7601 Reverend Cecil Darold “Nick” Bradshaw began his new life in the presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the age of 79. Nick was a lifelong resident of Elizabethton, born to the late Samuel Jackson “Jack” Bradshaw and Marie (Ball) Bradshaw. Nick was also preceded in death by a beloved son, Cecil Howard Bradshaw; a brother, Howard Bradshaw; and two sisters, Doris Lovelace and Barbara Bradshaw. To know Nick was to love him and he was loved by so many! Nick ministered at Little Milligan Baptist Church for 15 years and loved his church family and the Lord. In his spare time, you could find Nick fishing, hunting, and socializing everywhere he went. He was a light in so many lives and he loved sharing the love and word of God with each person he could. His greatest joy was time spent with his family and the memories he created will live on within them. Nick was also a retired veteran, having served 21 years in the Army National Guard. Nick leaves behind his cherished wife of 56 years, Vickie Davenport Bradshaw; two wonderful and devoted sons, John (Lisa) Bradshaw of Johnson City and SFC (R) Robert (Mandie) Bradshaw of Elizabethton; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Autumn Bradshaw and Nicholas Bradshaw, both of Elizabethton; and his sister, Linda (Shelby) Williams of Elizabethton. Nick also leaves several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends, neighbors, and church family to cherish his memory. A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Reverend Nick Bradshaw will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Mountain Home National Cemetery (53 Memorial Blvd., Mountain Home, TN 37684) with Pastor James Richardson officiating. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside. All of Nick’s close friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

7602 Reverend Dr. Vance Penley Davis passed away at the age of 84 Monday, October 24, 2022, due to complications after quadruple bypass surgery. Born in Asheville, NC on July 6, 1938 and raised by his parents, Ila Virginia (Plummer) Davis and Harry Clifton Davis.

Vance spent his early years in Swannanoa, NC, where he attended Owen High School graduating with honors. He earned his B.S. at Berea College majoring in Math and Physics. Vance served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy (1961-66) as the officer in charge of an Under-Water Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Diving Team. After military service, he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, where he earned his Ph.D. in Psychology of Religion and was an ordained Baptist Minister. Vance served for 40 plus years as a hospital Chaplain, Chaplaincy Trainer (CPE) and Counselor in Mental Health and Veterans Administration Hospitals in the State of Tennessee.

Vance, his wife Elizabeth (Liz) and his 3 boys travelled the US and many countries around the world enjoying his lifelong passion for hiking and camping. He loved the outdoors and experiencing the different cultures and religions that touched his life. He passed this love for nature and people of different cultures and beliefs on to his family, friends and co-workers. He was a student of life and a teacher of many.

Vance was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Sarah Elizabeth (Tester) Davis, RN (d. 10/19/19) and survived by his 3 sons Jeffrey Neil Davis, 61 (Billie), Gregory Litton Davis, 57 and Thadd Alan Davis, 55 (Kelley), his sister-in-law, Frankie Anne Tester. Vance was also blessed with (5) grandchildren, Caitlin and her daughter Aya, William, Darius, Nina and Izzy.

7604 Reverend Herman Rhea Crumley, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at his residence. Herman was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Eston and Ethel Crumley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Worley Crumley and Kenneth Crumley; one sister, Grace Crumley; and one nephew, Jerry Crumley.
Herman was a member of Doe River Baptist Church, where he served as an Assistant Pastor and Sunday School Teacher. He also supplied for the Watauga Baptist Association. Herman retired from East Tennessee State University. He was a wonderful husband and dad and loved to witness to people about the Lord.
Herman also enjoyed riding motorcycles, collecting old cars, meal times and spending time with his family — especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Herman is survived by his wife, Charlotte Calloway Crumley, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marcella and Murrel Mullins of Elizabethton, Betty and Tim Mason of Knoxville and Misty Crowe (Billy Hilton) and special grandchildren, Madison and Mariah Crowe of Elizabethton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Lynn Crumley and wife Michelle of Butler; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Crumley of South Carolina and Ina Mae Campbell of Elizabethton.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of Reverend Herman Rhea Crumley will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 13, at Doe River Baptist Church with Reverend Daniel Fink and Reverend Jim Hawk officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams, Joey Cole and Teresa Bowers, pianist. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence at other times. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 14, in the Wilson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Herman’s grandchildren.

7605 Reverend Hollace A. Ford, age 79, Jonesborough, went to be with the love of his life Betty and walk hand in hand with Jesus, Sunday, April 27, 2014.

Rev. Ford was born in Washington County on October 14, 1934 and son of the late Thomas Nelson "Boots" & Cleo Catherine Ford. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Ford, two brothers, Blaine Ford and Abijah Ford and two sisters, Phyllis Smith and Barbara Bare.

He had served as Pastor at Hawthorne Church of the Brethren for 33 years. He was a very compassionate husband, father, brother and minister.

Rev. Ford retired from Kennametal Corporation and as a minister of the Church of the Brethren.
He was a United States Army Veteran having served in Germany and France.

7606 Reverend Norman Ray Loveless, 80, of Piney Flats, Tenn., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, at home. He was born in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Dave Loveless and Mildred Jenkins Loveless. Reverend Loveless was the Minister for Oak Dale Freewill Baptist Church in Bluff City, Tenn., and was the Pastor in area churches for over 50 years and ordained in 1971. Reverend Loveless enjoyed preaching, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Peterson Loveless; sister, Shirley Hartley; and grandson, Joshua Ray Loveless.

A funeral service to honor the life of Reverend Norman Ray Loveless will be conducted at noon on Saturday, September 4, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home. The family will receive friends between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service and committal will follow in the McKeehan Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Jimmy Arrowood, Pastor Charlie Trivette and Pastor Terry Richardson officiating. 7607 Reverend Paul “Henry” Norman Crowe went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 24th, 2022, at the age of 83 years. He fought a good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith.
The Lord truly blessed us with Paul. Born in Johnson City, TN, Paul spent his time on earth being the very best son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, mentor, & brother in Christ. Throughout his life, Paul enjoyed spending time with friends & family (especially “his sweetheart, Helen” & his little dog Banjo), fishing, hunting, collecting old coins, and trading cars. He dedicated his life to bringing hearts to the Lord, pastoring over his flock at Piney Grove FWB for 53 years. Our hearts ache with his passing, but we celebrate knowing that he is now shouting the victory with Jesus, family, and friends “where the roses never fade.”
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Dennis R. Crowe, mother, Ruby Crowe, brothers, Kenneth “Bud” Crowe & Dennis “Doodle” Crowe, step brother, Ron Crowe, & mother-in-law, Ruth Arnett.

7608 Reverend Thomas William Shell, 83, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 22, 2015 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Reverend Shell was born in Johnson City on February 7, 1932 to the late Thomas William Shell, Sr and Disa Watson Shell Conroy. He was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas Shell. Reverend Shell was a US Air Force Korean War veteran.
He was a retired Baptist minister and had pastored several churches in IL, OH and Maine. He served as interim pastor in Wise and Hurley VA and at Snow Memorial Baptist Church in Johnson City. He also had his own ministry “Revival Ministries for Today” that broadcast across Canada and the northern tier states. Reverend Shell was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Shell; one daughter, Barbara Finney, Naporville, IL; one son, Michael Shell, Jonesborough; grandchildren, Thomas Shell and Angela Rade both of IL, Dustin Shell and wife, Lacey, Nashville, TN and Kristen and Zackary Shell both of Jonesborough; great grandchildren, Kristopher Shell, Macey Shell, Cailey Rade and Isobel Rade and many friends. 7609 Rex B. Presnell, 67, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness. Rex was preceded in death by his father and mother, George W. and Nannie Byrd Presnell; a brother, Larry Presnell; a sister, Violet Gibson; his wife, Janie Presnell and her son, Curtis Terry. Rex, the youngest of 11 children, was a kind and loving person. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was a former employee of East Tennessee Undergarment Company and had also worked in the heating and air conditioning industry before retiring due to disability. Survivors include a brother, George Dean (Sandra) Presnell; seven sisters, Loretta (Ken) Rainbolt, June Winters, Ruth Parlier, Norma (David) Babb, Trena (Carl) Gibson, Pat (Clay) Montgomery and Diana (Ralph) Marlowe; his companion, Dula Hensley; his late wife’s son, Scott Rogers, and her grandchildren, Elle Terry and Jordan Rogers; and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. A gathering of friends will be conducted from 1 until 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family would like to especially thank Debbie Shaffer for all her loving care given to Rex during his illness.

7610 Rhoda Ann Penix, 88, Piney Flats, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Christian Care Center, Johnson City.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Elizabeth Watson Sanders. Rhoda was a member of Tri-Cities Church of God. She worked as a contract cleaner for the United States Postal Service. Rhoda enjoyed going to church and working in her gardens and greenhouse.

In addition to her parents, Rhoda is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Penix, a son, William Penix, three brothers, Bill Sanders, Fred Sanders and Frank Sanders and two sisters, Mary Grimm and Betty Sanders.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Donald Penix (Betty) of Fall Branch and Ronald Penix (Mary Lou) of Johnson City; two daughters, Patt Scott (Bobby) of Indiana and Betty Penix of Piney Flats; a daughter in-law, Debbie Penix of Elizabethton; a sister, June Eller (Jack) of Johnson City; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held to Honor the Life of Rhoda at 2:00PM on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Shell Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50PM. Pallbearers will be Derick Bare, Trenton Doerr, Terry Penix, Josh Penix, Lucas Penix and Robert Tapp.

7611 Rhoda Lea McKinney,84, of Elk Park, NC passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at her home.

She was born on December 10, 1933, in Carter County, Tenn., a daughter of Jacob Guinn and Blanche Arnett Guinn. Rhoda was a member of the Little Freewill Baptist Church and enjoyed working in her yard and garden. She loved to work on her wood pile.

She was preceded in death by her Father: Jacob Guinn; Mother: Blanche Guinn; Sisters: Sarah Whitehead, Myrtle Elliott; Brothers: George Guinn and Otis Guinn

Rhoda leaves behind to cherish her memory her: Husband of 62 years: J.D.McKinney of Elk Park, NC; Children: Jessie McKinney, Jerry McKinney, Kay (Roy) Erwin, Brian (Buffy) McKinney, Regina (Wayne) Erwin and Susie (Josh) Erwin.

Siblings: Mae Pate, Dorothy Forbes and Tommy Guinn.

Grandchildren: Aaron Zipp, Matthew McKinney, Renee Havron, Randall Harrald, Jacob Erwin, Derrick McKinney, James McKinney, Marie Erwin, Johnny McKinney, Tommy McKinney, Mary Erwin and Cody McKinney; Eight great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter.

Services for Rhoda Lea McKinney will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018, from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Sheppard officiating. Interment will follow in the Winters Cemetery. The family will receive friends from beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

7613 Rhonda (Ron) Lee Turbyfill, age 85, of Elk Park, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC.

He was born on October 8, 1933 in Greene County, Tennessee, a son of the late Julius Edward Turbyfill and the late Ada Ward Turbyfill.

Ron served his country during the Korean War in the US Air Force. Upon returning home he went to work for the James Quillen VA Medical Center as a Fire Inspector and remained there until his retirement. He volunteered with the Johnson City Fire Department and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and riding his Harley. Ron was a Mason and attended the Blue Ridge Mountain Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Son, Bobby Edward Turbyfill; Five Sisters, Helen Johnson, Hilma Watson, Audrey Hamilton, Geraldine Ward, Wanda Phillips; Brother, Ray Turbyfill.

7614 Richard "John" Stout, age 82, of 607 Fairground Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Saturday morning March 20, 2010 in the Johnson County Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Grady Stout and Queen Wolfe Stout.

John was a member of First Baptist Church in Mountain City. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing golf, and watching sports on TV but he was most passionate about his daughter Suzanne. He received the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce Small Businessman of the Year Award in 2007 for his City Shoe Store. Also, he was a member of the Jaycees, Lions Club and an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne Stout Jones.

John is survived by his wife, Betty Vaught Stout, of the home; one sister: Betty Walker and husband George of Kernersville, NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his loving and faithful dog Chester.

The family would like to extend a special thanks for the kindness and care given to Mr. Stout by the Johnson County Community Hospital ER Staff and Dr. James Shine along with Elaine Henley, Debbie Scott, Goose Arnold, Donna Arnold and all the many friends in John's life.

7615 Richard "Pete" Bowers

Richard "Pete" N. Bowers, age 84, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Asbury Place of Johnson City.

He was born in Carter County, Tennessee, to the late Martin C. and Sylvia Davidson Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Bowers, Ben Bowers and M.C. Bowers Jr.; and one sister, Mary Bowers.

He was retired from Bowers Brothers Real Estate and worked part time at Office Max in Johnson City. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton, the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce and the Merchant Marines.

Survivors include one brother, James L. Bowers and wife, Sue, of Elizabethton; three nephews, Mark Bowers, of Afton, VA, Kirk Bowers, of Christiansburg, VA, and Lynn Surratt, of Elizabethton; and one niece, Lisa Sprague, of Elizabethton, TN.

A special thank you to the Asbury Place of Johnson City for the love and care given to Mr. Bowers and also to Dr. Kellie Sorrell.

7616 Richard A. "Rick" Guinn, 65, of Roan Mountain, was born May 11, 1953 at the home of his parents, on Bud Miller Road, Roan Mountain. On Thursday, October 4, 2018, Rick received divine healing from our Lord, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Shell Guinn; a daughter, Melissa McMahan; and a grandson, Jerry "Bubba" Potter. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Clifford Guinn, Harold Guinn and Norma Jean Montgomery.
Rick earned a living and provided for his family as a master craftsman and expert carpenter for 51 years. He loved the mountains of upper East Tennessee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Cloudland football. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports and dance. He loved cookouts and picnics.
Rick is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Jones Guinn; two sons, Chad and wife Katrine of Cameron, N.C., and Derrick and wife Carissa of Roan Mountain; two daughters, Sue Ann Guinn Foster of Roan Mountain and Johnnie Guinn Russ of Johnson City. Rick's pride and joy was his 13 wonderful and loving grandchildren, Dylen Markland, Macy Markland, Meagen Markland, Kenzie Foster, Lilly Guinn, Elijah Guinn, Mikah Guinn, Hadassah Guinn, Blake Dugger, Kaila McMahan, Danielle McMahan, Emma McMahan and Erica Guinn. 7618 Richard Andrew Tester, age 60, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Banner Elk, NC on August 24, 1962 to the late Andrew Tester and Margaret Owens Tester.

Richard enjoyed his ham radio, CB radio, growing plants, taking his dog, Chi-Chi for rides and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Kristi Tester of Mountain City and Jennifer Hallmark (Nick) of Grand Junction, MI; Six grandchildren, Bella Tester, Aurora Tester, Aaliyah Tester, Nikolai Hallmark, Arabella Hallmark and Willow Hallmark; Brother, Eddie Tester (Brenda); special dog Chi-Chi and several special friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7,2023 from 12 - 2 pm in the Buford Lipford Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home. Following the visitation we will go in precession to the Sunset Park Mausoleum of Love where we will have a committal service at 2 pm with Michael Icenhour and Steven Spencer officiating.

7619 Richard D. Lowe, age 85, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away at Broadmore Assisted Living on Saturday, January 2 after a short illness.

Richard was preceded in death by parents, Kemp and Callie Shoun Lowe, and brothers and sisters, Earl, Ned, Nathan, Van, Ruth Chambers, Bess Branch, Grace Hines, and Anna June Lowe, as well as his first wife, Edith Roberts Lowe, who died on June 25, 1990, and second wife, Jean Darr Lowe, who died on November 17, 2008.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Agnes Lowe, Telford, TN; and numerous nephews and nieces, including Patricia Reece, Mountain City, TN; Darryl Lowe, Knoxville, TN; Nathan Lowe, Jr., Bristol, TN, Robert Lowe, Roanoke, VA, Felix Lowe, Bluffton, SC., Elisabeth Munsey, Johnson City, TN, David Lowe, Middleton MA, Donna Penick, Northridge, CA, Eddie Penick, Roanoke, VA and great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Richard served with the U.S. Navy in the Second World War from May 13, 1941, until the date of his honorable discharge on October 23, 1945. After discharge from the Navy, Richard worked in Washington D.C. as a commercial painter until he retired and moved to Johnson City. He was very close to his many friends from "the paint store." He loved to travel and sailed on many cruises all around the world. He also enjoyed UT football and tailgating.

Special recognition to niece Diane Saults and great nieces Lisa Orr and Penny Reece for their devoted love and attention. Also, thanks to the many special people at Broadmore Assisted Living who got to know Richard well in such a short period of time and who provided care for him.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The family will then proceed to Washington County Memory Gardens for graveside services at 2:30 p.m.

7620 Richard Dale Greer, age 73, of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by family.

He was born on April 20, 1939 to the late James Lester Greer and Etta Villar Eastridge Greer.

Dale worked at Bristol Door and Lumber for 17 years and retired from Harris -Tarkett Hardwood Flooring following 25 years of service. He loved to stay busy and tinker on things, but he really enjoyed working on small engines.

He was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge F & AM #243.

Dale is survived by his nephew, who was like a son, Jamie Grayson; sisters: Drema Richardson and husband Glen and Martha Collins, all of Mountain City, TN; brothers: John Greer and wife Pauline, Ronald Greer, all of Mountain City, TN and Wayne Greer and wife Ida of Norristown, PA; special niece, Amy Grayson; special brother-in-law, James Gentry; several more nieces and nephews and many special friends.

The family received friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Billy Morefield officiating.

7621 Richard Douglas Pennington, 82, of Danville, died on April 17, 2018 at Bright Leaf Place in Danville. He was born in Pittsylvania County, on April 19, 1935, son of James Andrew Pennington and Ella M. Pennington McClanahan.
He served as an officer for the Martinsville Police Department and Dan River Mills. He served in the US Navy in the Korean War. He served in the Air National Guard for twenty-six years. He was a member of Schoolfield Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Lee Wagner Pennington; daughters, Arlene Pennington Smoot (Calvin) and Donna Pennington Williams; two sisters, Carole McClanahan and Virginia M. Hughes. He was also predeceased by three brothers, George T. McClanahan, Edwin F. McClanahan and James R. Pennington; a sister, Marion M. Wade.
Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.

7622 Richard H. Hardin, 85, Elizabethton, passed away, Friday, May 26, 2017 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Hubert J. & Delia Campbell Hardin. He retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 29 years of service. He was a Bus Driver for the Carter County School System for 15 years. Richard was an avid Unaka Ranger Fan and also UT Sports fan. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lois J. Hardin, June 19, 2015 and by a son Richard Leslie "Ricky" Hardin.
Survivors include his children: Pamela Wilson and husband Daryl, and Jonathan Hardin, both of Elizabethton. Four Grandchildren: Beth Wilson Tester and husband Paul, Sarah Wilson Oaks and husband Ryan, Amanda Wilson Neas and fiancé Joe Harville and legend Hardin. Seven Great Grandchildren: Lucien, Kagan, Raelyn, Nathaniel, Nicole, Hannah & Leslie and his 14 year old dachshund Scoop.

7623 Richard Harrison Isaacs, born August 15, 1844, Foscoe, Watauga County, N.C., was the son of Emsley Isaacs, SR and Jane Aldridge as thier second child of four children born.

He had two sisters, Elizabeth and Lilly Isaacs and one brother, Emsley Isaacs Jr. Emsley Isaacs Jr. was my Great Grandfather.

7624 Richard Joe Casey, 87, Butler, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.
He was born in Hampton, Tenn., to the late Charles Edward and Mona McNeil Casey.
Joe attended Watauga Academy in Butler and graduated from Hampton High School in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After retirement from Akron Trailer Manufacturing, Akron, Ohio, he and his wife moved back to Butler, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Eulee Clark Casey, and his children, Charles E. (Dorothy) Casey, Elizabeth A. (Brian) Richardson and James R. (Robin) Casey. Also left to cherish his memory are his beloved grandchildren, Joseph (Jodi) Casey, Jodi Casey, Mallory Taylor and Kylee Anders; his sister, Wanette (Dallas) Odom; sister-in-law, Deloris Sneed; and several nieces and nephews.

7625 Richard Keith Rowe, 78, passed away on April 8, 2023. Born on January 11, 1945, in Limestone, Tennessee, to Ward and Ethel Rowe, Rick worked on his family's dairy farm until earning his undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University. Upon graduation, Rick was commissioned as an officer in the US Army. He served as a Ranger with the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart. After his military service, Rick returned to East Tennessee State University and obtained his Master's Degree in Environmental Health.

Rick moved his family to Columbia in order to work at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. In 1989, he was given the position of North Carolina Director of Environmental Health in Raleigh, NC, before finishing his professional career as the Wake County Director of Environmental Services. Rick was the proud recipient of a number of national, state and local awards for his work in environmental health.

Upon retirement in 2007, Rick and Deborah relocated to Columbia to be closer to their children. He was active in the Vista and Downtown Community, serving as President of the Vista Neighborhood Association and President of Renaissance Plaza Homeowners Association. Rick proudly served on the boards of Transitions, Vista Guild Association, Downtown Neighborhood Association, and Trustus Theater. He was a faithful member of Washington Street United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees and co-founding the Active Faith Ministry.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Carol Hutto Clements, of Lexington. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Deborah T. Rowe of Columbia; his son, Richard K. Rowe II (Kristie) of Columbia; daughter, Robyn H. Carter (Jason) of Branchville; son-in-law, Derek Clements of Lexington; brothers, Daryl Rowe (Sandra) of Limestone, TN; Dale Rowe of Knoxville, TN; and sister, Sharon Lewis (David) of Limestone, TN. He was most proud of his grandchildren, Wyatt Rowe, Hayden Rowe, Ellis Rowe and Caleb Carter. He is also survived by his beloved chosen family, Mike and Charlotte Broome and Sam Waldrep of Columbia.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Charles Butler of SCOA and Rick's Angel, Dusty Burrell, who helped with his fight against cancer, always providing excellent care and empathy. We are also grateful to our Renaissance Plaza Family for their contribution to our independence and happiness. We treasure our lasting Raleigh and Hilton Head friendships and memories, and our lives have been enriched by the love and support of our church family.

Rick dedicated his life to service: whether it was farming, protecting the environment, fighting to preserve freedom, enriching the community, or ensuring that each individual be afforded basic human rights. He gave his all to honor God, His creation and His people.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm on April 26, 2023, at Washington Street United Methodist Church. Rick will receive military honors at his burial site where he will rest next to his beloved daughter. Family will receive guests after the service.

7626 Richard L. Eggers, age 91, a well known resident of Jerry Lane, Abingdon, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 10, 2004 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born August 19, 1912 in Zionsville, North Carolina, a son of the late William Claude Eggers and the late Emma Miller Eggers. He and his family moved to Virginia in December, 1923. He attended elementary schools in Mabel, North Carolina, and Lodi and Meadowview, Virginia. He attended Greenfield High School and was a graduate of Rich Valley High School. He was a former truck driver, a licensed insurance adjuster, and for many years was the owner of Eggers Insurance Agency in Abingdon. He was a salesman for Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon for many years and was a retired farmer. He was the last male charter member of the Abingdon Bible Church where he had served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He had attended Greendale Chapel for the past several years. He loved baseball, was a member of the Greenfield High School Baseball Team during high school and later served as a coach for the Moose Team of the Babe Ruth League and helped lead the team to a state championship. He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, McCabe Lodge No. 56 for over 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Japan. He had a great love for the Lord, reading, music, and traveling. He and his family sang in a Gospel quartet for several years and had a Sunday morning program on WOPI radio. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, James G. Eggers and R. Glenn Eggers; three sisters, Pearl Eggers Jones, Bonnie Whiteaker Nash and Edith Compton; and a granddaughter, Kim Lotts Campbell.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Dora Mae Jones Eggers; one daughter, Phyllis Eggers Lotts and husband K. W. (Wick) Lotts of Abingdon; two sons, Richard Larry Eggers and wife Jo of Buchanan, Virginia, and the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers and wife Dorinda of Abingdon; Grandchildren, Laura Beth Greer of Abingdon, and Robbie Schlosser and wife Sandra of Roanoke, Virginia; three Great-Grandchildren, Josh Campbell of Lexington, Virginia, and Aaron Greer and Sarah Greer, both of Abingdon; one sister, Mary Lois (Tooty) Rutledge of Abingdon; three brothers-in-law, Charles Jones of Abingdon, Calvin Jones and wife Kathy of Abingdon, and Erwin Compton of Kingsport, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Myrtle A. He was a native of Johnson City and a son of the late Arra Belle Hyder Church.
Richard was a 1961 graduate of Lamar High School. He was a retired employee of Baxter Pharmaseal after 27 years of service. His hobby was fishing. Later in life he put his faith and trust in God.

Richard served his country faithfully, retiring from the U.S. Army, and served as a law enforcement officer with the Asheville Police Department for a short time.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; two sisters, Deborah Richardson and Sue Posey; and one brother, Mitchell Blevins.

He was a native of Mountain City, Tennessee, and had lived in Johnson City since 1960. He was the son of the late Richard S. Lowe Sr. and Cassie Ellen Lowe. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He was an Air Force veteran who served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Lowe retired from Eastman Kodak Company after 32 years of service. He was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and trustee. 7630 Richard Tyler Pearce, 82, Elizabethton, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at the Hillview Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Harvey & Delia Campbell Pearce. Mr. Pearce served in the United States Air Force. He was a Homebuilder. He was a man of faith loved his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Rick Pearce, one sister: Betty Thompson and two brothers: Kenneth & Charles Pearce. He was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years: June Carver Pearce. Two daughters: Deborah Jestes and Barbara Blevins, both of Elizabethton, one son: Mark Pearce & wife Diane, Johnson City. 7631 Richard was overseer for Fulton at Liberty Hall, Virginia for seven years. During the War of 1812 he joined the Light Horse Brigade Company and marched to Richmond, Virginia. When they arrived they found that peace had been declared. He served one month and assisted in removing the Indians. He went to Johnson County, Tennessee with his father and family in 1816. He was a farmer, stockman, coroner, Justice of the Peace and was in the legislature at Knoxville. His farm was the original Donnelly Homestead on Wilson Creek one and half miles north of what is now Mountain City, Johnson County, Tennessee. Newport News, Va., September 12- XXXX XXXXXXXX, 22, of Hornsbyville, York County, has been released on $2500 bond pending preliminary hearing on manslaughter charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Miss Ruby Gentry last night, according to York County Sheriff A.S. White. Preliminary hearing will be Wednesday in the county trial justice court at Yorktown.
The girl, a resident of Elizabethtown (sp), Tenn., died last night in a Newport News hospital of a rifle bullet wound.
White said investigation disclosed that XXXXXXXX was awakened by the barking of his dog last night and went out in the yard with his rifle. He fired one shot in the air and another into the shrubbery, the second bullet striking the Gentry girl.
Miss Gentry and Miss Odien Norris, a sister of Mrs. XXXXXXXX had been visiting the XXXXXXXXX and had left Saturday, presumably to return to their homes in Tennessee, White said. Instead they remained at Newport News, White said, and returned to the XXXXXXXXX home. They remained outside the house waiting for XXXXXXXX to go to sleep before they entered, the sheriff reported.
The other girl is being held as a material witness.

7633 RICHMOND, VA — Ola Mae McKinney departed this life on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the age of 102.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank L. McKinney; her son, Morris A. McKinney; and her granddaughter, Gina M. Bailey. She was also predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.

She was the first of seven children born to Zack and Buna Griffith McCourry of the Brummitts Creek Community. She was a loving mother to her children, F. Gail Bailey (Tommy) of Ocala, Florida, P. Kent McKinney (Judy) of Gray, Tennessee and Lenis M. Bullett (Doug) of Richmond, Virginia.

Ola leaves ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.

She graduated from Tipton Hill Sigh School in 1932. She was a caring nurse at Spruce Pine Hospital and the practice of Dr. George Kimberly in Bakersville. Ola was a long time faithful member of the Bakersville Baptist Church. She spent her later years living with her daughters, Gail and Lenis, with whom she shared fond memories of her childhood mountain home.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Vernon Buchanan and William Ellis officiating. Burial will be next to her husband, Frank, in the Grindstaff Cemetery.

7634 Rickey Lee Hatley Sr., 66, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly at Sycamore Shoals Hospital on December 8, 2021. Rickey was the son of Carl and Margaret Hatley.
Rickey was a self-employed carpet layer and of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Hatley; two sisters, Patricia Stout and Sheila Stout; and long-time girlfriend, Aleta Darnell, of the home.
Those left to cherish his memory are a son, Rickey Hatley Jr., a niece, Amy Montgomery, and a nephew, Doug Stout, as well as several other close family members.
Services for Rickey Hatley will be held privately for the family.

7635 Ricky Allen Tucker, age 57, of Johnson City (Gray area) went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 29, 2020, at Caregivers of Tennessee following a period of declining health. Born in Johnson City on June 7, 1963, a son of the late Warren G. and Josie Mae Wilson, he had resided in this area most of his life. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted brother and friend who loved to make you laugh.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Caregivers of Tennessee where he had resided for several years, and to Amedisys Hospice.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Dicky Ray; 2 infant sisters; brother, Michael; half-brother, John Bishop; and sisters, Mary Harshbarger and Betty Tucker.
Ricky is survived by brothers, Dean Tucker and wife, Jane, Warren Tucker, Jr., and wife, Shirley, Bobby Tucker, Teddy Tucker, and Steve Tucker and wife, Marylyn; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and his roommates and special friends, Ben and David.
A burial at Oak Grove Cemetery will be held at a later date.

7636 Ricky Eugene Braswell, 62, of 215 E. Mill Street, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness. Rick was born in Carter County to the late Thelma Cannon Braswell and Zebby Gene Braswell. After graduating from Elizabethton High School in 1979, he attended East Tennessee State University majoring in Engineering. In 1981 he married the love of his life, Marcia Montgomery Braswell, and had three children, Jennifer Braswell, Jason Braswell and Nathaniel “Blake” Braswell. Rick was a Journeyman Carpenter and Superintendent/Estimator for several large construction firms. He was of the Baptist faith. Rick enjoyed spending time with his grandson Noah and his family and NASCAR racing and golfing. In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Oma Cannon and James and Myrtle Braswell; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and mother-in-law, Bonnie Montgomery. Those left to cherish his memory include wife, Marcia Braswell; daughter, Jennifer; sons, Jason and Blake; grandson, Noah Braswell; sisters, Teresa Cochran, Tina Wyatt, and sister and family Lisa, Ronny and Taylor Byars; sister-in-law, Tami Peters and family, John, Haley, Laurel and River; as well as several special cousins, aunts, nieces and nephews. 7637 RIDGEVILLE, Ohio -- Alta Tester (nee Bunton), 81, a long-time resident of Eaton Township, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at the Aristocrat Nursing Home in Berea, Ohio, following a short illness.
She was born in Jonesborough, Tenn. and had resided in Eaton Township for 40 years.
She had previously lived in Cleveland.
She was employed for over 10 years at Grief Brothers in Cleveland where she did factory work.
She retired in 1985.
Mrs. Tester was an avid collector, and she had a collection of over 1,200 salt and pepper shakers. She also enjoyed embroidery, being involved in activities at the Aristocrat Nursing Home ans spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters, Jean Roch of North Olmsted, Ohio; Mary Fitts, of San Antonio, Texas, and Kathy Runyon of Grafton, Ohio; four sons, David M. of Parma, Ohio; Charles Robert of Litchfield, Ohio; Ronald of LaGrange, Ohio, and Kenneth, of Gafton; 20 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, in 1999; one daughter, Barbara, in 1994, and by one sister, Edna Cook.

7638 Rilla, as she was commonly known, indicated she was first married to George Washington "Joe" Latham, who died on 20 Jul 1885, as described in a deposition by her in 1904. George was described in a deposition taken during the same time, by John S. Davis, as the operator of a "moonshine business". It's unknown if Rilla and George were actually married.

Two children were born to Rilla and George: William Anderson (Latham) Carroll and Newton Edward (Latham) Carroll. Her sons would always use the Carroll surname.

Rilla married David McClanahan on 22 Oct 1885 in Blount County, TN. Performed by: J.G. Norton, Justice of the Peace. Her sons came to this union under the surname of Carroll.

Six children would be born to this union:
James Washington, Rachel Christine, John Enos, Edgar Norton, Isaac Lee and David Lyhue McClanahan.

At her death, Rilla was living in the home of her son, John Enos McClanahan and wife Sarah.

7640 ROAN MOUNTAIN - Hershel Julian, 80, of Roan Mountain passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, April 24th at his home. Hershel, a native of Roan Mountain, retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 30 plus years of service. He was passionate about hard work and enjoyed farming. He provided everyone in the community with a variety of produce, and loved sharing his crops with others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Mable Julian, of Roan Mountain, TN, and his wife, Barbara Julian, of Roan Mountain, TN.

He is survived by sons, Craig (and wife Connie Julian) of Roan Mountain, and Brad (and wife Kera) of Huntersville, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jacob (and wife Brooke Julian), Joshua Julian, Laura Julian Taylor (and husband Casey), Jared Julian, Andrew Julian, Jonah Julian, Lincoln Julian, and his great-grandson Judah Julian. He is also survived by two brothers, Don (and wife Pat) Julian, Gerald Julian, and sister Ondrea (and husband Lonnie) Clark.

A service to honor the life of Hershel Julian will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 26, 2018 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain with Pastor Brent Nidiffer, officiating. 7642 ROAN MOUNTAIN - Betty Grace (Smith) Winters, age 91, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born April 27, 1931 to Amanda (Lewis) Smith and Keener Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; and her son, Roger (Murph) Winters; as well as nine siblings.

Betty enjoyed working in her flowers, reading and working puzzles. She also liked feeding hummingbirds and watching the turkeys and deer.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Kathy Osborne and husband Rick, grandson Allen and LaDonna Osborne and great grandson, Tyler Colbaugh; her sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, Betty had many special friends from Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a lifetime member. Tony and Jean Eller, whom she loved dearly, were always so kind and available whenever she needed them; Katherine Shell was a dear friend; a very special niece, Iris Johnson was like a daughter to her; and the Bible Study Ladies were a joy in her life.

A service for friends and family to celebrate memories of Betty will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Friday, November 18, 2022 at the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home (Roan Mountain) with Pastors John McCoury and Justin Deaton, officiating. Friends and family may visit from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the service in the chapel.

7643 ROAN MOUNTAIN - Beulah Street, 85, Roan Mountain, passed away at her residence surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, January 2, 2016. A native of Roan Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Myrtle (Birchfield) McKinney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Lee, Ray, and Jack McKinney and a sister, Helen Tolley.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 67 years, Dillard Street; a son, Roy Street and wife Jeanette, Roan Mountain; five daughters and their spouses: Charlotte and Jim Smith, Vanessa and Ralph McKinney, Teresa and Raymond Stout, Chandrea and Richard Shell, all of Roan Mountain, and Missi and Dana Crawford, Elk Park, N.C.; a sister, Louise Hughes, Roan Mountain; and a brother, R.L. McKinney and wife Juanita, Elizabethton.

Her legacy of love also lives on through her extended family, many friends, and the grandchildren she adored, including grandsons Lawrence Street, Joshua Crawford, Cody Street, and Dalton Shell; granddaughters Emily Gray, Sarah Hardin, Ondrea McCourry, and Ashley Crawford; great grandchildren Kaylee and Jacob Street, Jayden and Hadley Gray, Bryson Hardin, and Dillon and Danny McCourry; and a special niece, Kendra Childers.

Perhaps her greatest joy was serving others. With an unwavering faith and a heart filled with love, she was a blessing to all who knew her. Her love and hugs will be remembered by her cherished Heaton Creek community and her church family at Roan Mountain Seventh Day Adventist. Her care and love also extended to those she considered her "adopted" children: nieces Annette Stang and Renee Durham, Harold and Linda Miller, Sam Johnson, and Brian Crouch.

Born July 3, 1973 in Banner Elk, NC he had lived most of his life in Roan Mountain. He was a graduate of Hampton High School. He was employed as an Auto Mechanic, at Fairway Ford, Kingsport. He was preceded in death by his father Tommy Harlan Harrald, August 28, 2013 and by his Maternal Grandfather: Jack Elliott.

Survivors include his wife: Connie Potter Harrald, Elizabethton His Mother: Joyce Elliott Harrald, Watauga, and His Brother: Mark Harrald, Watauga. 7645 ROAN MOUNTAIN - Dickie Green, age 89, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

Dickie was born at his home in Roan Mountain to the late James and Ethel Potter Green. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Burton; and five brothers, James Green, Jr., Emmett Green, Dayton Green, George Green and Jake Green.

Dickie was a very quiet, humble, selfless, meek man that loved his family dearly. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain for the past nine years. Dickie was a United States Army veteran, having served for two years during the Korean Conflict. Following the service he retired from the Tennessee Highway Department (TDOT). Dickie enjoyed gardening, watching Kentucky basketball, HGTV, the Gaithers and Reverend Charles Stanley.

7646 ROAN MOUNTAIN - Ellen Hoss Hughes, age 90, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from the Waters of Roan Highland Nursing Center.

Ellen was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late James Garfield Hoss and Myrtle Crumley Hoss. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hughes; her son, Roger Hughes; her twin sister, Helen Hoss Hughes; five sisters, Lillian Ellis, Ruth Lewis, Mae Winters, Edith Jones and Margaret Buck; and two brothers, Carl Hoss and Paul Hoss.

Ellen had been employed for Tri-State Container and retired from Kennametal. She was a member of Cove Creek Presbyterian Church in Roan Mountain. Ellen loved to quilt, gardening, loved animals and enjoyed cooking and canning.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Danny Hughes and wife Diana, of Roan Mountain, TN and Gary Dean Hughes, of Florida; one daughter, Phyllis Whitehead and husband Danny, of Knoxville, TN; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren; one sister, Lydia Ann Shipley, of Bluff City, TN; and special friends, Wilma Townsend and Carolyn Johnson. 7647 ROAN MOUNTAIN - Genevieve Tipton, age 81, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from the Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Center in Roan Mountain.

Genevieve was born in Roan Mountain to the late James B. and Julia Ann Miller Tipton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, James Tipton, Lincoln Tipton, Charles Tipton, Herb Tipton and Jack Tipton; and two sisters, Frances Goins and Bonnie Montgomery.

Genevieve was a homemaker and was a member of Sugar Hollow Baptist Church. She was always involved with the activities at the nursing home and loved to sing. Genevieve loved her church family, loved attending family reunions and just loved all people!

Those left to cherish her memories include two brothers, Johnny Tipton, of Roan Mountain and Ted Tipton and wife Betty, of Hampton; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Tipton, of Roan Mountain and Eddie June Tipton, of Baltimore, Maryland. She was born September 6, 1935 in Hampton to the late Jess B. & Gladys Brushingham Clark. Geraldine worked as a Pharmacy Technician and helped her husband build and manage multiple businesses in Johnson, Carter & Unicoi Counties, including a Gift Shop which she co-owned with her husband. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Newton G. Clark, Dana Allen Clark and Samuel Richard Clark. She was a member of Rittertown Baptist Church. She loved to work in her garden, flowers and loved to cook.

Survivors include her husband of 52 ½ years: Richard lacy. Three Sons: Rick (Rosetta) Ingram, Unicoi, Michael (Marcella) Ingram, Elizabethton and Richard Lee Lacy II, Atlanta, Georgia. He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Elijah and Sarah Pritchard Heaton.

Mr. Heaton was a member of Roan Mountain United Methodist Church and had been the owner/operator of Heaton Hardware. He was the retired president of Mountain Electric Cooperative. Mr. Heaton delighted in his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Hazel Pritchard Heaton; two brothers, Frank Heaton, Bill Heaton; and three sisters, Corinth Oxendine, Annabelle Hitechew and Betty Sue Heaton.

Herman was born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee to the late McKinnley and Rosa Brown Jarrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rickie Jarrett; six brothers, V.L. Jarrett, Joe Jarrett, Reece Jarrett, Norman Jarrett, Paul Jarrett and Junior Jarrett; and four sisters, Edith McKinney, Ruth Jarrett, Betty Jarrett and Shirley Jarrett.

Herman was a family man and a people person, who loved the outdoors, loved food, loved his family and loved others. He was a United States Army veteran, having served his country with pride in World War, II. He was a farmer and attended Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. Herman had worked in Cleveland, Ohio, Detroit, Michigan and worked at Cannon Memorial Hospital in North Carolina. He retired from Henredon Furniture in Spruce Pine, North Carolina and had also worked from Impact Furniture in North Carolina. Herman was a smart man, who enjoyed carpentry, gardening, farming and being outdoors, he was a hard worker.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Joyce "Josephine" Jarrett, of the home; six children, Brenda K. Barnett (Britt) and Easter Laws (Lynn) both of Roan Mountain, Teresa Jarrett, of Marion, NC, Treka Ellis (David), of Charlotte, NC, Darlene McClain (Jerry), of Old Fort, NC and Sherlene Hughes (Donny), of Icard, NC; two sisters, Dorothy Roberts and Carrie Gardner, both of Roan Mountain; one brother, R.E. Jarrett (Hazel), of Roan Mountain; twelve grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Several nieces and nephews, also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Herman Jarrett will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, February 4, 2019 in the Burbank Free Will Baptist Church in Roan Mountain, Tennessee, with Rev. Randy English and Rev. Jerry McClain, officiating. Music will be provided by Amber Wills, Andrea McClain and Aimie Duncan. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the church, prior to the service on Monday.

The graveside service will follow in the McKinney Jarrett Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be selected all veterans local and abroad.
