6901 Patricia Ann Hardin Rutter, age 68, 148 Rutter Lane, Erwin, passed away peacefully at 8:50 pm Saturday, June 9, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Grady and Sarah Waldrop Hardin. Mrs. Rutter received her Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Education degree from East Tennessee State University. She was a teacher for twenty three years at Evans Elementary School and Love Chapel Elementary School. Mrs. Rutter was a Career Ladder III Teacher, has been listed in the Who's Who in American Teachers four times, was state finalist in Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, received the Tennessee Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award, and was Conservation Educator for Tennessee.
She was a member of the Unicoi-Erwin Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 276, Friends of the Library, Kappa Delta PI, the Tennessee Education Association and the National Education Association. Mrs. Rutter was an honorary member of Maranatha Tabernacle.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery Dale Rutter in 1962, and son, Ira Craig Rutter, on August 7, 2008.
Mrs. Rutter is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Ira "Pete" Rutter; a daughter: Danielle Britt and husband Benjamin; three grandchildren: Jaxson Treadway, Jeffery Rutter and Liam Rutter; one brother: Buddy Hardin and wife Shirley; two sisters: Wilma Hughes, and Shelia Honeycutt and husband Don, all of Erwin; several nieces and nephews. Many friends including special friends: Harley and Kathy Bailey, Johnson City.

Funeral service for Patricia Ann Rutter will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 12, 2012, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend E. L. Wheeler will officiate.
Special music will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. Inez Chandler will provide organ music.
Active pallbearers will be Benjamin Britt, Michael Hardin, Les Honeycutt, Joe Richardson, Dallas Lloyd, and Chris Godsey.
The committal service will be held Wednesday morning, June 13, 2012, at 10:00 am in Evergreen Cemetery.

6902 Patricia Ann Puckett Robbins, 81, of Elk Park, North Carolina passed away Thursday July 7, 2022 at The Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Center in Roan Mountain, TN.

Born November 2, 1940 in Avery County, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Luther (Moss) and Iris Tate Puckett.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Orvel E. Robbins; and the father of her daughter, Houston (Joe) Trivette.

Patricia loved Jesus and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She loved going to thrift stores, sewing, flowers, reading and watching her favorite television show "Oak Island."

She had a special love for animals and especially her pets, Charlotte, Grace and Max.

Patricia worked at Hanes, J.C. Medical Center, and V.A. in Oklahoma and home care for patients.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Ramona Hayes and husband, Scott, of Elk Park; her beloved granddaughter, Makenzi and husband, Ryan, Buchanan of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Richard (Debbie) Puckett of Banner Elk, NC, and Carson (Judy) Puckett of Banner Elk, NC; one sister, Sheila (Terry) Banner of Hickory, NC. Special family friends at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and her close friends Johnny and Judy Anderson and Jim Treadwa, a friend she grew up with.

Celebration of Life for Patricia will be Saturday, August 6, 2022, beginning at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Elk River Road, Elk Park, NC.

6903 Patricia Faye Matheson, age 75, Jonesborough, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Matheson was born in Jonesborough and daughter of the late Ordie K. & Dorothy Keys Hilbert.

She was a member of Westside Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Lawrence Matheson, Jonesborough; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Lawrence "Dan", Jr. & Sandy Matheson, Ogle Thorpe, Georgia and Randall & Jane Matheson, Jonesborough; grandchildren, Andrew Matheson, Rachel Collette and husband Kevin, David Matheson and Aaron Matheson.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30PM Friday, December 27, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Ron Thompson officiating.

6904 Patricia Faye Maupin, age 75, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Patricia is survived by her son, Alan Maupin; brother, Terry Arney (Sally); niece, Tammy Owens; nephew, Terry Arney II.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doran & Thelma Arney.

Patricia Faye Maupin was born on April 13, 1947. She was a resident of Washington County, Tennessee her entire life. She worked at East Tennessee State University for twenty-nine years in the administration office. She loved fellowshipping at her church, serving others and was a powerful prayer warrior. Patricia “Pat” will always be remembered for her love of God, love of her son, and how she loved all around her, with unconditional love.

Receiving of friends will be at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, 418 W College Street in Jonesborough, on Monday, January 16, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Service will be at 7:00 PM, in the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Barry Burns and Pastor Emory Thornburg officiating.

Graveside Service will be at Union Cemetery.

6905 Patricia G. Pearson-Hamby, age 74, of Kingsport passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Patricia was born in Carter County, TN on October 21, 1945, to the late Earnest and Wanda Pearson.

Patricia was a member of Vaught's Gap Independent Baptist Church. Patricia loved to sing and collecting Angels. She took great joy in caring for her family whom she loved very much. Patricia loved her two companions, her every faithful kitties, Molly and Baby.

Patricia will live on in those left to cherish her memory. Survivors include her son Keith Dugger and wife Carol, daughter Amelia Dugger and husband Charlie; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas, Christopher Dugger, Earnest Dugger, Charlie Dugger, Michael Murphy, and Julia Winebarger; 8 great-grandchildren Anthony Thomas, JoJo Vargas, Kristina Dugger, Chris Dugger, Kinsley Dugger, Hailey Winebarger, Rowan Winebarger, and Jaden Picazo; 2 sisters Donna Stanley and husband Danny and Shirley Dorton and husband Everett; special friends April and Pam from United Health Care, Clara Mooncaster, Mary Hughes, and Pastor Cliff and Tina Cook, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Smokey Mountain Hospice and Crown Cypress, as well as April and Pam from United Health Care. The love and care you gave will not be forgotten.

6906 Patricia Janice Gregg, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Franklin Woods Select Specialty Hospital. She was born November 09, 1934 to the late Ira Tester and Minnie Ellen Gregg Tester. In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by sister Coleen Rader, and brother Jim Tester. She was Valedictorian of the first nursing class thru Johnson County Memorial Hospital, her places of employment included Staff Nurse at Johnson County Memorial Hospital, Office Nurse with DR Fred Wampler, Dr Gary Hullquist, Charge Nurse Mountain City Nursing Home. Gordon House Elete home for adults, Staff Nurse Orange County Nursing Home, and Charge Nurse for Louisea Nursing home. She was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed Bird watching, and Flower Gardening.

Those left to cherish her memories include: her sons; Michael Gregg (Eva) Mtn City, TN. Jesse Gregg (Misty) Mtn City, TN. Terry Gregg (Faye) Butler, TN. Brother Bill Tester, Lorain, OH. 5 Grandchildren, & 7 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great, Great, Grandchildren, Special Friends Nichole Campbell, Anlou Price, Peggy Johnson, and Phyllis Lipford. 6907 Patricia Jessee Hicks, 82, of Sharpsburg, Ga., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 7, 2022, in Jackson, Tenn. She was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on February 24 1940, the fourth child of Thomas and Fanny Kelly Jessee. Pat was married to the love of her life, Caroll Hicks, in 1958. She was a treasured wife, mother of two daughters, grandmother of five grandsons, great-grandmother of three, aunt, cousin and friend. She was loved by all who knew her.
Pat attended Elizabethton High School and the University of West Georgia. She and Caroll moved to Peachtree City, Ga., in 1970, and Pat was the original Peachtree City Welcome Center hostess in the early 1970s. She then joined Trammel Real Estate as the office manager, then became a real estate agent for Tri-Cities Real Estate, where she was a very successful agent and purchased the Peachtree City office, renaming it Prudential Pat Hicks Real Estate. Upon the death of her husband Caroll, she sold the company to Prudential Atlanta Realty, and assumed the title of President of Caroll’s lighting fixture manufacturing and importing company, Phase Two Lighting. Pat retired in 2006.
Pat and Caroll were world travelers, and enjoyed many international trips and cruises. They enjoyed 39 years of their happy marriage. They loved their grandchildren, and enjoyed family trips together.
In the early 1970s, Pat and Caroll were founding members of the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City, where she taught teen Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. Pat was among the first group of women to be admitted to the Rotary Club of Peachtree City, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. She enjoyed being a part of The Peachtree City Originals.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Caroll Hicks; her brothers, Wayne Jessee, Jack Jessee, Ronnie Jessee, and Harvey Jessee; and Sugar, her beloved companion of 18 years.
Pat is survived by her beloved daughters, Kathie (Steve) Fuston and Keely (Wyatt) Haynie; grandchildren, Bert (Jesse) Couch, Brent (Cassie) Couch, Logan Haynie, Travis (Emily) Haynie, and Nick Haynie; great-grandchildren, Blake Couch, Matthew Haynie, and Rose Couch; her much-loved companion Sallie; her sister, Jerri Simerly; her Sisters-in-Love, Irene Jessee and Darlene Jessee; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

6908 Patsie Phillips Thompson, widow of the late Port McDonald Thompson, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020.

Born in Crossnore, Patsie was the daughter of the late Charlie and Ethel Calhoun Phillips and sister of the late Carol Lou Yancy. She attended the Crossnore Boarding School, and she later moved to Charlotte where she lived for the final 57 years of her life. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, loved gardening, and caring for her dog, Sadie.

Patsie is survived by her Son: Curtis Thompson; her Daughter-in-law: Chris; Brother: Clinton Phillips; Sister-in-law: Sandra; her Nephews: David, Danny, Tim and Mark; her Sister-in-law: JoAnne Thompson, her Niece: Sherry Skinner; her Nephew: Greg Glassman, Honorary family members: Jackie and Kenny Lynch; and her granddogs.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2020, in the Clark Cemetery in Crossnore.

6909 Patsy "Tine" Eggers passed away on Saturday November 17, 2018 at her residence. She was born On January 8th, 1942, in Shouns, TN to the late Garfield Trivette and Vira Martin Trivette. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ottis Trivette, Clay Trivette, Verdie Mae Stout, Eula Faye Courtner, Bob Trivette, Dean Trivette, Arlis Trivette, and her best friend Maxine King.

Tine worked for many years at the Mountain City Glove Plant. When she wasn't working, she loved working in her flower garden. She was a member of the Rainbow Mennonite Church. Those left to cherish Tine's memory are her three sons; Steve Eggers and wife Sharon, Jimmy Eggers and wife Tonnie, Timmy Eggers and wife Barbara all of Mtn City, TN, two brothers Bill Trivette and Rod Trivette; seven grandchildren, Derek Steven Eggers, Jessica Renee Eggers, Tiffany Minks, Megan Sedgwick, Heather Minks, Anna Morefield, and Rebecca Condon; twelve Great-Grandchildren, one special Great-Granddaughter, Serenity Mae Alexander, as well as several nieces and nephews.

6910 Patsy ("Pat") Pittman Woodcock, age 78, of Black Mountain, entered her Heavenly Home peacefully at her residence on Thursday, July 29th, 2021.

Pat was raised in Minneapolis, NC, where she graduated a year early from Cranberry High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Her first teaching opportunity was at Charles D. Owen High School in Swannanoa, NC, where she taught Health and Physical Education and coached the JV Girls Basketball team and was the Assistant Coach of the Girls Varsity Basketball team. Teaching and coaching were her passions, and she was recently inducted into the Western North Carolina Hall of Fame for her part in leading the Warlassies to an over one hundred game winning streak.

It was while she was teaching in Swannanoa that she met the love of her life and best friend, John Max Woodcock, Jr. She married him in a small ceremony at Frank Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis in August of 1965. Later she worked with John in the office of the Woodcock Ford dealership for many years, before they sold the business and retired in 1997. For nearly 55 years, the couple was virtually inseparable, and they divided their time between Black Mountain and a second home in Hilton Head Island, SC. Pat loved travelling, and she was proud of the fact that she and John had visited every continent in the world except for Antarctica. She was an avid reader, and spent many happy hours with her nose in a book. Pat loved to cook for her family and friends and insisted on making every meal special and elegant. As a young woman, she taught her daughters basketball and tennis, and made sure they had a good foundation in exercise and sports. Pat endured a number of physical challenges but accepted the challenges cheerfully and with good humor and overcame each of them with grace, strength and dignity. Pat will be remembered fondly due to her unbreakable spirit, her ready smile, and the kindness and love she showed to everyone who entered her circle.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Herbert Pittman and Eula Clarke Pittman; her sister, Marietta ("Bud") Hughes; and her brother, Charles Pittman.

She will be remembered lovingly and fondly by her husband, John Max Woodcock, Jr.; daughter Julia Woodcock Dennis (Sean); daughter Mary Jane Woodcock Bernard; sister Jeanne Pittman Jennings; grandson Max Reid Bernard; and Zoie, her beautiful and beloved Cockapoo.

The family will have a private ceremony.

6911 Patsy Ann Mains Chappell went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 12, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on November 21, 1948 to the late William S. and Betty A. Mains. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert (Bob) Mains and son, Robert Shawn Boudle.

Survivors include her brother William (Billy) Mains of Maryland, her children, Shannon K. Clark, Stephanie A. Clark, Steven E. Chappell, and Kristy N. Perry/Presnell and husband, Norman Presnell.
Grandchildren include Trevor Clark, Tayla Clark, Caleb Boudle, Ciera Poteet and husband, Jason, Alton Clark, Colby Clark, Palara Clark, Darren Chappell, Bryce Chappell, Peyton Perry, Ryleigh Perry, Kynnedi Perry, Corbin Presnell, and Pacey Presnell. Great-grandchildren include Rhett Poteet and Memphis Poteet.

Special family and friends include but not limited to Ms. Darlene Tester, not only a cousin but Patsy’s best friend. They had many adventures together from early childhood right up to the time of her sickness. We are grateful for the love and support she gave to our mother.

A special thanks to her niece Codi Pass and Jason Pass for all their love and support and a special thanks to Shohn Perry.

A special thanks to Vicki Chappell Stout and husband Michael Stout, along with Calli and Carli, and Frankie and Bobbie Chappell and family, for their continued support and will always be our sister and brother, thank you for what you have been through with us. We love you dearly.

A special thank you to her cousin Everett Reece who called, continually prayed for her, and checked on her continuously.

There are so many people who helped and we thank all of you and sorry if we have missed your names. We send our sincere appreciation and love. Thanks to Hospice, Joanie, Laura, and especially Gail.

Patsy loved mowing her yard and planting flowers and especially her bird houses and feeding the birds. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved spending time with family, friends, and was always trying to help others. She was a strong woman her whole life and provided for and always made her family a number one priority. Patsy, you will be greatly missed and always loved and will be forever in our thoughts and hearts.

6912 Patsy Carol Courtner, age 73, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born in Bluefield, WV on July 20, 1945 to the late Smith Parsons and Callie Childress Parsons. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Mae Courtner, grandson, Robert Dean Courtner, sisters, Betty Shaw, Jackie Mokie and Linda Sue Parsons, brothers, Seabert Parsons and Roger Parsons. Patsy enjoyed reading books, gardening and taken care of her family and will be truly missed. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories included her husband of 57 years Kenneth Clarence Courtner, daughter, Brenda Mary Lynn Dugger and husband John, sons, Clarence Junior Courtner and wife Priscilla and Robert Dean Courtner and wife Stephanie, brothers, Kyle Parsons, Bobbie Parsons and Charles Parsons, grandchildren, Brandy Miller and husband Cory, Adam Dugger, Angel Courtner and Evelyn Courtner, great-grandchildren, Aiden Dugger and Skyler Robbins, several, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Shirley Allen.

The family will receive friends Sunday July 29, 2018 from 2-3:00 p.m. at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with R.L. Poole officiating, music will be by Shannon Courtner. Pallbearers will be John Dugger, Eddie Courtner, Howard Courtner and Timothy Dugger. Graveside service and burial will follow the funeral on Sunday from Rock Springs Church Cemetery.

6913 Patsy June Vance, 83, of Newland, N.C., passed away on September 28, 2021 at the Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, N.C.
She was born on April 26, 1938 in Avery County to the late Earl and Drexel (Deaton) Singleton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Gracie Brewer; brothers, Eddie Singleton and Billy Joe Singleton.
Patsy attended Forest Home Community Church. She enjoyed working in the garden, canning, and reading books. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She loved spending time with all of her family.

Patsy is survived by her husband, Billy L. Vance; daughters, Lori (Myron) Clark of Newland and Junie Biggs of Elk Park; grandchildren, Christy Hicks, Richie Houston, Joshua Brewer, and Justin Clark; great grandchildren, Bradley Reece, Sawyer Houston, Ridge Houston, Tucker Houston, Jorgia Houston, Lydia Brewer, Kailey Brewer, Isabella Brewer, Gunner Buchanan, Hal Hodges, and Jackson Borrack; brother, Roger Singleton; sisters, Tiny Bartlett, Vivian Woody and Peggy Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

6914 Patsy Leonard Barnette, age 83, of Johnson City entered into heavenly rest at her home on August 30, 2018 following a brief illness of metastatic cancer. She was the daughter of James Neal and Chassie Burton Leonard and younger sister to the late Madge Webster. Patsy grew up in Rogersville, Tennessee and graduated from Rogersville High School where she met her high school sweetheart, the band drum major Donald Ray Barnette. After a lengthy courtship and Don's four year stint in the Army, they married on July 2, 1960. They were later blessed with two sons. Patsy and Don were married for 57 years before Don's passing from Alzheimer's in January 2018. She and their sons were vigilant advocates for and care givers to Don throughout his illness.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Donald Ray, Jr. and wife Donna of Gray, and Leonard Scott and partner Mark Stevens of Brandon, Florida; nieces Connie R. Thomas, Morristown, Nancy Kaye Manis, Rogersville, and Chassie Gilreath and husband Randy, Surgoinsville. Always loved by the Barnette family members who now mourn her passing include: Sisters-in-law Brenda F. Barnette, Johnson City, Loretta B. Murphy, Johnson City, and Brenda F. 6915 Patsy Peters Stocton, 80, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., and currently of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Carter County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Charles Peters and Emma Davis Peters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, SSG Robert E. Stocton, and one sister, Kay Hill.
Patsy was a graduate of Hampton High School and grew up attending Union Baptist Church in Hampton, Tenn. She moved to Charlotte, N.C., where she had lived for 51 years. She was a bookkeeper for Harris Teeter and a Claims Representative for Travelers Insurance. She loved to read and work puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Cline and husband Danny, and Jeffrey Stocton and wife Gina; five grandchildren, Jessica Cline Peterson and husband Lee, Stacey Stocton Proffitt and husband Seth, Matthew Stocton and wife Ashleigh, Veda Lane, and Grayson Stocton; three great-grandchildren, Everett Proffitt, Kayleigh Stocton, Kamden Stocton, and one great-grandchild on the way; one brother, Charles Wayne Peters and wife Missy; one sister, Janey Rainbolt and husband Kenneth; and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

6916 Patsy Sue Tipton Bennett, age 72, 1375 Martins Creek Road, Erwin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 26, 2018. She passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her devoted and loving family. Patsy was a lifelong resident of Erwin and the only daughter of the late Herman and Belle Phillips Tipton.

She retired from her position as Assessor of Property after twenty-eight years of dedicated service to the citizens of Unicoi County. Patsy was an active, devoted and loving member of Faith Baptist Church for forty years. She taught the 5 to 8 year old Sunday School Class for thirty years. Patsy was a virtuous woman who loved the Lord with all her heart. “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

She was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and always enjoyed volunteering her time with various organizations. Patsy loved people and she never met a stranger! She loved flowers, growing flowers and making a dying plant come to life again......she was a natural green thumb. Patsy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice staff for all the professional and loving care they gave to Patsy and her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Ann Bennett on February 24, 2006.

She leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, her loving and dedicated husband of fifty-seven years, Ronnie Bennett; one son, John Bennett (Monica), Knoxville; four daughters: Ronda Williams (David), Regina Tipton (John), Becky Edwards (Travis) and Phyllis Harris (Sam), all of Erwin; five brothers: Wayne Tipton, Erwin, Franklin Tipton (Jeanette), Erwin, Ronnie Tipton (Lois), Johnson City, Leon Tipton (Joan) and Kyle Tipton (Josie), all of Erwin; fifteen grandchildren: Deanna Hardin (Michael), Joshua Williams, Philip Tipton (Brittney), Nathanael Tipton, Joseph Tittle (Rosie), Daniel Edwards, Kendra Miller (Christian), Hannah Harris, Isaac Harris, Terry Franklin, Jessica Lane, Jeremy Lane, Rachel Morrison (Jackie), Hunter and Peyton Bennett; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church and other times at the residence. Reverend Harold Lewis and Reverend David Williams will officiate at the 7:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Shirley Lane, Rachael Hendrix, Becky Hardin and Mackenzie Hyder. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Committal service will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery.

6917 Patsy was a native of the Boones Creek community of Gray, where she lived most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Hobert Matherly, Sr. and Susie Johnson Matherly.

Patsy was retired from Wal-Mart, where she worked as a stocker. Following retirement, she enjoyed working with the Habitat for Humanity.

She was a very active and loyal member of Boones Creek Baptist Church, where she served on the Revitalization Committee. Patsy loved her church, especially when volunteering in the kitchen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Christian, Jr., in 2003, and ten siblings, Robert Matherly, Bessie Matherly, Mary Lantz, Fred Matherly, Hobert Matherly, Jr., Howard Matherly, Walter Matherly, Terry Matherly, Janie Newton, and Hazel Matherly.

Patsy is survived by three sisters, Sue Fields and husband William, Kingsport, Edith Giebelstein and husband David, Clinton, IA, Sandy Stayer and husband Ronnie, Telford; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to express a very special thank you to Brandon and Josh Deal.

The funeral service will be conducted Friday, September 27, 2019, at 7:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Jason Royston, officiating. Special music will be provided by Virginia Barnes.

6918 Patsy Winters, 75, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, from The Waters of Roan Highlands. Patsy was a native of Roan Mountain and the daughter of the late Clifford and Pearl Heaton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, John Winters, and two brothers, Roy and Ray Heaton.
Pasty retired from Tulsa Dental and had also worked for U.S. Textile, I.R.C., and was currently working at the Whiteway Grill in Roan Mountain. She was a loving mother and grandmother, outgoing and energetic, and was above all a loving and devoted wife.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Angela Miller and husband Eddie of Roan Mountain; her son, Charles Keith Stout and wife Barbara Ann of Roan Mountain; two sisters, Juanita Miller of Roan Mountain and Barbara McCoury of Roan Mountain; three granddaughters, Patsy Adkins, Pam Adkins and Ronnie Danielle Miller, all of Roan Mountain; her first husband and lifelong friend, Charlie Stout of Hampton; a special step-grandson, David Miller of Roan Mountain; a special friend, Patsy Perkins of Roan Mountain; her friend and caregiver, Linda Potter of Roan Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.

6919 Paul D. Massengill, 91, of Bluff City, passed away after an extended illness on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was the son of the late Charles D. and Mollie E. Smith Massengill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Novella Eliza Massengill; a brother, Fred Massengill; and sisters, Mary Caldwell, Sula Bare and Nellie Massengill.
Mr. Massengill was a veteran of the United States Air Force and Navy, serving in WWII (Navy) and the Korean War (Air Force). He was a life member of the VFW. After service Paul was employed at Morrison Molded Fiberglass, Unisys, Sunstrand then Modern Forge. After his retirement from Modern Forge he and his wife spent their time traveling to every state in the Union, Canada and Mexico.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Karen Campbell and partner Keith Pierce of Elizabethton; a son, Timothy Massengill of Bluff City; two granddaughters, Christina Campbell of Bluff City and Carrie Campbell (Brad Jankes) of Los Angeles; and one great-granddaughter, Eliza Campbell of Bluff City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Paul Massengill will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel. 6920 Paul E. Estep 78, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George H. Estep, Sr. and
Bessie Norris Estep. He attended Unaka High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Paul was co-owner of Memorial Funeral Chapel that opened in August 1972. In 2004, he was recognized by the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association for 50 years of service in the funeral business. He was on the Board of Directors of Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank. He was a member of the following organizations: Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238, A 32nd Degree Mason, The American Legion Post Watauga 49 and the Sycamore Chapter #163, Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters: Grace Estep and Evelyn Taylor; and two brothers: Porter and N D; a niece: Sue Nave; and a nephew: Dwight Nave.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Ola Maxine Elliott Estep; two daughters: Kim Estep Wright and husband, Jeff, and Jill Estep Cooper and husband, Art, all of Johnson City; three grandchildren: Chris Wright and wife, Jennifer, Jordan Wright and Whitney Wright; four great grandchildren; three brothers: Lee Edwin Estep and wife, Gay, and George H. 6921 Paul Edward “Bo” Gouge, 95, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Bristol Regional Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert Avery and Etta Grace Kelly Gouge. He was a 1948 graduate of Unaka High School.
Paul served in the United States Air Force and was the retired owner of Bo’s Radio and Television Repair. In 2022 he was inducted into the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame. He loved fishing and spending his time outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Jones Gouge, who passed away March 1, 2018; two brothers, Ulyss Gouge and Willard Gouge; and one sister, Mary Evelyn Hicks.
Survivors include three daughters, Paula (Tom) Hayes, Bristol, Va., Betty Hicks and Richard, Elizabethton, and Mary (Clinton) Reed, Watauga; seven grandchildren, Tara Hayes, Lindsey Hayes and Sean Michael, Kelly Chapman, Eddie Deloach, Katrina Peters, Austin (Lacee) Reed and Lucas (Caitlin) Reed; nine great-grandchildren, Haylea, Kate, Billy, Kylie, Timothy, Ariel, Rylan, Zayden and Allie; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Bill and Jerri Sunderland.

6922 Paul Fritts, Jr. age 72, went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2021. He was a member of Limestone Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a trustee for many years. He was very active in the church helping with the youth, the high school Sunday School class, and annual Youth Retreats. He graduated from Johnson County High School in 1966. After graduation, Paul went to work for Pharmaseal Laboratory where he was a supervisor. Then he was called to serve his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War where he earned the Bronze Star. Later, his work called him to be a supervisor of Environmental Services at the Veterans Hospital where he worked until his retirement. He loved fishing at the “BigRock,” UT football and helping “his boys.” Most of all he loved God’s word.
He was a very loving husband, father, and Papaw to his family. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul Fritts, Sr. and Laura Campbell Fritts; his sister, whom he loved very much, Betty Jo Bowers.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Bailey Fritts; two sons, Paul Steven Fritts and wife Scarlett and Brian David Fritts and wife Melissa; six grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremiah, Emily, Journee, Alexis and Nevaeh Fritts; Brother, whom he loved so much, Jim Fritts and wonderful in laws and their families, his loving Church family and friends, and special grand dog “Gizmo.”

6923 Paul H. Pless, 87, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013, at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Pless was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Charlie Lee Pless and Rhoda Dalton Pless Murray.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Florence French; and two brothers, Charles E. "Chick" Pless and Glenn Pless.
Mr. Pless was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University. He had over 30 years of service in both the Carter County School System and the Elizabethton City School System, where he served as both principal and teacher. He was a former principal at T.A. Dugger Junior High School from 1969-1985.
Mr. Pless was also a United States Army veteran, having served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was an avid fisherman and his hobbies were woodworking and working with stained glass. He was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59½ years, Carolyn Rose Burrell Pless, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilynn and Richard Barker, of Elizabethton, and Susan Lee and Kevin Hodge, of Denver Colorado; two special granddaughters, Madeline and Andrea Hodge, both of Denver, Colorado; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Pless, of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service for Mr. Pless will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. John Smith, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of John and Mary Smith. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

Paul was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Avery County, a son of the late Dewey and Grace Ward Harmon. He was a retired self-employed builder and a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church.

Paul is survived by one son: Rex W. Harmon of Elk Park; one Granddaughter: Chasity Rominger and husband Brian of Vilas; one Grandson: Jason Harmon of Vilas; two Great-Granddaughters: Cora and Emma Rominger, both of Vilas; one Great-Grandson: Max Paul Harmon of Vilas; and one Brother: Ernest Harmon of Elk Park.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife: Madelyon Reece Harmon; and three Brothers: Walter, Burl, and Bernard Harmon.

He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Milt and Zula Buchanan English. He was retired as the director of aging for the Avery Healthcare System and was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He was a member and deacon of Beaver Creek Baptist Church and was a member of The Spruce Pine Lions Club and also Vesper Masonic Lodge #554 AF&AM Spruce Pine.

Survivors include his loving Wife: Aileen Buchanan English; one Daughter: Carolyn Denese English of Bakersville, NC; Granddaughter: Teddianne Broadbent (Jared), of Spruce Pine, NC; Great grandchildren: Teddy Herbert Broadbent and Riley Elaine Broadbent; a special Friend: Ted Ollis, of Bakersville, NC; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Paul was a retired dairy farmer. He loved to hunt and fish and was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Lyons Morrell, who passed away July 15, 2016; a son, Eugene Coleman; his brothers, Howard, Earl, Bill and Claude Morrell; and three sisters, Mary Lee Coleman, Norma Faye Morrell and Mabel Maney.
Survivors include his sons, Martin Morrell, Scotty Morrell and Brian “Hippy” Morrell; the step-children, Stevie Phillips, Roy Phillips, Jerry Phillips and Treasa Head; several grand and great-grandchildren; several step-grand and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mona Turner, Fairy Crumley, Nell Reed and Rose Foster and husband Darrell; his special friends, David and Sherry Stevens; his special great-grand-niece, Shae Truman; his great-nephew, Charles Turner Scalf; and also his special neighbors, Summer Ollis and Sawyer Stevens.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Jean Rupard Winters; two brothers, William Edward Winters and Harley Worth Winters and one sister Ethyl Elizabeth Arnold. 6928 Paul T Manning, 94, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the V.A. Medical Center Hospice. A native of Elizabethton, he was the son of the late Samuel and Nola Colbaugh Manning.
Mr. Manning was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served over 20 years in the military as a military policeman. He was a member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton, where he formerly served as deacon. His last service project for his Church was to pray for ten Church members weekly and would send them notes of encouragement. He loved to fish, watch the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed his grandchildren. Fourteen people considered him as their grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Stephens Manning; five sisters, Edna Donnelly, Willa Mae Campbell, Betty Hughes, Elizabeth Hughes and an infant sister, Pauline Manning, and two brothers, George Manning and Jack Manning.

A native of Spruce Pine, N.C., he was a son of the late Robert Burleson and Ida Ollis Burleson Minton. He had lived most of his life in Carter County.
Paul was retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 48 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. He was also a member of the Gallon Pin Program of the American Red Cross. Paul attended Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Guy and Johnny Burleson; a sister, Cora Burleson; and two grandsons, Dennis and Mark Matherly.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Mary Townsend Burleson; his children, Madeline Matherly and husband Carroll, Johnson City, Paulette Ashby and husband Bernard, Princeton, W.Va., Ginger Burleson, Trish Hughes and Tammy Moore and husband Mike, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Phipps, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Carl Hatley.

Mr. Potter was born in Watauga County on July 14, 1953, to the late Rom Butler and Mary Alice Snyder Potter.

He was owner/operator of Potters Lumber of Creston. He was the minister of Place of Rest Community Church. Paul enjoyed helping his friends and community. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, such as Rook and Hand and Foot. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; he will be missed by all.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Canter and Emma Nell Parsons; a brother, Luther Potter.

Mr. Potter is survived by his wife, Susan Jones Potter; a son, Paul Potter, Jr., and wife, Christina, of Jefferson; two daughters, Heather Potter Rickman and husband, Andy, of Spruce Pine and Shannon Potter Woods and husband, Gene, of Jefferson; three brothers, Sam Potter, of Hickory, James Potter, of Todd and Butler Potter of Todd; six sisters, Grace Miller, of Todd, Elithe Little, of West Jefferson, Zelma Miller, of Todd, Bea McMillian, of Crumpler, Mary Potter, of West Jefferson and Rachel Dancy, of Crumpler; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

6931 Pauline Benfield Greer, 97, passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, July 3, 2015, at her home in Elizabethton, Tenn. She was born on April 4, 1918 in Ingalls, N.C. Her parents were Elda Ollis Benfield and Floyd Preston Benfield. She was one of 10 children and is survived by one brother, Berlin Benfield. Mrs. Greer completed the 8th grade and went on to take some Business College courses at the school in Elizabethton. She worked at several jobs in her lifetime, but worked for 42 years at the North American Rayon plant, holding various jobs in multiple departments. She retired in 1984 and concentrated on her grandchildren, gardens and quilting. She loved flowers and quilting; in her lifetime, she completed over 500 quilts. Survivors include four children, Ashley, Sharon, Laura and Scott Jr. Eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive. A Celebration of Life Service for Pauline Benfield Greer was conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 5, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services. 6932 PAULINE CABLE Pauline Cable, age 88, 320 Sugar Hollow Road, Butler, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 3, 2003 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Bob and Laura Crosswhite Lunceford. She was a member of Meadowview Baptist Church. Mrs. Cable was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. "Bill" Cable, September 6, 1993, grandson, Darren Arney, brother, Loyd Lunceford, Brother-in-law, Oda Cable, son-in-law, Ellis Stanbery. 6933 Pauline Flo Guinn McKinney, 87, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Hillview Health Center after a brief illness. She was born April 8, 1935 in Carter County to the late Claude and Rachel Puckett Guinn.
Pauline was a retired employee of Inland Container after 40 years of service. She was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church. She loved to cook, go camping and take care of people.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Bob Nidiffer, and her second husband, Jack McKinney; a sister, Lucille Guinn Collins; and four brothers, Ed Guinn, L.D. Guinn, Mack Guinn and Thomas Puckett.
Survivors include her sisters, Erma Stevens, Louise (Carmon) Whitehead and Rose (Gordon) Lewis; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Dean Guinn; and her special friends, Jim and Addie Hyder and Ford and Karen Julian.

6934 Pauline Helen Whitehead, 85, of Hampton, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Linda Cochran Street.
Pauline worked at Levi-Strauss and retired from the U.S. Forestry Service. She attended Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fate Whitehead, and a sister, Virginia Cates.
Survivors include her children, Vivian Sneyd and husband Bobby, David Whitehead and wife Kim, Carolyn Whitehead and Sandy Whitehead, all of Hampton; six grandchildren, Cheryl, Travis, Becky, David, Heather and William; four great-grandchildren, including two that held a special place in her heart, Peyton and Ian; three brothers, Paul Street, Ronald Street and wife Aileen and Jerome Street and wife Jackie; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born March 6, 1929 in Bakersville, North Carolina to the late Waites & Geneva McKinney Hughes.

She had lived in Tennessee most of her life. She was a member of the Simerly Creek Fellowship Believers Church. She loved to work in her garden, flowers and loved to sew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Narvel Whitehead, a son: Calvin Whitehead and several brothers & sisters.

Survivors include a daughter: Angie Matice & husband Lee, Walterboro, South Carolina, a son: Alvin Whitehead, Elizabethton. One Granddaughter: Bethany Isaacs. A twin sister: Olene Arrowood and Myrtle Thomas both of Bakersville, North Carolina. A sister-in-law: Shirley Whitehead. Several nieces & nephews.

6936 Pauline Juanita Peterson passed on to Heaven on New Year’s Eve, 2021, at the age of 87. She was a native of Unicoi County, and the daughter of Cordia and Hobert Hensley. A loving homemaker, Pauline greatly enjoyed trying new recipes and making candy. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Morris Glenn Peterson, daughter Cheri Peterson Arthur, son-in-law David Arthur and grandsons, Joey and Aaron Arthur. She was preceded in death by her son, Scott Peterson, as well as her 13 siblings. Her siblings included: brothers, Bill Hensley, Edward Hensley, Jimmy Hensley, Eugene Hensley, Roy Hensley and Wayne Poore and sisters Roxie Nelson, Kathleen Ambrose, Willadean Edwards and Mildred Edney. In addition, she was preceded in death by three siblings who passed away as infants.

6937 Pauline June Chambers Arnold, 79, Elizabethton passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, with her loving children by her side. She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late John and Effie Holtsclaw Chambers.
Pauline retired from Denise Lingerie as a seamstress. She loved to travel, the beach and going to the Grand Ole Opry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, and her husband, Kenneth Arnold.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Terry (Taylor) Arnold and Tammy (Joe) Smithdeal; her grandchildren, Tiffany Kyviakidis, Thomas Cowan, Tara (Jason) Carden and Whitney Arnold; and her great-grandchildren, Legend Cowan and Tillie Carden. 6938 Pauline McKinney Little Hoilman, born June 8, 1923, of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and formerly from Johnson City, Tennessee, went home to meet her Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Mrs. Hoilman was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Merritt and Cinda McKinney.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hoilman was preceded in death by her first husband, C.E. (Gene) Little and her stepson, Paul Hoilman; her daughter, Dr. Penny Little Smith; her son-in-law, Dr. Stephen Smith; her brothers, Ethan, Hoover, and Ben McKinney; and sisters, Virginia Berry, Lena McKinney, Edith Sutton, and Naomi McKinney; sister-ion-law, Kaitlyn (Susie) McKinney; and a stepson, Keith Hoilman.

Mrs. Hoilman is survived by a stepson, Danny Hoilman (Luann), Johnson City, Tennessee; step grandsons, Paul and Scott Hoilman, Johnson City, Tennessee; and step granddaughter, Nikki Adkins and son Mason, Johnson City, Tennessee; a special niece, Pat Burrow (Larry); sisters-in-law, Joann McKinney, Marlene McKinney and Francis Jewett, Elizabethton, Tennessee. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Hoilman retired from NARC after 20 years of service. After her husband Paul retired, they enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida.

Mrs. Hoilman was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church and also attended Mountain View Baptist Church, Johnson City, Tennessee.

A committal and entombments service to honor the life of Pauline McKinney Little Hoilman will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Washington County Memory Gardens, Mausoleum Chapel of Memories in Johnson City, Tennessee with Pastor Nathan Jennings, officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, friends, and neighbors of Mrs. Hoilman. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at Washington County Memory Gardens at 1:50 PM on Tuesday.

She was an avid Atlanta Braves and Lady Vols fan.

6941 Pauline Robinson Reece died quietly in her sleep on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Laurels in Hendersonville, North Carolina. She was 99 years old.

Pauline was the daughter of Mollie Lowe Robinson and John Robinson of Doeville, Tennessee, where she grew up. She was the widow of the late Mark Twain Reece of Mountain City, Tennessee. She was the sister of William ("Willie") Robinson, Georgia Greer, and Claude Robinson and half-sister to Iva Neeley, and Paul Arney, all of whom preceded her in death. She had numerous nieces and nephews.

Pauline was descended from a long line of pioneer families. Her Lowe ancestors include Abraham and Jacob, who are listed among the founders of Johnson County, TN in the early 1800's.

Surviving family include her daughter, Doris Reece Leissing and husband, Henry, of Flat Rock, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Heather Anna Bates of Hendersonville, NC, Christopher Bates and wife, Rocio, of Gresham, OR., and Rebecca Shelley, of Asheville, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Dylanna Barton, Gabriel Bishop, Annabelle Bishop of Hendersonville, NC and Anneliza, Thomas, Caleb, and Andrew Bates of Gresham, OR.

Pauline attended Doeville schools and graduated from Washington College Academy in Jonesboro, TN in 1932. She earned a teaching certificate from East Tennessee State Teacher's College in 1934 and taught at Doeville Elementary, where Mark Reece was the principal.

After their marriage in 1938, Pauline and Mark lived in Doe Valley. She was a homemaker and he taught school and worked in Bristol, Tennessee during WW II. They moved to Shoun Street in Mountain City in 1948 and lived there until he died in 1984; she moved to Hendersonville in 1988.

Pauline loved beauty. She played the piano, had a perfect alto voice, and enjoyed raising flowers. She was best known for her poetry, which she often wrote to celebrate special occasions of her friends and family. She adored her family and held to a simple but enduring faith in God. She was baptized in Bethel Baptist Church, Doe Valley, TN as a child.

Pauline flourished for many years after she came to North Carolina to live closer to her daughter, but after her health declined she was cared for by the Laurels of Hendersonville, and for the past two years, by Four Seasons Hospice.

The family will receive guests at Shuler Funeral Home in Hendersonville, on Monday Evening, July 11, from 6 until 8 PM.

There will be a visitation and memorial service at First Baptist Church in Mountain City, Tennessee on Wednesday July 13. Visitation will be at 10 AM, with Memorial service following at 11 AM. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Mountain City, Tennessee. Friends and family are invited to return to the church for a lunch in the fellowship hall following the burial.

A native of Bluefield, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late W.B. & Vernie Mary Tanner Haldren. She had lived most of her life in Carter County. She had been employed by the Bemberg Corporation and North American Rayon Corporation. Mrs. Tolley was a member of the Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two half-sisters and two half-brothers and a sister & brother-in-law.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years: Raymond Tolley; One Son: Adrian Raymond Tolley, of the home; Two Sisters-In-Law: Ethel Hayes and Mary Tolley, both of Elizabethton; Several nieces & nephews; Her special friends: Darlene Smith, Roma Smith, Rosa Lewis and Sharon Smith.

6943 PEACH BOTTOM, PA - Richard B. Shoun, age, 76, of Peach Bottom, PA passed away on August 13, 2016. Born in Mountain City, TN, Richard had lived in Pennsylvania most of his life.

He was the husband of Judy A. (Caudill) Shoun with whom he shared 51 years of marraige. He was the son of the late Joseph C. Shoun and Opal L. (Mullins) Shoun of Peach Bottom. Richard attended Oxford area schools. He worked on the family farm and later worked as a diesel mechanic at the former Herr's Motor Express in Quarryville for 18 years prior to retiring due to illness. He enjoyed antique cars and Nascar and was an avid bowler. He was a member of Porters Grove Baptist Church in Conowingo, MD. He was a member of Washington Lodge No. 156, F & AM of Quarryville, PA and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in Valley of Harrisburg, PA and Lancaster, PA, Lancaster County Shrine, Shriners International, and Zembo Temple in Harrisburg.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Violet M. McKinney and husband Royce of Peach Bottom; Brother-in-law, Samuel Caudill and wife Susan of Midland, NC; Nephews, James McKinney, Lonnie McKinney, Raymond McKinney, and Jacob Caudill; a special great-nephew, Jeramy McKinney and wife, Sarah; and several great nieces and nephews and many cousins.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 6-8 pm followed by a masonic service at 7 pm at the Edward L. Collins, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 86 Pine St., Oxford. 6945 Pearl Graybeal Farthing, 109, passed away on December 25, 2014 at Christian Care Center in Johnson City, TN.
She was born December 4, 1905 in Watauga County, NC and attended school in Washington College, TN. She graduated from Science Hill High School and Appalachian School of Nursing both in Johnson City, TN.
In 1934, she married Albert C. Farthing and they resided in Boone, NC. They were married sixty-one years, until his death in 1995.
Pearl was a part-time nurse for a physician in Boone and worked as a clerk in the Watauga County Courthouse. She spent several years as a sales clerk at Newton's Department Store and Caudill's Department Store, both in Boone. Her hobbies included quilting, tatting, crocheting, and knitting. She created many beautiful pieces of handwork, still enjoyed by family.
Throughout her years, her greatest joy came from time spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Her love of children extended to the dear little ones in her care for over forty years at the First Baptist Church in Boone, NC. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of the church.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Albert C. Farthing, Sr., her daughter, Barbara Ragan, Barbara's husband, Frank Ragan, and her grandson, Bradford Allen Farthing. Also preceding her were siblings Mamie Graybeal Shull, Lucy Graybeal Lovell, Grace Graybeal Rauhof, Ruby Graybeal Norris, Austin Graybeal, Fred Graybeal, Roger Graybeal, and Frank Graybeal, and her parents, William Baxter Graybeal and Maggie Austin Graybeal.
She is survived by two sons, Albert C. Farthing, Jr and Wife, Ann, of West Jefferson, NC and William B. Farthing and wife, Libby, of Johnson City, TN. She also is survived by eight grandchildren, William Ralph Winkler, III and wife, Rhonda, of Boone, NC, Melinda Cook, and husband, Sonny, of Huntersville, NC, Deborah Cole, and husband, Tyler, of Asheboro, NC, Daniel Winkler, and Karen, of Blowing Rock, NC, Pamela Ann Farthing of West Jefferson, NC, Jeannie Gambill, and husband, Todd, of Kokomo, IN, Julie Griffin, and husband, Greg, of Lincolnton, GA, and Catherine Aldridge, and husband, Shawn, of Deep GAP, NC. Numerous great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren also hold her memories dear.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl Graybeal Farthing will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. George Miles. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from noon until 2 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to organizations and charities that work to benefit children.

6946 Pearl Junior Canter, 87, Gray, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Life Care Center of Gray, after a brief illness.
Pearl was born in Lee County, Virginia on January 4, 1927. He was the son of the late Robert and Carmen Treadway Canter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVada, two sons, Jerry and David and a granddaughter, Kimberly Canter.
He was of the Baptist faith. Pearl was the owner/operator of Speedway Paint and Body Shop for 29 years before retiring due to his health.
Pearl was a WWII, U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force veteran.
He is survived by one son, Edward Canter and wife Jeanne, Jonesborough; a sister, Pat Myers, Gray; a nephew, Don Canter and wife Pam, Gray; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Canter, Gray. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Shauna Kindle (Brandon), Elizabethton; Brooke Corey (Chris), Kingsport; Chris Canter (Sara), Gray; and Michelle Canter, Rolla, Missouri; and six great grandchildren: Jared Vermillion, Rylee Ray, Zoey Kindle, and Mary, Veda and Michael Canter.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses at Life Care Center of Gray for their excellent care of "Mr. PJ."
Graveside services will be held at Monte Vista Memorial Park, Johnson City at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Those wishing to attend may meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m.

6947 Pearl Marie Jones, age 101 of Mountain City, TN, Forge Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, June 12, 2022 at Mountain City Care Center. She was born on March 9, 1921 in Ashe County, NC to the late Wiley Potter and Hilda Dunn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Daniel Jones; son, Paul Jones; sisters, Carrie Mast, Edna Fletcher, and Ruth Dunn; and brothers, Glenn Johnson and Fred Dunn.

Pearl was a member of Hammons Chapel Church. She loved going to church and being with her family very much. She worked many years as a cook for the Johnson County School System. Pearl enjoyed gardening and especially loved to cook for her family. She also loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Rutherford; son, Ray Jones (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Lois Jones; grandchildren; Danny Jones (Malena), Michael Jones (Pam), Douglas Rutherford, Mark Rutherford, Sheila Miller (Brian), Cecelia Giantonio, and Billy Ray Jones (Faith); seven great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren and seven great-great-great grandchildren; and sister, Ethel Banks.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Josh Giddings officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow at the Dunn Cemetery (Forge Creek Rd.) Pallbearers will be Pearl’s great grandchildren.

6948 Pearl Mary Thomas left this earth for her heavenly home, Thursday, June 30, 2016.

Known as “Mother” to her family, she had an amazing and gifted talent for gardening, crocheting, and quilting. She lovingly hand quilted each of her grandchildren their own quilt which each of them treasure with all their hearts.

In the last years of her life she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like long walks and sitting on the front porch watching the birds she fed. She enjoyed these simple things with her best friend, Ms. Anna Dowell, who preceded her in death in April 2016. The family is most grateful for the love and friendship Anna shared with her.

She was born September 20, 1919 to the late Emit Eggers and Ada Maine Eggers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Thomas. She was a member of the Centerview Church of Christ.

Survivors include: One daughter, Marguerite Miller and husband Clyde and one son, Wade Thomas and wife Marcia all of Mountain City, Tennessee. She was blessed with several grandchildren: Penny and husband Todd Chappell, Banner Elk, NC, David and wife Shirlene Miller, Elizabethton, TN, Dawn and John Taylor, Watauga, TN. Nine great grandchildren: April Miller, Matthew Miller, Cory Miller, Katie Skiera, Kelly Studer, Dustin Osborne, Brad Osborne, Rachel Osborne and Isaac Carr; three great great-grandchildren: Peyton Osborne, Ezra Studer and Clara Miller. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation for Ms. Pearl Thomas will be Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Charles B. Hux Chapel from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. which will be at the Charles B. Hux Chapel, Hux-Lipford Funeral Home in Mountain City, and TN. with Rev. David Hankal officiating.

Graveside service will follow the funeral service at Sunset Memorial Park, Mountain City, TN. Active pallbearers are Joe Cornett, Bobby Eggers, Todd Chappell, Cory Miller, Luke Skiera, Brad Osborne, Dustin Osborne and Christian Studer. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Whitlock and Daniel Jones. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain City Care Center for their excellent and compassionate care.

6949 PEARL RIVER, LA - Larry C. Tester, a longtime resident of Pearl River, LA, passed away on August 18, 2021 at the age of 75. He was a native of Johnson City, TN, born on August 13, 1946 to his loving parents, the late Bert Tester and Madge McCurry Tester. Larry is the brother of Albert Tester of Palm Bay, FL. and Carolyn Huffine of Jonesborough TN. He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Dr. Sarah A. Tester who passed in Dec. 2020.

Larry graduated from East Tennessee State University where he received a B.S. degree in Mathematics. Upon graduation, Larry served in the United States Army. After his service to his country, he worked for four different companies across the country including several years with BCBS in Chattanooga, TN. Larry retired from Ochsner Health Care in New Orleans as their Chief Security Officer.

After retirement, Larry enjoyed his membership with the Slidell Coffee Club and its many members, editor of neighborhood newsletter and volunteer work with various groups and organizations. He attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell.

6950 Pearle Millsap Madgett, age 93, Elizabethton, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. She was a native of Washington County, VA and a daughter of the late John Walter and Lula Ward Millsap. Mrs. Madgett moved to Elizabethton in 1943. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Elizabethton. She was a homemaker and had worked as a licensed LPN.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Madgett was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bernard Madgett, Feb. 20, 1985, one son, Bill Madgett and three brothers, Earle, Clyde and Carl Millsap.
Survivors are three daughters and sons-in-law, Nanette and Dale Harmon, Richmond, VA, Charlene and Steve Williams, Fairfield Glades, TN, Patricia and Wade Carnley, Graham, NC, one son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Jean Madgett, Elizabethton, eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Alice Melvin, Bluff City and Ella Grace and James Carlyle, Bristol, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Madgett will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, March 5 in the Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Brent Seals officiating. Music will be under the direction of John Bunn.
The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6 in Weaver Cemetery, Bristol.
