5351 KINGSPORT - Edward Eugene Bombailey, 65, of 4113 Clearview Street, passed away Wednesday (July 24, 2002) at his home following a brief illness.

Mr. Bombailey was a life long resident of Hawkins and Sullivan Counties and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Starnes and Gertie Thacker Bombailey, one grand-daughter, Angie Fleenor, two brothers, Tilman and Billy Ray Bombailey.

He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Bombailey, Gabriel and Michelle Bombailey, all of Kingsport; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Fleenor, Church Hill; Teresa and Stonach Daniell, Shelia Bombailey, all of Kingsport; Merita and Tommy Browder, Hilton, Virginia; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Bombailey and Howard Bombailey both of Church Hill; four sisters, Mattie Hensley and Norma Jean Marshall both of Church Hill; Louise Goins, Chattanooga, TN; and Faye Greene, Baltimore, Maryland; several nieces and nephews and many friends and special long time friends, Jody, Joyce and David Sloan.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of his daughter, Teresa Daniell, 4113 Clearview Street.

Services will be conducted Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Browder officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Elm Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Browder, David Browder, Robby Thompson, Shane Daniell, Mike Bombailey and David Sloan.

Honorary bearers will be David and Darrell Greene.

5352 KINGSPORT - Florence Docia Crowe Robinette, 86, of Kingsport, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 27, 2021. Throughout the day and night, Florence was surrounded by her family including all her children and grandchildren. She passed peacefully holding hands with the love of her life, husband Don, and her granddaughter Abby.

Florence, the 7th of ten siblings, was born on June 10, 1935 in Dennis Cove, Hampton, Tennessee to May Belle Barnett Crowe and Ernest Crowe. Florence and Donald (Don) Robinette were married on March 28, 1959 and recently happily celebrated their 62nd and one-half anniversary. She was an active member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church and enjoyed helping with the food pantry on Saturdays. Florence attended Beauty School in Kingsport and owned Florence’s Beauty Salon for over 50 years. She enjoyed washing, cutting, perming, coloring, and fixing hair for all her many customers and family. She best enjoyed talking and sharing memories with everyone.

Florence is preceded in death by her parents, May Belle and Ernest; her brothers Jim, Harold, and Carl; her sisters Marie and Jane; and her beloved Aunts Ruby and Trudy.

Left to cherish Florence’s memories, especially her delicious and much requested macaroni and cheese and cheesy potato casserole, are her loving husband Don; son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Camille Robinette of Salisbury, NC; her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Jasen Wells of Kingsport, TN; and five grandchildren who was their dearly loved Mammaw - C.J. Wells (Kelsey), Jayna Gabriel (Jon), and Abigail, Zachary, and Alexander Robinette. She was also blessed with one great grandson, Caden Jack Wells. Florence is also survived by two sisters Shirley and Edith and two brothers Alfred (Phyllis) and Bea (Patsy)

A funeral service for the family will be held at 2pm at East Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens with Pastors Ray Amos and Michelle Malcolm officiating. A private family graveside service will follow. Pallbearers are family members Bryan, Zachary, and Alexander Robinette, Jasen and C.J. Wells, and Jon Gabriel.

The family would like to thank all the many friends who checked in on Florence and Don. A special thank you is extended to Avalon Hospice, Holston Manor, and East Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens for all the care, kindness, and compassion given to both Florence and Don. The family is also very grateful to one special lady, Rhonda Kilgore, who was both a friend and caretaker. May Florence’s memories be cherished in our minds and always in our hearts.

5353 KINGSPORT - Grace C. Stelzer, 90, of 110 Thomas Street, passed away Friday, (November 22, 2002) at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Stelzer was a native of Butler, Tennessee and lived in Florida for several years before moving to Kingsport 20 years ago. She was a member of McPheeters Bend Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Stelzer, her parents, Ezra and Fronnie Cable Cowan, grandson, John S. Arnold, sisters, Roxie Greenwell, Flossie Dean, Georgia Anderson, Hazel Dugger and Lucy Snyder, brothers, Ronda Cowan, Wiley Cowan, Von Ray Cowan and Smith Cable.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jerry Arnold, Church Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Beverly Stelzer, Cooper City, Florida; three grandchildren, Jessica Arnold, Kim Cangialosi and husband, Joey; Heather Badami and husband, Tony; two great grandchildren, Tabitha Cangialosi and Tara Cangialosi.

5354 KINGSPORT - Hilda L. “Rita” Farthing, 96, of Kingsport passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Farthing was born in Cardiff, Wales, and she grew up there. She met the love of her life, William J. Farthing, during World War II when he was stationed in Cardiff while serving in the U.S. Army. They were married in 1945 in Cardiff, and she came to the US in 1946. Mrs. Farthing became an American Citizen in the 1960’s; as well, as obtaining her nursing degree. She loved being a nurse, and her daughter, Carol Lane, and granddaughter, Michelle Lane, followed her into the nursing profession. She was most proud of assisting Dr. Joseph Smiddy in establishing the fiberoptic bronchoscopy room at Holston Valley Medical Center, including giving the various scopes Welsh names. Prior to becoming a nurse, Mrs. Farthing was known for her skills as a seamstress. Her daughters and her daughter’s dolls were known for having the best and most stylish wardrobes in the neighborhood.

When her children were young, she taught Sunday school at Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member for 60 years until her death. Mrs. Farthing was a Girl Scout leader, she enjoyed reading, playing the piano and enjoyed traveling across the United States with her family, from California to Maine and beyond. She loved her adopted country dearly.

Mrs. Farthing was devoted to her pets: a mischievous cocker spaniel named Charles and a rescued silky terrier with an attitude named Cricket. Both predeceased Mrs. Farthing.

After her retirement at the age of 70, she was a volunteer at Friends In Need.

In addition to her husband of 64 years, William Farthing, she was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Gatheridge and Florence Gatheridge; her daughter, Carol Lane; her only grandchild, Anthea Michelle Lane; nine brothers and sisters, Sidney Gatheridge, Edna Brown, Molly Dixon, Nancy Pond, Albert Gatheridge, Elsie Walton, Anthony Gatheridge, Rita Lindsay, and Peter Gatheridge.

Those left to cherish Mrs. Farthing’s memory are her daughters, Linda Jane Farthing, of the home, and Billie Jo Farthing and husband, Douglas Sellars, of Johnson City; many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 13, 2021, in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Joshua Swanson officiating.

A Graveside Service will follow in the Masonic Garden of Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

5356 KINGSPORT - Jerry D. McGhee, 77, of Kingsport passed away peacefully on November 21, 2021, at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Jerry was a resident of Gray, Tennessee and a life-long native of Washington County, Tennessee.

He was a long-time employee of Flav-O-Rich Dairies and Dean Foods having worked in refrigeration and is well known for his services to many people in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. His legacy in refrigeration, and his love for his friends leaves a true legacy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda in 2016; parents, C.Y. "Cap" McGhee and Kathleen Tittle McGhee; siblings, Grace Bishop, Hughie McGhee, Florence Tucker, Anna Lee Tucker, Dessie Weaver, Harold McGhee, Basil McGhee, John B. McGhee and Tommy McGhee

5357 KINGSPORT - John S. Nave, age 98, of Kingsport, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, after a brief illness. A native of Unicoi County, John is a son of the late Isaac Clinton and Nannie Saylor Nave. He graduated from Boones Creek High School. John served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. After his return from the war, he returned to work at Eastman and farmed for 20 years, after which he continued working at Eastman until his retirement. He loved to dance and fish. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by wife, Wilburn Kate Nave, in February 2021, brother, Reverend Dr. Lester D. Nave and sisters, Gladys Nave Matheson and Helen Nave Grills.

John S. Nave leaves behind to cherish his memory: 10 loving Nieces and Nephews.

5358 KINGSPORT - Mamie Giles, age 98, of Kingsport, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late David and Sarah Elizabeth Price Grindstaff. Mrs. Giles was a charter member of Clifton View Baptist Church, but had been attending Johnson City Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from Magnavox. Mrs. Giles was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Giles was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Giles, July 1991; eight siblings, Louise Head, Charles Grindstaff, Nola Grindstaff, Susan Britt, Ray Grindstaff, Dewey Grindstaff, Frank Grindstaff, and Minnie G. Whitson.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Rogers, Surgoinsville, TN, Debbie Fagan, Kingsport, Robyn Hawkins, Johnson City; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.

The family visitation for Mrs. Giles will be conducted from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home with the funeral service following in the East Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating and the eulogy presented by great granddaughter Mary Ann Riddle.

The graveside service and internment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Christopher Lane, Marty Lane, Marcus Riddle, Bill Riddle, Lee Carter, Dana Rogers, III, and Jeffrey Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Gabe Matthew Millard, Mike Fletcher, and Gary Gilley.

5359 KINGSPORT - Margaret Pollard, 93, of Kingsport has gone to sleep in Jesus on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at her home. Born in Campbell County, Tennessee and raised in Elizabethton, she later moved to Kingsport. Margaret then went to work at Copeland Office Equipment with her sister and brother-in-law, where she met her husband Gregory. Her passion was the business and customers. Margaret was born of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory R. Pollard; two sisters, Nannie Joe Ritchie and Blanche Pauline Copeland; and two brothers, A.E. Miller, and H.K. Miller.

Margaret is survived by her son, Scott Pollard and wife Cathy of Kingsport; grandchildren, Ben Pollard and Anna Pollard; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. James Pollock officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.

5360 KINGSPORT - Maude Elizabeth (Ellis) Smith entered into eternal rest during the early morning hours of Wednesday (October 18, 2017) surrounded by her loving family.

Maude was born on February 12, 1934 to the late Edgar & Nina Lee (Hackler) Ellis in Hawkins County, TN. Maude attended Church Hill High School and Hiwassee College. She was a former member of Grange Hall United Methodist Church, where she was saved as a young girl. Maude was a current member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving wife, and Grandmom. Her favorite things in life were her grandchildren, family, friends, hummingbirds, and flowers.

In addition to her parents, Maude was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Curtis Ellis, James Ellis, and Lynn Ellis; sister, Frances (Ellis) Carpenter; and her infant son.

Maude is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Homer Smith, with whom she built a beautiful family with two daughters, Janie (Milt) Corley and Pamela (Charles) Bailey; four grandchildren, Gary (Jenna) Hylton, Craig Lenoir, Jennifer (Garth) Grause, and Rachael Corley; several step-grandchildren; two great-grandsons, Jaxson and Isaiah Hylton; brother, Lee (Evelyn) Ellis; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday (October 22, 2017) from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Ellis and Pastor Robert Burlingham officiating. A private committal service will be held in the Garden of Memories at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Colonial Heights United Methodist Church (631 Lebanon Road, Kingsport, TN 37663).

5361 KINGSPORT - Mr. Charles “Yates” Baird, age 78, Kingsport, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Orchard View Rehab Center.

Mr. Baird was born in Carter County and the son of the late John Frederick & Letha Ann Yates Baird. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Garst Baird.

He was a United States Air Force Veteran.

Mr. Baird was a retired mechanic for the Kingsport Press.

Survivors include his wife, Jewett Murphy Baird, Kingsport; son, Robbie Baird and wife Laurel; stepchildren, Rhonda Ragsdale and husband Ed and Rosa Corby and husband Lee; grandchildren, Camden and Braxton Gray; sisters, Peggy, Patsy and Betty.

Graveside services will be conducted 12, Noon, Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Maple Lawn Cemetery with Pastor John H. Moore officiating. Family and friends are requested to meet at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home at 11:45 am to go in procession to the cemetery.

5362 KINGSPORT - Mr. Gary Douglas McKamey, age 74, Kingsport, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Brookdale Senior Living.

Mr. McKamey was born October 1, 1946 in Hendersonville, NC. He graduated from Mary Hughes High School, Piney Flats in 1964. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University in 1968 and his Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1974.

He joined the U.S. Navy in January 1969 during the Vietnam War. During his three months of bootcamp at Lake Champlain, IL, he was a member of the Navy Honor Guard Rifle Team. Following bootcamp, he was stationed at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, where he served four years as a Radioman onboard P-3 Orion Anti-Submarine Warfare airplanes – acquiring over 2000 hours of flight time.

Following his Naval service, Mr. McKamey taught science at Park Hall Elementary and Margaret Brent Middle School in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. He was also a small business entrepreneur for many years. He retired from his successful and rewarding teaching career in 2004.

Mr. McKamey was the son of the late Kyle & Mary Elizabeth Massengill McKamey of Piney Flats. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charles Oliver. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sean & Patricia McKamey; grandchildren, Caelan and Theodore McKamey; Sean’s mother, Judy Walser McKamey; sister, Janie Oliver; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services will be held on July 13, 2021, and Mr. McKamey will be interned at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

5363 KINGSPORT - Our patriarch, Charles Stanley O'Dell, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away May 29, 2019.

Born September 13, 1947 in Bristol, Virginia, he was the son of the late Virginia Frances Edens and Charles Henry O'Dell. He completed his B.S. degree in chemistry at King College before joining the U.S. Navy, where he served as a medical corpsman at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, during the Vietnam War. He then received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from American University in Washington, DC, where he relished cycling expeditions up to 100 miles for exercise and relaxation. He traveled throughout Europe during his post-doctoral studies in England, where he became a lifelong fan of Premier League soccer and the Newcastle United Magpies.

Following his distinguished career at the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, DC, where his work included addressing safety issues related to nuclear waste storage, he retired to Kingsport. He fulfilled his dream of living on Patrick Henry Lake and enjoying his favorite pursuits of golf, fishing, and a passion for watching sports, especially his Magpies.

A devoted, loving and cherished companion and surrogate father and grandfather, he is survived by long-time life partner Jane Tyler Cushman, her son Jason Castagna (Samantha) and grandsons Cole Castagna and Dane Castagna of Carlsbad, California; his sister, Lynn O'Neal (Dennis) of Bristol, TN, with whom he was extraordinarily close; his niece Sherri Lynn Brown (Shaun) and his adored great niece, Adalyn Brown, of Buffalo, NY; numerous cousins; and a multitude of friends.

Ever the scientist, Dr. O'Dell donated his body to medical science.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, at his family's church, Central Holston Christian Church, 261 Sandbar Road, Bristol, TN. A memorial service and inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date.

5364 KINGSPORT - Ruby Moody Davenport, 86, died Tuesday at Church Hill Healthcare and Rehab Center in Church Hill. Mrs. Davenport is survived locally by a daughter, Jackie Brandon Fritts of Bulls Gap. She was born in the Indian Springs community of Kingsport, where she had lived most of her life. Mrs. Davenport was a member of First Christian Church, the Loyal Matrons Sunday School Class, and also attended Kingsley United Methodist Church. She retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Environmental Services. She was the widow of R. B. Brandon, who died in 1967, and O.D. Davenport, who died in 1992. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by three stepdaughters: Betty Kelly of Knoxville, Linda Davis of Kingsport, and Phyllis Simmons of Matthews, N.C.; three stepsons: Leonard Davenport of Kingsport, Don Davenport of Mount Carmel, and Billy Davenport of Kingsport; four grandchildren: Tony Christian, Carla Dalton, Nicki Christian, and Thelma Fann; eight great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law: Lochiel and Haskell Harr of Kingsport; and two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Campbell and Iris Grimes, both of Kingsport. She was a daughter of the late G.N. and Annie Moody and was preceded in death by a stepson: Willard Davenport; two sisters: Orpha Phillips, Vona Browder, and Leona Pierson; and seven brothers: Leonard Moody, Howard Moody, John Moody, Robert Moody, Thurman Moody, Brady Moody, and Mason Moody. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Emory UM Church. The Rev. 5365 KINGSPORT – James Walter Bunting, 75, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Mountain City on December 3, 1933, to the late Ott and Ina Bunting. He served two years in the U.S. Army. Before his retirement in 1988, he was employed in supervision with the Regional Transit Authority in Cleveland, Ohio.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and on various committees. Mr. Bunting was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He had volunteered for several years with Holston Habitat for Humanity, where he served on the Executive Board for a number of years as the Site Selection Chairman. Mr. Bunting also worked for fourteen years at the Habitat Resale Store.

He was an avid golfer and a gardener who loved sharing his garden with his friends. Mr. Bunting will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends as one who always had a warm smile and a big heart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Barton Bunting; and three sisters, Virginia Snyder, Opal Susi and Kathleen Bunton.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at First Baptist Church on Friday at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Cameron and Dr. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating. The eulogy will be given by Pete Morrisett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Richard and Sylvia Rose Carriger.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon Taylor Carriger; his son, Steve (Jessica) Carriger; his daughter, Stephanie (Ryan) Toney; two most precious grandchildren, Henry and Landry Kate Toney; brothers, Phil (Karyn), Larry and David Carriger; 2 nephews and 3 nieces; several cousins and many good friends.

Steve was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church and of the Gate City Masonic Lodge. He loved woodworking and fishing. He taught in Scott County Schools for more than 30 years.

5367 KINGSPORT — Evelyn Love Starnes, 80, Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Carter County, she had resided most of her life in Kingsport. Evelyn was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, class of 1948, and also from East Tennessee State College, class of 1952, with a degree in physical education.

She worked as a secretary at Holston Defense from 1952-1961, while working there she met and married Patrick H. Starnes from Fort Blackmore, VA, in 1959. Evelyn was a homemaker and a longtime member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Philosophy Sunday School Class. She was an avid sports fan, most particularly the UT Lady Vols.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick H. Starnes; parents, Alfred and Gertrude Love; and brother, Robert Love.

Evelyn is survived by daughter, Sarah S. Delinger and husband, Kevin, of Hyattsville, MD; son, Steven P. Starnes and wife, Lori, of Celina, OH; three grandchildren, Amanda S. Hagedon and husband, Matt, Elizabeth J. Starnes and Peter H. Starnes; two sisters, Mary Jo Allen, of Elizabethton, TN, and Anne Balch of Jefferson City, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 6, 2012, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.

5368 KINGSPORT — Florine "Flo" Baker, age 84, of Kingsport, TN, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

A native of Washington County, TN, she was a daughter of the late Gurney and Elizabeth Fair Trivett. Mrs. Baker was a longtime member of Keystone Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from Shoney's in Johnson City after working for 40 years. She was a loving Momma and Mammaw.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Trivett and Juanita Taylor; one brother, W.E. Trivett; Son-in-law, Paul R. Taylor.

Survivors include her son, Ron Baker, of the home; one daughter, Carolyn Taylor, Kingsport; one brother, Edward Trivett, Camden, SC; one sister, Evelyn Kelly, Johnson City; five granddaughters, Robin Cox, Tammy Birch, Melissa Leach, Sonya Acito, Vivian Taylor, all of Kingsport; Eight Great Grandchildren; one very special niece, Kathy Ray, Gray; Six wonderful Sisters-in-law, Hazel, Edith, Mary Ann, Edna, Jean and Naomi. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Baker will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, from Keystone Freewill Baptist Church, Johnson City, with Rev. Bill Greer, Rev. Ron Bradshaw and Rev. Terry Jones officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 28, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home or other times at the residence.

5369 KINGSPORT — Mary Elza Morley Young, 99 years and 9 months, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 16, 2010, after a brief illness.

Mary was born February 16, 1911, in Johnson County, Tennessee, to Charles and Naomi McQueen Morley.

Mary was a faithful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her Lord, her family and her church dearly.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Sherman Young, in 1980; a son, Earnest Dale Young, in 1952; a daughter-in-law, Betty Young; five sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Phillips and husband, Ron; five sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and wife, Reda, Harold and wife, Della, Tom and wife, Billie, Bill and wife, Grandle, George and wife, Lois. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at Gravelly Baptist Church, 500 Gravely Road.

Services will follow at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor David Salley officiating. Music will be offered by the Gravelly Baptist Church choir.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

She was born in Greene County and lived in Johnson City and Kingsport most of her life. She was of the Presbyterian Faith and worked in the health care field, most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer T. Weaver; her parents, Yancel "Cap" and Kathleen McGhee; sisters, Grace Bishop, Florence Crawford, Anna Lee Tucker; brothers, Hughie, Harold, Basil, John B. and James Leonard McGhee.

Dessie is survived by her three sisters and brothers- in-law, Harold and Wanda Copas, of Kingsport, Joel and Doris Fish, of Gray, Lynice Broyles, of Gray; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Jane McGhee, of Gray and Jerry and Brenda McGhee, of Gray; a special niece, Lou Weaver Nance and husband, Larry, of Kernersville, N.C.; along with several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hale was raised in Elizabethton, Tenn., and was the high school homecoming queen. She attended ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn. She moved to Kinston in 1950 with her husband, Dr. Clarence "Bud" Hale, when he began his career as a dentist at the Caswell Center. She enjoyed going to the beach, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and had a great appreciation of the arts.

She was a Butler, TN, native, a charter member of the Midway Baptist Church, and the daughter of the late O. H. and Pearl Wagner Blackburn. Before moving to Knoxville, she resided in Johnson City for 51 years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, John, as well as three brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. DePew was formerly employed by American Rayon Corporation. She is best remembered for the way she loved and nurtured family and friends in a home whose doors were always open. She was a devout Christian and truly loved the Lord.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mary Ellen was born in Bristol, Virginia to the late Henderson W. McNutt and Zula Draper McNutt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert C. Nidiffer, in 2013; and a brother, Jack McNutt.

Mary Ellen was a member of the First Knoxville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. She retired from Mountain Home Veteran's Hospital in Johnson City. She moved to Knoxville in 1992 with her husband, Robert, to be close to her son's family. She was a loving wife, mother, and "Nana" who took excellent care of her family. She will always be remembered for her kindness and dedication to her Lord.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Robert L. Paul was born in Jenkins, KY to the late Eugene Chalmer and Mary Simandle Bishop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Murray Bishop; brothers, Albert Bishop, Ernest Bishop (Sally) and Chalmer Bishop (Ella Mae).
Paul was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Elizabethton, TN, where he served as Deacon and taught men’s Sunday school class. He retired from Raytheon Company in Bristol, TN with over 37 years’ service as a Mechanical Test Engineer. Paul joined the Army-Air Force in 1947 and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He was a Past Master for the Elizabethton Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM. He also held office in the Grand Lodge in Nashville. His favorite hobbies were leatherwork, reading, puzzles, hunting and camping.

5378 KNOXVILLE — Robert C. Nidiffer, 86, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 in the Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville, following a brief illness.
He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Fusson L. and Anna Lee Adams Nidiffer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Nidiffer was a retired insurance adjuster, having worked at Allstate and was of the Baptist faith. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II and was a member of American Legion Post #49. He was a loving husband and was devoted to his family and he will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife of sixty seven years, Mary Ellen McNutt Nidiffer, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lynn and Cindy C. Nidiffer, Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren, Abby Wilson and husband Jake, Knoxville, TN; and Robby Nidiffer, Chattanooga; one great granddaughter, Halle Lynne Wilson, Knoxville; and one brother, Jessie Smith Nidiffer, Elizabethton. 5379 KNOXVILLE — Deborah Ann Greathouse went home peacefully with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 23, 2022 after a courageous battle with terminal inflammatory breast cancer. She was lovingly surrounded by her daughter Jennifer and the incredible University of Tennessee Hospice Care team who diligently and tirelessly cared for her through the duration of the last months of her illness.
Deborah was born October 7, 1954, and raised as a youngster in Elizabethton, Tenn., and later resided in Atlanta, Ga., San Francisco, Calif., and in Hawaii for much of her adult life. Deborah lived a full and inspirational life. She was a gift to those in need and a compassionate woman who gave tirelessly to others during her own, private lifelong struggle with Crohn’s disease. Deborah went on to earn her B.A. from San Francisco State University and began a career spanning decades. The highlights of her career include working and traveling for McGraw Hill Publishing Company as an executive until her retirement. Her career also included working for a west coast extension of NASA at the Geosat Corporation in San Francisco and she later became a community outreach executive at the ALS Lou Gehrig’s Foundation of San Francisco. She shared her passion tirelessly in caring for and assisting ALS patients and their families. She published caregiving guides and resource manuals for families of ALS and was a strong advocate for community outreach on behalf of the foundation.
Deborah shared her passion for learning and education in her retired years by working as a substitute teacher for her native Tennessee communities where she inspired students with examples of her art and her worldly European and West Coast travels. Deborah was an avid artist and a photographer. Her paintings have been donated and displayed to community centers, churches, and to the many local communities in which she lived. As a photographer, she enjoyed the processing of original dark room film photography and taking pictures of the many landscapes and people she encountered in her travels. Most of all, Deborah was so proud of her loving granddaughter Lauren.
Deborah is survived by her loving daughter Jennifer Blatchley, her granddaughter Lauren Blatchley, her close cousins, Jill DelValle and Jack Frost Jr., and by many cousins, relatives, and friends. Deborah’s family were direct descendants of John Oliver, founder of Cade’s Cove Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her most loving grandparents, Robert and Alice Markland, and by Sophia and William Clay Hardin Sr., along with her parents, William Clay Hardin Jr. and Loretta Jean Davis of Elizabethton, Tenn. She is also recently preceded in death by her aunt, Joan Hardin Sawyer of Atlanta, Ga.
Deborah would like to give a very special thanks to the UT Hospice Care team members including Dr. Cynthia Pearman, charge nurse Crystal Welborne, Nurse Practitioner Jordan Massey, nurse Amanda Mayes, nurse Patrick Moore, and care staff Jane Carter. They worked tirelessly to provide comfort and medical care and they went above and beyond the call of duty. Deborah’s daughter Jennifer would like to especially thank Dr. Cynthia Pearman, who gave the precious gift of time with her mother. Deborah also wants to thank Dr. DeVore and Dr. Shoemaker of the Tennessee Cancer Specialist Center. Special thanks to her dedicated local friends Vishal Sharma and wife Parul Kaushal and neighbor Fadia Alvie for all the love made in every dish of homemade soups with assistance in logistics of helping her maintain a peaceful home environment. Special thanks to Bob Gervasio for the lifelong love shown to her. Special thanks to Donna Hopwood and her staff at 24/7 caregivers for being there in the middle of the night. 5380 Kyle Chester Jones died December 19, 2022 at the age of 85. He was born March 3, 1937 to parents Lois Trivette Jones (d. 2007) and Frederick H. Jones (d. 1986). He was preceded in death by his sister, Taru Jones (d. 1998), and his brother Paul Jones (d. 2008).

Kyle leaves behind daughters Michele Jones Greene and Kyla Jones Sipprell; granddaughters Blake Leggett, Avery Leggett, Cayson Sipprell, Caleigh Sipprell, Jessie Leggett, and Tyler Leggett; sister Paulette Ward and her husband Harold; and several nephews and nieces.

Kyle attended the old Cranberry High School in Avery County and volunteered for service in the United States Navy in January 1955. Kyle served on active duty until January 1958 and was on standby reserve until January 1963. During his active service, Kyle was stationed in Japan for one year.

After leaving active duty, Kyle began college at Appalachian and then transferred to East Carolina, where he graduated from the School of Business in 1963. Initially Kyle worked in Charlotte, where he was lucky enough to meet Sybil Brigman on a blind date in the summer of 1965. He married Sybil the very next year. Michele was born in 1967 and Kyla in 1971. Kyle obtained his Master of Accounting degree at Appalachian and opened his own accounting practice in downtown Boone in the early 1970s. He practiced as a Certified Public Accountant until the late 1990s.

Kyle was a gifted storyteller. He loved to laugh and have a good time, especially with his family out on the mountain where he grew up. Kyle also loved life away from the mountain and pursued many interests during his life. He earned his private pilot license in 1988 and flew regularly for about 10 years. He became certified in scuba diving in the Bahamas in 1991. He took road trips on a Harley Davidson for a few years. He was a proficient square dancer for a while.

Kyle loved to travel and kept photos of his time in Japan his whole life. He visited many areas of the United States and especially loved New Orleans, Las Vegas, California, and Arizona, where he lived for about three years after closing his accounting practice.

From 2001 until his death, Kyle lived primarily back in the Beech Creek area where he was raised. His greatest love as he grew older was cooking and gardening.

Kyle was laid to rest on December 29 in the Beech Valley Church Cemetery beside his parents and near the graves of his sister Taru and brother Paul. Pallbearers were his brother-in-law Harold Ward, nephew Anthony Jones, sons-in-law David Sipprell and Bobby Greene, and friends Jerry Greene and Michael Hicks. Kyle's daughters and six granddaughters were present at his graveside, and each placed a red rose on his casket. It was a beautiful day on the mountain.

Throughout his life, Kyle was loved by many. He will be missed and remembered.

5381 Kyle Edward Hart, Lieutenant Colonel United States Army (Retired), age 83, of Watauga, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 with his beloved wife, Myrna, by his side.

He was the son of the late Roy J. Hart, Sr. and Charlesy Lacy Hart, also of Watauga. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lt. Col. R.J. Hart.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myrna Jean Myers Hart, of the home; his son, Mike and his wife Evelyn Hart, of Watauga; his daughter, Tamara Hart and her husband, Michael Jameson, of Nashville; his grandchildren, David (Afghanistan) and his wife Grace Hart, of New Mexico, Jewel and her husband Bjorn DeBord, of Johnson City, Josh and his wife Megan Leonard, of Chattanooga, Liam Jameson and John Jameson; and great granddaughter, Parsla DeBord. He is also survived by his brother, Stacy and his wife Marty Hart, of Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Audrey Hart; a brother-in-law, Rick and his wife Pam Myers, of Los Angeles; and a sister-in-law, Janice and her husband Bob Bradley, of Myrtle Beach.

Kyle graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1951 and attended East Tennessee State University on a ROTC scholarship, graduating in 1955. He spent 20 years in the United States Army, retiring as a Lt. Col. in 1975. During his time in the Army, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Air Medal (1st – 6th Oak Leaf Clusters) and Master Army Aviator Badge. He was stationed across the globe, including Germany, Korea, Vietnam and Hawaii. After retiring from the Army, he became a State Farm insurance agent, retiring a second time in 1999. During his tour of duty in Hawaii, he received a Master's Degree in Education from Pepperdine University. He earned a second Master's in Education at East Tennessee State University after his retirement from the Army. Never one to sit still too long, he volunteered with SCORE (Counselors to America's Small Business) after his retirement from State Farm, ran 5K races well into his seventies, and loved to entertain family and friends at the family home in Valley Forge.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder, Member and Clerk of the Session, as well as a member of the Finance Committee and Pastor Nominating Committee. He always put his wife and family first and will be remembered by everyone who met him as an honorable and loving man.

A service to honor the life of Kyle Edward Hart will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Dr. Brian Wyatt, officiating. Dr. W. Edward Fine, minister, will provide a prayer. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday; or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 AM on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by a Military Funeral Honor Guard. 5382 LAKE CITY, FL - James Lynn Gentry, Sr., 76, of Lake City, Florida, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019.

He was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to Sherman Hull Gentry and Hazel Lucille Gentry. He was a Science Hill High School class of 1960 graduate and was a plumber/pipefitter/welder by trade. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge F&AM #813 in Blountsville, Tennessee, Scottish Rite and Shriner in Orlando, Florida and Whiteside Lodge #13. He loved watching college sports, especially the Tennessee Vols. He also enjoyed visiting Cocoa Beach and the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, as well as The Cottage in Johnson City, Tennessee. He also enjoyed the company of his beloved dog, Ms. Riley. He was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Lucille Gentry, and his son, James Lynn Gentry, Jr.

He is survived by his wife; Cynthia Gentry from Orlando, Florida; son, Sherman Robert Gentry from Lake City, Florida; daughters, Lisa Light and Luci Bennett of Elizabethton, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Madison, Kullen and Sebastian. Five great-grandchildren and several cousins also survive.

A celebration of life service was held at Mr. Gentry's home in Lake City, Florida with his family and friends. A stand-alone event will be held along-side his son's graveside with family and friends in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

5383 LAKELAND, Fla. — Opal Lee Dunn, age 87, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Mountain City, TN, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012.

She was a daughter of the late William Webster Morefield and Margaret Catherine Furches Morefield. Ms. Dunn was a member of Vaught's Gap Baptist Church and her hobbies included sewing, quilting and needlework.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley J. Dunn; son Willie B. Dunn; grandson, Michael Dunn; sisters: Naomi Wallace, Anna Mae Hackney and Helen Morefield; and brothers: Carroll Morefield, Jasper Morefield and Charles Morefield.

Ms. Dunn is survived by three daughters: Shelby Jean Bailey and husband, Jack, of Lakeland, FL, Amy Henson and husband, Eddie, of Mountain City, TN, and Lora Ann Slemp, of Johnson City, TN; one son: Larry Dunn and wife, Debbie, of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren: Angie Skinner, of Lakeland, FL, Matthew Norris and Bobby Joe Dunn, both of Mountain City, TN, Jamie Dunn and Cody Dunn, both of Richmond, VA, Junior Henson, of Hampton, TN, and Brandon Henson, of Laurel Bloomery, TN; great grandchildren: Kaylea Skinner, Mason Skinner, Elizabeth Norris, Tyler Norris, Paige Norris, Aden Dunn, Elijah Dunn, Elijah Henson and Rylee Henson. Lana was born in Carter County on July 8, 1946, a daughter of the late James and Nina Price Fair. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Alan Walser; two brothers, Kenneth and Steve Fair; and a sister, Billie Jackson.

Lana was a homemaker and was a member of Eastside Free Will Baptist Church since 1976. She loved spending time with her family, cooking for them, shopping and looking at quilts.

5386 Landon Carter was a very staunch supporter of the Union cause, and was one of the most active in Carter County. He took part in the famous bridge burnings, which severely limited the Confederates ability to transport supplies through the eastern Tennessee area. He was the Captain of the Turkeytown Company, and was a marked man by the local Confederate forces. He eluded capture, escaping to Federal lines where he enlisted in the Union Army. He served in Company B, 4th Tennessee Infantry, during 1862-1864, and later was a Captain in Comapny H, 13th Tennessee Cavalry. Larry was born in Carter County, a son of Martha Pritchard Irick, of Elizabethton, and the late Lloyd Glasco Irick. "Rabbit" had worked as a forklift operator for the Robinette Company and was a life-time member of the Elks Lodge. Anthony was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed ginseng hunting and fishing. Anthony also enjoyed watching westerns. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry loved his family and enjoyed camping, deer hunting, and especially eating fried chicken.

He loved sports and was an avid NASCAR and Miami Dolphins fan. He had a laughter that would light up a room. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed going to their ballgames. Larry enjoyed passing time sitting on his front porch. He was a simple man who lived a simple life.

5393 Larry Dean Shoun, 69, Butler, departed from this earth to go to his forever home Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was born July 16, 1949, in Mountain City, and resided in his beloved community of Butler, Tn his entire life. Larry was a graduate of Hampton High School in 1967 where he had a successful football career that earned him a scholarship at Less-McRae College in Banner Elk. His football career continued there for a freshman year. He then attended the National Hardwood Lumber Association Certified Lumber Grader Program. He was a rock, both physically and spiritually. He never faltered in his beliefs or his work ethic. He strived every day to make everything and everyone he touched better than he found it. He always wanted what was best and never failed to do what was right. He was a lover of fellowship with all people and animals, he loved football, good food, giving lectures and traveling with his wife and dear friends Eddie and Pat Clawson. He was the 3rd generation owner and operator of Shoun Lumber which was his life's passion outside of his family. He loved to work at the mill and everything it entailed. Some of his favorite hobbies included hauling and delivering firewood and mulch to customers and delivering hams at Christmas time to friends, neighbors and customers. He would often disappear for hours "playing" on his loader moving his dirt and mulch. He was a member of the Butler Ruritan Club where he had served as President. Larry loved his communities of Johnson & Carter County; he supported local schools in their sports program and supported several organizations. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father George C. Shoun who died August 22, 2008.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years: Deana Grindstaff Shoun. His Children: John Burleson & wife Amanda, Butler, Jill Shoun Hughes & husband Bryan, Johnson City, Katie Shoun Harrell & husband John, Butler and Kelly Shoun, Butler. Five Grandchildren: Conor Burleson, Carson Burleson, Chamis Harrell, Landry Hughes and Laynee Hughes. His Mother: Irene Laws Shoun, Butler. 5394 Larry Dwane Duncan, 77, passed away on Sept. 10, 2018, in Norfolk, Va. Larry was born March 29, 1941 in Bakersville's Ledger community.

Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda Tolley of Cranberry. He is also survived by his beloved sons: Derrick of Norfolk, Va., and Blake of Virginia Beach, Va. He also leaves behind a wonderful daughter-in-law: Leslee, and two much loved sisters to carry on his memory: Donna Duncan of Gastonia, NC and Gayle Duncan Burleson and her husband, Steve, of Belmont, NC.

One of Larry's favorite people was Brenda's sister, Grace Lee Tolley, of the Henson Creek neighborhood in Avery County. Larry would sit on her porch, look at the mountains, and frequently say, "I'm restoring my soul." Larry has many relatives and friends in Mitchell County, and a substantial number of extended family members residing in Avery County, including his mother-in-law: Helen Hughes of Linville. Other relatives are Brenda's siblings, Michael Hughes, Gary Tolley and Burl Tolley of Avery County, H.D. Tolley of Marietta, Ga., and Becky Tolley Harrison of Martinez, Ga.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Frances Young Duncan and "Bill" Duncan, originally of the Ledger community, in addition to both of Larry's revered younger brothers: Roger Duncan of Belmont, NC and Terry Duncan of Marion, NC. Roger's wife, Lois Duncan, resides in Belmont, and Terry's wife, Vicky Duncan, resides in Marion.

In the Duncan family, Larry has three nieces, one nephew, six great nieces and three great nephews, and one great, great nephew whom he did not live to see.

Larry deeply loved his family, and showed it regularly by giving them books, mostly from his vast library. Larry also deeply loved his 4,000-plus students and his numerous friends and colleagues. Larry's life mission and passions were learning all he could about everything, sharing this knowledge with his fellow teachers and students, and teaching English literature, Shakespearean Drama and science fiction literature to teenagers for 41 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Bakersville's Ledger community during the Christmas season, with date and time to be determined.

Larry served in the United States Marines. He was a retired roofer and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Laddie Absher, and two brothers, Harry and Tommy Absher.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Gilbert Herman & Anness Guinn Stout.

Larry was a 1966 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a retired fork lift operator for Wrenn Handling of Knoxville. Larry was a faithful and active member of Harvest Baptist Church where he had served as Music Director for several years. He had gone on several Missionary Journeys with the church. He was a member of the Elizabethton Car Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Patricia Ann Hatley Stout who died March 16, 2018 and a sister: Marion Jane Presnell.

Survivors include his son: Larry Douglas Stout, Abingdon, Virginia. Two Brothers: Gary (Helen) Stout, Elizabethton and Tom (Vivian) Stout, Kingsport. A Sister: Phyllis Grindstaff. Several nieces & Nephews.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Larry Stout will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Garrard officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family, and members of the Elizabethton Car Club.

5397 Larry Glenn Crowe, 77, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed from this life on December 1, 2019.
Larry was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church, Elizabethton. He loved God, and his family, and also his job driving the bus for the Elizabethton City School System. His hobbies included going to athletic events, talking about his bus, and the weather.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Crowe, his mother, Ruth Elizabeth Crowe, and two of his brothers, Michael and Randy Crowe.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gwen, and children, Charlie (Erika) Eric, Evan (Alexandria) and Benay; grandchildren, Skyler, Natalie, Chloe, Olivia and Isaiah Crowe; brother, Terry (Ruth) Crowe; and several nieces and nephews.
Our thanks to the Elizabethton City Police and Carter County Rescue Squad, the ER Staff at Sycamore Shoals and the medical team in the ICU at JCMC Heart Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hunter First Baptist Church on Friday, Dec. 6, from 2 to 6 p.m. Larry was a full body donation to Restore Life USA and a private burial will be held at a later date.

5398 Larry Grant Whitehead, 70, Gray, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at his residence. A native of Johnson City, he was a son of the late Arthur Jackson Whitehead and Betty Mathis Whitehead Jeans.

Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by his loving wife of 34 years Donna Austin Whitehead. Larry graduated from Science Hill High School class of '65 and proudly served in the National Guard. He also worked at Eastman Chemical Company for 27 years until his retirement. From there he acquired his license to be a general contractor where he designed and built houses throughout the Tri– Cities such as Lake Ridge, Preston Park, and Rivermont subdivisions. Everyone knew him by his blue MGB that he drove.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Tatia Dovie Whitehead; son, Eric Grant Whitehead; and a granddaughter; Britni Lynn Whitehead, four sisters, Sharon Smith, Sheila Goins, Becky Doggott, and Nancy Hall, three brothers; Artie, Gary, and Steve Whitehead.

A graveside service for Mr. Whitehead will be held at East Tennessee Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Sunday September 11, 2016 with Pastor Clinton Andrews officiating. Friends and family are serving as pallbearers. Attendees are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 PM.

5399 Larry Keith Hathaway, 74, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 8, 2022, surrounded by his wife and son at his residence. Larry was born in Elizabethton on October 5, 1947 to the late Ralph and Ruby Marie (White) Hathaway. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Leonard Johnson.
Larry had worked for the Department of Transportation for 38 years and was a United States Army veteran. He was a kind, loving man with a great sense of humor. He was known to be quite a jokester and enjoyed boating and fishing.
Larry was of the Baptist faith.
Those left to cherish Larry’s memory include his beloved wife of 52 years, Peggy Hathaway; his son, Jody Hathaway; a sister, Carol Hicks; his brother-in-law, Gary Johnson; his mother-in-law, Mary D. Johnson; two nieces, Lori Ann Stout and Shana Price; and a great-nephew, Clayton Burton.
A graveside service to celebrate Larry’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 11, in the Johnson Family Cemetery (Big Springs Road). The family will provide a eulogy.

5400 Larry Mack Daryl Eller, 78, Elizabethton passed away Friday August 19, 2011 at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Stanley and Vada Norris Eller. Larry was a 1950 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a retired employee of Fleming Food, Johnson City. He was of the Baptist Faith. Larry served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Carter County Hunting and Fishing Club, Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238 and the American Legion Post 49.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter: Belinda Eller, Two Sisters: Gladys Meredith and Belva Lee Cox.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years: Lola Henley Eller, Three Daughters: Phyllis Wheatley, Glenda Davis and husband Glenn and Claudia Cooper all of Greenville, Tenn. Three Sons: Larry Eller II, Jacksonville, Florida, Mark S. Eller, Columbia, South Carolina, and David Banner and wife Tracy, Massapequa, New York. Two Granddaughters: Megan Eller and Morgan Eller. One Grandson: Kenny Eller. One Great Granddaughter: Karissa.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion & Tennessee National Guard.
