6501 Mrs. Pearl Teague, 93, formerly of 116 W. Unaka Avenue, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in the Lakebridge Health Care Center.

She was a native of Beech Creek, NC.

Mrs. Teague was born June 25, 1919, to the late Sherman and Hattie Dyer Presnell. She joined the Union Baptist Church and at an early age was baptized. Mrs. Teague also attended other local churches in the area. She was the last leaf on her family tree.

She enjoyed flowers, traveling and walking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis C. Teague; a son, Richard Teague; four brothers, Ira, Raymond, Ernest and Lloyd Presnell; two sisters, Bertha Presnell and Pina Gilley.

Survivors include a son, Stacy A. Teague and his wife, Kathryn, of Lawrenceville, GA; a daughter-in-law, Shenny Teague, of Johnson City; grandchildren, Darrell Teague, Melinda Teague Pickett, both of Durham, NC, and Bryan Teague, of Johnson City; great-grandchildren, Haley and Mason Pickett, of Durham, NC; also several nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be conducted Friday, May 17, 2013, with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.

6502 Mrs. Perl Oliver Luttrell, 77, Rt. 8, Jonesboro, died in Memorial Hospital at 9:15 a.m. yesterday after a lingering illness.
She was a daughter of the late John S. and Martha Jane Hillard Oliver and was a member of the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son , Lawrence, Feb. 16.
Survivors include the husband, William; one daughter, Mrs. Gladys Young, Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother,, Fred Oliver, Telford; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Smith, Elizabethton, and Mrs. Mae Redman, Oxford, Miss.

6503 Mrs. Rebecca Bell STOUT, 89, died at her home in Big Stone Gap, Virginia at 1:30 pm Monday morning following a lingering illness.
She was born and spent her early life in Carter Co., Tennessee and had been a resident of Wise Co. for the last 20 years. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. C. T. GARRISON, Mrs. Ralph BUSHMAN, and Miss Kate STOUT, all of Big Stone, two sons, Robert STOUT of Appalachia and Green STOUT of Big Stone Gap, one brother, William HARDING of Elizabethton, 10 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren.

6504 Mrs. Rita Marilyn Smith, 88, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. She was a daughter of the late John Edward and Jeanne Marie LeSchairre Wild and was born in Ponchatoula, La. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Crawford Alexander Smith; a daughter, Sherry Bowling; three sisters, Orris Caldwell, Norma Goudeau and Yvonne Saltzman; one brother, John Wild.
Mrs. Smith was a devout Catholic and homemaker. She loved to garden and can vegetables and she also enjoyed quilting.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Crawford Alexander Smith, Jr. and his wife, Bobbi, Jacksonville, Florida, Edward Earl Smith and his wife, Susan, Elizabethton; Two daughters, Donna Marie Page and her husband, Harry, Elizabethton, Vickie Smith and a special friend, Carla Hardin, Elizabethton; seven grandchildren: Heather Tester, Kevin Bowling, Carrie Rogers, Tammy Arrwood, Brian Smith, LaDonna Page and Harry page; two step grandchildren Lisa Sutton and Christie Davis; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Rita Marilyn Smith will be conducted on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Steve Burleson, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday prior to the service.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Brian Smith, Kevin Bowling, Little Harry Page, Robert Pierce, Eric Tester, Buddy Bowers and Lee Long. 6505 Mrs. Roberta C. Lowe, age 79, Johnson City, passed away, Thursday, December 22, 2011, at her residence.

Mrs. Lowe was a native of Carter County who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Ed Crowe and Myrtle Robison Crowe.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Delmer W. Lowe; two sisters, JoAnn Crowe and Louise Hamby; one brother, Edward J. Crowe; one great grandson, Luke Smalling.

Mrs. Lowe was a homemaker and lifelong Christian. She was married to the love of her life for sixty-one years and was a caring and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family will always remember her for her kind and gentle spirit.

Survivors include: one son, George Lowe, of Johnson City; two daughters, Teresa Lowe Smalling and her husband, Thomas, of Johnson City, and Barbara Lowe Tucker and her husband, Jerry, of Gray; two sisters, Nannie Burton, of Johnson City, and Peggy McLemore and her husband, Terry, of Florida; five grandchildren, Duane Smalling, Scott Smalling and his wife, Carmen, Chasity Ferrando and her husband, Dennis, Wes Tucker and his wife, Jennifer, and Lindsey Jessen and her husband, Michael; eleven great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mrs. Roberta C. Lowe will be conducted at 8 PM Monday, December 26, 2011, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Brother Roy Tucker and Chaplain Victor Tucker will officiate. Organist Lynda Tucker and soloists Jennifer Tucker, Benny Lowe and Laura will provide music.

The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Duane Smalling, Scott Smalling, Zach Smalling, Wes Tucker, Dennis Ferrando and Michael Jessen. 6506 Mrs. Rosa F Rupard, 90, Rt 1, died Tuesday, Oct 18, 1988 at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Johnson County and a daughter of the late Mack and Sally Farris. Mrs. Rupard was A member of St. Johns United Methodist Church.

She -was preceded in death by her husband, John C Rupard in 1968 and by a daughter. Survivors include five daughters; Grace Rupard of the home, Earlene Campbell, Damascus, Va., Beulah Robinson, Mountain City, Margaret Lews, Bristol and Shirley Winters, Hickory, NC ; two sons, Herbert and Bobby D. Rupard, both of Laurel Bloomery; one brother, Walter Farris. Mountain City; two sisters, Mary Farris, Bristol and Laura Rash, Gainesville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

6508 Mrs. Rosanna Lee Estep Harney, 69, of Unicoi, Tenn., passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was a daughter of the late Lenard and Margaret Ann Estep, born to them on January 3, 1950 in Johnson City, Tenn. Rosanna was a Licensed Practical Nurse and greatly enjoyed reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnny Michael.
Rosanna is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Jack Harney; her children, Misty Dawn Fore (Jeffrey), Jackie Oakley, Kristina Cocklin (Lincoln), Heidi Harney, Heather Taylor (Billy) and Gabrielle Harney (Aaron); 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Martha Whaley, Roger Estep, Kathy Budenko and Clyde Estep. She is also survived by a host of many relatives and friends left behind to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rosanna Harney will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, October 4, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Rev. Jerry Honeycutt officiating. 6509 Mrs. Roxie Brummett Jones, 74, 22009 Bernard, Taylor, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at Harper Hospital.

Mrs. Jones was a Unicoi County, Tenn., native and a daughter of the late Hasco Brummett and Mary Tolley Brummett.

She had been employed in the Activities Department of Regency Health Care Center, Taylor, for the past 24 years.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Dearborn Heights.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Brummett and Kyle Ferrell; and one sister, Carolyn Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Jones; two sons, Mike Jones, Johnson City, Tenn., and Stephen Jones, Howell; two daughters, Sue Massucci and Julie Jones, both of Taylor; four brothers, Joe Ferrell, Johnson City, and Don Brummett, Gerald Brummett and Alan Brummett, all of Bowling Green, Fla.; two sisters, Patricia Thornhill, Fort Pierce, Fla., and Gail Ferrell, Elizabethton, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Roxie Brummett Jones, age 74, 22009 Bernard, Taylor, Mich., who went to be with the Lord on Friday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The Rev. Eugene Penland will officiate. Burial will follow committal services at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Monte Vista Burial Park. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

6510 Mrs. Ruth Farthing Bunton, 85, of Elk Park, widow of Mr. Clyde Bunton, died Monday afternoon, November 6, 1995 at Life Care Center in Banner Elk.

She was born December 4, 1909 in the Green Valley community of Watauga County, a daughter of the late Joe and Ida Harmon Farthing. She was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, one brother and one sister. She is also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Services were Wednesday afternoon at Mount Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev Jerry McCory and the Rev Arnt Greer officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Gilead Church cemetery

6511 Mrs. Sarah Ann Guy, 84, formerly of Hampton, Tenn., went to be with her Lord for Christmas on Sunday, December 24, 2006, at the Life Care Center in Elizabethton following an extended illness. Mrs. Guy was a native of Avery County, N.C., and was a daughter of the late Lee and Martha Henson Norris. She was a Homemaker and loved the Lord, her family, growing flowers, rainbows and animals. She was a member of the Flat Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Potter, and her second husband, Albert Jack Guy, on October 4, 1993, and by two sons, Arnold Potter and Clifford Guy. Survivors include three daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary and David Roark, Denella and Robert Gwin, all of Hampton; and Evelyn and Dean Estep of Elk Park, N.C.; two sons, Charles Guy and Gene Potter, both of Butler; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Guy will be conducted at 1:00 PM. on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Williams and Pastor Jeff Davis officiating. Mrs. Sarah E. Scalf, 82, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. M. Large, 319 Broad Street, Saturday at 10:20 a.m. after a short illness.
Mrs. Scalf was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Large, Miss Donna Scalf, Mrs. M. R. Roger of Elizabethton and Mrs. James L. Gregg of Johnson City; 21 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 4:00 o'clock from the First Christian Church wit the Rev. Fred Smith in charge, assisted by the Rev. Dampler and the Rev. E. A. Hoffman.
Music will be under the direction of Mrs. N. T. Williams and Mrs. Raymond Huskins.
Burial will be made in Highland Cemetery.
The body was returned to the home of Mrs. Large Saturday afternoon.
Active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
Flower bearers will be the Priscilla Circle of the First Christian Church and Mrs. T. J. Mims, Mrs. C. E. Smith, Mrs. Minnie Smith and Mrs. Estep.

6513 Mrs. Selma Virgie Rainbolt, 81, of Rt. 2, Butler, died at the residence Tuesday morning following an extended illness. The widow of the late Julius Grant Rainbolt, she was a native of Carter County and a member of the Little Milligan Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, J.G. Rainbolt, Jr. of Rt. 2 Butler; three daughters, Mrs. Viola Whaley, Mrs. Bertha Whaley and Mrs. Retha Whaley, all of Rt. 2. Butler; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Funeral services for Mrs. Selma Virgie Rainbolt will be conducted from the Little Milligan Baptist Church at 2 pm Friday with Rev. John Farrell and Rev. Clawson Snodgrass officiating. Music by the Church Choir. 6514 Mrs. Shirley Loggins, 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Charles and Gladys Morrison and was born in Johnson County, TN.

Shirley was a dedicated army wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid Lady Vols and NASCAR fan. She also enjoyed following politics and attending rallies for her favorite candidates.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jere Loggins and his wife, Roxanne, Columbia, SC; two grandsons, Blake Loggins and Grant Loggins, Columbia, SC; two sisters, Carolyn Matthews and her husband, Michael, Elizabethton; Sue Smith and her husband, Dick, Elizabethton; three brothers, Paul Morrison and his wife, Phyllis, Mountain City; John Morrison, Elizabethton; and Frank Morrison and his wife, Charlene, Boone, NC; her former husband, Jerrell Loggins; and her nieces and nephews, Josh Smith, Joe Smith, Missy Stines, Summer Connely and Chris Morrison.

A committal and entombment service for Mrs. Loggins will be conducted on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Jack Hamilton officiating.

6515 Mrs. Stella Mae Church, 75, 1210 Valley Street, Elizabethton, died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Church was a native of Beech Mountain, N.C., and a daughter of the late Linzy "Pop" and Sarah Hartley Trivett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Erwin L. Church, February 17, 1997, four brothers, Vance, Ray, Lem and Willie Trivett, and two sisters, Hazel and Fannie Trivett
Mrs. Church had lived a number of years in Elizabethton. She was a member of Beech Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Vanessa Johnson, Clearmont, Fla.; four sons, Bob R. Church, Nashville, Vance Church, Gary Church and Lester Church, all of Elizabethton; and a sister, Mrs. Edna Harmon, Elizabethton. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Estep was a member of the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors are one son, George H. Estep; one stepson, James D. Estep of Route 5, Elizabethton; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Lilly Smith, Lenmore, California; one brother, Wilburn Grindstaff, Route 5, Elizabethton; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Edd Burnett, Rev. James Brooks and Rev. J. J. Richardson officiating. 6517 Mrs. Susie Bowers Anderson, 99, of 810 North Roan Street, Elizabethton, formerly of the Blue Springs Community, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Lawson and Mary Williams Bowers and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alf Anderson; a son, Dallas Anderson and a daughter, Doris Grindstaff. Mrs. Anderson was the oldest member of the Blue Springs Christian Church. She loved to work in her garden and she enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by a daughter Mary Anderson; a son, Carl Anderson, both of Elizabethton; three grandsons, Albert Grindstaff, MO; Gerald Grindstaff and Larry Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Anderson will be conducted on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 7:30 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Mr. Richard Thomason, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jill Kemp.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 -7:30 PM on Thursday, or at the home, 810 North Roan Street, at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. An Avery County, N.C., native, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Emma McGuire Cook. She had lived in Elizabethton since 1948. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lewis, in 1980, and by four brothers and three sisters.
She was the oldest member of East Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Robina Bowman Hall and Robert Hall, Elizabethton, a son and daughter-in-law, Deward Richard and Paralee Lewis, Canton, Ohio, one brother, Jesse Church, Heaton, N.C., 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and three special friends, Ruth Franklin, Ruth White and Goldie Scott.

6520 Mrs. Texie Johnson, age 94, of Roan Mountain, TN, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at the Waters of Roan Highlands. She was the daughter of the late Mark and Mary Pippins Winters. Texie was the owner of Johnson Antiques in Roan Mountain, TN, where she had worked for many years. She enjoyed talking to people and loved her pets, going to auctions and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Omer "Wilt" Johnson; a daughter, Frankie Woodby; two grandsons, Timmy Woodby and Paul Hathaway; a special granddaughter, Sherry Hathaway Babb and three brothers, Dave Winters, Munrow Winters and Earnest Winters. Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Robin McKinney and Margaret Whitehead and husband Arnold, both of Roan Mountain and Grace Wagner, Hampton; two sons, Jerry Johnson, Elizabethton and Wilson Junior Johnson, Hampton; eleven grandchildren, Melissa Doyle, Teresa Simerly, Michael Woodby, Dusty Woodby, Wesley Woodby, Randy Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Carrie Johnson, Christy Johnson, Tammie Chrisawn and Travis McKinney. Fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Texie Johnson will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Monday, December 23, 2019, in the Johnson Roanview Cemetery with Pastor Jeff McKinney officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

6521 Mrs. Thelma Pate Smith, age 88, went to her heavenly home on January 5, 2023.

Thelma was born on May 5, 1934, to the late Letha & Hobert Pate.

She graduated from Science Hill High School and attended East Tennessee State University.

She was a member of Harvest Time Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Floyd Smith, sisters; Dorothy Robertson, Hazel Jolley Jackson, & Glessie Church; brother, Rev. Arnold (Bud) Pate; nieces, Linda Wilson, Brenda Church, & Genevieve Robertson.

She is survived by nieces, Peggy Blackwell, Cindy Harris, Dr. Elain Pugh, & Debbie Oliver; nephews, Rev. Steve Pate & Ralph Church.

A special thank you to her very devoted nephew-in-law, William Bill Wilson, who ran errands for her, took her to her Saturday beauty shop appointments and went by almost every day. Her awesome neighbor Wilma, who brought her hot meals and was always there for her.

Thank you also to the staff of Lakebridge Rehab & Nursing home for all their help.

A private celebration of her life will be held later with her close family members and friends.

A native of Carter County she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Kress Ensor. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and she was a member of Dungan's Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Clark Davis; a brother, Ivan Ensor; a sister, Moilee Lewis and a half-brother, Ebbie Kress. 6524 Mrs. Velva Edwards Ramsey, age 88 of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 8, 1927 in Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Braskie and Lula Elizabeth Tolly Edwards. Velva was a faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and was known and loved for her tremendous faith. She had an immeasurable impact on her entire family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Ramsey, a brother, Ray Edwards and a grandson, Anthony Yates.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are children, Johnny Yates (Phoebe) of Johnson City, TN, Mike Ramsey, Linda Parker (Leonard), Diane Ray (Jack), Benny Ramsey (Carol) and Terry Ramsey (Kathy), all of Marion; siblings, Lora Adkins (Raymond), S.J. Edwards (Edith), both of Marion, Estell Edwards (Charlotte) of Alta Pass, Coy Edwards (Joyce), Harmon Edwards (Jean) and Floyd Edwards (Cora), all of Erwin, TN. 6525 Mrs. Vergie Leona "Granny" Taylor, age 98, five days short of her 99th birthday, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, with her children by her side, on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

She was born at home in the Simerly Creek community of Carter County and was a daughter of the late Celia Willis. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, William W. "Bill" Taylor, Sr. in November of 2000 and a brother.

Mrs. Taylor was a lifelong resident of Carter County. She was a former employee of Bemberg Corporation, and after her retirement from there, she worked at T.A. Dugger Junior High School where she was affectionately known as "Granny" to the students, teachers, and other staff members. She was a devoted member, as well as the oldest active member, of the Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene and continued to attend until her health failed, only during the last several weeks of her life. Granny loved to read her Bible and started every day at the breakfast table with her Bible open in front of her. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who took delight in her family. She will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son William W. "Woody" Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Carol Ann, of Columbia, SC; a daughter, Teresa Hopson and her husband, Sam, of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Capt. Michael E. Taylor, (USN), and his wife, Laura; Julie Eadie and her husband, Earle; Tom Hopson, Janey Taylor, Chrissy Hopson; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Eadie, Christopher Eadie, Samantha Eadie, and Delaney Hopson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Taylor will be conducted on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Kenley Knight and Rev. Raymond W. Amos, Sr., officiating. Music will be under the direction of Julie Eadie and David Arney. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service, or at the home of her daughter, Teresa, at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on her birthday, Wednesday, February 28, at 10:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Hopson, Capt. Michael E. Taylor, Earle Eadie, Christopher Eadie, Mike Roberts and her cousin, Clarence Willis. Mrs. Simerly was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Taylor and Mary Street. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Simerly was a homemaker and was of the Non-Denominational Faith. Survivors include her husband, Omar F. She was the daughter of the late James and Reta Grindstaff Cable. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford Peters, on May 19, 2006; one brother, Clifford Cable; one sister, Anna Mae Cable; one granddaughter, Carol Ann Harding Dean; and one niece, Thelma Forbes Frazier.

Mrs. Peters loved to quilt, working in her flowers, and was an avid reader.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Peters and wife, Ruth, NC, Dallas Peters, of the home; two daughters and a son in law, Charlotte Harding and husband, Bobby, and Marketta Peters, both of Elizabethton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Annis "Bea" Forbes and Iona "Lid" Peters, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The graveside service for Mrs. Peters will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Grindstaff Cemetery, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ray Colbaugh officiating.

She was a lov-ing wife, moma, ma-maw, sis-ter, aunt and friend. A won-der-ful cook, gar-dener and seam-stress, she al-ways found the good in ev-ery-one and ev-ery-thing.

Mrs. Campbell was a Cocke County native and had Alived in Johnson City for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Ulyses and Ada (Ida) Ottinger.

Mrs. Campbell retired from the Johnson City Memorial Hospital.

She was a Christian.

Mrs Campbell was preceded in death by her husband Walter E. H. Campbell, in 1995; two stepsons,Billy J. Campbell and Roy Lee Campbell;and several brothers and sisters.

Viola was of the Holiness faith for many years and attended Apostolic Holiness Church.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Coy C. Cable, in 1982, and by a brother and six sisters.

Mrs. Cable was a member of New Testament Baptist Church and the Elizabethton Senior Citizens. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a brother, Clay Henson, Hickory, N.C., and a sister, Bernice Hartley, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

6535 Mrs. Virginia Dare Ackerlund, 90, of Missoula, Montana, passed away quietly at the Village Health Care Center on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005.
She was born March 17, 1915 in Valle Crucis, N.C., the daughter of W. J. Baird and Addie Baird.
During World War II she worked at a defense factory in Bilozi, Miss., where she met and married her husband Kenneth Ackerlund in 1946.
Shortly after marriage, they moved to Kenneth's hometown of Missoula. Both were avid outdoors people who loved to hunt and fish together. They spent lots of weekends and vacations at Georgetown Lake in a cabin that they converted from an old hotel.
Kenneth worked for the railroad and Virginia worked at the University of Montana for many years in the printing department. After they retired, they built a beautiful home on Rock Creek, where they enjoyed nature and Virginia had beautiful flower gardens. She also enjoyed crafts and loved to weave pine needles baskets.
Survivors include a son, Charles Ackerlund pf Missoula; one grandchild, Jamie Ackerlund of Missoula; one brother, Fred Louis Baird of Hillsboro, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; two brothers, Ralph J. Baird and Junius R. Barid; and four sisters, Olive Baird, Elizabeth Townsend, Cordelia Hyatt and Doris Tester.
Viewing will be noon-3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Garden City Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. followed by a reception in the funeral homer's community room. She will be buried next to her husband at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

6536 Mrs. Virginia Darrell Angel Depew, 93, Hamptonville, N.C., formerly of Elizabethton, joined her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 9, 2022. She was born August 27, 1928 in Carter County, Tenn., to Homer Angel and Ada Roberson Johnson.
Virginia was a member of East Side Freewill Baptist Church. She adored her cats and loved flowers. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and her grandchildren were blessed to have her as their “Meme.”
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Lynne Depew, and a half sister, Helen Smith.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Elaine) Ferguson; grandchildren, Twila (Will) Bryant and April Hutchens; great-grandchildren, Austin (Kaylee) Hutchens, Hunter Butcher and Macie Hutchens (Dakota Casstevens); and a great-great-granddaughter, Abby Hutchens.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Justin Deaton officiating.

6538 Mrs. Wanda Stout Arnold, 84, 436 Pine Orchard Road, Butler died Monday, October 30, 2006 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Smith Stout. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Arnold was a member of the Little Doe Baptist Church and the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stansell Arnold, April 3, 1999 and by five Sisters and One Brother.

Survivors include Three Daughters: Shirley Wright Pierce and her husband Sonny Pierce, Elizabethton, Maxine Corum, Mountain City and Brenda Reece and her husband, Roland Reece, Hampton. Two Sons & Daughters-In-Law: Ross and Carolyn Arnold, Mountain City and Roy & Mary Arnold, Butler, Six Grandchildren, Three Great Grandchildren, Several Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Her Grandson Rev. Eric Wright officiating assisted by Rev. Kreg Smith. Interment will follow in the Ensor Cemetery. Music will be provided by Dale Williams, Soloist. 6539 Mrs. Willa Mae Bellamy, age 77, of Johnson City, passed away, October 22, 2013.
She was born in Cranberry, North Carolina and had been a resident of Johnson City since 1974. She was the daughter of the late George C. and Mamie Tolley Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 55 years, Everett "Tom" Bellamy; three brothers, Donald Thompson, Emil Thompson and James Thompson; three sisters, Gladys Thompson, Minnias Pritchard, and Sandra Trent; and one grandson, Michael Craig Bellamy.
After her retirement from Walmart, Willa enjoyed leisure time with family and traveling. Mrs. Bellamy was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Elizabethton, TN.
Survivors include two sons, Mike, and wife Debbie, of Clewiston, FL and Dave, and wife Lizz, of Johnson City, TN; three granddaughters, Stacy Bellamy, Rachel Bellamy Alonso, and husband Christian, and Andrea Bellamy; two sisters, Margie Boyd and Gail Christian; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, October 31, 2013 in the Morris Baker Funeral Home South Chapel with funeral services to follow. Pastors Tim Boyd and Nathan Jennings will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Washington County Memory Gardens. 6540 Mrs. Williams was a Unicoi County native but lived in Maryland for 48 years before moving to Swannanoa, in 1997. She was a daughter of the late Walter and Linnie Shelton Corn.

She retired from Bendix Radio Division in Maryland after 27 years of service.

Mrs. Williams was of the Baptist Faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Golden Williams: two daughters, Faye Fender and Mae Oliver: and one sister Virgie Boone.

Survivors include: two sons, Earl Williams and Roger Williams, both of Baltimore: two daughters, Gale Hansen, Balitmore, and Midge Roper, Swannanoa, NC: four brother: Thomas "Mutt" Corn and Smith Hoyle, both of Flag Pond, Harry Corn, Erwin and Hartsell Hoyle, Greeneville: one sister Verta Haynes, Flag Pond: 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

6541 Mrs. Wilma Rhea Collins Kitzmiller, age 94, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a resident at Hillview Nursing Home in Elizabethton, TN, but formerly resided in Johnson City, TN.

Born on April 26, 1929, Wilma was the fourth of eleven children of John N. and Myrtle Range Collins.

Mrs. Kitzmiller was born and raised in Carter County, Tennessee, in the Oak Grove/Powder Branch community. She was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Christian Church. Wilma was a 1947 graduate of Happy Valley High School, and in 1950, she received a B.A. in Business Education from Steed College of Technology, Elizabethton. She retired from the Carter County School System where she devoted her entire career to teaching Business Education at Happy Valley High School from 1950-1985.

Wilma enjoyed reading, gardening, and watching Atlanta Braves baseball.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kitzmiller was preceded in death by ten siblings, and by her husband William M. Kitzmiller.

Wilma is survived by her only daughter, Karen Kitzmiller Norman and husband Mark of Johnson City; grandsons Andrew Norman and wife Jennica; Eric Norman and wife Jessi, all of Johnson City. In addition, Mrs. Kitzmiller is survived by six great-grandchildren: Mallory, Judah, Elias, Gabriel, Greer, and Maren Norman, all of Johnson City. Also remaining to cherish her memory is a special niece, Brenda Collins Kyte. Several other nieces, nephews, and cousins survive.

A service to honor the life and memory of Wilma Kitzmiller will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home, Elizabethton, Tennessee, with Dr. Ted Thomas and Andrew Norman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00-12:30 with the funeral beginning at 12:30. Interment will take place at Monte Vista Cemetery, 1900 E. Oakland Ave., Johnson City, at 2:00 on May 17.

6542 Mrs. Winona Joy Luzier Grindstaff, 87, Butler passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at her residence.

A native of Petersburg, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William Earl and Della Mae Borror Luzier. She had been a resident of Butler since 1946, moving there from Baltimore, Maryland.

She was a retired Nurse with the Johnson County School System, where she worked from 1972-1987. She was an active member of the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church, taught the Adult Women's Sunday School Class, assisted with Vacation Bible School for many years and was in the Church Choir. Mrs. Grindstaff was a member of the Butler Chapter #218, Order of Eastern Star and served as the Past Worthy Matron and Grand Representative of the Order of the Eastern Star of Tennessee in previous years.

She was a former board member of the Carterview Utility Board and was associated with the Retired Teachers Association.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband: Coolidge L. Grindstaff, June 29, 1993; by a son: Joe Grindstaff, October 10, 2001; by two brothers: James Henry Luzier and William Courtney Luzier; and two sisters: Betty Lou Stoltz and Beatrice Lorraine Kincaid.

Survivors include a son: Rick Grindstaff, Leicester, North Carolina; a daughter-in-law: Rebecca Grindstaff, Johnson City; A Granddaughter: Leah Grindstaff Daily and her husband, Jay Daily, Leesburg, Virginia; A Grandson: Nick Grindstaff and his wife, Danielle Grindstaff, Limestone; Sisters: Gloria Williams, of Alabama, Patricia Riechert and Sibby Cafeo, both of Pennsylvania; A Brother: Harmon Luzier, of Maryland; Great Grandsons: Daniel Grindstaff, Dylan Grindstaff and Henry Daily; Several Nieces & Nephews, friends and neighbors of Johnson and Carter Counties.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Simcox officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Butler Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Alan Koch officiating.

6544 Mrs. Yvonne James Deloach, age 86, died suddenly Wednesday morning at the Satilla Regional Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Blackshear.

She was preceded in death by her husband W.T. Deloach, her parents Cleveland James and Rena Bennett James Henderson, a daughter Mary Ellen "Dee" Clauss, son Wayne Deloach and a daughter-in-law Christina Deloach.

Mrs. DeLoach retired as Dep. Clerk of Court in Pierce County where her husband served as Clerk of Superior Court. She had also worked many years at Gilmores Dept. Store as a Sales Lady and as Secretary for the Pierce County Stock Yard.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she was in the Alethean Sunday School Class, the Joy Group and Joy Choir. She was a member of the Sr. Citizens of Pierce County Quilting Club, was active in Water Aerobics at the YMCA, and formerly volunteered at the Pierce County Nursing Home.

She is survived by her daughter Glynda Brinson Gausnell husband Jack of Carbondale, Colorado, 2 sons Evan Deloach wife Ginger and Winkie Deloach wife Beverly all of Blackshear, 9 grandchildren Kip Clauss wife Jade of Forest Hills, N.Y., Michael Brinson wife Monica of Carbondale, Colorado, Steve Brinson wife Elizabeth of New Orleans, Louisiana, Jeff Deloach of Brandon, Fl., Jennifer Lamotte husband Todd of Monroe, Ga., David Deloach wife Cindy of Rocky Mount, N.C., Karen Battle husband Jim of Wake Forest, NC, Ryan Deloach wife Jennifer of Holly Springs, NC, and Adam Deloach wife Audrey of Blackshear, 20 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Stella Maude Davis Owens and Darcil Henderson Davis both of Blackshear, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

6545 Mrs. Zella R. DeVault, 99, Gray, went to be with Jesus on Monday, April 18, 2005, at NHC Healthcare Center (where she was a resident). She was the daughter of the late A.J. Isenberg Sr. and Lou Hawk Isenberg. She was a lifelong resident of the Gray Community. Mrs. DeVault attended Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Namoi Church School Class. She was a homemaker and in her early years taught school. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde A. DeVault, a sister, Kate Hodge, a brother, A.J. Isenberg Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Salts and Sally Hicks of Gray; A son and wife, Clyde and Barbara DeVault of Gray; Six grandsons, Danny and Phil Sells, Shannon Salts, Tim Hicks, Kenneth & Gerald DeVault; Two granddaughters, Luanna Wheelock and Alisa Rogers; eight great-granddaughters and eleven great-grandsons; and five great-great-grandchildren. Surviving are the husband, Herman Shook; three sons, Leo Prather of Phoenix, Ariz., Lacy Prather and Tommy Shook of Newland; an adopted son, Carrol Stamey of Newland; three brothers, Dellie, Thurman, and Robert Carpenter of Newland; two sisters, Mrs. Tempie Ingram and Mrs. Harold Benfield of Newland; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Big Meadows Baptist Church. The Revs. James Barrier and Carson Eggers officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Nephews of the deceased were pallbearers.

went to rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.

Mrs. Mosley was a native of Bakersville,Mitchell County,North Carolina & had lived in Erwin,TN for the last 8 years.

She was a daughter of the late John Henry and Hattie Greene Yelton & was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Bakersville, NC.
Martha loved her church family very much and was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She was a loving mother,grandmother,aunt,great-aunt and sister who loved everyone she met.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr.Jess Mosley, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Sue and Mr.Ronnie Webb of Erwin; grandson, Scotty Penix of Kingsport, TN; granddaughter Dr. Melessia Webb and her husband Shane Gouge of Elizabethton, TN. Twin sister, Mary Yelton of Bakersville, NC; a brother, Vestal Yelton of Sykesville, MD,a very special niece, Maxie Yelton of Bakersville, NC, along with her best friend Margorie Hilemon of Bakersville,NC and other relatives.

A celebration of life will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Valley Funeral Home with Dr. Allan King, Pastor David Foster and Pastor Todd McLaughlin officiating. Music will be provided by The Landmarks Quartet with Charlotte McCurry and Ron Fender.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00pm until service time. A committal service and interment will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:00am at the Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum. 6548 Ms. Bernice Holtsclaw Cable, age 96 of Marion, passed away peacefully at Autumn Care of Marion during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 07, 2019. A native of Elizabethton, Tennessee, she was born on June 21, 1923 to the late John and Zealie Holtsclaw.

A member of Grandview Baptist Church, Bernice was known to have a love of crocheting, fishing, and traveling. Her family describes her as having been a wonderful cook. Bernice loved her family and especially her canine companion, Kenny. She will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Kenneth Cable.

Left to cherish her memory are a special niece, Gloria Whitehead; five siblings, Dimple Holtsclaw, Effie Holtsclaw Whitehead, Cline Holtsclaw, Reese Holtsclaw and William Holtsclaw; one sister-in-law, Mary Morefield (Bill); and her four brothers-in-law, Alan Fincher (Melodi), Everette Cable (Genevia), Gerald Cable (Helga), Eddie Cable (Jenny) and Donald Cable (Faye). She was the daughter of the late Henry William and Callie Deloach Chambers and was born in Elizabethton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Ms. Chambers was a member of Sims Hill Christian Church and a retired waitress from Tasty Freeze. Ms. Chambers is survived by a sister, Ruby Glover, Bristol, Va.; two nieces, Vickie Chambers and Louanne Chambers, both of Elizabethton; and five nephews, Terry Chambers, Fred Chambers, Elizabethton, Johnny Chambers, Houston, Texas, Ed Glover and Larry Glover, both of Bristol, Va. A grand-niece, Brandi Glover, Abingdon, Va., also survives. A Celebration of Life service to honor Dorothy Chambers will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Ed Glover, minister, and Rev. 6550 Ms. Gloria Smoak Haynie, 69, of Red Bank Road, Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday morning, October 31, 2015, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, November 4, 2015, from the graveside at Pleasant Grove Baptist Churchyard, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro.

Born July 27, 1946, in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Furman Marion Smoak and the late Anna DeLoach Smoak. She was a graduate of Palmer Business College and was a retired bookkeeper from Rhodes Oil Company in Walterboro where she worked faithfully for many years. Following her retirement, she worked as a data processor for Jackson Hughes, Albert Lucas, and Thurston Hiers at Self-Serve, Inc. She was raised in the family church, Canaan Baptist Church at Canadys. Gloria was truly a lady of style, taste, and love. She loved her family and others dearly, and had a great passion for animals. Her love for animals provided for many over the years a rescue and loving home and a life that they may not have otherwise known. She also had a special passion with taking care of the family farm.

Surviving are: three sisters, Susan Smoak Gourley of Morristown, Tennessee, Cynthia Smoak Williams of Concord, North Carolina, and Janet Smoak Jordan of Jacksonville, Florida; an uncle, The Honorable Gerald Smoak. She is also survived by a niece, Lara O'Shields; and three nephews, Russell Williams, Charlton Williams, and Christopher Jordan; as well as a host of loving cousins.
