5601 Lola "Peggy" Woodard, age 82, of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Monday September 16, 2019 at the Greystone Healthcare Center of Blountville, TN. She was born September 22, 1936 to the late John Osborne and Martha Sluder Osborne. In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in death by her sister Avis Smith from PA and two infant baby sisters.

Lola favorite thing was going to thrift stores and yard sales. She loved reading her Bible at night. Lola was always helping other people; she had a big heart and would give the shirt off her back to anyone. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the Joy of her life. Lola took pride in taking pictures of her family to cherish those memories.

She was a member of Berea Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include daughter, Sheila Tester Cooke and fiancé Mike Winters, Phyllis Yarber and husband Doug, Marion Roush and special friend Willy Osborne, son, Robert Wagner, sisters, Millie Roark of Mountain City, Maxine Eller of Mountain City, Betty Knutsen of Millsboro, DE, Della Gaye of FL; brothers, Carl Osborne of Butler, TN, Ray Osborne and Tip Osborne of Mountain City, TN, grandchildren, Robert Wagner, Madison Wagner, Benji Reece, John Eisenhower, III, Mackenzie Cooke, Derek Sluder, Phyllicia Sluder, Patricia Robinson, Crystal and Abby Robinson, Stasha Martin, Hollie Roush, Gracie Robinson, Ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and entombment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum of Love, with Daniel Jones to officiate. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

5602 Lola Mae Pardue, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, November 24, 2021 at Signature Health Care of Elizabethton. She was born October 7, 1929, in Leona Mines, VA to the late Edward Boone Moody and Zola Morefield Moody. In addition to her parents, Lola Mae was preceded in death by her husband Fred Pardue; son, Garry Shelton; sisters, Blanche Eggers, Ruth Taylor, Eula Taylor, Jennie Lee Moody, and brothers, Hugh and Dean Moody.

Lola Mae cooked in various restaurants through the years and at Boone Trail Dairy Bar for the Ashley’s until it closed. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Larry Shelton; grandchildren, Levi Shelton, Katti Nelson, Dwayne Duffield, Jennifer Winters; several great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Greer of Elizabethton, TN, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Richard Stout officiating.
The graveside service and burial will follow from the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Levi Shelton, Dwayne Duffield, Bryson Duffield, Will Taylor, Michael Nelson and Jordan Jones.

5603 Lon Herbert Wiseman, 91, of Burlington passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019, at Liberty Commons surrounded by his family. He was born in Avery County to the late Charles Alexander Wiseman and Alberta Nevada Cuthberson Wiseman and was married to the late Joyce Franklin Wiseman.

Lon was head of maintenance at Carolina Biological for 35 years. He was a mason and shriner who spent time transporting children to and from the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC. He enjoyed fishing, traveling with his wife, playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his Daughters: Debbie Feemster (Robert), Judy Troxler (Bobby) and Lonita Ahern (Kevin); five Grandchildren, seven Great Grandchildren and a Sister: Marcell Valencia. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a Brother: Albert Wiseman.

A private graveside service will be held in Spruce Pine, NC at a later date.

5605 Lonnie Alvin Ward, age 88, of Sugar Grove, died August 5, 2016 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir. He was a long time member of Antioch Baptist Church, a US Army veteran having served in WWII in the 88th Blue Devil Division. In honor of his love for playing music he was presented with the Brown-Hudson Folklore Award in 2011, for playing the banjo two finger style. He loved and enjoyed playing music with many of his family members and friends. He loved to bowl, loved his Lord and loved people.

Lonnie is survived by three daughters, Betty Cornett of Boone, Peggy Nicely and husband Jim of Vilas, and Stella Chambers and husband Darrell of Cornelius, North Carolina two sons, Reverend Russell Ward and wife Naomi of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Harley ward and wife Donna Newberry of Kingsport, Tennessee, five granddaughters, Ch (Cpt) Patricia Nichols and husband Ch (Ltc) Jimmy Nichols of Fort Lewis, Washington, Valarie Durham and husband Maj. Neal Durham of Midway, Georgia, Amy Lynn Cornett of Boone, Starr Nicely and husband Joe Gren of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Christie Jones and husband Eddie of Davidson, North Carolina, five grandsons, 2 Lt. Russell Ward, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Biloxi, Mississippi, Travis Charlie Cornett and wife Amanda of Boone, Scott Garlock and Fiancee Angela Stark of Huntersville, North Carolina, Eric Neil Ward of Banner Elk and Brian Nathan Ward and wife Christy of Zionville, two sisters, Berlie Mae Ward of Elk Park, North Carolina and Rosie Hicks and husband Julius of Banner Elk, two brothers, Aris Ward and wife Grace of Elizabethton, Tennessee and Earl Ward and wife Pansey of Hudson, North Carolina, and 18 great-grandchildren and a special friend Geneva Glenn of Sugar Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Hannah Ward; his father and mother, Charlie Lee Ward and Kizzie Presnell Ward; one granddaughter, Tonya Sue Nicely; and two brothers, Conard and Arnold Ward; and a son-in-law, Len Cornett.

Funeral services held at Antioch Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Daniel Lawrence, Pastor Eric Cornett and Pastor Jeff Wilson. Burial in the Ward family cemetery. Military honors, provided by American Legion Post 130 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90.

5606 Lonnie Oxendine Hill, 97, Hampton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton following a lengthy illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late George and Eva Jane Morgan Oxendine. She was a retired factory worker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Hill; Her Sisters: Glynia Bowling, Geneva Odom and Joann Hill; and a brother: Harvey Oxendine.
She was a member of the Sunset Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter: Brenda Edwards, Telford; A Grandson: Jimmy Edwards; Two Sisters: Rosa Lee Stevens, Hampton, and Patsy Hudgins, of North Carolina; A brother & sister-in-law: Jim & Velma Oxendine, Johnson City; Several nieces & Nephews; and a special "Mamaw" to David Moody and Josh White. Her Special Friends: Katie Banner, Ted & Faye Fender and many others.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Richardson and Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating.

5607 Lonnie Roark, age 70, of Mooresville, North Carolina, went home to be with his Lord and his beautiful wife Judy, on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, North Carolina. Lonnie was born on February 18, 1946 to the late Walter and Viola Johnson Roark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Hitechew Roark; and one brother, David Roark.

Lonnie retired as a quality control manager and was a United States Marine veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed hot rod cars, gardening, and reading and studying the Bible. Lonnie was a loving, gentle faithful man, who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Adam Roark and wife Patty, of Mooresville, NC; his daughter, Carrie Roark-Whited and husband Billy, of Catawba, NC; a granddaughter, Jaden Roark, of Mooresville, NC; one step granddaughter, Zoey Baumgardner, of Mooresville, NC; two step grandsons, Corey and Cody Whitehead, both of Mooresville, NC; one step great grandchild, Brody Allen Whitehead, of Mooresville, NC; two sisters, Mary Brengard, of NV and Marge Heglar and husband George, of Lancaster, SC; one brother, Jonnie Roark and wife Burma, of Clairemont, NC; a special niece, Kathy Heaton, of Roan Mountain, TN; and a special friend, "Murphy". Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Lonnie Roark will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the Rhododendron Chapel at Tetrick Funeral Home of Roan Mountain with Rev. Tommy Burleson, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday; or at the residence of his niece, Kathy Heaton and husband Rick, at any time.

5609 Looney served in the Union 4th TN Inf. Looney joined the Union Army at the Strawberry Plains exit in Knoxville, TN. He was captured in McMinnville TN and released by the confederates that is now known as the "War of the Rebellion". According to a affidavit filed by friend James E. Hopkins, during the march to Kingston TN, Looney had trouble with his leg and attacked with Typhoid Fever and became very sick from wading in the waters and snow. He was treated by Dr.Norwood at a private home owned by a girlfriend of Srgt.George W. Richards, while in Kingston TN. Looney recovered from the fever and marched with his unit to Mossier Mills and then onto Morristown TN. He remained wounded until his discharge in Nashville TN in 1865. He received an honorable discharge and pension, he owned and lived on the land handed down to his wife Martha Garland, from her grandfather Samuel Garland until his death that included the Garland Cemetery and Stoney Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Blevins, Looney B. 5610 Lora Louise Hatley Bowman, 65, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, she was born July 28, 1956.
Lora was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and was a homemaker. She loved being with her grandchildren, fishing and picnicking. She was a member of Roan Street Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cody Bowman; her father, Joseph Jack Hatley; and three brothers, Larry Mack Hatley, Clifford “Bo” Hatley and Jeffrey Joseph Hatley.
Survivors include her daughter, Brittany Brooks Bowman; two grandchildren, Jayden Anthony William Stout and Sarah Marie Brooks Stout; her mother, Margaret Louise White Hatley; and five brothers, Rev. Mark (Geri) Hatley, Terry J. Hatley, Jerry A. Hatley, John T. Hatley and Gary Wayne (Judy) Hatley. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jody Bewley and Pastor Ken Bewley officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 3, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

5611 Loraine G. Snyder, age 89, of 6354 Hwy 67W, Mountain City, TN, passed away Sunday March 22, 2014, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
She was born April 28, 1925, to the Ronder H. Goodwin and Beulah Rambo Goodwin. She was a member of Doe Valley United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading and was a member of F.C.E. (Home Demonstration Club).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Rhudy; and a brother, Ronder Goodwin Jr.
Survivors include: her husband, W. Ben Snyder, of the home; one daughter: Kerwin Cornett and husband, Joe; one son: Terry Snyder and wife, Diana; two sisters: Anna Stout Ethridge and Ailene Mizell; grandchildren: Brian Snyder, Clay Graybeal, Candida Presnell, Joey Beth Souder, Jacinda Triplett; great grandchildren: Chloee Graybeal, Sydney Souder, Pacey Presnell, Corbin Presnell, Madilynn Triplett, Abigayle Triplett, Briton Snyder and Keegan Snyder.

5612 Lorena Owens McKee, 87, of Newland, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at her residence.

Lorena was born on April 21, 1934 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Jack Owens and the late Mabel Buchanan Owens.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, who loved her family and, above all else, her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Newland. When one walked into Lorena’s house, you immediately felt welcomed. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas William McKee; and sister, Glenda Banner.

Lorena leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Jackie McKee of Newland, NC; daughter, Janice (Richard) Phillips of Newland, NC; sister, Billie Trice of Newland, NC; grandson, Richie Phillips of Newland, NC; granddaughter, Christy (Nathan) Clark of Newland, NC; great-granddaughter, Taylor Phillips; and great-grandson, Braydon Johnson.

Services for Lorena McKee were held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 beginning at 8 p.m. from the Church of Jesus Christ — Newland with Pastor Dave Atkins officiating. The family received friends beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

Interment was in the Church of Jesus Christ Cemetery on Friday, August 20, at 11 a.m.

5613 Loretta Buchanan, 84 of Honeysuckle Lane, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at her residence. She is the daughter of the late Geter and Juanita Buchanan. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Frank, NC but faithfully attended Paint Fork Baptist Church in Mars Hill where she was loved dearly.

She is survived by a Son: David Bailey of Norcross, Ga.; Brothers: Charles Boyd Buchanan (Linda) of Elk Park, NC; Jimmy Clyde Buchanan (Gail) of Minneapolis, NC; and Rev. Wayne Buchanan (Betty) of Elk Park, NC; a host of Nieces and Nephews she loved and special Friends: Alice Garrett, Hazel Robinson, Maggie Atkins and Nell Masters.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Revs. Wayne Buchanan and Ronnie Robinson will officiated. Committal service followed in the chapel. Private burial will be held in the Middle Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Tim, Richard, Jeremy and Tracy Buchanan, Zachary Robinson, Steve Metcalf, Matthew Honeycutt and Aaron Jeffords. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Atkins and Eugene Metcalf. The family received friends one hour prior to the service.

5614 Loretta Vance Buchanan, 82, of Montezuma, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC.

She was born on December 15, 1940 in Avery County, NC, a daughter of the late Everett and Maxine Franklin Vance, graduated with an Associate's Degree in Business. Loretta worked for over 20 years with the Avery County Clerk of Superior Court and retired from the Avery County Schools, where she worked at Avery High and Avery Middle.

She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed traveling and taking care of her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Gary Buchanan, with whom she loved exploring and traveling to the far reaches of the American frontier; as well as a sister, Susie Kemper.

Loretta leaves behind to cherish her memory son, Allen (Lorie Clark) Buchanan of Mountain City, TN, son, Bruce (Martha Jo) Buchanan of Newland, NC, granddaughter, Ashley Buchanan, grandson, Michael (Amanda) Buchanan, grandson, Keith (Crystal) Buchanan, grandson, Gary R. (Fallon) Buchanan, granddaughter, Brooke (B.J.) Ruppard, Grandson, Devin Buchanan, great grandchildren, Landon Buchanan, Aaleah Buchanan, Robin Maxine Buchanan, Harper Buchanan, Tilly Buchanan, Julia Wright, sister Martha (Frank) Tugman, nieces and nephews, Billy Kemper, Jessica and Joshua Yates, Anna and Alex Palma; special friends, Melba Andrews.

Services for Loretta Buchanan were held at 2 p.m. on July 22, 2023, in the Aaron Baptist Church in Montezuma, NC with Rev. Brent Price officiating. The family received friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to The Med-Surg Staff of Cannon Memorial Hospital for the loving and wonderful care they provided to Loretta and her family.

5615 Loretta Whitehead McKinney, 66, of Roan Mountain, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center after a sudden illness on Monday, March 3, 2014.
McKinney was a Carter County native and the daughter of the late Charlie and Sarah Guinn Whitehead. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain. She loved the Lord and had many special friends who previously served with her at Little Mountain Baptist Church of Roan Mountain and at Witt Baptist Church in Morristown.
Nothing was more important to Mrs. McKinney than her family. She exemplified what it means to be a "Proverbs 31 woman." After marrying her husband Jim and moving to Morristown, her primary job was to be a full-time Mom to her two sons. For many years, she kept busy shuttling the boys to ballgames, bike races, 4-H fairs, clogging shows, karate lessons, and anything else that interested her sons at the time, while always doing her best to make sure that Jim came home to a clean house at night with supper on the table.
When she wasn't busy with the boys, she worked at a variety of jobs in manufacturing, marketing, and sales. She and Jim moved back to Roan Mountain upon their retirement. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and especially enjoyed making treats for them.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy McKinney, Roan Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Raquel McKinney, Piney Flats; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and April McKinney, Knoxville; five young grandchildren, Hunter, Lilly Kate, Rachael, Maggie, and Isla; a brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Louise Whitehead, Roan Mountain; a sister, Della Whitehead, Roan Mountain; a nephew, Chris Whitehead and wife Shannon Whitehead, Roan Mountain; and a niece, Laura Gorney and husband Charlie Gorney, Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in the First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain with the Rev. Garry Edwards and Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Calhoun-McKinney Cemetery. Music will be provided by Rev. Chris Hughes and Mrs JoNell Young, Organist. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday will be: Mike Blevins, Todd Markland, Johnny Markland, Larry Shell, Glen "Sonny" Burleson and Lynn Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donors favorite Charity. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain.

5616 Lorraine McCloud, age 69, of 421 Wilson Avenue, Mountain City, TN, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 11, 2012, in Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC.

She was born January 6, 1943, to the late John and Leah Crowder Moretz. Lorraine was a member of Nelsons Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU and also loved working in the church nursery.

She also loved cooking, reading her Bible, flowers, canning, walking and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McCloud; son, Gary McCloud; and one sister, Janice Robbins.

Survivors include: one son: Larry McCloud and wife, Sandra, of Mountain City, TN; daughter-in-law: Tammy McCloud, of Mountain City, TN; two sisters: Mary Miller and husband, Jimmy, and Helen Arnold and husband, Bud, all of Mountain City, TN; three grandchildren: Will McCloud, Leah McCloud and Ally McCloud; and several nieces and nephews. Special friends Trula Muse, Billie Ruth Tester, Jeannie Wilson, Ima Jean Payne, Nancy Brown and Donna Kerley also survive.

Funeral services for Lorraine McCloud were conducted Thursday, September 13, 2012, with Rev. Sam Icenhour and Mr. Richard Grubb officiating.

Graveside service and interment followed in Rainbow Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Mike Miller, Greg Miller, Jeff Miller, David Arnold, Robert Bower and Robert Robbins. 5617 Lottie Heaton Ollis, age 95, of Spruce Pine, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.

Born on Aug. 1, 1924, in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Myra Burleson Heaton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her Husband: Ted Ollis, who passed away in 1996. Also preceding her in death were her Brothers: Wilson Heaton and wife, Rose, and Sam Heaton and wife, Wilma; her Sister: Anna Lee Baird and husband, Glenn; and her Son-in-law: Robert Taylor.

Lottie was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church. She loved her grandchildren and taking care of them. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, camping and riding motorcycles. She was a collector of salt & pepper shakers. She also enjoyed attending concerts and listening to country music artist George Jones, and indulging in one of her great pleasures, Reese's Cups.

5618 Lottie Mae Fletcher, age 86, formerly of 4871 Sink Valley Road,
Butler, died Friday, December 5, 2003, at Pine Ridge Care Center,
Elizabethton, following an extended illness. A native of Johnson
County, she was the daughteof the late Alvin and Lillie Ward Rainbolt.
She was a member of Little Doe Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey R. Fletcher, April 22, 1974,
five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and David Silvers,
Huntsville, Ala.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Pansy
Fletcher, Carroll and Sue Fletcher, all of Butler; one brother, McKinley
Rainbolt, Hampton; one sister, Betty June Stout, Morristown; four
grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews
also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, December 6,
at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with the Rev. Harvey White
officiating. Music will be under the direction of Wings of Faith Singers.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday,
December 7, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be
Kodi Fletcher, Johnny Fletcher, Kenneth Rainbolt, Robert Banner, Jr.,
Bill Williams and Richard Cable. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Stephen
May. A special thank you to all the staff at Pine Ridge Care Center for

5619 Lou Martin, 93, of Burleson Road in Plumtree, NC, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, at her home.

Born on March 2, 1930 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Berdie Hamrick Burleson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Martin who passed away in 2013. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Frank Richard Burleson, Al Burleson, Jim Burleson and her grandchildren Brandon Biddix and Elizabeth Knowles.

Lou was a member of the Crossnore Presbyterian Church and she sang in the church choir. She retired from the Avery County School system and spent thirty-five years as an educator. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and also sang in the High Country Chorale Choir.

Lou loved working with plants and flowers and had a green thumb. She also enjoyed sewing and working in crafts and had a collection of tiny, adorable items. She never missed an event of her family members, she enjoyed traveling, the doors of her house were always open for anyone, and she cared for the well-being of animals.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bill Martin of Charlotte, Susy Martin Crouch of Plumtree and Harold Crouch of Salisbury, Melynda Martin Pepple and husband, Doug of Newland, Cindy Martin of Durham and partner, Ben Knowles of Durham, and Robby Martin of Newland; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

5620 Louis Allen “Butch” Fritts Jr., 72, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center. Louis was born on October 12, 1948 to the late Louis Allen Fritts Sr. and Thelma Boardwine Fritts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jo Ann Rinehart and nephew, Mark Cress.

Louis was veteran of the United States Army, serving 6 years and 2 tours in Korea during Peacetime. He always had a love of being outdoors; fishing and spending time with his grandkids and watching old westerns and military movies. He enjoyed going to the auctions and eating breakfast with his friends in the morning while he was able. Louis was a friend to everyone and had never met a stranger.

Those left to cherish his memories include his daughter, Christina Fritts and children, Mark Fritts and Hailey Shepherd; son, David Fritts and wife Donna and children, Brock and Hannah Fritts; sister, Barbara Stout and husband Ray; mother of his children, Kathleen Fritts; close friend, Burl McComas; special friends, Lou Clark, Betty Hammons, Mae Dugger, Ester Knight; several nieces and great nieces and nephews.

5621 Louis Allen “Dickie” Hamilton, age 71, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 at NHC of Johnson City. He was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, a son of the late Robert E. and Ruth Vest Hamilton. Dickie was a star athlete at Boones Creek High School class of 1968. He was known for his excellent basketball skills and played the guard position. Dickie was selected to play on the varsity team in his 8th grade year of school. He also played on the baseball team as the pitcher. He was of the Presbyterian faith, and had worked for the Johnson City Power Board and Pepsi. He loved watching University of Tennessee Basketball and Little League World Series games. He is survived by two brothers, Bobby Jack Hamilton and wife Brenda, and Charles W. 5622 Louis M. Tester, 81, of Eaton Township, Ohio, died Monday, August 30, 1999, at St. John Westshore Hospital, Westlake, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Tester was a native of Watauga County, N.C., and the son of the late Eli and Sarah Presnell Tester. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Tester, in 1994, and by six brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Tester had lived in Eaton Township for the past 34 years, coming from Cleveland. He was employed by Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, Ohio, in the maintenance department, with 27 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #1250.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Alta G. Bunton Tester; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jean and Ed Roch, North Olmstead, Ohio, Mary Fitts, San Antonio, Texas, and Kathy and Chuck Runyon, Grafton, Ohio; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Marshall and Linda Tester, Parma, Ohio, Robert and Karen Tester, Medina, Ohio, Ronnie and Liz Tester, LaGrange, Ohio, and Kenny Tester, Grafton, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Tester of Tennessee; and three sisters, Rilda Campbell, Ida Finney and Ruth Jones, all of Tennessee.

She was born on Aug. 24, 1931 in Banner Elk, NC, a daughter of the late Earl Carpenter Sr. and the late Alice Haga Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband of 44 years: Floyd Banner; Two Brothers: Earl Carpenter, Jr. and Cecil Carpenter.

Louise and Floyd owned Avery True Value Hardware store for 51 years. She was a member of Sugar Mountain Baptist Church where she was the secretary and treasurer for more than 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping, her friends and family. She was a very loving and caring person. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She loved all of her family and considered the community as her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family but she especially enjoyed the time she got to spend with her two grandsons. She liked to listen to Gospel Music, Vince Gill, and Roy Rogers.

5624 Louise Eggers Potter, 92, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Christian Care Center of Bristol. She was born in Butler, Tenn., the daughter of the late Jobe Eggers Sr. and Bertha Clarke Eggers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Fred Potter; three sons, Ronnie, Michael and Jonathan Potter; five brothers, Edward "Bus" Eggers, Bob Eggers, Doran Eggers, Charles Eggers and Lane Eggers; and three sisters, Elma Eggers, Hope Miller and Geraldine Brewer.
Louise was a resident of Bristol and Elizabethton and a member of Brookside Baptist Church. She faithfully served alongside her husband, Rev. Fred Potter, in various churches and ministries. Together they co-founded Brookside Baptist Church, Tri-State Children's Home and Charity Baptist Missions. She loved to travel, fish and playing games. Louise was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by one daughter, Janice Gentry; three grandchildren, Tim Hale and wife Donna, Melanie Trinkle and husband Tommy and Melissa Carrier Vincill and husband Sam; three great-grandchildren, David Motley, Kasey Hale and Hannah Vincill; one brother, Jobe Eggers Jr. and wife Billie; one sister, Lucille Carr; her furry dog friend, Flossie; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born August 27, 1939 in Boone, North Carolina to Arlie & Mae Eggers. She had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a 1957 graduate of Unaka High School. Louise was retired from the Carter County School System as a Teacher's Aide in the special Education. She was a member of the Little Mountain Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday School Secretary for several years. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, feeding the birds and working in her flowers.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years Leon Whitehead. Three Sisters: Ava Nell Morley and her husband J.B., Carolyn Pierce and Glenda Parks all of Elizabethton. One Brother: Cecil Eggers and wife Phyllis, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews.

5626 Louise Greenwell Stansberry passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013.
Louise was born on June 6, 1922, in the Dry Hill Community of Johnson County to Roderic Randolph and Glenn Smith Greenwell. She was a proud graduate of Watauga Academy, located in the town of Old Butler. Louise attended the Elizabethton School of Business, where she graduated in 1944.
She married Daniel Lawson (D.L.) Stansberry on October 25, 1945. D.L. preceded her in death on March 2, 2000. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Dale and wife, Nell Greenwell, R.H. and wife, Juanita Greenwell, Bernice and husband, Park Stout, Opal Greenwell Boling; nephews, Charles Greenwell and Sam Greenwell; and niece, Norma Lea Knight.
She is survived by her son, Dan and wife, Sharon Hall Stansberry; her grandson, Daniel III and wife, Cindy Miles Stansberry; her great-grandson, Miles Daniel; and her great granddaughter, Lawson Elizabeth.
She took great pride in her family and enjoyed telling stories of her childhood. Louise maintained a joy for life and cherished each moment she shared with Daniel and Cindy and her great-grandchildren, Miles and Lawson.
Louise is survived by nephews, Everette Boling and wife, Lois, Randy Stout and wife, Joan, Dean Stout and wife, Emma, Joseph Greenwell and wife, Jill, and Robert Friese and wife, Annette. Nieces, Patricia Dove, Cheri Greenwell and husband, Ken Richey, and Bonnie Gardner and husband, Richard; a first cousin, Bitha Luster; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Plaster; also survive.
Louise was an adopted grandmother to the family of Leota Letterman; Steve and Leslie Letterman and their children Kason, Kenley and Kielee; and Janet and Jeff Hartman and their children, Hunter and Hayden.
She and D.L. operated a store in the Piney Grove section of Johnson City for more than thirty years, where they formed many lasting friendships. After leaving the farm life of her childhood in Johnson County, Louise returned to farming when she and D.L. purchased land and began breeding Angus cattle in the late 1960s.
Louise was a person of great faith and a devoted member of Telford United Methodist Church. She loved working with young people and was known as a prayer warrior by her church family and friends. She was blessed with a positive outlook on life, a wonderful sense of humor, and a spirit of encouragement. Louise was a loyal friend and was blessed with many friends over her 91 years.
Friends are invited to meet her family and share their memories on Sunday, September 15, between 3:00 and 5:00 and stay for Louise's memorial service following visitation.
Her graveside service will be conducted at Monte Vista Cemetery at 10:00 Monday morning. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Collins, Marvin Grindstaff, Don Malone, Steve Letterman, Jeff Hartman, John Stone, Herman Tester, Max Williams, Troy Arnold, Mark Foster, Conley Dockery and the members of the Board of Directors of Watauga Academy Alumni Association.
The family would be honored to receive a note sharing a favorite memory of Louise.

5627 Louise Higgins Sellars, 90, of 1615 Crystal Springs Drive, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2020.

An Erwin native, Mrs. Sellars had lived in Johnson City since 1963. Most folks will remember her from her twenty-six years as a receptionist at the Johnson City Eye Clinic.

She was also an active member of Central Baptist Church where she was a member of the Esther Sunday School class.

Mrs. Sellars was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, E.C. Sellars, in 2008; her parents, Floyd and Rosetta Higgins; a sister, Ruth Clouse; brother, Ralph V. Higgins, as well as an infant brother, Paul Higgins.

Survivors include children, Douglas K. Sellars and wife Billie Farthing, and Perry E. Sellars, both of Johnson City; three nephews also survive.

5628 Louise Holman Guy, 97, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2022, at her residence. Louise was born May 5, 1925 in Avery County, N.C., to the late William Reece Holman and Loretta Pearl Blackburn Holman. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her son, Donald Edward Guy; two brothers, Howard Holman and Edward Holman; and four sisters, Virginia Maude Holman, Georgia Scott, Ina Ruth Byrd and Emma Jean Blevins.
Louise retired from the Carter County Health Department where she had worked as a clerk and dental assistant for over 30 years. Louise was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church and enjoyed cooking, canning, quilting, crafting and her family was her greatest joy!
Those left to cherish Louise’s many wonderful memories include her children, Patsy Holtsclaw, Glenn R. Guy and wife Betty Jane, Kenneth E. Guy and wife Zelma, Betty S. Vaughn and Elizabeth Guy; her grandchildren, Kelly Holtsclaw, Keith Holtsclaw, Keri Holtsclaw Miller, Chris Guy and wife Debbie, Missy Guy, Brian Guy, Scott Guy, Travis Guy, Shane Vaughn and Tracy Vaughn; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Shirley Smith and husband Sidney. 5629 Louise Markland Deloach, 88, Walker Street, Elizabethton, went to be with her
Heavenly Father Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in the Johnson City Medical Center
after a brief illness.

Mrs. Deloach was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late
Charlie and Bertha Jordan Markland. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Lester "Buck" Deloach, two brothers, Floyd
and Harry Markland, and a sister, Carrie Markland. Mrs. Deloach retired from
the Bemberg Corporation. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church
and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Sue and Terry McKinney and
Genia Jenkins, all of Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Mary
Deloach, Elizabethton; three brothers, Bobby Joe Markland and Ed Markland,
both of Elizabethton, and Howard Markland, Flushing, Mich.; a sister, Janelle
Nidiffer, Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Opal Deloach, Elizabethton; six
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a
very special friend, Lola Eller.

Funeral services for Mrs. Deloach will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, March
18, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Cecil "Nick" Bradshaw and Rev. Elmer

5630 Louise McKinney Heaton, born July 16, 1925 passed away Dec. 27, 2018 at Lakebridge Health Care Center, Johnson City, TN after a long battle with heart disease and dementia.

Shortly after graduation from Cloudland High School she married the love of her life Harry E. Heaton and became a homemaker. She resided in Roan Mountain, TN until the death of her husband in 2007. She resided in Johnson City, TN until her death.

She was of the United Methodist faith and attended Roan Mountain UMC and Cherokee UMC. She loved to sing and continued to do so until her illness prevented it.

She was the daughter of the late Gurney Arthur McKinney and the late Flossie Graybeal McKinney. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son Joseph Heaton, siblings Delaney McKinney, Jack McKinney and Geraldine McKinney Watson and an infant sister, Elizabeth McKinney.

She is survived by children, Patsy Heaton Barnett (Don) of Johnson City, TN; H. Randy Heaton of Roan Mountain, TN; daughter-in-law, Helen Talmadge of Rock Hill, SC; Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Aaron (Kelli) Barnett, Rachel Barnett, Sterling Heaton, Sarah Blalock (Patrick), Madison Heaton and Rachel Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Greer Barnett, Ella Rose Barnett and Haven Ramsey.

5631 Louise Moody Main, 84, of Butler, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Dallas and Martha White Moody.

Louise was a graduate of Hampton High School. She was a substitute teacher with the Carter County School System for 46 years. She was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar R. Main, and two brothers, Herbert and D.L. Moody.

Survivors include a son, Edwin Farrell Main and his fiancé Carolyn Stout, Butler; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Kay Moody, Bobby and Sue Moody and Jim and Patsy Moody, all of Butler; and her sisters-in-law, Kay Graham Moody, Elizabethton, Edith Finney and Stella Tester, both of Elizabethton, and Mary Jo Laws and husband H.D. “Sonny,” Butler. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hillview Health Center and the staff of ICU at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

She was born September 28, 1949 in Watauga County, a daughter of Alice Snyder Potter and the late Rom B Potter.

She was a homemaker and former activities director at Glenbridge Health Care and attended Faith Baptist Church in Boone.

Survivors include her husband, R D Canter, two daughters, one son, one granddaughter, her mother, Alice Snyder Potter, seven sisters and four brothers. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and one uncle.

Louise Standifer Grindstaff, 70, 164 Grindstaff Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at Pine Ridge Health Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Letcher County, Ky., she was the daughter of Anna Pierce Collins, Elizabethton, and the late Clyde Standifer. Mrs. Grindstaff was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Crawford Grindstaff, in 1982; two sisters: Pauline Odom and Helen Phillips; seven half-sisters, one half-brother, and her stepfather, George Collins. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include one son and daughter-in-law: Joey and Judy Grindstaff; one half-sister, Edra Mays, Indiana; one step-brother and sister-in-law, J.L. and Edna Collins, Elizabethton; one step-sister, Cora Glover, Ohio; two special grandchildren: Shanda and Stephanie Grindstaff, Elizabethotn; one nephew, Wayne Odom, of the home; one nephew and his wife, Rodney and Betty Odom, Jonesborough; one great-niece and her husband, Misty and Nathan Whitburn; one special cousin and her husband, Pauletta and Lawrence Pierce, Elizabethton; and two nieces: Sondra Foutch and Yvonda McInturff, Elizabethton. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Stansberry; sisters: Cleona Plummer, Juanita Cress and Marie Kline and brothers: Millard Fletcher, Spencer Fletcher and Dorsey Fletcher.

Louise was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

She grew up farming and really enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers. She also worked at Leco/Levi's and Mountain City Care Center. She was known for her words of wisdom. She loved her church, her family and especially her granddaughters.

5635 Louise W. McKinney, 89, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Louise was born in Mitchell County, N.C., to the late A. and Bonnie Pittman Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Erby McKinney, on November 19, 2003; a grandson, Chad Grindstaff; and a brother, Lane Ward.
Louise retired from the Carter County School System as a bus driver and was a member of Doe River Baptist Church. She loved her church and her church family. She was a volunteer at Hale's Ministry and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Carolyn Duszak, of Elizabethton, Barbara Grindstaff, of Gray, and Debbie Radford, of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Crystal Grindstaff, of Elizabethton, Scotty Radford and Michelle Radford, both of Johnson City, Nick Kennedy and Vanessa Kennedy, both of Hampton; adopted granddaughter, Teresa Reagan, of Elizabethton; adopted son, David Flythe, of Gray; granddaughter, Jill Grindstaff Street, of Hampton; and two great-granddaughters, Renee Radford, of Johnson City, and Olivia Tester, of Hampton.

Loveta loved being outdoors and working in her flowers beds and garden. She also loved to sew and cook. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Tipton retired from the Unicoi County school system after 15 years of service. He attended Pathway Free Will Baptist Church.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Willie C. and Arthie Dinsmore Williams.
Mr. Williams had lived in Adrian, Mich., for a number of years where he retired from the Ford Motor Company. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Williams was of the Baptist faith.

5643 Loyd Dean Lunceford, age77, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. He was born on December 2, 1942 in Butler, TN to the late Loyd Dana Lunceford and Sophie Retha Heaton Lunceford.

Dean was a hard worker and smiled all the time. He loved to farm and work with all his neighbors. Dean was a story teller and loved to tell stories from the past.

Dean is survived by his sisters, Wanda Brown and Geneva Clawson, brother, Royce Lunceford, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

5644 Loyd W. McEwen, age 90, of North Church St, Mountain City, passed away the evening of Friday December 16, 2022 at his home. Loyd was born September 12, 1932 to the late Walsy G. McEwen and Willa G. Nave McEwen in Johnson County, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Lee Johnson McEwen; sister, Jewel “Sis” Lewis; brothers, Mark McEwen and Hiram McEwen.

Loyd was a graduate of Johnson County High School and East Tennessee State University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and participated in numerous submarine dives, including one the world’s first operational nuclear-powered submarine the USS Nautilus.

Loyd W. McEwen was hired with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the 1960s. During his tenure, he held the roles of a Consumer Safety Officer/Inspector in the States of Ohio and North Carolina and Supervisory Consumer Safety Officer/Direct First Line Supervisor in the State of Virginia. It was in 1976 when Loyd applied and was selected as FDA's first ever Direct First Line Supervisor to be stationed at the FDA Richmond, VA Resident Post. As such, he was instrumental in strengthening cooperative Federal State Relations, particularly with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Loyd was an outstanding supervisor that went above and beyond in caring for the mission of the agency and his employees. Loyd strongly believed in training and providing detailed guidance to the employees he hired and supervised. He made sure that the employees understood what having a balanced work life meant with family even though he would work you greater than 8 hours. Loyd had high expectations of his employees and would do anything for anyone that he worked with for career development.

In 1993, Loyd was honored to receive the FDA Award of Merit, the agency's highest form of personal recognition. He earned this award for always going above and beyond as a Direct First Line Supervisor and cherished it until his retirement in Jan. 1999.

When he was able he enjoyed growing a garden. Loyd spent a lot of time talking to people and especially his North Church St. Mountain City, TN friends and neighbors.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Tonda McEwen (Adam) and Susan Johnson (Clyde); grandchildren, Shelby Hayes, April Hayes, Jamie Hayes and Willa Campen; sisters-in-law; Amelia McEwen, Jean McEwen and Carolyn Adams; several nieces and nephews; cousins, Haggard, James, and Charles McEwen; special caregivers, Marie, Tammy, Jeraldine (of Richmond) , the late Dora Adamsand many others past and present.

5645 Loyd Wilmer Blankenbeckler, age 89 and better known as Brownie, passed away on October 8, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.

Brown was born June 13, 1929 in Mountian City, TN to the late Marion and Chloe (Mullis) Blankenbeckler. In addition to his parents, Brownie was preceded in death by his three brothers and three sisters.

Brownie worked millwrighting for many years. He loved music and was a gifted guitar player and had a band in his early years. Brownie was a United States Air Force Veteran.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Osborne Blankenbeckler, sister, Wilma Henley, sister-in-law, Francis Blankenbeckler, both of Johnson City, TN, sons, Roger Blankenbeckler and wife Charlene, granddaughter, Miranda, great granddaughter, Ava, son, David Blankenbeckler and wife Christi, granddaughters, Whitney and Logan.

It was Brownie's wish to be cremated and that no formal service be held.

5646 Lt. Col. (ret.) Floyd H. Bowers USAF (Retired), age 88, of Division Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at his residence following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George T. and
Essie Stout Bowers. Lt. Col. Bowers retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years of service. He was a combat veteran serving during WWII, flying in B-17 and B- 24's. He was awarded several WWII combat ribbons and the Air
Force Commendation Medal. Lt. Col Bowers also served during the Korean Conflict. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel with a B-52 crew.

Mr. Bowers was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton.

He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, and received his B.S. degree from Milligan College in 1941, and his Masters degree from the University of Tennessee in 1949. Mr. Bowers had his first teaching job at Horseshoe Dam,
Carter County. He taught at Tennessee Technology School at Elizabethton, Happy Valley High School, Elizabethton High School, Hampton High School, and T.A Dugger Jr. High School. Mr. Bowers was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge
#238 F&AM, and was a Shriner, and a member of the Jericho Temple. He is preceded in death by a brother, William A. Bowers.

The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brent Seals officiating. The eulogy will be presented by Mr. Edward Bowers. Music will be

George was graduate of Boones Creek High School and attended E.T.S.U. before receiving his B.S. Degree in Business from Steed College.

He worked for the U.S. Government Department of the Army as a Military Technician, retiring in 1992 with over thirty-five years of service.

George was a U.S. Army veteran as well, serving his country during the Korean War. Following his discharge from active duty, he continued to serve in Army Reserves and National Guard, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel with over forty years of service in the armed forces. He then served fifteen additional years with the Tennessee State Guard.

George was a member of Snow Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over forty years, and a member of the Retired Officers Association.

He loved being in and around water, especially Boone Lake, where he enjoyed boating and water skiing, and loved teaching others how to ski.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, James William “Jay” Boy, and two sisters, Daris Boy Martin and Betty Ann Boy.

He is survived by his wife of over fifty-three years, Laura Denny Boy; three sons, George Robert “Robby” Boy and fiancé Sharon, Chris E. Boy, and Jonathan K. Boy, all of Boones Creek; one sister, Joyce Boy Hamilton, Bristol; three grandchildren, Jacob Robertson Boy and Sophia Elizabeth Boy, both of Simpsonville, SC, Dylan Lynn Boy, White Pine; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, February 2, 2020, at 5:00 P.M, from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Tim Adkins, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00-5:00 P.M. in the funeral home parlor. The graveside committal service will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard and members of the Tennessee Army National Guard.

Pallbearers will be Jason Poteat, Chris Widener, Gerald green, Tony Slaughter, Jeff Shipley and Jeff Larimer.

ELIZABETHTON - Lt. Col. Louis H. "Mac" McElroy, USAF (Retired), age 72, 419 West F. Street, Elizabethton, died Thursday, January 12, 2006, at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Asheville, NC, living in Elizabethton since 1992, he was the son of the late Louis H. McElroy Sr. and Frances Brackett McElroy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Edward McElroy. Mr. McElroy was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the USAF, retiring after forty years of service and he served during the Korean conflict. He was in the honor guard six years under President Dwight D. Eisenhower's administration. He was an active member of the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce, the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club and a former Chaplain of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom, VFW Post #2166. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Barbara Heaton McElroy, of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law: Pamala and Eric Litz, Tallassee, FL, and Debra McElroy, Boston, MA; three granddaughters: Amy Litz and husband, Scott Lato, Tallassee, FL, Rebecca Litz, Atlanta, GA, and Grace McElroy, Boston, MA; one sister, Dorothy Sanders, Hendersonville, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive. A celebration of life service for Mr. McElroy will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2006, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 PM Sunday prior to the service or at the residence 419 West F. Street at anytime. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Eric Lutz, Scott Lato, Richard Estep, Greg Bowers, Jerry Cannon and Jason Cannon. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Holden, Don Tetrick, Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Dr. Jeff Farrow, Jeff Fenvyus, Richard Grindstaff, Dr. Theodore Bouchard and many other special friends.

5649 LTC Dean Smith Blevins, RA, CRST, 83, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, from his residence, following an extended illness. Dean was born in Elizabethton to the late Frank and Edna Davis Blevins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John A. and Cora Davis of Butler, Tenn., and his paternal grandparents, Quinton and Callie Sue Blevins of Ashe County, N.C.
Dean was a 1953 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a graduate of ETSU, Class of 1958, where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He retired from the United States Army after 24 years of service. Dean served two years in Vietnam as a Second Lieutenant Field Artillery, Battery D 330 Guard. He also served in the Tennessee National Guard from July 1953 to August 1958 and worked at the Pentagon for four years. He was a graduate of several military schools, including the Army Commander, General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and served in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri and Bemberg, Germany. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star for service of Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star of Valor also in the Oak Leaf Cluster. Dean had also worked as a realtor for both Shell and Associates and Russ Swanay. He was widely known as the Elizabethton Flag Man.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Carol Robinson Blevins, of the home; two sons, Kurt Blevins (Lane) of North Carolina and Thomas Blevins of Fairfax, Va.; a step-daughter, Catherine Stewart (Brad) of Florida; his grandchildren, T.J. Blevins, Brittany Blevins, Catherine Blevins, Smith Blevins and Harrison Blevins; one great-grandchild, Jade Blevins; and his special family, Joey and Pam Nave, Jessica and Linkin Hopson, Hunter and Glenna Nave and Diane and Warren Childress and family.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of LTC Dean Smith Blevins, RA, CRST will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 22, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Greg Key, minister, and Pastor Kenny Lethcoe officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kenny and Kathy Lethcoe. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 until 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Campbell, Glenn McQueen, Terry Pierce, Richard "Jarfly" Dugger, Luther McKeehan and Joey Nave. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:20 p.m. Monday.

5650 Lucille Courtner Lowe Hodge, 86, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
A native of old Butler, she was a daughter of the late Robert Allen "R.A." and Mattie Mae Neatherly Courtner.
Lucille attended Watauga Academy, graduated from Hampton High School and graduated from Tri Cities Beauty College in Johnson City. She also attended East Tennessee State College for three years. Lucille was a member of Zion Baptist Church since 2008 and a former member of Butler Baptist Church for 64 years. She was a member of Butler Chapter #218 Order of Eastern Star for 66 years going in January 3, 1952.
Lucille was owner and operator of Lucille's Beauty Shop in Butler for 15 years, employed at Johnson County Hospital in Mountain City for 15 years, and also employed at North American Rayon Corporation in Elizabethton and Northeast Correctional Center in Mountain City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, Henry Lowe, the father of her children, M.E. Cardwell and Clyde Hodge; a daughter, Rita Lowe Stephens, Griffin, Ga.; three sisters, Chloe Lipford, Vernell Cable Boling and Frances Courtner; and three brothers, Paul, Howard and Earl Courtner.
Survivors include her daughter, Nioka Lowe Markland and husband, David; a son, Michael Allen Lowe, Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Stephanie White Campbell, and two great-granddaughters, Savannah Riley and Alexandria Marie Campbell, all of Taylors, S.C.; her special step-daughter, Helen Renfro and husband Gene, Johnson City; one special step-grandson, Gene Renfro and wife Katie, Johnson City; several nieces and great-nephews, including one special niece, Carolyn Wood, Concord, Tenn.
Funeral services for Lucille Courtner Lowe Hodge will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. D. Alan King, Dr. James Richardson and Rev. Sherrill Nave officiating. Music will be provided by the Zion Baptist Church Choir, her daughter, Nioka Markland, Jean Osborne and Jennifer Hughes, pianists. Interment will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel Wood officiating. Active pallbearers will be Teddy Greenwell, Jerry Lyons, Harry Pierce, Gene Renfro, Willie McVay and Freddy Julian. Honorary pallbearers will be her church families at Zion Baptist Church and Butler Baptist Church, members of Butler Chapter #218 Order of Eastern Star and her many friends in the Butler Community. A Masonic Service will follow the funeral service by Butler Chapter #218, Order of Eastern Star.
