cederborg, She leaves behind her children: David H. Evans and wife, Jill, Donald L. Evans, Diane Trujillo and husband, Rudy, Mark A. Evans, Paul S. Evans and wife, Cindy, Jonathan W. Evans Sr. and wife, Terri. She was "Nana" to Rudy Jr., Melissa, Michael, Jonathan Jr., Na'Cole, James, Christopher, Chelsey, Justin, Brian, Josh, Alexis, and Emily, and their spouses. 7903 Selma Colbaugh Parlier, age 91, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Riley Fred Colbaugh and Mary Smith Colbaugh. Mrs. Parlier retired from North American Rayon Corporation and she was a member of Borderview Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling to gospel singings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grady Parlier; an infant sister, Evelyn Colbaugh and three brothers, Glenn Colbaugh, Harry Colbaugh and Freddie Colbaugh. Those left to cherish her memory include two brothers, Herman Colbaugh and Gene Colbaugh, both of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
A service to honor the life of Selma Colbaugh Parlier will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, March 28, 2016 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Scott Fisher, minister officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the service or at the residence of Jim and Tami Colbaugh at other times. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Allen Parlier, Jim Colbaugh, Doug Colbaugh, Rick Colbaugh, Justin Colbaugh, Hershel Scalf, Jason Wiseman and Grant Colbaugh. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

7904 Selma Patricia 'Pat' Farthing Kirby, age 77, of Vilas, North Carolina, took up permanent residence upstairs on Friday, June 14, 2019. She was born on July 13, 1941 to the late Dr. BR Farthing and Selma Thomas Farthing. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by a brother, Barton Farthing.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 36 years, Dean Kirby; one son, David Farthing; two daughters, Lora Chapham and Crystal Farthing; sister, Teddie Stewart and husband Dennis; nephew, Andrew Stewart; niece, Lydia Pract; two wonderful kitty cats; special friends, Ed and Ellen Roark.

Pat was employed by Appalachian State University for 41 years as a Professor in the Library. Her one goal in life of teaching was to make a difference. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Vilas, NC, where she served as librarian. She also loved singing in the church choir.

Pat enjoyed riding her ATV and being the co-owner of Dean Kirby's ATV Rental. Most of all she loved being Dean's wife.

The family will receive friends from1-2:30 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Bethel Baptist Church, Vilas, NC. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Toby Oliver and Pastor Derek Wilson officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Farthing Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lynn Farthing, Steve Ficklin, Bill Dishman, David Hagerman, Victor Fortune and John Burden. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Johnson and her many special friends.

7905 Selmer Paul Hammons, age 89, of Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, went to his heavenly home on Monday, April 15, 2019, peacefully at his home. He was born on November 21, 1929 in Mountain City, TN to the late Andy W. and Lora Callie Simcox Hammons. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by an infant brother, Dexter Hammons; one sister, Bernice Payne. He was raised by his grandparents, Emerson and Cora Simcox from the age of 7 months, after his mother passed away.

He was a member of Hammons Chapel Christian church, where he served as Deacon and Elder for many years.

Paul worked many years as a carpenter and brick mason. He enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening and farming. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and loved helping them anytime he could.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 68 years, Thelma Mast Hammons; one son, Doug Hammons and wife Michaeline; one daughter, Linda Thompson and husband Charlie; grandsons, Brandon Thompson and wife Amy and Lance Hammons and Sandra; granddaughter, who adored him, Mandy Hawkins and husband Charlie; five great grandchildren, Scottie, Gracie, Izzy, Macey and Michael; brother, Elmer Hammons; sister, Viola Joines; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Mountain City Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 with Minister Joshua Giddings officiating. Eulogy will be given by Bob Heck. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Hammons Family Cemetery, located behind their home. Pallbearers will be Scottie Tester, Brandon Thompson, Lance Hammons, Charlie Hawkins, Charlie Thompson and Larry Henson. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Hammons Chapel Christian Church.

Our dearly beloved brother, George Allen Elliott, left this earth for his heavenly home on May 4, 2023. George was a kind, loving, honest free spirit who trusted everyone. George leaves behind his loved and faithful companion dog Maggie, who he raised from a puppy; one sister, Emma Elliott Wilson; one son, David Elliott; cousins, nieces and nephews; and good friend, Jim Tolley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Stacy Elliott and Edith Elliott Hill; brothers, Buddy Roger and Billy Wayne Elliott; and infant son, Daniel Elliott. A short memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 1 p.m. at Washington County Memory Gardens, 113 Memory Garden Road, Johnson City, Tenn., in the Cross Section.

Floyd J. Bowers, 76, 1436 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Bowers was a Carter County native and a son of the late William and Lola Carriger Bowers.

He was retired from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Mr. Bowers was a previous Sunday school director and member of Siam Baptist Church, Elizabethton.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 49.

Mr. Bowers was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mildred Jenkins Bowers; one son, Larry Dean Bowers; and one brother, Ray Bowers.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maxie Bowers; one stepson, Daniel Andrew Johnson, Hampton; two sisters, Pearl Ayers, Elizabethton, and Ina Mae Soto, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Floyd J. Bowers, age 76, 1436 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, June 21, 2001 will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with Revs. Jack Roddy, Ray Stockton, and Billy Stockton officiating. Graveside services and entombment will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors to be accorded by Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. I, J. W. Snyder, do make and publish this as my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and making void all others by me at any time made.

First. I give to A. F. Snyder and wife Mary Snyder, the home tract of land containing 140 acres formally owned by R. M. Snyder.

Secondly. I give to R. M. Snyder and wife Alice Snyder, all the land from A., F. Snyder's line to R. L. Bowmans line on the North side of Roans Creek.

Third. I give to Dan Snyder all the land I possess on the South side of Roans Creek.

Fourth. I give the Robinson tract of land to be sold and the money equally divided between J. L. Snyder, W. W. Snyder, and the two heirs of J. D. Snyder, shall have equally J. D. Snyder's share.

Fifth. After all my debts are paid the money and personal property that is left shall be equally divided between all my children.

James C. Collins, 57, died suddenly at his home, Route 1, Doeville Thursday at 12:40 a.m. He was a member of the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Collins and two sons, Eommy[sic] Collins of Butler, and George Collins of Knoxville; a daughter, Mrs. Charleen Kite, of Route 5, Johnson City; a stepson, Howard Collins of the home; and a stepdaughter, Christine of the home.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Clarence Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Cobbs Creek Cemetery.
The body will remain in the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home until 12 noon Saturday when it will be moved to the church.

7938 SEYMOUR, TN - Chester (Gene) McInturff, 89, of Seymour passed away on his birthday, Wednesday, March 10, 2021. He was born and raised in Unicoi, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patsy. They lived in Athens and Bristol before settling in Seymour, TN in 1979. Chester was an active member at Trinity United Methodist Church, Addilynn United Methodist Church, Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, and Seymour United Methodist Church. He enjoyed genealogy and traveling with friends and family. He worked for Mayfield's, Flav-O-Rich, Klenzade, and Ecolab as a consultant to the food industry. Chester was an army veteran who served during the Korean War. Chester was also preceded in death by parents, Shep and Lelia McInturff; brothers, Gaither, Kenneth, and Floyd McInturff; and sisters, Mabel Jones Renfro, Gertha Street, Virgie Ingram, Florence Seward, Jessie Lingerfelt White, Hazel Berry, and Eva Davis. 7939 SFC Carmon Whisnant, United States Army (Ret.) age 93, of Hampton went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from the Hillview Health Center of Elizabethton. Carmon was born on September 19, 1922 and was a native of the Tiger Creek Community in Carter County, born to the late Isaac (Ike) Andrew Whisnant and Lillie Mae Royal Whisnant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Terry Allen Whisnant; and several brothers and sisters.

Carmon was a United States Army veteran, having served 20 years. He served in the 104th Infantry Division, Timberwolf and he served in both World War II and the Korean War. He received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star and was a member of the DAV. He also retired from ETSU where he worked in the Campus Police Unit. Carmon was a member of East Side Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and operated the sound system. He loved to hunt and fish, and raising cattle.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Nave Whisnant, of the home; three daughters, Carmen Dianne Nelson, of Johnson City, Ellen Charlene Bateman, of Hampton, and Tammy Lynn Collins and husband Kevin, of Elizabethton; and five grandchildren, Todd Nelson, Travis Nelson, Shane Bateman, Amber Hall and Adam Collins. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mr. Carmon Whisnant will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Music will be provided by John Brookshire. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Todd Nelson, Travis Nelson, Shane Bateman, Adam Collins, Jamie Hall and Woody Whisnant. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of the East Side Baptist Church, friends and neighbors, and his friends at Hillview Health Center.

7940 Sgt. 1st Class J.W. (Billy) Ollis, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Feb. 19, 2020, at Cannon Hospital in Linville. He was born Aug. 17, 1930, to the late Harrison and Rose Brown Ollis. In addition, to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Devoe (Sarah Belle) Ollis, Ken (Lila) Ollis; Infant Brothers: Sam and Bynum Ollis; Sisters: Anna Mae (Raymond) Turbyfill, Eunavie McGuire and Roberta (Tot) Smith; Grandson: Steve Ollis

Billy was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Cranberry, NC. He retired from US Army as a First Sergeant on June 1, 1973, at Fort Bragg, NC, after completing 26 years of service. He served overseas for 17 years in Japan, Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster and Air Medal. He was awarded a Vietnam Campaign Medal with six battle stars, with cross of Gallantry and occupational medal for Japan and Germany, as well as the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster.

He was an active member of Cranberry Baptist Church and always had the testimony that he loved the Lord and his church family. He loved to garden, watch ballgames, always had a funny demeanor and wanting to put a smile on faces around him, talking about his life in the military and especially about his church, where he served as past Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher.

Sgt. Ollis was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 32 years: Claudette Henson Ollis of Cranberry, NC., Sons: Jonny W. Ollis (Sandra) of Roan Mountain, Tenn., Michael Ollis of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Daughter: Sandra King of Aurora, Colo.; Stepson: David (Danielle) Henson of Cranberry, NC; Grandsons: Aaron (Sharon) King and Gary Lee King, both of Arizona; Great-Grandchildren: Alex King of Arizona and Paige King Klein (Nick) of Hawaii; Sister: Silvia Ollis Bare of Elk Park, NC; several nephews, and nieces and cousins.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Hospice workers and the Hospital staff at Cannon Hospital for their loving, special care that they gave during this time of need.

Funeral services with Military Honors be held at noon on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, at Cranberry Baptist Church, with Rev. David Burnop officiating.

7941 Sgt. Major Jack Church Cress (Retired), age 82, passed away on Saturday December 20, 2014, at Hillview Health Care Center, Elizabethton, TN, with his family by his side.
Jack was born October 29, 1932, the son of the late L.N. (Bud) and Thelma Church Cress of Neva, TN. He was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence and Robert Cress; and a great-grandson, Shawn Wills.
Jack was retired from the United States Army after serving 21 years of service. He was very proud to be a solider and served his country with pride. Sergeant Major Cress served in the Korean and Vietnam War and also served in Desert Storm. He was stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C., Okinawa and Sendai, Japan, Hawaii, Germany, Presidio, San Francisco California, Fort McPherson, Ga., Fort Campbell and Fort Knox KY, and Fort Smith Arkansas. Jack was one of 18 soldiers that were sent from California to the 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, KY, to set up the first Data Processing Center Army wide.
Jack worked for Smith-Higgins Company in Johnson City as a Data-Processing manager for 10 years after retiring from the Army. He served Johnson County as purchasing agent for 5 years. The past 30 years Jack was self-employed as a tax preparer and book keeper.
Jack was a member of Vaught's Gap Baptist Church for 42 years, where he held the office of Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte Mink Cress, who lovingly cared for Jack and remained by his side throughout his lengthy illness; daughters: Katherine Lowman (Bob), Richmond, VA, Pamella Johnson (Rex), Elizabethton, TN, and Perriann Stanley (Jerry), Mountain City, TN; one sister, Margaret Cress, Mountain City, TN; four brothers: Joe Mack Cress, Mountain City, TN, John Cress, Morristown, TN, James Cress Midlothian, VA, and Sam Cress of Mountain City, TN; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Jack's family would like to thank the staff of Hillview Health Care Center for the excellent care he received. A special thanks to Nurse Penny Bradley who always made him smile.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Mountain City Funeral Home (Mountain City, TN) with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Brother Noah Broughton from Nancy, Kentucky, to officiate. Bro. Broughton was Jack's pastor in Fort Knox, KY, in 1968 and has remained a longtime friend. Music will be provided by Jack's grandchildren, Nikki Campbell, Monica Hardin, Bridgett Simpson and Garrett Johnson. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Stanley, Rex Johnson, Bob Lowman, Jason Lowman, Jared Lowman, Garrett Johnson and Joe Winebarger. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Gump, Harold Garland, Fred Mayfield and Tony Fowler.
A private family committal service with Military Honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will be held Friday December 26, 2014, at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

7942 Shade Estep, 67, Rt. 9, Southside Road, died Wednesday, April 8, of an apparent heart attack while attending services at Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.
He was a Carter County native and a son the late Godfrey H. and Lora Marie Richardson Estep.
Mr. Estep was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corp.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Estep was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon. He attended Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Holder Estep; two daughters, Diana Estep and Donna Estep, both of the home; two sisters, Helen Estep, Elizabethton, and Selma Swift, Opeka FL; one brother Burton Estep, Adairville KY; and several nieces and nephews.

7944 SHADY VALLEY - Delmer David Morley, age 94 of Shady Valley, Tennessee went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 05, 2018.

Delmer was born September 7, 1924, in Shady Valley, TN to the late David Jackson Morley and Cassie Delores Pierce Morley. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Brydie, Othella Icenhour, and Olena Levy; Eeight brothers, Felton, Leo, Otis, Curtis, N.T., Teddie, Freddie, and Autry Keys; two sons-in-law Jim Walker and Wayne Moser.

Delmer loved being outside and working in his vegetable garden and his apple orchard. He enjoyed sharing his extra produce with friends and family. Delmer enjoyed playing the guitar and mandolin. Delmer was a handyman who could fix anything.

Delmer was a World War II United States Army Veteran and was retired from Raytheon in Bristol, TN.

Delmer was a Christian and attended Shady Valley Baptist Church.

7945 SHADY VALLEY - Lorella Greer Tolliver, age 100, of Shady Valley, Tennessee went home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. She was born in Shady Valley on January 28, 1922 to the late Roby and Virdia Greer. In addition to her parents Lorella was proceeded in death by her husband of 72 years, Raymond Tolliver; four sisters: Sue, Tishia, Mandelene, and infant sister Nancy; daughter and son-n-law Sharon and Joe Copley; and granddaughter Kaleigh Tolliver.

Lorella and her four sisters were affectionately known as the “Greer girls.” They delighted in playing tricks, pranks, and creating mischief wherever they went. This practice never lessoned with age and if you messed with one of them, you got them all. Together they were a force to be reckoned with!

Lorella was a kind, gentle person who never met a stranger. She was a member of Shady Valley Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for 25 years. She was a homemaker and avid seamstress who loved to quilt. She continued this passion until the time of her death. Her greatest joy in this life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lorella is survived by her beloved children: Kenneth Tolliver and wife Nancy of Doe Valley, TN; Linda Arrowood and husband Robert of Bakersville, NC; and Stephen Tolliver and wife Kim of Shady Valley, TN; grandchildren: Ken Tolliver, Julie Tolliver, Laura Black, Allison Cromwell, Jaden Tolliver, and Kyla Tolliver; great grandchildren Sara Black, Nora Cromwell, and Grace Cromwell; one precious sister Ellen Dunn; several nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens (Gentry Cemetery) with Rev. Richard Stout officiating. Active pallbearers will be Robert Arrowood, Gary McQueen, Keith Miller, Gary Dunn, Dennis Miller, Bobby Miller, Benny Wright, and Benjamin Tolliver. Mandlene was the daughter of the late Roby James Greer and Verda Rachel Martin Greer of Shady Valley, TN. Mandlene was preceded in death by Delmer David Morley, her husband of 75 years. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Tishia Miller, Sue Miller and infant sister Nancy Greer; two sons-in-law: Jim Walker and Wayne Moser.

Mandlene was an active member of Shady Valley Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was an excellent seamstress and cook who enjoyed her beautiful flowers and working in her vegetable and flower gardens.

7947 SHADY VALLEY - Mary E. Main, age 76, of Shady Valley, TN passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the Bristol Hospice House. She was born July 17, 1946 to the late Dana Main and Ada Watson Main. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Main; nieces, Joanne Main and Gay Hensley; brothers, Gene Minton, Jimmy Hodson, and Delmar Main; sisters, Velma Blevins, Ruth Wallace, and Dorothy Wallace.

Mary was a very loving and caring person who was devoted to her family. She retired from Levi Strauss and was a member of Harmon Christian Church. Her sense of humor was a joy to her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Angela Brown (George); son, Chad Main; a special and beloved grandson, Dalton Brown, who was the light of her life; lifelong friends, Brenda Wallace and Judy Watson; and many special nieces and nephews.

7948 SHADY VALLEY - Odas Watson, age 78, of Shady Valley, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at his residence.

He was born April 15, 1941 to the late Elbert John (E.J.) and Bonnie Main Watson. Odas was a United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Crandull Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Nell Pope and Katherine Blevins; five brothers: Herman Watson, C.J. Phillips, Marshal Phillips, Ed Phillips and John Watson. Odas was formerly employed with Sperry Corporation, Raytheon Corporation and Dana Corporation.

Survivors include: his wife, Annette Reece Watson, of the home; sons: Mike and Kent (Judy); daughters: Bonnie (Arthur), Kelly (Michael); granddaughters: Jaylen, Danielle, Sasha, Chloe, and Kaylee; a grandson, Brandon and a sister, Annie.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 3 pm at the Crandull Church of Christ, Shady Valley, Tennessee, with Tracy Dugger officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 3 pm, prior to the service. Graveside service accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard and interment will follow in the Blevins Cemetery.

7949 SHADY VALLEY - Reford Elmo McQueen, age 96, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 06, 2019 at the Mountain City Care Center.

He was born on August 16, 1922 in Shady Valley to the late Willis and Hattie Blevins McQueen. In addition to his parents, Reford was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Cleota McQueen in 2015; sisters; Walsa Eller, Cleo Callahan and Okle Greer; and brother, Raleigh McQueen.

Reford was a United States Army Veteran having honorably served during World War II. He was a Sargent in the 701st Tank Battalion, serving under General Bradley. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Like most men of his generation, Reford grew up farming. He loved to farm and be outdoors. At age 16, Reford served in CCC camps in Washington. He was also a former employee of TDOT. Before losing his vision, Reford loved to read and cut wood. He was a true family man who worked hard to provide for his family, who he loved spending time with.

He was a member of Crandull Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Randy McQueen and wife Marty; sister, Lois McQueen Walker; grandson, Ryan McQueen and wife Joanna; great grandchildren, Eliza Mae McQueen and Eleanor Claire McQueen; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Crandull Church of Christ. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Tracy Dugger officiating. Singing will be directed by Mr. Elwood Cretsinger. 7950 SHADY VALLEY - Settie Main Garland, 91, of Shady Valley, TN passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 in the Hermitage Health Care, Elizabethton, TN.

She was a lifelong resident of Shady Valley, TN and was a daughter of the late Matt and Hazel Main. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Garland; a special companion, Tom Jenkins; six brothers, Charlie, Hubert, Walter, Jake, Bob, and Maynard Main; two sisters, Blanche Mahala and Elnore Garland; and two nieces.

Settie enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She was a member of Crandull Church of Christ in Shady Valley, TN.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Fenner and her husband, Richard, of Elizabethton, TN; a granddaughter, Jennifer Godsey and her fiance, Michael Reesman, of Butler, TN; a brother, Jack Main and his wife, Mary, of Shady Valley, TN; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Judy Watson, Pat Main, Eula Sluder and all the beauty shop gang.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:45 pm Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Crandull Church of Christ in Shady Valley, TN. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm Sunday at the church with Mr. John Maltais, minister officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Billy Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Earl Jenkins, Paul Morrison, Glenn Miller, John Hurley, Don O'Bryan, Bill Roberts, and McGetty Greer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leonard Lewis, John Grindstaff, Stan Shoun, and Carroll Jenkins.
