4951 JOHNSON CITY - Our loving mother, sister, and friend, Nancy Lear Snyder, is in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She passed peacefully from this Earth, the evening of May 9, 2019 at home surrounded by those she loved and who loved her.

Nancy was a member of First Christian Church, Johnson City.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Frances Warren; sister, Shirley Warren Hale and her husband Nathan Hale; brother, Claude (Buddy) Warren; husband, Dennis Peters (d. 1975); and husband Ed Snyder (d. 2008)

Nancy is survived by her sister, Pansy Snyder Hansen; Daughters Jennifer Lear Peters and Denise Peters Lee and husband Louis; and her grand pups.

4952 JOHNSON CITY - Pat Arnold Burleson, Johnson City, died Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Life Care Center of Gray, following an extended illness.

Pat was a native of Elizabethton and had been a resident of Johnson City since 1959. She was a daughter of the late A. J. and Eliza Stout Arnold.

Pat was a homemaker, but formerly worked as a secretary then licensed Insurance Agent with American National and Independent Life Insurance Companies. She was an ASL Interpreter for the deaf and worked with the Johnson City School System as well as various local churches.

Pat was a member of Boones Creek Bible Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, a former member of the Women's Republican Club and former Girl Scout Troop Leader.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Burleson, in 2016, a grandson, Joshua Grant Ramsey, her brother, Delmas Arnold, three sisters, Velma Roberts, Geneva White and Frances Campbell.

Pat is survived by three children, Tom Burleson and wife Nancy, Kingsport, Jamie Burleson Harber and husband Walt, Johnson City, Cyndi Burleson Ramsey, Johnson City; one sister, Madelyn Jones, Elizabethton; two grandsons, John and James Burleson, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to the nursing staff of Life Care Center of Gray for their loving care of Pat during her stay.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 21, 2019, at 12:00 noon, from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor Dale Cunningham, officiating. Special music will be provided by Lee Ann Davis, soloist. The graveside committal service will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

4953 JOHNSON CITY - Paul Earnest Whaley, 82, Johnson City, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Paul was a Johnson City native, and a son of the late Jacob P. and Bessie Bowman Whaley.

He retired from Baxter Pharmaseal in 1981 where he worked as a Welder for eighteen years.

Paul enjoyed working with his hands and could build and fix anything.

He was a longtime, active member of Liberty Fellowship Church, where he was well known as the “official greeter”.

Paul loved his Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Josephine Eury, and five brothers, Lewis, Harold, Herman, Lawrence and Buford Whaley.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of more than sixty-two years, Marty Whaley; two daughters, Sherrie Frontz (Rusty), and Paula Woods (Ricky), all of Johnson City; his two very special grandchildren, Brett Michael Nave (Miranda Pearson), and Lyndsay Woods, all of Johnson City; sister-in-law, Rena Hanam, Virginia Beach, VA; several nieces and nephews, including Larry Lane (Cheryl), who Paul thought of as a son; great-nieces and nephews, including Kenny Ledwell (Gina), Jackie Oberlo and Ashleigh Whaley; special fur baby, Asher.

The family would like to thank Melissa O. Leake, FNP, for her many years of excellent care to Paul, and to Dr. Hadi El Bazouni, Dr. Jeff Farrow, Dr. Maria C. Garcia, and the nursing staffs of the 5200 wing and I.C.U. of the Johnson City Medical Center, for their wonderful care during his illness.

The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 7:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Dan Foster and Pastor Kenny Ledwell, officiating. Special music will be provided by Amy Foster Duncan.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.

The graveside committal service will be held Thursday, at 1:00 P.M., in Highland Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

4954 JOHNSON CITY - Pauline Georgia Oakes Smith, 86, of Johnson City, died Thursday, August 18, 2016 at her home with beloved son Rob by her side. She was a native of Newland, North Carolina, daughter of the late Harrison and Lilly Greene Oakes (a coal miner's daughter).

Pauline was a retired homemaker who will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother who loved family above everything else.

She was hospitable, offering coffee to everyone who entered her door.

A lovely lady who always put her family's needs before her own.

In addition to her parents, her husband, R. C. Smith; two brothers, Floyd and Dewey Oakes; four sisters, Ruby Jones, Odie McKinney, Arlene Barnett, and Ruth Hoilman; her loving granddaughter, Jessica Shalene Morrow preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Janith Smith (husband Jesse) of Jonesborough, Robert Dale Smith of the home, Darlene Sue Smith Morrow of Johnson City; Shelia Kay Smith of Johnson City, and Christopher Allen Smith of Jonesborough; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 10:00am until 11:00am at the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Oak Chapel. A funeral service will follow under the direction of Minister Greg Gay. Following the service a procession to Roselawn Memorial Park will leave for a committal service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

4955 JOHNSON CITY - Pauline Sells Cox of Johnson City died on Thursday, May 5, 2016, after an extended illness.

She was a native of Johnson City, daughter of the late William Abraham and Hattie Tolley Sells. Mrs. Cox was a secretary with the former Volunteer Natural Gas Company, now Atmos Energy, for over 27 years. She was a member of Tacoma Church of God for over 60 years. Mrs. Cox was a soft spoken, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Oscar Cox; her son, Bobby Gene Cox; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Cox; sisters, Jewell Sells Harlan and Agnes Arney; a brother, A. Jay Sells; a brother-in-law, James Lee Harlan, and a nephew William Andrew Sells preceded her in death.

Survivors include a grandson and his wife, Mr. & Mrs. Rob Cox, of Indiana; two great granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Sidney Cox, of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews including Jan Harlan Gibbons and Bobby of Kingsport, James Lee Harlan II and Donna of Jonesborough; Walden Sells Sifford and Tony of Jonesborough; and a sister in law, Ethel Sells of Johnson City.

The family of Pauline Sells Cox will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM with Mr. James Lee Harlan II officiating.

4956 JOHNSON CITY - Peggy Ann Hughes, age 90, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born in Elizabethton to the late Henry Eugene Nave and Hattie Mae Gouge Nave. In addition to her parents, Peggy was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert William “Bill” Hughes; her sister, Hildred LaPorte; and two brothers, Leslie H. Nave and Harry K. Nave.Peggy had worked at Massengills of Johnson City and was a member of First Christian Church of Johnson City. She was a former member of the Johnson City Women’s Club, a former member of the Tuesday Bridge Club and was called to substitute for many differed bridge groups. Peggy loved to play bridge and did so well into her late 80s (almost 90) and was considered to be a very good player! She also enjoyed UT football games with her husband in their UT van, sewing in her younger years and Gatlinburg trips with her husband.
Those left behind to love and cherish Peggy’s memory include her daughter, Patricia Ann Meyers and husband Gary of Kentucky; her son, Robert Hughes and wife Donna of Johnson City, TN; her grandchildren, Billy Meyers and wife Alynia of Kentucky, Tony Hughes and wife Amanda of Georgia, and Tiffany Willis of Johnson City; five great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Nagle of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her daughter, Melinda Templeton and husband Scott of Piney Flats, TN and grandchildren, Lauren Kozik and husband Ray of South Carolina and Candice Templeton of Tennessee.
A graveside service to remember the life of Peggy Ann Hughes will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Donald Mushayamunda, minister, officiating. 4957 JOHNSON CITY - Phillip A. Hill, 87, Johnson City passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was a native of Hampton, Tennessee and was a son of the late Samuel and Bonnie Johnson Hill. Phil was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church and attended Oak Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army. Phil was an avid fisherman and lifetime member of BASS Anglers Sportsman Society. He loved being outdoors, traveling and spending time helping friends and family. Phil truly was a faithful man serving God through the charity work he performed with his wife, and through her battles with cancer. He also cherished his puppies, his three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Sue Pickering Hill and four brothers, J.B., Elmer, Don and Arnold Hill.

Survivors include a son, Tony Hill and his wife, Paula of Toney, Alabama; a daughter, Tammy Hill of Johnson City; three sisters, Shelby Miller and husband, Ike of Elkart, IN, Geraldine Clawson and husband, Doug of Jonesborough and Sylvia Hughes and husband, Dayton of Elizabethton; four brothers, Kenneth Hill of Elizabethton, Roy Hill and wife, Barbara of Ringgold, GA, Wayne Hill and wife, Scarlett of Johnson City and Dewey Hill and wife, Sheree of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Charles Hill, Robbie Hill and Abigail London and husband, Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Kaydence Hill, Lakelyn Watson and Malichai London; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Phil will be conducted at 12:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Oak Hill Freewill Baptist Church, 434 Browns Branch Road, Hampton, TN 37658 with Rev. Dexter Brummitt and Rev. Terry Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the service hour. Interment will follow in the John Whitehead Cemetery in Hampton. Pallbearers will be Randall, Chris, Daniel, Charles and Robbie Hill, Jamie, Jeremy and J.D. Hughes.

4958 JOHNSON CITY - Phyllis Ann Gourley Eorgan, 85, of Johnson City, passed away from this life on Sunday, February 5th, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was adored by everyone that knew her. Phyllis was a native of Limestone, TN, and the daughter of Flora Mae and Samuel Alfred Gourley. She was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and a member of First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Linda Jaynes, and brothers, John Gourley and Samuel Gourley.

Phyllis graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Knoxville and began what would become an illustrious career as a nationally recognized critical care nurse and educator. She was a pioneer in developing and implementing critical care education in northeast Tennessee. She brought recognition to Mountain States Health Alliance (now Ballad Health) and the state of Tennessee through her research on cough CPR and the perfection of this technique for patients to self-administer when experiencing life-threatening dysrhythmias. During her career, she also developed and implemented the first critical care course for nurses in northeast Tennessee, teaching critical judgment skills which are essential in the care of intensive care patients.

Her work was published in the industry journal Critical Care Nurse. She was invited to present at the Mayo Clinic National Nursing Conference while carrying out her usual work assignments as a critical care educator for MSHA. She was also instrumental in organizing a critical care course called "Beyond the Basics," an annual education event for nurses.

Phyllis was the model of professionalism and dedication to the practice of nursing, promoting harmony and sharing of knowledge. She was an inspiration to her students, coworkers, and family, always encouraging those around her to be the best they could be. Many of the nurses she educated and inspired continue to carry on her legacy of excellence and her enthusiastic desire for learning.

She was a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), Northeast Tennessee Chapter of AACN, and Tennessee and American Nurses Associations. She received several awards during her nursing career including the Nurse of Distinction Award in 2001 from the Tennessee Hospital Association. She retired from Mountain States Health Alliance in 2006 and enjoyed living life with her family and friends.

Phyllis leaves a large and tight-knit family to cherish her memory, including her husband, Tom Eorgan; children, Cyndi Bailey and husband Joe; Alisa Bailey and husband Keith; Sha Reid; Dawn Yoder and husband Joe; Thomas Eorgan and wife Cortny; and Chris Huggler and wife Paige. She was blessed with an abundance of grandchildren who loved her dearly: Nicole and Elizabeth Bailey; Alexandra Payne and husband Michael; Kelsey Bailey; Hailey Reid; Taylor and Austin Yoder; Sunny Roan Eorgan; and Gabby and Gracie Huggler. Most recently, she welcomed a great-granddaughter, Andrea Payne.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, physicians and staff at Johnson City Medical Center, many of whom she taught, for their compassionate care of Phyllis in her final days.

4959 JOHNSON CITY - Phyllis Ann Hamm, age 65, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2022.

A lifelong native of Johnson City, Phyllis was born December 14, 1956, to the late William and Ruby Hyatt Tester. She was of the Baptist faith.

Phyllis will always be remembered as a selfless person who would help anybody. She had a giving, forgiving, and loving heart. She loved horses and above all else, she loved her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Roger Hamm; granddaughter, Victoria “Tori” Jones; sister, Mary Oliver; brother, James "Jimmy" Tester; and nephews, Mark Tester and Wayne Oliver.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Amy Jones, Christopher Jones, Taneeka Salas, and Thomas (and Heather) Hubbard; stepdaughter, Cynthia Hamm; grandchildren, Adriana Salas, Joseph Salas, Thomas Hubbard III, Harleigh Marie Hubbard, Angel Yoakley, Erica "Ryleigh-Ann" Burgner, Emma Isaac, and Emerson Jones; great-grandchildren, Clayton Yoakley and Saturn Yoakley; nephew, James Tester; niece, Sherry (and Bob) Jones; and former husbands, Thomas Edward Hubbard and Charles Jones.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home on Friday, July 29, 2022, with a committal service following at 2:00 pm at Monte Vista Memorial Park, under the direction of Mike Richards.

4960 JOHNSON CITY - Phyllis Marie Gouge, age 85, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Phyllis was born in Carter County to the late Ora Gay Nave and Sarah Buckles Nave. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
To know her was to know love, compassion, and the most tender heart. She was without a doubt the sweetest, most precious soul we have ever known and had a smile that would light up a room. She closed her eyes on her earthly home and opened her eyes to see the face of GOD in her eternal home. Although she will be terribly missed, we have comfort in knowing she is at rest and at the feet of Jesus.
Phyllis retired from Johnson City Medical Center as a dietary aide and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved to sing in the choir, shopping, going out to eat, reading her bible, and crocheting in her younger years.
Those left to cherish Phyllis’s memories include her husband of sixty-nine years, Kyle Gouge of the home; three children, Debbie Teague, Lois Hyder (Clifford) and Jeffrey Gouge; her grandchildren, Melanie Williams, Michele Robitaille (Mike), Ronnie Wilson and Amy Henegar; her great grandchildren, Mason Williams, Caitlyn Wilson, Chandler Williams, Adrienne Henegar, Marcus Robitaille, Ethan Robitaille, Autumn Henegar, Cassidy Wilson and Kelsie Robitaille. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Phyllis Marie Gouge will be conducted at 11:30 AM on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. There will be an open visitation from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM on Thursday prior to the service.
The graveside service will follow in the Wilson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Clifford Hyder, Ronnie Wilson, Mike Robitaille, Mason Williams, Chandler Williams and Jason Eggers. Honorary pallbearers will be Marcus Robitaille and Ethan Robitaille.

4961 JOHNSON CITY - R.H. Milhorn, Jr., Johnson City, died Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton, following a brief illness.

R.H. was born in the community of Neva, in Johnson County, and at an early age moved with his family to Butler, where he lived until entering the military.

He was the second of eight sons born to the late Robert Howard Milhorn, Sr. and Hattie Belle Stout Milhorn.

R.H. attended the former Watauga Acadamy then Steed College, where he received a diploma in bookkeeping.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1940-44, achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Upon his discharge from the Army, R.H. move to Johnson City, where he owned and operated Milhorn Grocery Store for more than forty years.

He was an active member of University Parkway Baptist Church, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening.

In addition to his parents, R.H. was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Ruth Pearson Milhorn, in 1994, a daughter-in-law, Vanessa Milhorn, and four brothers, Paul, Herbert, James and Harold Milhorn.

He is survived by a son, Robert Ray "Bob" Milhorn; two grandsons, Jamie Milhorn and Eddie Milhorn; 5 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wylie Milhorn, Tom Milhorn, Bill Milhorn; several nieces and nephews.

The graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Washington County Memory Gardens, with Rev. Scott Thompson, officiating.

4962 JOHNSON CITY - R.M. Guinn, 84, Johnson City, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born January 19, 1939, in Abingdon, Virginia to the late Cleveland & Easter Guy Guinn. He was preceded in death by his wife: Doris “Mickey” Guinn and daughter Regina Lee Cole, several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by daughter Tammy (Eric) Gibson, sons Timothy (Patti) Honeycutt, Wayne (Regina) Honeycutt and Mark Honeycutt and Randall (KeeWee) Guinn. He was blessed with six granddaughters: Joanna Gibson, Erika Collins, Katie Honeycutt, Allie Malone and Stephanie Williams whom he helped raise & were like his own. Nine grandsons: Joshua Gibson, Timmy & Cody Honeycutt, Kaleb Honeycutt, Tanner & Jeffery Honeycutt, Nic Guinn, Ashton & Asher Guinn. Four great-granddaughters: Peyton Peoples, Emma Moore, Hadley Bravender, and Harper Grimes. Two great-grandsons: Oliver Yeager & Kenneth Malone.

He served in the US Army and was of the Baptist Faith. His life revolved around farming and gardening, which he did until age 83. He enjoyed being with family and telling stories of his life. He leaves behind his best friend and closest companion his dog “Sparky”. Also, a special friend who has been a huge help over the years, Rick Hill.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Anglin officiating. Entombment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 in the Mausoleum of Faith, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Stephanie Williams and Barbara Curtis, pianist. Active Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends.

4963 JOHNSON CITY - Rebecca “Becky” Grindstaff of Johnson City, TN passed away suddenly on March 14, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Gerald B. Price and the late Elizabeth "Lois" Jervis Price (deceased, October 9, 2021, related to COVID).

She is predeceased by her love and husband, William Joseph “Joe” Grindstaff; and her five siblings, George Timothy Price, Elizabeth “Libby” Anne Statham, John Paul Price, Gerald B. Price Jr., and Robert Phillip Price. Becky was born in Johnson City, TN in the old hospital and lived a life of adventure, living in Wisconsin, New York and North Carolina at various times. Becky leaves behind her beloved children; son, Joseph Nicholas “Nick” Grindstaff & Danielle along with three grandchildren; Daniel, Dylan and Scarlett Josie; and daughter, Rebecca Leah Daily & Jay and grandson, Henry.

Becky worked for East Tennessee State University for 30 years in various departments, including History, Appalachian Studies and Social Work. She was a free spirit with a heart of gold and everyone who met her was mesmerized by her smile, laugh and generosity. She loved dearly and deeply and dreamed big for herself and even more so for those she loved. She was a loyal friend, devoted mother, wife, sister and daughter. She stood up for herself and others when needed. She often gave more of herself, and to others, than she could but would do so with a grateful heart. Becky left us too soon and will forever be missed.

A small graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 31st at the Old Butler Cemetery in Butler, TN at 11:30 am. This is her birthday and wedding anniversary to her sweetheart. The family invites you to join them as they say goodbye and reunite Becky with Joe.

4964 JOHNSON CITY - Rev. Johnny Birchfield Richardson, 87, Johnson City, died Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at his residence.
Johnny was a native of Johnson City and a son of the late Robert and Goldia Murr Richardson.
Johnny was a member of Westerly Heights Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran. Johnny was a driver and retired from Tri-City Beverage Corporation. He was a preacher and Sunday school teacher. Johnny enjoyed fishing and volunteering at NHC.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Sylvia Richardson, grandsons, John Thomas Stevens and David Adam Stevens, great-granddaughters, Autumn Curtis and Kourtney Elisabeth Boggs, several brothers and sisters.

4965 JOHNSON CITY - Reva Mae Fagans, age 72, of Johnson City, TN passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 at her residence.

A native of Piney Flats, TN she was the daughter of the late Van and Charity Presnell Hicks. She was a homemaker and was a member of Keystone Freewill Baptist Church. She loved her dog "Little Bit". She was a loving mother who always put her family first. Her memory will live on forever through her loving family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Michael Fagans. 4966 JOHNSON CITY - Reverend Dallas James Hartley, Sr., age 79, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord at the Johnson City Medical Center, on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

He was a native of Mountain City, Tennessee and was a son of the late Thomas and Berthie Jenkins Hartley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, his first love, Frances Louise Hartley: two daughters, Cindy Hartley and Tammy Sue Harrell; a great granddaughter, Serenity Dawn Guinn; three brothers, Paul, Clyde and Carl Hartley; one sister, Maude Munsey.

Dallas was a veteran of the United States National Guard and was a member of Full Gospel Holiness Church, and was the founder of Living by Faith Church, Elizabethton. His true love was spreading the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed tending to his yard.

4967 JOHNSON CITY - Richard Wayne “Dick” Brumit, 75, of Johnson City, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Johnson City, son of the late R. D. Sr. and Ailene McCurry Brumit.

Richard was an active partner in The Brumit Company. The Brumit Company a real estate leasing and development firm has been in the East Tennessee area for the past 30 years. In his earlier years, Richard was active in the family business operating supermarkets and convenience stores.

In addition to his parents, a niece Leanna Stump also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, R. D. “Bob” Brumit, Jr. and Phyllis B. of Johnson City, a niece and her husband, Jessica B. and Hunter Burleson of Piney Flats. His sister, Rebecca Brumit Watson and niece, Emily Watson, nephew and his wife, Evan D. and Taylor Wyatt Watson all of Lawton, OK; several cousins.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, a funeral service will follow in the Oak Chapel at 4:00 pm under the direction of Rev. He was the son of the late Hobart and Fannie Wilson Osborne and was born in Carter County on July 14, 1954. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cheyanne Osborne; three brothers and four sisters.

4969 JOHNSON CITY - Robert Bailey Massengill of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was a native of Watauga and was the son of the late James Robert Massengill and the late Anna B. Boling Massengill. He was a 1956 graduate of Elizabethton High School where he was an outstanding baseball pitcher. He was a retired car salesman having worked at Tennessee Motors. Bailey was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Elizabethton and a former member of the Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he was the pitcher of the softball team.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bobbie Lois Fields Massengill; his son, Tommy Massengill; a sister, Kathy Rasnick and husband, Mike; a niece, Shelly Irwin and husband, Will; two great nieces and one great nephew, Bryanna, Angela and Christian Irwin; his grand-dog, Wally.

The family will receive friends Monday, October 23, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Calvary Baptist Church with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 PM with Dr. Joe Sorah and Rev. Jacob Guinn officiating. Burial will be at a later date as his wishes were to be cremated.

4970 JOHNSON CITY - Robert Earl Dykes, 81, of Johnson City, passed away on March 26, 2022. Robert was born on April 28, 1940 in Jonesborough, TN.
Robert Earl was the third of twelve children. He entered the U.S. Air Force on February 14, 1956 at age 15. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on March 1, 1976 at age 35. He served two, one year tours at Phan Rang Air Base in South Vietnam and a one year tour at Ubon Air Base in Thailand, in support of the Vietnam War.
He enrolled in the BS Nursing Program at ETSU in the fall of 1976 and he graduated in the spring of 1980. Robert worked as a nursing assistant while in school at the old Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. In the fall of 1980 he moved from Memorial Hospital to the new Johnson City Medical Center. Robert eventually moved to the VA Medical Center where he retired in 2002.
While working at the Johnson City Medical Center emergency room in the early 1980’s, he befriended his supervisor, Mary Nell Greer. Ms. Greer repeatedly invited Robert to church services, where her husband Preacher Bill Greer was pastor. Eventually, Robert agreed to go to a Sunday morning service and struck up a friendship with the Greer family that lasted over thirty years and included travels to Israel.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Verna Dykes; twin infant daughters, Sharon and Karen Dykes; sisters, Betty Mae Alford, Helen Hodges, Ruth Chambers; brothers, Larry Dykes, Carl Dykes.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Dykes; sons, Raymond Dykes, Rodney (Barbara) Dykes; granddaughter, Kristin Lewis, Knoxville, TN; grandson, Mathew Dykes; great-grandson, Skyler Dykes; siblings, Albert (Marie) Dykes, Norfolk, VA, John (Merry) Dykes, AL, Verna (Buddy) Hughes, AL, Raymond (Rhonda) Dykes, Jr., Sue (Vaughn) Campbell; sisters-in-law, Louise Dykes, Jeanette Dykes; many nieces and nephews.

4971 JOHNSON CITY - Robert F. “Frank” Sliger, 90, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Lakebridge Nursing Home, due to complications from a fall.

Robert was born in Washington Co. Tn. and was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Enoch and Amanda Dunn Sliger.

Robert graduated from Lamar Hill High School where he was on the basketball team. He graduated from Steed Business College in 1958.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy and Marines from 1953-56.

Robert worked for the Johnson City Housing Authority for over 30 years and served as Executive Director for 25 years.

He was a member of the Johnson City Rotary Club.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Dorothy Couch Sliger, five sisters; Leitha Simpson, Mary Lloyd, Virginia Greenwell, Roxie Lowe and one brother, Bill Sliger.

After Robert retired, his favorite past time was going to Tunica, Cherokee or Atlantic City to play the slots with Dorothy and Paul and Ann Adams and friends. He loved spending time with his family especially his three granddaughters. He had a passion for watching westerns later in life.

Survivors include two sons; David and his wife Carolyn (Rookie) Sliger, (granddaughter) Malissa Sliger; Larry and wife Michele; granddaughters; Reid Sliger and McKinley Sliger, several nieces and nephews and one sister, Nora Ezelle.

The family would like to thank the health care heroes at Pine Oaks Assisted Living and Lakebridge Nursing Facility for their love and care for Robert. Yes, we knew he was a handful but we all loved him dearly. 4972 JOHNSON CITY - Robert T. Crowe, age 91, of Johnson City, TN went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Hospice House, Bristol, TN. He was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Crowe and Vera Lena Mottern. Robert retired and proudly served our country after 22 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He then worked for 16 years with the Post Office in Avon Park, Florida. He was a graduate of Happy Valley High School and of the Methodist faith. Robert enjoyed whistling, music and singing in quartets. He was a wood craftsman, a shade tree mechanic and a jack of all trades. He could build or fix anything.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ella Skinner, James Crowe, June Fleming and Betty Berry.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Elsie Crowe, of the home; daughter, Sabrina Scott (Darryl), of Johnson City; son, Lessie Crowe (Carla), of Apopka, FL; grandsons, Tyler Scott (Danielle) and Ethan Crowe and several nieces and nephews.

4973 JOHNSON CITY - Robin A. Moody Davis, 54, Johnson City, formerly of Unicoi, died unexpectedly Friday, September 7, 2018, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Robin was a native of Johnson City and a resident of Unicoi for most of her life before returning to Johnson City in 2014.

She was a daughter of Barbara Moody Forbes, Johnson City, and the late Jarvis Moody.

Robin was a homemaker, and a former longtime employee of K-Mart #9774.

She was a 1982 graduate of Science Hill High School. Robin was a member of Boones Creek Bible Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible, cooking and decorating her home for the holidays.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Frank and Rosa Bryant; and paternal grandparents, Jarvis and Rose Moody.

In addition to Robin's mother, she is survived by her husband, Jeffrey D. Davis; her son, Ryne Davis, Johnson City; two brothers, Todd Moody, Boones Creek, Scott Moody and wife Robin, Erwin; two nephews, Joshua Moody and Zackary Moody; one niece, Kaitlyn Moody.

4974 JOHNSON CITY - Rocky Malone Buckles, 74, Johnson City died Sunday, May 28, 2023, at his home, after a battle with cancer. He gained his heavenly home and left behind many family members who will dearly miss him.

Born March 7, 1949, to Elmer “El” Buckles and Frances Ines Burrow Buckles, Rocky was one of 12 siblings. He grew up loving the outdoors and kept a love for the beauty of nature that helped drive him to be a passionate conservationist.

While very conservative, he was the first to give to those in need. He would be on his way without hesitation if asked for assistance. An excellent mechanic and sharp problem-solver, he could always find a way to make a repair. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy, including on the USS Dale, during the Vietnam War.

The smiles and laughter of children were his greatest joys in life, and his grandchildren were his source of strength during his fight with cancer. He wanted most to see them grow happily and safely into adulthood.

He will be remembered for his teasing smile, his loving generosity, and the comfort of his hugs.

He is survived by three children: Melissa Kennedy Lloyd and Tray Gunn; Rocky Shane and Olivia Buckles; and Kristen and O.J. Early; stepchild Amanda and Winston Bokor; thirteen grandchildren: Mason Buckles, Kasey Kennedy, Caleb Kennedy, Madison Buckles, Levi Tipton, Noah Lloyd, Tristan Buckles, Abby Buckles, Camden Buckles, Greyson Bokor, Madeline Bokor, Isabella Buckles and Aubrey Buckles; his significant other, Dolly Buckles; siblings Martha Lue McIntosh, Eleanor Prophett, Elizabeth Samples, Danny Buckles, Vikki Ward, Fredia Teresia Knarr, and Allen Buckles; and many close friends and family, including Jon and Barbara Lau and Ballard Bailey.

4975 JOHNSON CITY - Ronald E. Kilby, 84, passed away Tuesday morning, January 3, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born January 4, 1938, in Johnson City, TN, to the late Edgar and Blanche Estep Kilby.

He grew up in Johnson City, TN where he spent most of his life and was a graduate of Science Hill High School.

Ronald worked at Tri-Cities Insulation. He was a member of Harrison Christian Church. He was also an avid bowler and a member of many different leagues.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

4976 JOHNSON CITY - Rondal (Ron) Clay Lovelace, 78, passed away at his home in Johnson City, TN on May 23, 2021 following an extended illness. He was born to the late Arnold B. Lovelace and Evelyn Hyder Lovelace Byrd on August 30, 1942 in Carter County, TN.

He had no blood born siblings, but a host of brothers and sisters in Siam where he grew up. His best and long-time friend since they were 4 years old, Ted Hamilton died last summer.

Ron was a Polio survivor. He graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1960. He was an American Patriot with hopes of getting an Army commission after firing in ROTC at ETSU for 3 years. But during his last physical at Ft. Benning, GA, the effects of Polio showed up, causing the loss of that dream. He had been #1 in his class for marksmanship. Ron worked with the Carter Co. Youth Civil Air Patrol in the early 1960s. He loved working with the Boy Scouts Troup #220 teaching emergency preparedness.

Ron was the Science Hill Band Booster President several times in the late seventies to late eighties. He was always where his children were.

He was an Adult Sunday School teacher at Snow Memorial and filled in as Trustee of the church. Now a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church. Ron was a Mason, past Johnson City Lodge and Unicoi Lodge. He was a machine designer, retiring on disability from Texas Instruments in 1992 after post Polio Syndrome took over his body in 1987.

Ron is predeceased by his parents, daughter, Ronda Michelle Lovelace, stepfather, Ralph Byrd, brothers-in-law Ralph Saylor and Earl Saylor.

Ron was married to the love of his life, and high school sweetheart for 58 years, 8 months, Elizabeth Ann Saylor Lovelace. He has left to cherish his memory a son, David Lovelace and wife, Karen, daughters, Rebecca Ann Lovelace and Rachel Michelle Lovelace, grandchildren, Ryan Lovelace and wife Jenifer, Megan Lovelace Hall and husband Adrian, Olivia Faith Lovelace and three great- grandchildren, Louella, Elijah and Hudson, Special niece, Elizabeth (Beth) T. Saylor of Seattle WA. whom he thought of as a daughter, special cousins, Pauletta Pierce (Lawrence), Sue Arp (Ron).

4977 JOHNSON CITY - Roxie Dempsey, 91 of Johnson City ,went home to be with her Lord, her beloved husband and the family she missed so much on Friday afternoon from Cornerstone Village.

She was born in Hampton, TN to James Carter Carver and Hettie Elzora Clark Carver. Roxie worked for North American Rayon Corporation for 25 years. She loved her family, music, singing, cooking, gardening and quilting by hand. Roxie was a pastor's wife, and loved her Lord and loved going to church.

In addition to her parents, Roxie was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Edmond Lee Dempsey; brother's Robert, Ralph, Dayton and Frank Carver; sister's Violet Carver, Oleta Gouge and Alma Campbell; Step-daughter, Patricia Satterfield and Barbara Dempsey; grandson, Russell Satterfield.

Survivors include a daughter, Zodie Dempsey; one granddaughter, P.J. Nachman; two great granddaughters, Julie Satterfield, U.S Air Force, Korea, and Kimberly Satterfield, Ft. 4978 JOHNSON CITY - Roy Garland, 91, Johnson City, died Friday, February 3, 2023, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.

Roy was a native of Bakersville, NC, and a son of the late Roy E. and Mae Nelson Garland.

He was a proud Marine Corp veteran, serving more than twenty years of active duty, including the Korean War and Vietnam War, from February 2, 1949 until retiring March 31, 1973 as a Master Sargent.

Roy then worked with the Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Utilities, retiring after twenty-four years as a Supervisor in wastewater Treatment.

He was a Methodist, and when was able, enjoyed attending services at the VA Chapel.

During his younger years, Roy practiced Martial Arts, and earned a Black Belt in Karate.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Evyln Craig Garland, in 2015, a son, Roy S. Garland, a sister, Barbara Ann Jackson, and his brother, Howard E. Garland.

Roy is survived by one son, Robert M. Garland and wife Dorothy, WV; one sister, Betty Jean Thomas, Atlanta, GA; several nieces and nephews.

She was a native of San Marcos, Texas and was the daughter of the late Charles Arthur Hilton and Betty Baker Hilton Talley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Bennett; second husband, John Ellis; a grandson, Jerry Wayne "Jay" Bennett.

4980 JOHNSON CITY - Ruth Evelyn Calhoun McCue, age 96 of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at her home.

She was a daughter of the late Harvey and Lizzie Gouge Calhoun, born to them on September 27, 1922 in Cranberry, North Carolina. She was a former member of the Grace Baptist Church, a current member at the Heritage Baptist Church, and was privileged to be in Gary Stocton's Sunday school class with many special people.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John McCue and her first husband, Ernest C. Lowe. She is also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Colleen Lowe.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Michael Lowe; Step-Son, Michael McCue (Michelle); Grandchildren: Matt and Megan McCue; Sister, Mary Sexton, and several nieces, nephews and special friends.

Funeral services for Ms. Ruth E. McCue will be conducted on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services of Johnson City with Dr. Allen Davis and Dr. Reggie Weems officiating. 4981 JOHNSON CITY - Samuel Gibson "Sam" Daniels, 69, Johnson City passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Samuel & Mary Elliott Daniels. Sam attended Elizabethton Schools and was a graduate of East Tennessee State University. He served his country in the US Army and the Naval Reserves. He was a former employee of the Elizabethton and Johnson City Police Departments and prior to his illness retired as a Captain of the Security System of the Johnson City Medical Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Gary E, Daniels. He is survived by his wife Paula Rebecca "Becky" Buck Daniels. A step-son: Eric (Christy) Kelly, Greeneville and his two best furry friends Mollie & Roxie. 4982 JOHNSON CITY - Samuel Grant Greer, 87, Johnson City, died Monday, July 22, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Sam was a native of Mountain City and had been a longtime resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Walter Fred and Flora Annis McQueen Greer.

Sam was a 1954 graduate of Milligan College.

He worked in several capacities of the Dairy Industry throughout the Southeast Region, primarily Sales and Management, retiring in 1997, after forty-four years of service.

Sam enjoyed volunteering his time, especially at the Johnson City Medical Center, where he did so for sixteen years, the Habitat for Humanity and "Clarinda's Work Crew" at Milligan College.

Sam was a member of First Christian Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons and Elders for many years and was a member of the Win-A-Kuple Sunday School class.

He served as a Board Member of the Mountain States Auxillary, Mountain States Health Alliance Foundation, and the Habitat for Humanity.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Moore, Gladys Hicks, Virginia Garland and Earlene Varn, two brothers, Joe F. Greer and Jack Greer, a son-in-law, Heinz Linnemann.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Sally B. Greer; three children, Chad Greer and wife Cindy, Orlando, FL, Suzanne Linnemann, Somerville, AL, Tommy Greer and wife Cay, Johnson City; four grandsons, Chris Greer and wife Lindsay, Aaron Greer and wife Brittany, Alexander Greer and wife Meg, Isaiah Greer and wife Allie; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Greer, Jayda and Adeline Greer, and soon to be born, Anderson Greer; two sisters, Ida Sue Ingram and husband Jack, Canton, GA, Barbara Grindstaff, Okeechobee, FL; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Greer and Pat Bonner; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Sam will be conducted Friday, July 26, 2019, at 5:00 P.M., from the Sanctuary of First Christian Church, with Ethan Magness, Senior Minister, and Donald Mushayamunda, Minister, officiating. Special music will be provided by Gloria Dudney, soloist. Grandsons and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the church.

The graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. in Monte Vista Memorial Park.

4983 JOHNSON CITY - Samuel Martin Tolley, 86, Johnson City passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a native of Johnson City where he lived most of his life but had lived in Erwin and Jonesborough also. Sam was a son of the late William Birt Tolley and Sudie Mae Carroll Tolley.
He was a well known and respected painting contractor for over 30 years in the Tri-Cities area. Sam was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel; a daughter, Diana Tolley; two brothers, Bill and Jerry Tolley; a sister, Betty Hall; and the mother of his children, Louise Copas Tolley.
Survivors include four daughters, Debbie Grindstaff of Johnson City, Delaine Sanders of Erwin, Sandra Kinley of Elizabethton and Stephanie May and husband, Scott of Johnson City; three sisters, Mary Moody of Jonesborough, Patsy Byrd and husband, Allen of Florida and Lyndoll Williams of Johnson City; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a special friend and caretaker, Beverly Tolley Gross; his faithful and loving companion, his dog, Coco; also several cousins, nieces and nephews.

4984 JOHNSON CITY - Sandra (Sandy) M. Collins, 86, of Johnson City passed away peacefully with family surrounding her in Knoxville on Sunday, January 3, 2020. Sandy was the only child of the late John Robert and Helen Gleason Motz. She grew up moving frequently as her father was an engineer with TVA. She graduated from Elizabethton High School where she met her late husband Carl Gilson Collins. They married after graduating from college and nursing school. Carl served in the United States Marine Corp for 26 years so Sandy’s nomadic life continued until she and Carl retired to Johnson City in 1983. They loved establishing roots and living by Carl’s family and forming life-long friends. Carl passed away in 2017 at which time Sandy relocated to Knoxville to be closer to her children. To know Sandy was to know that she was a devout Catholic and that she had a strong and enviable faith. She was a dedicated member of St Mary’s Church, Johnson City and served the church and many parishioners in a multitude of ways. She was a vivacious woman who loved to love on people and was famous for giving great hugs. Her hands were seldom still as she spent countless hours crafting and making gifts to show family and friends how deeply they were loved by her. Sandy’s love for her family was as fierce as her love for the Lord. She was a devoted wife and an amazing role model of what it meant to be a strong and loving woman to her daughters - Colette C. Parker (husband Craig) of Shelton, WA, Stacy C. Schuettler (husband Henry) of Knoxville, TN, and Stephanie C. Runge (husband Todd) of Marietta, GA. She treasured her role as “Grandy” to her eight grandchildren who loved her endlessly - Joshua and Jessica Parker, Kendrick and Alex Schuettler (wife Kennedy), and Carl, Will, Kevin and Steven Runge. Sandy’s love and famous hugs extended beyond her immediate family to include her many nieces and nephews who were extremely dear to her. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 2211 E. 4985 JOHNSON CITY - Sarah E. Toth, age 84, of Johnson City, passed away, Friday, February 2, 2018 at Broadmore Assisted Living.

A native of Johnson City, TN, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus and Lucy Vance Carr. Mrs. Toth worked for General Motors for 20 plus years in the Finance Department, then worked for Bank of America. Following retirement, Mrs. Toth worked for Massengill's in downtown Johnson City. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She loved canning and sewing. Mrs. Toth was a loving mother, and she loved her granddaughter, Taylor. She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, Johnson City.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Toth was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joe "Bill" Toth, in May of 2017; six brothers, Roby, Joe, Elmer, Willie, Melvin, and Ernie Carr.

Survivors include her son, Keith Toth and fiancée, Janie Tipton, Jonesborough; granddaughter, Taylor Toth, Jonesborough; brother, Floyd Carr and wife, Nancy, Johnson City; sisters-in-law, Martha Carr and Carol Lowe, both of Johnson City, Brenda Carr, Kingsport; special nieces, Letha Carr and Elizabeth Perry. 4986 JOHNSON CITY - Sharon "Katie" Hammitt, age 66, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at her residence.

Katie was a native of Carter County and was a daughter of Margaret Lee Hopson Hammitt and the late George Hammitt, Jr. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Lee Hammitt; her maternal grandparents, Tommie and Mary Hopson; her paternal grandmother, Eva Glover Hammitt; and several aunts and uncles.

Katie retired as a pharmacy tech and was a member of Milligan Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed Duke Basketball, cross-stitching and floral arrangement.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Margaret Lee Hopson Hammitt, of the home; her sister, Shirlene Hammitt Sholes and husband Dillard M. Sholes, III, of Johnson City; a special niece, Dr. Paige L. Sholes, of Johnson City; two special friends, Rebecca Street, of Roan Mountain and Amy Hotelling, of Unicoi. Several cousins also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Sharon "Katie" Hammitt will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. 4987 JOHNSON CITY - Sheron E. (Hodge) Boles, 69, of Johnson City, TN passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 at The Life Care Center of Gray.

She was born May 13, 1953 in Charleston, SC to the late Jessie Hodge and Margie Ledwell Grindstaff.

Sheron was a Medical Transcriptionist at the Johnson City Eye Clinic for many years.

She is survived by her mother, Margie Ledwell Grindstaff; three sisters, Cindy Able, Janice Swanner and Barbara Furches; a brother, Kenneth Hodge; her five children, Shannon Nichole Whitburn, Jeremy Ball, Jason Ball, Brittany Pritchard, and Daniel Pritchard; ten grandchildren and one great-grandson.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Goldie and Rosie Oliver Bowman. Shirley was a member of the Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. She retired from the Johnson City School System. Shirley enjoyed gardening, cooking and had a good work history. She also loved animals, especially her cat, Ozzy and her family and friends. Shirley will be looking down from above with much, much undying love. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hartley; two daughters, Linda Mae Brown and Juliann Cole; a step-daughter, Rebecca Jane Peters.

4989 JOHNSON CITY - Shirley Kyker Scott, age 87, Johnson City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, October 24, 2022 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Naturally elegant, aways humble. Hard working to a fault. Soft spoken, with the biggest, most loving heart of anyone you could ever meet. Always a blessing to her family, and no matter what, she accepted and loved you for exactly the person you were.

From exciting adventures over the years, to quiet nights just relaxing, being with her anywhere would always bring a sense of comfort and peace.

Even though our hearts are broken, it’s a comfort knowing she is overjoyed at the reunion in Heaven she’s now a part of; especially with her son Jerry, who held an extra special place in her heart.

She was, without a shadow of a doubt, the most precious, loving, and wonderful: Mom, Wife, Sister, Mamaw, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend, anyone could ever be blessed with. It just so happens, thanks to the good Lord above, we were the lucky ones.

As you ascend to heaven, our hearts go with you. We love you Momma.

Mrs. Scott was born on March 3, 1935 to the late Harold and Macie Cloyd Elliott. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Ronnie and Jerry Kyker; Stepson, Dwight Scott, Jr. “Scotty”; infant grandson, Joey Lake Kyker; Siblings, A.D. Elliott and Marie Heart; nephew, Douglas Lamb; and special sisters-in-law, Betty Little and Leatha Gross.

In addition to her loving husband of over 35 years, Dwight Scott, she is also survived by; son, Danny Kyker and wife Paullet, Jonesborough; daughter, Beverly Osborne, Johnson City; stepdaughter, Gina Gouge and her family, Johnson City; granddaughter, Chastity Kyker Widener and husband Ronald, Erwin; grandson, Derek Osborne and wife Michelle, Johnson City; great granddaughters, Mikayla and Madison Widener, and Kira and Kylie Osborne; siblings, Rose Elliott Lentz, Weeki Wachi, FL., and Patricia “Pat” Lamb, Jonesborough; nieces, Serena Lamb Hutton and husband Jim, and their sons, DJ and David; several other nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly. Shirley was a native of Johnson City, and a former resident of Florida and Nashville prior to her return home. She was a daughter of the late Albert and Virgie Carver Miller.

Shirley received her B.S. Degree from East Tennessee State College School of Nursing, then worked as a Registered Nurse.

She formerly attended East Unaka Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Jack Bowser, in 2000, two granddaughters, Cassie and Callie, one sister, Ruth, four brothers, Paris, Blain, Jack and Earl Miller.

She is survived by four children, Rebecca Rowe and husband Brian, Johnson City, Tammy Pyatte and husband Jeff, Charleston, SC, Cathy LaFrance and husband Gary, Jacksonville, FL, Kimberly Bowser, Smyrna; one brother, David Miller and wife Virginia, Belleview, FL; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a daughter of the late James Luther Britt and Luster Hyder Britt. Shirley worked for many years as a CNA. She enjoyed working in her flowers, gardening and walking her dog. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, June Hughes and Florence Hughes.

4992 JOHNSON CITY - Stanley Thomas “Tommy” Lewis, age 79, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Friday, September 17, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was a son of the late Tom and Christine Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Gabby Lewis.

Mr. Lewis was born in Carter County, Tennessee on September 14, 1942. Tommy was the youngest of three siblings. He was raised in a strong Christian home, farming the land with his family, and the love of farming never left him. Cattle farming was a passion throughout his life as was tobacco farming throughout much of it, and he loved to grow a big garden in the Summer to share with family and friends. As proud as he was of the cows and calves grazing in the field, or the crop of Burley tobacco that would make the market in time for Christmas money in December, he was most proud of his family, and there was no earthly thing that was more important to him.

Mr. Lewis graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1960 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Milligan College in 1964 and his Master’s Degree in Environment Health from East Tennessee State University in 1971. He began employment with the Carter County Health Department after graduating from Milligan in 1964 and later transferred to the Johnson City Environmental Field Office where he remained employed by the State of Tennessee until his retirement in 2004. Mr. Lewis also served in the United States Public Health Service and was assigned to the United States Navy from 1967-1969.

Mr. Lewis was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Tennessee for over 50 years. It was there that he met the love of his life and his wife of 57 years, Brenda Lewis. His daily life always remained grounded around a strong Christian faith which he many times shared and witnessed to others.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Lewis; son, Shane Lewis and wife Becky of Johnson City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tucker Lewis and Ashleigh Lewis; brother, Billy Joe Lewis and wife Anne; sister, Dr. Shirley Morgan; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to celebrate and honor the life of Stanley Thomas “Tommy” Lewis will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Travis Biller officiating. 4993 JOHNSON CITY - Steven R. McLaughlin, age 63, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Steve was born in Johnson City to the late Roy and Genevie Jamison McLaughlin.

Steven was retired from Nuclear Fuel Services after 27 years of employment. He was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church, Johnson City. Steve was an avid fisherman and was known as "The great American Fisherman".

Those left to cherish his memory include, his son, Travis McLaughlin, and his wife Whitney, of Johnson City; a daughter, Lindsay Lester, and her husband Kevin, of Morristown; two grandsons, Kannon Lester and Karson Lester, of Morristown; a brother, Randy McLaughlin, and his wife Barbara, of Kingsport; former wife, Judy McLaughlin, of Johnson City.

4994 JOHNSON CITY - Sue Sparks Wilson, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on May 25 after a brief illness.

She was of the Baptist faith and lifelong member of Ninth Street Baptist Church in Erwin, Tenn.

She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd D. Sparks and Beatrice Ford Sparks; her brother, Floyd “Dave” Sparks.

Survivors include her son, Thomas D. Wilson; special aunt Evelyn Ford; and many beloved cousins from the Sparks and Ford families.

Sue had a big personality and an even bigger heart. A heart full of love she gave away freely. Several years of declining health did not diminish her spirit or her love for others. She was a devout Christian and shared that faith with anyone she could reach. She cared about people. She was the best daughter, sister, and mother anyone could know.

She graduated from Unicoi County High School where she was involved in many activities and held numerous class leadership positions. She was also captain of the cheerleading squad in her senior year. She attended East Tennessee State University for three years where she majored in Business.

She began working in the telecommunications industry while in college. She worked her way up to general manager of cable television systems in the northeast Tennessee region from Warner Communications to Scripps-Howard Cable and Comcast. She served as president of the state chapter of Women in Cable during the late 1980s. Through this role she worked to advocate the role of women as leaders in the industry. She earned numerous awards and recognitions for her work in the industry.

Her career later led her to become customer services manager at Bill Gatton Chevrolet-Cadillac in Bristol. Sue delighted in working with customers and co-workers alike. She spent 10 years with a wonderful group of colleagues who became dear friends to her long after she retired.

Reverend Steve Rice will officiate her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022, in the Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends. 4995 JOHNSON CITY - Tara D. Lady, 70, of Johnson City, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born July 28, 1951 in Johnson City, TN to Foy and Sue Jarrett. Tara grew up in Central Community of Carter County and graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1969.
She worked for many years at Watauga Industries as a supervisor, and then for several other companies in the Johnson City area. When she was not working, Tara enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, shopping and traveling, taking several cruses with her husband. She had also been a member of the Johnson City Church of God as well. In her words, the things that made her smile were family, flowers, and sunshine.
Tara is preceded in death by her father, Foy Jarrett and grandparents, Joe and Minnie Buck.
Those left to cherish her memory include, her husband of nineteen years, Jackson P. Lady; step-daughter, Emily Johnson and husband David; step-grandchildren, Hayden Johnson and Emma Clara Johnson; mother, Sue Jarrett; sister, Shay Mullins and husband Keith; and nephew Dalton Mullins.
Tara will be laid to rest in a private family graveside service at Mt. Home National Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Gary Edwards.

4996 JOHNSON CITY - Ted Johnson, 64, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Ted has worked at Snap-On Tools in Elizabethton for the last 16 years. Ted enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his grandsons and fishing. He often said that his most favorite thing on Earth was to take his grandsons fishing. Ted was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and most of all a friend to so many. Ted touched so many hearts because he was the definition of love. Ted showed love to everyone because he knew that Jesus first loved him, and it overflowed from his life to others.

Ted was a member of The Strong Tower Church in Bristol, TN. He taught adult Sunday School class on Sunday morning and helped with many of the churches outreach projects. Ted also did a podcast that you can find on any outlet called “Sower of Seeds”.

Ted was the son of late A.B. and Edna Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Gail Johnson.; one daughter, Crystal Durbin and her husband Randy; two grandsons, Greyson and Aiden Durbin; two sisters, Judy Campbell and Mildred Loveless and her husband Bobby Loveless; one brother, Joe Johnson and his wife Lois Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

4997 JOHNSON CITY - Ted McKeehan, 87, of Johnson City, TN, went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2021, at Franklin Woods Hospital following a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born on November 30, 1934, to the late John McKeehan Sr. and Hassie Arnett McKeehan.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a sister, Rada Perry; brothers, Louis and Terry McKeehan; and sister-in-law, Rita McKeehan.
Ted was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City.
Ted graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1953 and attended Milligan College. He proudly served in the United States Army for two years and the Army Reserves for seven years.
Mr. McKeehan was employed for 25 years at North American Rayon and retired as Plant Manager from PB&S/Brenntag Chemical.
He was involved with fund raising and coordinating for Habitat for Humanity.
Ted was an avid golfer, Tennessee Vols fan, and a gardener. He was also very active in sports, serving as a High School TSSAA Basketball official for 35 years and 21 years at the college level serving in the NAIA, NCAA Division I & II. Additionally, he was a high school Assigning Officer for 10 years. He played fast pitch softball until the age of 35. He also coached Elizabethton Babe Ruth Baseball for 14 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 30 years, Mary Elizabeth Ward McKeehan of the home; sons, Teddy Wayne and Eddie Eugene (Sherry); daughters, Sherry Ann Hunt (Dave) and Lorri Carver (Ronnie); grandchildren, Brandi Forbes, Whitney Forbes, and Matthew Carver; great-grandchildren, Logan Deakins, Chevy Carver, and Paislee McDonald; sisters, Nancy Verran (Don) and Betty Archer (Ron); brothers, William “Bud” (Loretta), Tony (Jane), Jackie (Kim), and Bobby (Devonna); several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Albert Spaller.
Due to Covid precautions, a graveside service and interment will be conducted at Shell Cemetery (225 Methodist Church St, Piney Flats, TN 37686) at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 21, 2021, under the direction of Dr. Tommy Hood, Senior Pastor.

4998 JOHNSON CITY - Teresa Jill Carden Woodring, 63, Johnson City passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Clifford & Dorothy Campbell Carden. She was a graduate of Hampton High School. Teresa was a loving wife of 37 years. She was a lover of animals.

Survivors include her husband: Dennis Woodring. A Brother: Ronnie Carden, Elizabethton. Two Sisters: Becky (Terry) Brumitt and Karen Heaton all of Hampton. Her Brother-In-Law: Barry "Butch" Woodring of Florida. Several nieces & nephews.

4999 JOHNSON CITY - Teresa “TJ” Jackson, 67, of Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Johnson City, and daughter of the late Betty Ann Arnold.

Teresa spent forty-five years working in administration positions for Ballad Health, retiring from Corporate Audit and Compliance under a Vice President.

She liked to keep her hands busy, usually halfway through a crafting project. If she wasn’t found knitting, she might be found cooking, a talent that allowed her to host most family dinners with no complaints. Teresa also loved to travel, especially if the trip ended at the beach. Whenever she decided to be still, you could count on one of her beloved dogs, Cocoa and Boomer, to be at her side.

In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by: husband, Charles “Wayne” Jackson, and two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Those surviving include: daughter, Rachel Scalf and husband Terrence; son, Jason “Andy” Jackson; sister, Faye Greene and husband Jerry; brothers, Paul Miller and David Miller; grandchildren, Aaron, Kristina, and Kaitlyn; several nieces and nephews including special niece Janice and special nephew John; as well as numerous friends.

The family of Teresa Jackson will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 PM. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM the following day, Friday, February 24, 2023, at Washington County Memory Gardens.

5000 JOHNSON CITY - Terry Lynn Martin, 64, Johnson City, passed away unexpectedly Friday March 8, 2019 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

He was born July 28, 1954 in Elizabethton and raised in Roan Mountain. Terry was a 1972 graduate of Cloudland High School. He was employed at Citi Group in Gray for 25 years. He was of the Baptist Faith. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Fred Jack Martin.

He is survived by his Mother: Christine L. Calhoun Martin of the home, his brother: Anthony L. "Tony" Martin & wife Patsy, His Nephew: Kevin L. Martin & wife Melinda of Knoxville, Several beloved cousins included a special cousin Lara Martin of Knoxville.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019 in the Calhoun Family Cemetery (Heaton Creek) Roan Mountain with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating.
