6251 Mr. James Larry Sheets,71, of Hickory, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Frye Regional Medical Center, following a period of declining health.

James was born on December 12, 1947 in Carter County, TN to the late Fred Thomas Sheets and Mary Evelyn Heaton Sheets. He was a member of Refuge Baptist Church in Hickory, and was retired from Spectrum Dyed Yarns, where he had worked for over 45 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Stanton Sheets, four brothers, Ben, Jack and Jess Sheets, and John D. Blevins, two sisters, Maude Riley and Martha Propst, and extended family Scott E. Bolin.

Surviving are his three children, Angel Crawley and husband Kevin of Nebo, Martha "Sissy" Mitschke and husband Robert of Connelly Springs, and Freddie Sheets of the home. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; James Ashe and wife Leah, Timothy Ashe and wife Chelsey, Ashley Traxler, Joseph Henson and wife Brandi, Natalie Henson, Isaiah Sheets and Hannah Sheets, three great-grandchildren; Emma Ashe, Ryder Lee Byrd and Mason Traxler and extended family April Bolin, Andy Price, Raby Coleman and numerous nieces and nephews.

6252 Mr. James Thomas 'Tom' Shull, age 74, passed away peaceably at his home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 following 6 years of being confined to the home with various health issues.

He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was a member. He was a charter member of Neva Ruritan Club and Neva Fire Department, where he was past Chief.

Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother, Earl and Louise Shull, brother, Terry Shull, sister and her husband, Linda and Junior Brown.

Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith Eggers Shull, son, Jim Shull, two sisters, Pat Eller and husband Edgar Eller and Barbara Simcox, sister-in-law, Betty Shull, a number of nieces and nephews, special friends, Skip Wills, Bill Wilson and the Men's Sunday School Class of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, who brought Sunday School to him for the past three years.

It was Mr. Shull's request to be cremated and his ashes scattered on the family farm. There will be no formal services.

6253 Mr. Jerry Altman, age 65, Jonesborough, loving husband and father passed away at home on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Altman was born in Johnson City and son of the late Thomas & Earline Adams Altman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shelby Jean Deloach and brother, Howard Keith Altman.
He was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He had the amazing ability to live, love and bring people together. He loved the Lord and prayed for his family and friends every night.
Mr. Altman loved to play baseball and football. He could throw knuckleballs all day long. He coached baseball and football teams in the Sulphur Springs community. He enjoyed camping, hunting and skeet shooting. He shot a perfect round of 25 on his last round of skeet with a 28 gauge.
He worked at North American Rayon, after the plant closed; he attended Northeast State and then worked at Electrolux.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Patty Deakins Altman, Jonesborough; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith & Pam Altman, Mark & Susie Altman and Jason & Karen Altman; grandchildren, LeAnne, Cody, Tanner and Lelia Altman; step-grandchildren, Cassie, Courtney, Joni Million; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom & Becky Altman, Johnson City, Kenneth & Peggy Altman, Little Mt. SC, and Glen & Mary Altman, Sulphur Springs; and special friends, Clarence Greene and Deril Dixon.
"We will miss his smile and his love but rejoice he is in the kingdom of Heaven."
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jeff Farrow and MSHA Hospice for their wonderful care.
A Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Reed and Rev. Robert English officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service and other times at the home.
Interment services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stanley Shell, Tommy Woods, Mike Seal, Mike McNees, Shawn Chandler and Dustin Chandler.

6254 Mr. Jesse Church of the Heaton Community passed away on May 5, 2007. A native of Avery County, he was the son of Sid and Emma McGuire Church. He was a member of the Heaton Christian Church and retired from the US Forest Service. He served in World War II as a member of the United States Army. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary M. Franklin Church;his brothers, Ervin, Roby and Searle; and sisters Doll Hobler and Sylvia Lewis. 6255 Mr. Jimmie Dale "Paw Jim" Mann, 74, 222 Little Stoney Creek Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. Now he is cruising on the streets of gold!


Mr. Mann was the son of the late Dayton James and Winnie Arnett Mann and was a native of Carter County. He was a member of the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church and an honorary member of Fountain of Life Bible Church. He was retired from Great Lakes Research as a welder and had also retired from American Bemberg. He was also a member of the Carter County Car Club.


Mr. Mann is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Janette Bowers Mann of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Teresa Treadway, Elizabethton; Lisa and Dan Germaine, Elizabethton; Carolyn and Dennis Ledford, Jr. Piney Flats; eight grandchildren, Brandon Treadway, Brian Treadway, Kent Germaine, United States Air Force and his wife Kim; Spc. Kyle Germaine, United States Army, and his wife, Heather, Kurt Germaine, Neil Ledford, Allison Ledford and Jared Ledford; two great-grandchildren, Yasmin Treadway and Savion Lytton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Joyce Mann, Elizabethton; Jerry and Velma Mann, Church Hill and a special sweetheart, Sandra K. Cederborg, Baltimore, MD. Several nieces and nephews also survive.


The funeral service for Mr. Mann will be conducted on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, Elizabethton with Dr. Vic Young and Mr. Gerald Holly officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sue Bowers and Dan Germaine. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday prior to the service and at the residence at other times.


The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Gerald Holly, officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and Wayne Cagle. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Arnett, Dr. Jeff Farrow, Dr. Jason Hatjioannou, Dr. Louis Collier Jordan, members of the Carter County Car Club and J.D. Anderson. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the charity of their choice.

6256 Mr. Jimmy Dale Lipford, 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2015 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Lipford was born in Butler, TN on October 27, 1934. He lived most of his life in Carter County. Most will remember his ownership of several service stations and his many friends associated with drag racing and participation in Rod Runs. He and his brother Howard built most of the homes in Crowe Bottom in the Valley Forge Community. He loved the Tennessee Vols and spending time with his grandchildren. He attended First Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents (Oscar and Lucy Matherly Lipford), he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, (Patricia Rose Lipford), and his brothers, (Howard and Ray).

Survivors include his daughters, Lisa Pilkington (and husband, John) and Stephanie Nave (and her husband, Kenneth), and his sister, Charlotte Williams, a niece, (Betty Jo Greene), and his grandchildren, who were the loves of his life, (Matt and Conner Nave). Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

A visitation period will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. A service to honor the life of Mr. Lipford will be conducted at 7:00 PM following the visitation on Tuesday. Rev. Nathan Jennings and Rev. Jack Lloyd will officiate and music will be provided by Grady and Alicia Holder.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. 6258 Mr. John Frank Parlier, age 87, of Elizabethton, TN, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in the Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.

A native of Heaton, NC, he had resided in Carter County since 1938 and was the son of the late Clay H. and Elsie Smith Parlier. Mr. Parlier retired as a machine operator with T.P.I. He was an active member of Borderview Christian Church. Mr. Parlier was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor G. Reynolds Parlier; and a sister, Effie Mae Pierce. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service for Mr. John Frank Parlier will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 12, 2013, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Kirk Langston, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Scott Reynolds.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the funeral service.

Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be R.C. Bennett, Ken Taylor, Terry Barnett, Lawrence Ritchie, Pen Hampton and Charles Hilton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class at Borderview Christian Church.

6259 Mr. John M. Harrison, age 87, of 13611 Rockridge Road, Lakeland, Florida, a native and former resident of Blowing Rock, the Boone Fork community, died Sunday February 18, 2007.

Mr. Harrison was born March 3, 1919 in Watauga County a son of the late James Monroe and Minnie Bristol Harrison.

He owned and operated a sawmill and was also a rock mason. He was a member of Boone Fork Baptist Church.

Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Verla Norman Harrison of the home, three daughters; Bertha Mae Reece of Patterson, Beulah Howell and husband, Gene of Boone, Georgia Pearson and husband Bill of Blowing Rock, five sons; Donald Harrison and wife Sue, Scott Harrison and wife Judy, and David Harrison all of Blowing Rock, James Harrison and wife Barbara of Boone and Billy Harrison and wife Shirley of Lakeland, Florida. He is also survived by twenty nine grandchildren, fourty great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Monroe and Minnie Bristol Harrison, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, three sisters; Annie Harrison, Ester Harrison and Bertha Anderson, five brothers; Frank, Horace, Spencer, Ballard, Edd, and Paul Harrison.

Burial will follow in the Boone Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

6260 Mr. John Marshall Rice, age 89 of Rome, GA, died Thursday, February 7, 2013 in a local hospital.

Mr. Rice was born in Fulton County, KY on February 13, 1923, the son of the late Wilson Bacon Rice and Kate Anna Brown Rice. Mr. Rice proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Atlantic Theatre of Operation as a medic. Prior to his retirement Mr. Rice was employed at Celanese, Electrolux and as a parking security guard at Floyd Medical Center. He is a member of Dykes Creek Baptist Church and the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. Mr. Rice was an avid vegetable gardener and loved to share with his neighbors. In addition to his parents Mr. Rice was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Bucy and Elaine Prather.

Survivors include his wife Frances Taylor Rice; sons and daughters-in-law, John Marshall Rice, Jr. and Amy and Mark A. Rice and Robin; grandchildren, John Marshall Rice, III, Jessica Anne Burnham and Hannah Rice; great-grandchildren, Ayla Girardia and Aiden Michael Rice and a sister, Kathryn Curry of Union City, TN.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Dykes Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mikel Garrett officiating. Interment to follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the Honor Guard of Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of the military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends on Saturday at Dykes Creek Baptist Church from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet Saturday at the church by 11:30 A.M: John M. 6261 Mr. John Matthew Martin, age 89, of Johnson City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Martin was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late John C. and Lela Wilkerson Martin. In addition to his parents, several brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.


Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Air Force after twenty-two years of service. He was an active member and deacon at Boones Creek Baptist Church for over forty years.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Jewell Tilson Martin; two daughters, Pat Mattox and her husband John and Kathy McIntyre and her husband Duane; one son, Dr. Timothy Martin and his wife Faye; seven grandchildren, Erin, Chris, Paul, Andrea, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Hannah; three great grandchildren, Cara, Adeline, and Chloe.

The family of Mr. John Matthew Martin will receive friends from 12 to 1 PM Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The funeral service will follow in the South Chapel at 1 PM. Rev. Kenneth Kyker and Evangelist Charles "Toonie" Cash will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. 6262 Mr. Johnnie Abraham Huskins, age 90, Erwin, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Center on Aging & Health in Erwin.
Mr. Huskins was born in Erwin and the son of the late Judge & Beulah Blevins Huskins. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Huskins, brothers, Clyde Huskins, Frank Huskins, James Huskins and Paul Huskins and three sisters, Thelma Huskins Howard, Siddie Huskins Lottner and Beatrice Huskins Woodfin.
He was the most wonderful father to Barbara Guinn and Shona Huskins. He was papaw to Rhonda Wolkotte, Robert Guinn Jr., Terry Allen Williams and Lindsey Williams. He has great grandchildren, Abagale, Christopher and Lillian Wolkotte, Jayden Caldwell, Waylon Williams and Kennedy Potter, Damian Hayes, Lucas Hayes, Bridgette, Archer, Kenzlee; and great grandchild, Alexandra Hayes. A special niece, Gloria Hall.
Celebration of life services will be conducted 12:00 pm Monday, March 2, 2020 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor David Green officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 pm prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Bumpass Cove Cemetery.

6263 Mr. Johnnie Anderson, age 82, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Anderson was born May 28, 1940, in Washington County, TN and the son of the late Joseph Grant “J.G.” & Anna Ruth Bacon Anderson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Douglas Anderson.

He was a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church.

Mr. Anderson was a Drafter Operator with Eastman Chemical Company and a farmer. He enjoyed Jigsaw Puzzles.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Anderson, Jonesborough; three sons, Robby Anderson, Jamey Anderson (Beth) and Tony Anderson, all of Jonesborough; four grandchildren, William Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Maggie Krug (Evan) and Chloe Anderson; a host of nephews and nieces; and special friends, Ed & Joy Hawkins, Marion, NC.

The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Jackie Miller and the nurses and staff of 2200 wing of Johnson City Medical Center.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Mt. Wesley Cemetery with Pastor Jeremy Dykes officiating.

6264 Mr. Joseph Earle Steadman, 101, of Saluda Nursing Center, died Friday, Jan. 20, 1995.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Emory United Methodist Church, with the Revs. William Cooper and Thom Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Steadman, a native of Bamberg, had retired from public service as a civilian assistant to the fiscal director of the Navy Bureau of Ships. He was a published genealogist. He was a member of Emory United Methodist Church, where he was pianist, organist, choir director and a Sunday school teacher for 20 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Wagner, Norfolk, Va., and Elizabeth Taylor, West Columbia; a sister, Meldred Jester, Saluda; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

6265 Mr. Justin Dean "Bud" Grindstaff, of Dogwood Acres in Hampton, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015 surrounded by his family. He would have been 86 years old on August 10.
Mr. Grindstaff was born in Old Butler, TN and was preceded in death by his parents, Leta Stout Grindstaff and Robert Sherman Grindstaff; sisters, Dora Blackwell, Jewell Blackburn, Ilean Gwyn, and a grandson, Adam James.
Bud was a barber and owned Bud's Barber Shop and Beauty Shop of Hampton, TN, having served the community since 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and served as a barber aboard the ship, U.S.S. Laffey DD724. He was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and fixing "all things broken." He loved having all his family gather each Sunday at PAP's house and he also loved to fly and vacation with his family.
Those left to celebrate his life include his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Lou Odom Grindstaff of the home; his loving son and daughter, Mark Dean Grindstaff and his wife, Shelecia and Lisa Grindstaff James; his precious grandchildren include, Seth Grindstaff and his wife, Lauren, Justin Grindstaff, Caleb James and his only granddaughter, Hannah Grindstaff; and his siblings, Kyle Grindstaff, Elsie Clark, and Eldona Norris. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Celebration of Life service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Ron Owens officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service and at the home at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

6266 Mr. Kyle Chambers, 94, Pine Hill Road, Elizabethton died Monday, September 4, 2006 in Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late William H. and Florene Vanhuss Chambers. Mr. Chambers was a homebuilder and had built over two hundred homes in the Elizabethton area. He also worked as an appraiser for Elizabethton Federal Bank where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was very active in the community. Mr. Chambers was a member of First Baptist Church Elizabethton where he had served as Treasurer, Trustee and Deacon. He was a great example of a Christian gentleman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a sixty year member of the American Legion Post #49, Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Mary S. Chambers of the home and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mr. Kyle Chambers will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 in First Baptist Church Elizabethton with Rev. Brent Seals and Rev. Bob Polk officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday following the funeral service at the church or at the residence, 605 Pine Hill Road, Elizabethton at other times. 6267 Mr. L.B. Ward, 74, of Mims Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Aiken.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Winfield Heights Baptist Church with the Revs. David Stover and Tommy Hutto officiating.

Mr. Ward, a native of Carter County, Tenn., retired from the construction transportation department of E.I. DuPont at Savannah River Plant. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Winfield Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Rainbolt Ward; two sons, Lloyd B. Ward, Williston, and Arthur Jann Ward, Gilbert; four daughters, Sharon W. Moody, Jo W. Owens, Edie W. Richardson and Elaine W. Boyleston, all of Williston; two brothers, Stanley Ward, Sorrento, Fla., and Lewis Ward, Hampton, Tenn.; two sisters, Edith W. Moody and Dorothy W. Ward, both of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

6268 Mr. Landon Pritchard, age 74, of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2017 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was the son of the late Omer and Alice Wilson Pritchard.

He retired as a truck driver with Colonial Freight Line with twenty-five years of service. His CB handle was “Cannonball”. Landon served Carter County as a Constable and was always willing to serve his community and anyone needing help. He was the longest serving constable in the state of Tennessee. Landon was also a professional auctioneer. He was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church and was a 32nd degree Mason of the Knoxville Scottish Rite Bodies and a member of the York Rite and the Dashiel Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM and the Shriners. He was also a member of the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Landon enjoyed going with Betty to Roy’s Sunshine Market for their nights of singing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Pritchard and a sister, Linda Scalf.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of forty years, Betty Moore Pritchard; three daughters, Karen Calloway and husband David, Tracy Shepard and husband Alan and Nancy Taylor and husband Barry, all of Elizabethton; a brother, Paul Pritchard and wife Jean, Gray Station, TN; two sisters, Charlotte Isenhour, Charlotte, NC and Faye Stover and husband George, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Jack Buckles and wife Jodi, Misty Lloyd and husband Aaron, Alan Shepard and wife Tristyl, all of Elizabethton and Rhonda Blevins and husband Andy, Chilhowie, VA. A service to honor the life of Mr. Landon Pritchard will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Steve Nauman and Rev. Lenny Smith officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sue Bowers, pianist, Madisyn Umphrey, the Shepard family and Chuck Mathes. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday prior to the funeral service or at the residence at other times. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Dennis Deese officiating. 6269 Mr. Lloyd G. Winters, 89, formerly of 216 South Main Street, Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Winters was the son of the late Monroe and Mary Belle Deloach Winters and was a native of Carter County.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jordan Winters, in 1986; a brother, Robert Winters; two sisters, Gladys Winters Taylor and Hazel Winters.

Mr. Winters was a retired printer from E.T.S.U. and worked at Pressman's House in Rogersville. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in WWII. He was a member and elder of Memorial Presbyterian Church, Elizabethton.

Mr. Winters is survived by two nephews, Steve Winters and his wife, Cindy, Ocean Springs, MS, and Gregory L. Winters and his wife, Sally, Vancouver, WA. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 17, 2009, from 1:00-2:30 PM at Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM, following the visitation, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Dwight Basham officiating. Active pallbearers will be members of Memorial Presbyterian Church.

6270 Mr. Marion Jessie Linville, 77, died Thursday, December 4, 1997 at the Johnson
City Medical Center.

Mr. Linville was a lifelong Unicoi County resident and a son of the late Nate
D. and Bessie Tapp Linville. He served as a Seaman II Class with the United
States Navy during World War II, while stationed in San Leandro, California.
He retired from Kloppers, Baltimore, Maryland as a machinist following 40
years of service. Mr. Linville was a member of Centenary United Methodist
Church, Erwin where he served in various offices of the church, including
serving on the Board of Trustees for several years.

Mr. Linville was preceded in death by one son, Marion Dennis Linville, on May
14, 1989. Survivors include his wife, Daphne Bellamy Linville; one daughter
and son-in-law, Linda and Robert "Bob" Meil, Westminster, Maryland; one son
and daughter-in-law, Joseph E. and Patricia Linville, Westminster, Maryland;
six sisters, Mrs. Lucille Piercy, Burnsville, North Carolina; Mrs. Margaret
Ann Yeager, Knoxville; and Mrs. Marie Ramsey, Mrs. Betty Black, Mrs. Eula Mae

6271 Mr. Max R. Moody, 87, of 147 Garden Street, Blowing Rock, died Friday morning, March 31, 2006, at Blowing Rock Hospital.

He was born March 25, 1919 in Watauga County, a son of Benjamin and Maude White Moody.

Mr. Moody was owner and operator of Moody's Furniture in Blowing Rock for 60 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was also a Journeyman Electrician who assisted in wiring the nuclear plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and a member of the Blowing Rock Fire Department for 32 years.

Mr. Moody was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kristi Hope Moody; one sister, Edna Moody Collins; one sister-in-law, Thelma Deal; and one brother-in-law, Owen Coffey.

6272 Mr. Mike Ward, 91, of 523 Flat Springs Road, Elk Park, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

He was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Beech Mtn., Avery County, to the late James Monroe and Zona Mills Ward.

Mr. Ward was a retired farmer and a member of Beech Mtn. Regular Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Ray Ward and wife, Lucille; Dennis Ward and wife, Kate; Elbert Ward and wife, Sally; and J.D. Ward and wife, Eileen, all of Elk Park; three daughters, Velma Gragg and husband, Cubie, of Elk Park; Mrs. Reba Church and Shirley Miller and husband, Eddie, all of Butler, Tenn. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Stines Ward; one son, Grady Ward; four sisters, Jane Greene, Grace Harmon, Ann Oaks and Eliza Stines; and five brothers, Dayton Ward, Ronda Ward, George Ward, Tom Ward and Raleigh Ward.

Services were conducted Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Eric Cornett and Mr. Keith Church.

Graveside services and burial were conducted Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Ward Cemetery in Elk Park.

6273 Mr. Millard M. Trivett, of Vilas, North Carolina, died at Watauga Medical Center. Mr. Trivett was born August 22, 1930 in Johnson County, Tennessee, a son of the late George Calvin Trivett and June Harmon Trivett. He served in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired after 21 years of service. After returning from the military, he was an employee for Yates Electric Company for 5 years, then joining Hodges (Klink) Moving and Storage for 21 years. Mr. Trivett was a member and former treasurer of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church for 27 years. Mr. Trivett is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Anderson Trivett of the home; two sons, Robert "Bob" Trivett and wife Janet of Zionville, and James Trivett and wife Libby of Vilas; three granddaughters, Nancy Isaacs and husband Travis of Vilas, Bobbie Sue Hood of Zionville, and Emily Trivett of Zionville; two grandsons, Kevin Trivett and wife Jennifer of Vilas, and Robert Dale Trivett and wife Amy of Boone; two sisters, Geraldine Ward and husband Bob of Valle Crucis, and Ava Trivett of Boone, and two brothers, Bill Trivett and wife Peggy of Boone, and G.C. 6274 Mr. Paul Alfred Coffey, 98, of 1900 Hillsmere Lane, Staunton, Va., formerly of Boone, N.C., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at Loyalton of Staunton, Va.

He was born Dec. 30, 1909 in Watauga County, a son of the late Dell Carlton and Mary Jane Bodenhamer Coffey.

Mr. Coffey was a member of Old Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, and was a farmer.

Graveside services and burial was conducted Sunday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2008, at 3 o'clock at the Old Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday from 1-2:30 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. 6275 Mr. Paul Johnson, age 82, of Roan Mountain, TN passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018

at his residence. A native of Roan Mountain, he was the son of the late John and Daisy Birchfield Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a retired U.S. Navy Chief and he served during the Vietnam War. He was the owner of the White Way Grill. Mr. Johnson was the V.F.W. Post # 2166 Commander and a member and Past Master of the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge # 566 F&AM and was a past Vice-President and Founder of the Jericho Shrine Temple of Roan Mountain.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katrene Willis Johnson and five sisters, Viola Roark, Edith Holdren, Deliah Freeman, Creola Gentry and Ora Tony. Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Paula Johnson Rovelo, Roan Mountain and Laura Johnson Szillus and husband Ken, Rio Rancho, NM. Two granddaughters, Paulina Katrene Rovelo, Roan Mountain and Angela Szillus, Rio Rancho, NM also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mr. Paul Johnson will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain. Masonic service will be held at the funeral home by the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge # 566 F&AM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the service.

6276 Mr. Perry Lee Presnell, age 86, of Perry Presnell Road, Banner Elk, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 26, 2020, in Lexington. Born June 13, 1933, in Watauga County, he was a son of Lewis and Cora Price Presnell. Perry was a member of Charity Baptist Church. He had many, many friends and one God. He loved to fellowship with people over a good meal, anywhere and anytime, sharing his love of the Lord. Mr. Perry enjoyed his life time career in carpentry and construction.

He is survived by his Daughter: Carol Langston and husband, Roger, of Lexington; Step-son: Dennis Presnell and wife, Betty, of Union, SC; and several Step-grandchildren: including Little Den. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife of 37 years: Bertha Ward Presnell; Sisters: Rosie Hopkins, Ella Reece and Novella Presnell; and Brothers: Andrew Jack Presnell and Richard W. Presnell.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Lee Reece.

The family received friends from 10 to 11:00 a.m. prior to services at Austin & Barnes. Graveside services followed at the Presnell Cemetery.

6277 Mr. Philip E. Shull, age 80, of Hampton, TN passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at his residence.

A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Joseph Carluss and Hazel Clark Shull. Mr. Shull retired from Inland Containers. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and he attended Hampton Church of God. Mr. Shull was a Tennessee Vols fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts and nephews.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of fifty-one and one half years, Faye Shull, of the home; a daughter, Lisa Blevins and her husband David, Elizabethton; a granddog, Lowla; a sister, Loretta Crowder and her husband Sam, Elizabethton and an aunt, Betty Lou Chambers, Elizabethton.

6278 Mr. Rabun Burleson, 75, of Valdese, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, following a period of declining health.

Rabun was born July 13, 1942, in Avery County, to the late Arnold Burleson and Oma Thelma Cole Burleson. He was a retired painter by trade and was a loving father, grandfather and brother to all his family.

In addition to his Parents, he was preceded in death by his Brothers: Eddie, Tony and Alton Burleson. Survivors include his Children: April Renee Brank of Connelly Springs, Shane Alan Burleson of Hickory and Chasity La'Na Burleson of Catawba. Also surviving are his Sisters: Betty Johnson, "Matavia" Ann Shuffler and Sandra Motley.

Known as "The Burleson Triplets," Rabun, Alton and Matavia lived in the Hughes community with their family, and numerous cousins prior to moving to the Morganton/Valdese area in the early 1960s.

They attended Newland schools, and were known throughout the local area as "a talented and harmonizing singing trio," in addition to being a very industrious trio both in the bean and cabbage fields, plus herb gathering. Their beautiful harmonies and joyful countenance will be missed by those who knew them!

6279 Mr. Ralph Williams, 86, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was the son of the late Charlie and Daisy McKinney Williams and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Williams, Jim Williams and Farris Williams.

Mr. Williams retired from Norwell and was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in World War II. He served as a deacon for many years at Zion Baptist Church and at Lynn Valley Baptist Church where he was a member. Mr. Williams was also a member of The Praying Mountain Men.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Ruth R. Williams of the home; three daughters, Patricia Hartley and her husband, John, Mountain City; Traci McClure and her husband, Lance, Altavista, VA; Lynn Trivette and her husband, Steve, Elizabethton; one son, Danny R. Williams and his wife, Jada, Elizabethton; seven grandchildren, Amy Hartley, Doug Hartley, Neil Hartley, Carol Ann Johnson, Jacob McClure, Joshua McClure and Ashley Trivette; and one sister, Stella Barnett, Elizabethton. Several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

A praise service for Mr. Williams will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, April 16th at Lynn Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Hartley and Pastor Dennis Wilson officiating. The music will be under the direction of Mr. Neil Hartley. A gathering for family and friends will immediately follow the praise service in the church fellowship hall.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 17th at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Brady Williams, Rick Shaw, Sam Moody, Dean Rainbolt, Fred Jenkins, Ron Miller and Dave White. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. William's friends at Lynn Valley Baptist Church and members of The Praying Mountain Men. Everyone will meet at Lynn Valley Baptist Church at 10:15 on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

6280 Mr. Randy Markland, age 63, of Elizabethton passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Elizabethton, he was the son of the late George Edward and Wanda Mae Clark Markland. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War era.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Markland. Survivors include a sister, Vicki Markland, Johnson City; a brother, Mark Markland and wife Angie, Elizabethton; a niece, Mallory Howell and husband Matt, Johnson City; two aunts, Betty Chambers and Anna Sue Clark, both of Elizabethton and an uncle, Howard Markland, Michigan. 6281 Mr. Raymond Odell Hicks, 79, of Elk Park, N.C., passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Born June 21, 1940 in Watauga County, N.C., he was a son of the late Raymond Floyd Hicks and Bonnie Victoria Harris Hicks. Raymond was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church and was a retired carpenter and meat cutter. Mr. Hicks worked for Wilkie Construction, A&P Grocery and the Thrift Food Center. Raymond also enjoyed making churches from matchsticks and wood chimes.

He is survived by one Daughter: Bonita Wilcox and husband, Billy, of Vilas; two Sons: Robert Bob Hicks of Gatlinburg, TN and Mikeal Hicks of Elk Park; and four Grandchildren: Luke Wilcox of Vilas, Matthew Hicks and fiancé Tanya McCloud of Mountain City, TN, and Jake and Kevin Hicks of Gatlinburg, TN; and one Brother: William Filmore Buck Hicks of Elk Park.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his Wife: Goldie Blanche Presnell Hicks; one Sister: Iva Lee Presnell; and one Brother: Doyle Hicks.

Richard was born on May 3, 1947, to the late Shelby & Dorothy Privette Henley.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brother, Raymond Henley; sisters, Viola McKinney; Loretta “Penny” Garst, Nancy Powell & sister-in-law, Linda Wexler Privette.

Richard was the Co-Owner & Operator of G&H Contractors, where he built houses for 20 years. He was also the owner & operator of Henley’s Auto Sales for over 20 years. His favorite pastime was working on & showing antique cars. One of his special favorites was Friday nights with all of his friends at Hardee’s with Jonesborough Cruisers. His best friends for life were Bill Harvey, Dennis Garst & Kenneth Privette.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Mable Wexler Henley; sons & wives, Richard Eugene “Ricky” Henley & Teresa, Randal Scot “Randy” Henley & Loretta, Rex Allen Henley & Mona Lisa; grand-daughter, Haven Noel Henley; sisters, Lois Garst & Rita Smith.

6283 Mr. Richard Jack Collins, age 80, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 in Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late O.B. "Shorty" and Anna Mae Guess Collins. Mr. Collins worked as a supervisor in the cutting department of East TN Undergarment for thirty-six years. He attended Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church and he was a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. Richard enjoyed a life time of riding and training "trick" horses. He also looked forward to spending time with the many horse owners and friends who stopped by the barn everyday.

6284 Mr. Ricky Dean Collins, 57, of Johnson City, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his residence.
He was the son of Darlene Stout Collins, of Johnson City, and the late Gary Kyle Collins. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Lillie Stout; and his paternal grandparents, Eston and Maxine Collins.
Mr. Collins was a graduate of Unaka High School and attended Walters State Community College, where he played baseball. He started a career in law enforcement with the Carter County Sheriff's Department. He continued to work in law enforcement with the Elizabethton Police Dept., the ETSU Campus Police and the Johnson City Police Department, where he retired following thirty plus years of service. During his time at JCPD he worked with the Drug Task Force and the SWAT Team. After he retired, he returned to JCPD and was currently working as a training consultant.
He was also a former member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, A.Q.H.A, A.P.H.A, N.R.H.A. and the Liaison for the Tennessee Reining Horse Association.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of thirty years, Vicki Lee Collins, of the home; a sister, Kay Collins, Johnson City; a niece Seidena Malone and her husband, Josh, Johnson City; two great-nephews, Collin Nidiffer and Kayson Malone, both of Johnson City; a great-niece, Everly Malone, Johnson City; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Helen Lee.
The service to honor the life of Mr. Collins will be conducted on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. James Richardson and Chaplain Edward Jefferies officiating. Honor Guard will be provided by the Johnson City Police Department.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service and at the home of his mother at other times.

6285 Mr. Robert E. Treadway, Jonesborough, age 78, passed away on Thursday September 17, 2015, at Four Oaks Health Care.

Mr. Treadway was a native of Washington County and the son of the late Bennie and Flora Barnes Treadway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Ruthie Ellen Shelton; brothers, Herbert Treadway and Franklin Treadway.

Mr. Treadway retired from the Washington County School System having worked in the maintenance Department.

He was a Member of Morning Star Baptist Church and former member of Wayland Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Treadway; four sons, Ralph Treadway (Linda), Brian Treadway, Gary Treadway, and Russell Treadway (Cheryl); grandchildren, Randall Treadway, Sarah Treadway, Amanda Berrey (Brandon), Andrew Treadway (Krista), Jennifer Treadway; great-grandchildren, Landon, Cooper, Adam, Emma, Katie Jo, Nicholas, Breanna, Addison, and Madeline; sisters, Francis Deakins, Ruth Shelton (Jerry David), and Irene Shelton (Bill).

6286 Mr. Robert Edsel "Ed" Deloach, 82, passed away Saturday morning, October 5, 2013, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Born in Blackshear on September 17, 1931, Mr. Deloach had lived in Hilliard, FL for many years before moving back to Pierce County in 1992. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer with the US Navy and had finished out his retirement by working in the maintenance department at Air Traffic Control in Hilliard, FL. Mr. Deloach was known for being able to fix anything no matter how challenging it may have been.

He was a member of Rehobeth Baptist Church where he was a deacon and was in the Adult Men's Sunday school class. Mr. Deloach and his late wife, Mary Chal Stanford Deloach, were former members of Hilliard First Baptist Church and went on several mission trips.
Mr. Deloach enjoyed fox hunting and was a member of The Fox Pen Hunting Club.

He was a son of the late William Evan & Mary Ann Roberts Deloach. In addition to his first wife, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Deloach and Juanita Colley; and also by all six of his brothers, W. T. Deloach, Doris Deloach, Burnell Deloach, Ray Deloach, Jerry Deloach and David Deloach.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice Davis Deloach of Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Micki & Marcus Peagler of Jackson, MS; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby, Jr. & Tina Deloach of Hilliard, FL; two step-daughters, June Lagrue of Brunswick and Lynn Holton of Blackshear; a step-son, Tommy (Jackie) Hinson of Waverly; two sisters, Carolyn (Leo) Marks and Norene (Hershel) Kruise all of Texas; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

He was the son of the late Wil-liam Har-mon and Mary El-li-ott Bow-ers and was born in Ban-ner Elk, NC. In ad-di-tion to his par-ents, he was pre-ceded in death by a son, Robert Har-mon Bow-ers Jr.; two sis-ters, Carol Ruth Bow-ers and Nancy Reece; and a brother, Johnny Paul Bow-ers.
Mr. Bow-ers was a grad-u-ate of the Eliz-a-beth-ton High School class of 1965. He was in-ter-ested in col-lect-ing an-tiques and he liked to fish. He was a mem-ber of Bible Bap-tist Church.

6289 Mr. Robert Tipton Nave, age 87, of Johnson City, TN, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in the Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, TN, he was the son of the late Elbert Vance Nave and Margaret Barnes Nave.

Mr. Nave received his BS Degree from East Tennessee State University and received Master's Degrees from the University of Tennessee and U.C.L.A. He was a retired school teacher having taught in Carter County, Florida and California and he was a member of the Watauga Historical Association and enjoyed genealogy. Mr. Nave was a U.S. veteran, having served in both Air Force and the Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Allen Nave; a niece, Shirley Anne Wandell; and a niece-in-law, Sandra Whitehead Wandell.

Survivors include his sister, Anne N. Hensley and husband, Woodward, Elizabethton; two nephews, James Vance Wandell and wife, Angela, Elizabethton, and Robert Frank Wandell, Knoxville, TN; a great-niece, Sarah Michelle; and a great-nephew, Michael Wandell and wife, Amanda. Mr. Scalf was retired from Moores Potato Chip Company and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart.

6292 Mr. Taft Eggers, 94, of Trade, Tennessee, died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Watauga Medical Center, following a brief illness.

He was born October 28, 1908, the late Millard Monroe and Nelia Main Eggers, and was a native of Trade, Tennessee.

Mr. Eggers was a farmer, logger and a former employee of the Johnson County Highway Department. He was a member of the Centerview Church of Christ.

Survivors include four daughters; three sons; four sisters; one brother, 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; and special friend Boyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosa Miller Eggers; one daughter, Jean Eggers Lippard, one daughter-in-law, Eleanor Roberts Eggers; an infant daughter; one brother, Stacy Eggers; one sister, Lola Wilson and one son-in-law, Dick Wilson.

Services were conducted Sunday evening at 8 p.m. at the Hux-Lippard Funeral Home, officiated by Mr. Bud Gentry and Mr. Darrell Broking officiating. Entombment services were held Monday morning at 10 a.m. at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum of Love.

6293 Mr. Thomas M. Cole, Sr., 91, Jonesborough, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the Christian Care Center of Johnson City.

Mr. Cole was a deacon and Sunday school teacher in church until his illness did not allow him to attend. He was of the Baptist faith. He told everyone he met of his savior, Jesus Christ, until he could not speak any longer.

Mr. Cole worked for Tennessee Game and Fish for eleven years prior to retiring from the US Postal Service as a rural carrier after thirty years of service. He worked part-time at Morris-Baker for several years.

He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Melvin as a Torpedoman's Mate Third Class during World War II.

He was preceded in death by: his mother, Emily Queen Cole; father, Thomas Jefferson Cole; wife of forty-three years, Bernice Edwards Cole; second wife, Thelma Braswell Cole; one brother, Melvin Cole; and four sisters, Maxie Goodman, Lydia Mae Johnson, Mallie Burleson, and Ruth Chapman.

He is survived by: son, Thomas M. Cole, Jr., and his wife Cathy; twin daughters, Sharon and Karen Cole; four grandchildren, Eric Jones, Kristy Jones, Jeromy Jones, and Nikki Cole Weaver; four great grandchildren, Jennifer Jones, Brandon Jones, and J.T. Steet and Madison Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lowe was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late George W. and Annie Lowe.

Mr. Lowe was a retired State Farm Insurance agent with twenty years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Mr. Lowe was a member of the Boone Trail Baptist Church, the Johnson City Masonic Lodge # 486, all York Rite Bodies and the Jericho Shrine, North Johnson City Business Club and the Model A Car Club.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Betty Blevins Lowe, in 1995; one son, Thomas Lowe; several brothers and two sisters.

He was born July 8, 1912, in the Silverstone Community of Watauga County to john and Della Wilson Sanders. He was a retired service station owner and operator and farmer. He was a member and former Sunday school teacher of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Dancy Sanders, five daughters, two grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, one sister and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverends Jerry Smith and Clyde Campbell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a son of the late Calvin Allen Kyker and Rose Kyker Lentz, of Brooksville, FL. He was also preceded in death by a brother.

He was a carpenter and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Johnson City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a native of Watauga County but had spent most of his life in Avery County. He was the son of the late Richard William and Lucy Louarty McGuire. He was retired from Banner Elk Hardware.

Survivors include three daughters, Doris McGuire Heaton and Betty McGuire Roberts, both of Banner Elk, and Bernice McGuire Buchanan of Minneapolis, N.C.; three sisters, Violet Young of Sunbright, Tenn., Julia Oliver of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Annie Tester of Banner Elk; and three brothers, George McGuire of Banner Elk, Lee McGuire of Wilson and Keseler McGuire of Elizabethton, Tenn. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Floy Dollars McGuire, and a son, Mr. Melton Lawrence McGuire.

6298 Mr. Warren D. "Sput" Taylor, age 58, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Elizabethton, he was the son of Fannie Timbs Taylor, Elizabethton, and the late Warren G. Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a quality control compliance technician with Bristol Metals. He was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church, a member of the Watauga Association of Genealogy and a member of the American Society of Quality Control (A.S.Q.C.).
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Lisa Taylor, of the home; two daughters, Brittney Grabiel and husband, Chris, Gallatin, TN, and Jennifer Arnold and husband, Mike, Gray, TN; two granddaughters, Taylor Grabiel and Addison Arnold; a grandson, Silas Grabiel; and a sister, Mary Grindstaff, Elizabethton. Several brothersinlaw, sistersinlaw, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
Sput and Lisa were married for 37 years. Sput was saved and baptized in 1979. He had a passion for life, a winning smile, and was always quick to lend a helping hand to others.

Wayne retired from Sunbelt Homes of Myrtle Beach and was the owner and operator of Kiser Construction for 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach and of the Moose Lodge in Abington, VA.

Mr. Honeycutt was born in Washington County and is the son of Lena Whaley Honeycutt Ensor of Greeneville and the late Wayne Honeycutt. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bill Ensor, infant sister, Alice Kay Honeycutt

He was a Christian. He loved being with his grandchildren, enjoyed fishing and was a Tennessee VOLS fan. He graduated from David Crockett High School and was always one to help others.

Mr. Honeycutt worked for Bosch as a lathe operator.

Survivors include his son, Travis Honeycutt (Brandy) Jonesborough; daughter, Emily Cable (Michael), Greeneville; granddaughters, McKinley Honeycutt and Allie Cable; grandson, Rylan Cable; sister, Teresa Taylor (Tim), Greeneville; nieces and nephew, Misty Brown (Stacy), Avery Armstrong and Ali Armstrong; loving fiancé, Michelle Arwood, Johnson City; and many special friends and family.
