4851 JOHNSON CITY - Louise Pierce Good, age 91, of Johnson City, TN passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 in the Hermitage Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born to the late Ezekiel Pierce and Maude Kyte Pierce.

Louise was a graduate of Elizabethton High School Class of 1950. She was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed cross stitching, camping, visiting with others and spending time with all her grandchildren. She loved her Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Homer Good; sister, Isabelle Littleton; brother, O.B. Pierce; great-grandson, Mikey Conley and great-great grandson, Parker Roark. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Richard Good (Marlene), of Elizabethton; daughter, Georgette Stewart (Dan), of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Darlene Conley, Danette Roark and Danny Stewart; great-grandchildren, Haley Johnson, Nicholas Conley, Nathan Roark, Jacob Stewart and Melissa Stewart; great-great grandchildren, Kloey Johnson, Kinsley Johnson, Lucas Conley and Blayke Roark and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral service to honor the life of Louise will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2023 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Pastor Louie O’Bourke officiating. The family will receive friends between the hours of 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service on Thursday.

The graveside service and interment will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers are George Conley, Nick Conley, Bobby Roark, Michael Jenkins, Danny Stewart and Nathan Roark. Honorary pallbearers are Jed Dickey, Matt Dickey, Richard Whitson, Bobby Emmert, Elvis Sullivan and Archie Jones.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Hermitage Health and Rehabilitation Center for all their loving care given to Louise.

4852 JOHNSON CITY - Lucy “Ruth” Saults, 94, of Johnson City, died Sunday, June 20, 2021 at the Four Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facility. She was a native of Johnson City and a daughter of the late Houston Henry and Lillie Hill Peters.

Ruth was a longtime employee of Kings Department Store, Baldauf and later Wal-Mart.

She was a member of Lynnwood Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, her husband, George W. Saults, Jr. (1998); a daughter, Patricia Tolley; a son, Kenneth Saults; a grandson, David Jancarek; a great granddaughter, Kelsie Greene all preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Myra Hopkins (Steve), Judith Jancarek (Melvin, Sr.), Rebecca Johnson and Linda Laws; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

The family wishes to express thanks to Four Oaks and Amedisys Hospice for their loving care.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in the Dogwood Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm under the direction of Mr. Glen Keller. A committal service is scheduled for 2:00 pm in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

4853 JOHNSON CITY - Lula Belle Cole Denton, of Johnson City, went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior Saturday, February 12, 2022. She was born on September 26, 1939, to Robert and Gertrude France Cole.
Lula Belle actively lived out her life as a servant of Christ, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was well loved in the Spice Hollow Community where she was born, raised and lived her entire life. She was often seen walking up and down Spice Hollow Road, checking in on family and friends; always offering a helping hand, a listening ear or a delicious home cooked meal.
Her grandchildren carry in their hearts precious memories of their great adventures with "Memaw." She taught them to fish and how to hunt Morel Mushrooms as they walked in the woods surrounding her mountain home. Through her, they learned the joys of picking blackberries on the mountain to later enjoy as jam over her famous star biscuits; to watch the innumerable hummingbirds flying to her feeders while whittling a piece of wood and eating banana popsicles on the porch. She taught them the art of making homemade apple butter outside in the brass kettle. They never seemed to mind the day long process because they were well fed and they had a front row seat to her stories of growing up in "The Holler,'' which she penned in a book entitled "Lula Belle's Book of Memories."
Lula Belle was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ida Bennet and Florence Hill, her brother, Bobby Cole, and a precious sister-in-law, Joyce France.
Left to carry on her Servant Legacy are her husband of 62 years, Charles Denton, her children, Rusty Denton (Kim), Ronny Denton (Donna) and Renee Hill (David), 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Washington County Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 pm.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Denton, Alexander Denton, Jacob Hill, Cameron Shelton, Austin Shelton, and Ernest King.

4854 JOHNSON CITY - Lydia E. Quillen Gamble, age 82, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Abundant Christian Living in Johnson City, Tennessee. She was born in Jonesborough, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Ephriam “Buck” Norris and Millie Tester Norris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1st husband, Reeves M. Quillen; 2nd husband, James “Billy” Gamble; one son-in-law, Ernie Cox, Sr.; one brother and sister-in-law, James Bill Norris and wife Lois; and one sister, Florence White.

Lydia was a housekeeper, and a member of Westerly Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Kay Quillen Cox; her grandchildren, Ernie “Lee” Cox, Jr. and his wife Dawn, and Christie Dawn Cooper and husband Chad; seven great grandchildren, Anthony and wife Brittany Cox, Lita Cox and fiancé Grant Lowe, Brandon Arnett and fiancé Amanda Halverson, Brittani Arnett, Bradley Arnett, Samantha Cooper and Cara Cooper; nine great-great grandchildren, Brayden Cox, Carter Cox, Kyleigh Barnes, Brantley Arnett, Kelly Blake Arnett, Bradley Thomas, Emery Halverson, Jaiden Lowe and Gracie Lowe; two sisters, Willa Vines, and Patsy Rankin; special niece, Angie Leslie and husband Jim; and several nieces and nephews.

Committal Service and Interment will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 3:00 PM at New Bethel Cemetery in Piney Flats, Tennessee, with Rev. Ancel Presnell officiating.

4855 JOHNSON CITY - Mable Orlene Hagy Martin, age 92 of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the Dominion Senior Living in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth James Martin born to them September 6, 1928 in Johnson City, Tennessee. Mable was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. She united in marriage to Charles Anthony Martin, who preceded her in death in 2017.

Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one sister, Edith Schlotzsky.

Mable is survived by her loving children, Nancy Jane Hodges (Robert L. Hodges, III) and Terry A. Martin (Kathy); a sister, Ruby Musick; two brothers, Billy Hagy and James Z. Hagy (Lorena); her loving grandchildren, Robert L. Hodges IV (Alex), Christopher Martin, Kristan Martin and Molly Sheth (Shalin); one great-grandchild, Fin as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends left behind to cherish her memory.

A graveside service to honor Mable’s life will be conducted on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.

4856 JOHNSON CITY - Major(R) Rebecca Jean DePonti, RN, née Potter, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully Tuesday November 16, 2021, at the Waters rehabilitation center of Johnson City. Her parents were General Logan Potter (04/30/1898 -11/17/1983) and Nancy Ethel Potter (09/02/1895-08/28/1983). She was born in old Butler, TN and she and her two brothers, Lionell, Jim and her sister Mary moved to Johnson City with her parents when the Watauga Lake was filled in. She was the youngest of the four siblings.
Rebecca graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1955 and went to college at ETSU graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science from nursing school. She loved people and had a giving heart and enjoyed helping those in need, which was a lifelong pursuit. She practiced nursing for several years in New Orleans before becoming a nursing missionary and travelling abroad in the Middle East, primarily Yemen.
She joined the Army in 1969 and served abroad in Africa, which is where she met her future husband, Pier Luigi DePonti. They were married in 1973 in Eritrea and honeymooned in Kenya. She had her first and only child once they moved from Africa to the United States in South Carolina. She was well travelled and has lived in Fort Sheridan, Chicago Illinois, Vicenza Italy, Fort Sam Houston Texas, Fort Polk Louisiana, Fort Meade Maryland, Fort Campbell Kentucky, and Fort Rucker Alabama until she retired from the military. By the end of her career, she had many distinguished accomplishments, one of which was as serving as the Chief of Preventive Medicine in Fort Rucker. She retired from the Army in 1989 and moved back to the farm in Johnson City where she grew up.
She continued to work for the Red Cross and for independent home health agencies on and off through the 1990’s until retiring from nursing in her 60’s. She volunteered at disaster sites through the red cross after hurricanes when she could and volunteered at the VA and church frequently until her health no longer allowed. She always was kept her walk with God close to her heart and shared this love and her love of others as much as she could. She was a kindhearted soul who will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.
She is survived by her only surviving sibling, Mary Elsie Miller. Other survivors include her husband Pier and son Warren, step-daughter Liliana, daughter in law Jenny and five grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriella, Dario, Liliana, and Luca. She has several surviving nephews, Robert, Steven, and Rick Miller; Joe and John Potter, and one niece, Anne Potter.
The family of Rebecca Jean DePonti will receive friends and extended family on Tuesday, November 23rd from 4-6pm at Morris-Baker Funeral home. The burial service will be presided by Deacon Mike of Saint Mary’s at the VA at Mountain home

4857 JOHNSON CITY - Marcella Jane Hampton Perry, 91, Johnson City, died Monday, February 7, 2022, in the Assisted Living facility of the Abundant Christian Living Community (ACLC) campus.
Jane was a native of Elizabethton, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Thomas Allen and Bessie Junita Chambers Hampton. After moving from Elizabethton, Jane lived in Oak Ridge and Bristol, Tennessee before moving to Johnson City in 1964. She resided at 604 Hillrise Boulevard until her transition to ACLC in late 2021.
Jane was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and spent much of her life helping to mold the lives of young people. She attended elementary school in Carter County, graduated from Elizabethton High School, and attended Milligan College and East Tennessee State University. She prepared herself for a lifelong teaching career by earning a B.S. and M.A. degree in elementary education from East Tennessee State University.
Jane taught school in Carter County, Oak Ridge, Sullivan County, and Bristol, Tennessee before her retirement from full time teaching. After retirement she continued to serve her community and the young people of Johnson City by giving her time to substitute teach and aide teachers in the Johnson City School System. Her teaching was not confined to the classroom. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other young people whom she came in contact with continually received her love, generosity and expert guidance in educational and moral issues.
Jane was a lifelong member of the Christian Church. Since 1964 she was a member of the First Christian Church in Johnson City where she served many years as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was a member of the Johnson City Monday Club and a life time member of the Parent Teacher Association.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Allen Hampton, and a brother-in-law, James Steven Luethke.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 70 years, Cameron Earl Perry; brother, Wayne Hampton and wife Peggy; sister, Carol Luethke; son, Thomas Cameron Perry and wife Ann; daughter, Marcy Jann Conley and husband Creighton; grandchildren, Caitlin Anne Conley Reynolds and husband Ryan, Evan Thomas Perry and wife Anna, Courtney Alyse Conley Tucker and husband Daniel, and Chloe Cameron Perry Campbell and husband Ben; great-grandchildren, Hudson Cameron Perry, Raylen Jane Perry, and Piper Marie Tucker; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Marcella Jane Hampton Perry will be conducted on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. in the First Christian Church of Johnson City with Mr. Gene Wiggington, minister officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday after 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service at 7:00 P.M.
A committal service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. in the Happy Valley Memorial Park with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

4858 JOHNSON CITY - Margaret "Blanche" Garland, 93, of Johnson City passed away at her home Wednesday November 28, 2018.

She was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina and the daughter of the late Robert and Maude Wilson McKinney. Blanche was a long time member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Blanche was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Blanche was a righteous woman who loved the Lord and was always willing to help others. Blanche enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, and gardening.

Blanche is preceded in death by her husband Ray Garland, her three brothers Claude, Cecil, and Marvin Mckinney, and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

Survivors include one son, Michael Garland Sr. and wife Leesa of Nashville, a grandson Michael Garland Jr. and wife Molly of Johnson City, two step grandchildren, Matthew Weaver and wife Whitney, Tyler Scalf of Nashville, three great grandchildren, Mila Garland, Ethan and Evelin Weaver, a sister in law, Bobbie Mckinney, along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday December 3, 2018 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Tetrick Funeral Services 3001 Peoples St. Johnson City Tennessee, 37604, with a funeral service to follow beginning at 3:00pm with Reverend Harold Morelock officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Mountain Home National Cemetery beginning at 1:00pm. Pallbearers will be Richard Garland, Matthew Garland, Robert McKinney, Brian McKinney, Michael Garland Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Weaver, Tyler Scalf, and John Tipton. Everyone who wishes to attend the graveside service is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50pm.

4859 JOHNSON CITY - Margaret Ann Wright, 91, Johnson City stepped inside the Heavenly Gates, Saturday, January 11, 2020 at her residence.

She was a native of Carter County and was a daughter of the late Chester and Elizabeth Bessie Nidiffer Walker. Mrs. Wright was a charter member of the Full Gospel Holiness Church. She was a foster parent, having fostered over 250 children along with her late husband. Mrs. Wright enjoyed gardening, cooking and loved her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Wright in 2017; a sister, Lola Walker; brothers, Carlos, Floyd, Johnny, Lawrence, Lester and Clarence “Bill” Walker; two son-in-laws, Johnny Cross and Jerald Kilby; a grandson, John E. Cross and a granddaughter, Lisa Diane Adams.

Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Cross and Dean Kilby both of Johnson City; a brother, Jack Walker and wife, Charlotte; a sister, Zelma Lyons; four sisters-in-law, Louise Barnett, Betty Wilson, Ruby Walker and Trula Walker; grandchildren, Patricia Williams, Gregory Cross and Richard Kilby; 10 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; over 250 foster children; many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1:30 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2020 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Robert Keller officiating, The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour. Graveside services will follow in the Roselawn Memory Park. Pallbearers will be Ian, Michael and Gregory Cross, Josh Adams, Richard Kilby and Lonnie Stockton. The family would like to give special thanks to Lisa Plaster, Brenda Crawford, Carol Knight, Ava Good, Candace Cross, Helen Stockton, Zelma Lyons, niece, Betty Jean Winters and husband, Danny and to Ballad Hospice for all of the love and compassion that was extended to our family. 4860 JOHNSON CITY - Margaret Anne Tucker Brashears, 81, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at her residence, with her family by her side.

Margaret was native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Charles Maynard and Effie Nola Snyder Tucker.

Margaret was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother and a caregiver to her late husband. Family was the most important thing to Margaret.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael W. Brashears; brothers, Charles Tucker, Jr., Donald Tucker; sister, Barbara Tucker Grubbs.

Survivors include her daughters, Teresa Bailey, Johnson City, Debbie Monk (Tony), Kingsport; stepchildren, Anne Marie Oehmann, Harpers Ferry WV, Joe Brashears, Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Michael, Brandon, Laekyn; sister, Norma Jean Cannon, Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, January 3, 2022 at 11:30 A.M. from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Ave. Johnson City, TN 37601 with Pastor Gene Elliott, officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in Mountain Home National Cemetery Historic Section. Pallbearers will be chosen from friends and family.

4861 JOHNSON CITY - Margaret Cretsinger Branum, 68, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019, at her residence.

Margaret was a life-long resident of Johnson City, and daughter of the late Raymond Ely and Rosland Elmont Cretsinger.

Margaret retired from Newell Corporation.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by: two brothers, Raymond Eugene and John Walter Cretsinger; and one sister, Molly Jane Carver.

Survivors include: her husband, Arthur "Jr." Branum, of Johnson City; one son, Carson Bowling III and his wife Lisa, of Jonesborough; one grandson, Chase Alexander, of Jonesborough; one brother, Garnet Cretsinger and his wife Debbie, of Johnson City; one sister-in-law, Lydia Cretsinger, of Jonesborough; her beloved fur babies; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Vanessa, Shorty and Alisa Carver with Amedysis Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Margaret.

A graveside service will be held at 3 PM Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Monte Vista Memorial Park, with Mr. Joshua Clark officiating.

4862 JOHNSON CITY - Margaret G. Timbs, age 75, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at her home, surrounded by those that loved her.

Margaret was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late William Claude Garland and Mattie Lee Ellis Garland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Roy Eugene Timbs; and a brother, James William Garland.

Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, but had a stubborn and strong willed side. She was employed as an educator at Guildford North Carolina School for four years and she also worked for the Johnson City School System for fifteen years as a substitute teacher. Margaret was of the Baptist faith and was very involved in the Garland Family Research Association. She enjoyed genealogical work, coin collecting, history, cross stitching, fishing and camping.

Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her loving and devoted husband of fifty years, Loyd “Rex” Timbs, of the home; a son, Alan Rex Timbs and wife Stephanie, of Gray, TN; three grandchildren, Allison, Andrew and Aiden Timbs; and a daughter-in-law, Kim Timbs. Many other additional family and dear friends also survive.

It was Margaret’s wish to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

4863 JOHNSON CITY - Margaret Susie Clark, 69, of Johnson City passed away at her residence Wednesday, March 31, 2021 after a lengthy illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Roy Clark Jr. and Charity Marie Hicks Clark. She had worked in Food service and Housekeeping before retirement. Margaret was of the Pentecostal faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, David Lee Clark and a sister, Geneva Jean Clark Tapp.

Survivors include two sisters, Marie J. Smith and Dorene Sandy Clark both of Johnson City: also several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Margaret will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 3, 2021 in the Washington County Memory Gardens for family and friends with Pastor Roy Reed officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.

4864 JOHNSON CITY - Margaret “Coby” Ingram, 85, Johnson City, died on Friday, June 18, 2021, at her residence with her family by her side.

Coby was a native of Johnson City and a daughter of the late William “Bill” and Veda Pierce Alford.

Coby worked at Giant Food Market/Food Lion for many years until her retirement. After retirement she enjoyed working at Bargains on Broadway. She loved going to the beach and spending lots of time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents Coby was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Lawrence Ingram, siblings, Billy Alford, Betty Hyder, Judy Keene, Houston “Beau” Alford.

Those left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Teresa Ingram Bennett; grandson and her special light, Sebastian Bennett; sister, Teresa Piercy; her fur baby and constant companion, Twilight; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; a lot of special friends throughout life.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Grindstaff, officiating.

The graveside committal will follow the service at 1:00 p.m. in Roselawn Memorial Park. She was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Horace Monroe Ledwell and Mary Josephine Light Ledwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, William Paul “Bill” Grindstaff; one daughter, Sheron Boles; one granddaughter, Brittany Pritchard; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Goodman; one great-great-grandson, Mason Conner; two brothers, and one sister.

Margie had previously attended Keystone Freewill Baptist Church when her health allowed.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Hodge, Barbara Furches, Cindy Abel, and Janis Swanner; her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Ledwell and Ron Ledwell; and extended family.

Committal Service and Interment will be held Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 11:00AM at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Chaplain Ron Land officiating. Pallbearers will be family.

4866 JOHNSON CITY - Marian D. Onks, age 86, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at The Courtyards in Johnson City.

She was born in Greene County in 1934 to the late Theodore Roosevelt Dinwiddie and the late Della Maude Pickering Dinwiddie. She was a graduate of Greeneville High School and ETSU. She had a major in Elementary Education and had taught in the Johnson City school system and Ft. Benning, Georgia school system while her husband was stationed there.

Marian married the love of her life James A. “Jim” Onks in December 1955. They had been married for 59 years when Jim passed away in 2015. Marian and Jim were both lifelong Presbyterians and longtime members of Westminster Presbyterian. She began playing the piano for church at the age of 10 years old and she played either piano or organ for many years thereafter.

Marian and Jim were not only man and wife, but they were also best friends and loved being active in church, traveling, and dancing.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marian was preceded in death by two brothers, infant William H. Dinwiddie and Glen Dinwiddie; a nephew, Michael Dinwiddie; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by two sons, Ted Onks of Bristol, TN and Scott (and Holly) Onks of Kingsport; two sisters-in-law, Priscilla Starnes and Ruth Dinwiddie; and special friends, Patsy Crum, Jane Ogle, and Dawn Hancock.

Marian’s family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30 pm on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral will follow the visitation, beginning at 1:30 pm, under the direction of Pastor Andy Wyatt. The graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 pm at Washington County Memory Gardens.

4867 JOHNSON CITY - Marilyn Sue Howell Andes, 68, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at the home she shared with her loving daughter and caregiver, Melissa.

She was born in Johnson City, a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Ellen Howell.

For over 40 years, Marilyn worked at Williams Electric Supply.

Marilyn woke up every day to make someone else smile. She tried to keep things silly and always get a laugh when she could, from friends, family, and strangers alike. Time spent with her family was always cherished. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Michael Ray Andes, in 2019. She felt blessed to be part of the Andes family, and appreciated the time she shared with the siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends that marriage brought her.

Those left to cherish her memory are: two children, Melissa Howell, Jason Andes and wife Stacee; siblings, Steve Howell and wife Judee, Brenda Fillers and husband Roger, and Betty Jean “BJ” Howell; four grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; and she will be missed greatly by her grandpup Riley, whom kept her company and looked closely after her.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Famoyin and his team for the kindness and care they gave Marilyn throughout her illness.

Marilyn would never be able to accept getting anybody else sick, and per her wishes there will be no public services held in order to follow COVID-19 safety regulations. She will be interred in a private family service at Barnett Cemetery, officiated by Jeremy Dykes.

4868 JOHNSON CITY - Mark Earl Malone, age 56, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City, following an extended illness. Mark was born in Elizabethton on June 20, 1965 to the late Earl D Malone. In addition to his father, Mark was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Oates, his paternal grandparents, Earl and Chessie Bare Malone.

Mark enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, watching UT Football, listening to classic rock and especially being a “pappy” to his beautiful granddaughter, Presley Woods.

4869 JOHNSON CITY - Martha Gale Rambo Holden, age 86, Johnson City, (formerly of Elizabethton where she spent most of her life), passed away peacefully on Sunday November 12, 2017 and is safely in the arms of her Lord.

She was born in Mountain City, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Earl Tipton & Ruth Reece Rambo.

Martha was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and Steed College. She was a secretary for Johnson City Insurance Company, (formerly Wofford Brothers), where she worked for State Representative James H. Quillen. She was executive secretary to two past presidents of Elizabethton Federal Savings and Loan Association in Elizabethton. She completed her working career as a secretary at the Carter County Court Clerk's Office.

She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton. She loved the Lord and provided a listening ear to many friends and family members through the years, always ready to give encouragement and love.

Martha was a very community-oriented individual. She was a member of the Woman's Civic Club for many years where she served in several capacities including past president. She was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and was a delegate to the State American Heart Association Annual Meeting.

In addition to her parents and brother James Samuel "Jim" Rambo, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bill Holden.

Those remaining to cherish Martha's memory include: a daughter & son-in-law: Mikki & Rocky Crowe of Johnson City, a grandson: Weston Crowe of Johnson City, a sister: Earline Barron of Petaluma, California, a sister-in-law: Shirley Rambo of Elizabethton, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and beloved dog, Addie.

4870 JOHNSON CITY - Mary Ann Keefauver Martin, 89, Johnson City, died Monday, January 27, 2020, at Grace Living Personal Care Home, Marietta, GA, following a brief illness.

Mary Ann was born in Jonesborough, and was a lifelong Washington County resident. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Beulah Saylor Keefauver.

Mary Ann retired in 1986 as Assistant Vice-President from First American National Bank following thirty-eight years of service, and following retirement worked at First Tennessee Bank until 2000.

She was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church and the Mary Keefauver Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Eugene Martin, in 2007, and her brother, Harold Keefauver.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Jean Martin Collins and husband Timothy, Kennesaw, GA; her granddaughter, Kelsi Austin Collins, Kennesaw; her great-granddaughter, Kameron Hadley Collins, Kennesaw; two nieces, Peggy Proffitt and Freda Keefauver; two nephews, Johnny Keefauver and Randy Keefauver.

The funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 31, 2020, at 1:00 P.M., from the sanctuary of Boones Creek Christian Church, with David Clark and Dick Morris, Ministers, officiating.

4871 JOHNSON CITY - Mary Dunn Letterman, 94, of Johnson City passed peacefully surrounded by family at NHC Healthcare on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.

She was born in Washington County, Tennessee on May 13, 1924, the daughter of the late William and Dora Seaton Dunn.

Mary was a member of Westerly Heights Baptist Church for 55 years. She gladly accepted the many roles she was asked to perform – Sunday school teacher, clerk, treasurer, choir member, and pianist.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Donald Letterman; her eldest son Jerry Letterman; a brother, William Dunn; three sisters, Alice Dunn, Jessie Nidiffer, and Frances Taylor; and two special nieces, Sondra Foutch and Louise Servente.

She is survived by two daughters, Lillian Babb and Anne Casteel (Cecil); three sons, Tony Letterman (Karen), Ray Letterman (Nancy), and Sid Letterman (Cathye); a daughter-in-law, Oi Lin Letterman; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Allen and Brenda Frost, who she lovingly referred to as son and daughter.

The Letterman family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Morris-Baker in the Dogwood Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm, officiated by Dr. Chuck Babb. She was a native of Elizabethton and was the daughter of the late Joseph “Hook” Hardin and Ettie Belle Miller Hardin. Mrs. Rigsby was a Baptist by faith and had worked for Hammond Organ and Mayes Brothers. She enjoyed yard sales, visiting God’s Corner, gardening, especially raising and eating tomatoes and she loved cats. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Clyde Rigsby in 1998; also a brother, Carroll B. Hardin.

Survivors include her three daughters, Linda English and husband, John of Johnson City, Janie Chase of Johnson City and Judy Pippin and husband, Tom of Smyrna, Tennessee; three step-daughters, Lola Harmon, Rose Turbyfield and Joy McQueen; a granddaughter, Heather Rigsby and Chris Keller of Johnson City; great-grandchildren, Aspen Oliver, Isaiah Oliver and Riley Cobin; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

4874 JOHNSON CITY - Mary Evelyn Keefauver McCall, 92, Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at NHC of Johnson City, following a period of declining health.
Born in Washington County on January 10, 1929, to the late Bryan and Anna Ruth Cox Keefauver, Evelyn grew up in Boones Creek and resided in Johnson City for most of her life. She will be remembered as a loving and devote wife, mother, mamaw, great grandmother and friend. She was a talented homemaker who enjoyed hosting Sunday evening dinners and holiday dinners for her family. Evelyn worked in retail for over 50 years. Early on in her career, she worked in Dossers, and would travel to Atlanta and Charlotte to buy for their china and giftware department. Evelyn then moved to the mall where she worked for Proffits, Parks Belk and Belk. She loved helping her customers find the right outfit.
She was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church and attended Clark Street Baptist Church. In past years, Evelyn enjoyed local travel trips with the Young at Heart Clark Street Seniors.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by: her husband of over 50 years, Billy J. McCall; sister, Madeline Overbay; brother-in-law, Don Overbay; and nephew, Leon Overbay.
Survivors include: her son, Ed McCall and his wife Mary Ann, of Kingsport; grandchildren, Melissa McCall and her husband Josh Jessee and Lilly McCall; great granddaughter, Addison Jessee; and two very special friends, Juanita Chandler and Sarah Greer.

She was a native of Lex, West Virginia and the daughter of the late Glen E. Tweed and Oda Kate Grindstaff. Mary worked in textile, banking and property management occupations before retiring.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Campbell, her stepfather, Marsh Miller, sister, Katie Wallace and brothers, Charles and Mickey Grindstaff.

4876 JOHNSON CITY - Mary Louise Dugger Jackson, 82, Johnson City, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at her home.

She was born at home in Old Butler, Johnson County, TN on May 5, 1934 to the late Daniel Boone Dugger and Dessie Mae McKinnis.

She attended her first seven and one half years of elementary school at Butler Elementary School. When the town of Butler was relocated due to construction of Watauga Dam, she completed her elementary school at Cobb's Creek Elementary School. She graduated valedictorian in 1952 from Johnson County High School. She attended East Tennessee College for one year taking a business course. She worked at the Music Mart in downtown Johnson City for three years, quitting when her first child was born. She was a stay at home mom until she returned to work in 1985 at Parks-Belk in the alterations department. She retired in 1994. She was a member of North Johnson City Baptist Church and taught Sunday school there for 25 years. She loved to garden, crochet, and was an excellent seamstress.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband of 48 years and the love of her life, Randolph Jackson.

4877 JOHNSON CITY - Mary Loyd Stribling, 92, Johnson City, entered into rest on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at her residence surrounded by family.

Mrs. Stribling was born in Mountain City, TN November 24, 1923 to the late Walter and Ethel Forrester Loyd. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Dr. Herman A. Stribling, Jr. and her brother Mr. James F. Loyd.

Mrs. Stribling devoted her life to the service of others whether it was in the classroom or in her community. She will be best remembered as a most caring and beloved schoolteacher. She received her B.S. in Education from ETSU in 1945. While she taught at several schools throughout her 33-year career, she is most often associated with her time at Towne Acres Elementary. It was during her time there she was awarded Teacher of the Year for K-4 in 1986 for her school and district. As one parent of a student recalled, Mrs. Stribling was the "type of teacher who touches your heart, makes you want to learn, want to get up eagerly and go to school, want to do good, and make you do things you never thought you could do."

Mrs. Stribling was a member of the National Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, Johnson City Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma (past president), Phi Delta Kappa, and Business & Professional Women's Club (past president). She served on the Superintendent's Advisory Council, Southern Association Accreditation Committee, and Methodist Church Board. She received many accolades during her lifetime including, Outstanding Educator of the South, Honorary Life Member PTA, Silver Poet Award (World of Poetry) '86, Outstanding Leaders in Elementary & Secondary Education '76.

Mrs. Stribling was of the Christian faith and attended Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter Dr. Vickie Grist and husband Dr. Dana Grist of Johnson City, TN; her son Dr. Buddy Stribling and wife Mrs. Debbie Stribling of Kingsport, TN; Four grandchildren Mrs. Jennifer Hite and husband Mr. Daniel Hite of Jonesborough, TN, Dr. Kathryn Grist of Johnson City, TN, Ms. Madison Stribling and Mr. Alex Stribling of Kingsport, TN; Great-Grandson Finnegan Hite of Jonesborough, TN; Sister-In-Law Mrs. Mildred Loyd, Houston, TX; Two nephews Mr. Leonard Loyd and wife Mrs. Karen Loyd of Cypress, TX, and Mr. Paul Loyd and wife Mrs. Barbara Loyd of Fredericksburg, TX.

Mary was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church, as well as Beta Sigma Phi of Johnson City. She and her late husband Murel were co-owners of Clutch and Brake Supply Company, Johnson City and Clutch and Brake of Asheville until they retired in 2004.

She is survived by her daughters: Mary Gail Matherly Keown (Larry) of Calhoun, GA and Melissa Matherly Clemons (Phil) of Kingsport; son, Roger Matherly (Mary June) of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Josh Keown (Brandi) of Resaca, GA and Lindsey Keown of Woodstock, GA; Katherine Clemons Conaway (Chris) of Atlanta, GA and Suzanne Clemons of Kingsport; great-grandchildren: Jessica Lockard and Harper Grace Keown; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Mary was a homemaker and was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Susie was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren. She was an avid bowler. Susie was of the Baptist faith.

4881 JOHNSON CITY - Mary “Gladys” Weaver, age 93, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2023, at her home.

A lifelong resident of Johnson City, Gladys was born on May 5, 1929, to the late Alfred Babb and Rettie Ann Medlin Babb. She married the love of her life, Frank Weaver, on June 22, 1950, and together they raised two daughters. Gladys was not only a homemaker, but she was also an exceptional caregiver.

Gladys was of the Pentecostal faith, and she attended services at Prayer Tabernacle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1991; sisters, Lena and Wanda; and brothers, Otis, Guy, Dayton, Alfred Jr., Marshal, Carson, Arch, Freddie, Marvin, and David Head.

4882 JOHNSON CITY - Maud Proffitt, age 89, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at NHC Healthcare.

Maud was born in Butler, Tennessee to the late Hobert and Fannie Wilson Osborne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Loveless; three brothers, J.C. Osborne, Kenneth Osborne and Bill Osborne; and two sisters, Dean Barnett and Delores Cooper.

Maud was a homemaker and was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church since 1973 and had served as a Sunday School teacher for 30 years. She loved to cook and enjoyed gardening.

4883 JOHNSON CITY - Max. E. Churchill, 60, of Johnson City, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017, in Elizabethton. He was born in Council Bluffs, IA, a son of the late Max Kenneth and Norma Day Churchill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Jeannine Yarber.

Mr. Churchill was the owner and operator of Churchill Plumbing and was a member of Boone Trail Baptist Church. He loved sports, especially football and baseball, and delighted in watching his sons play.

A daughter of the late Reverend Calvin and Rita Peterson Barnett she was a native of Mitchell County, NC. She was a member of Beans Creek Church of Jesus Christ. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include: her husband Ernest H. Garland, of the home, two sons; Richard D. Garland (Betty), of Baltimore, MD, and Roger C. Garland, of Johnson City, TN, one daughter Teresa L. Curtis, of Johnson City, TN, four sisters; Edna Garland, Charlotte Maxwell, Carrie Pritchard, and Carolyn Oaks, seven brothers; Arnold, Gaylan, Michael, David, Danny, Jackie, and Jerry Barnett. four grandchildren; Jessica Trent, James Curtis, Patty Garland, and Tommy Garland, five great grandchildren; Shannon Peterson, Evan Peterson, Kadynn Trent, Taylor and Colt Garland.

4885 JOHNSON CITY - Maynard McCoy Crowe, 87, Johnson City, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 4, 2019 at his home, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Crowe was born November 25, 1931 in Sullivan County to the late Goldie Reece Crowe and Carmel Crump Crowe.

He was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church.

Maynard was a 1952 graduate of Boones Creek High School, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball all four years and ran track. He played semi-pro baseball.

Mr. Crowe was involved with sports for most of his life; either playing, officiating, selling tickets, or as a spectator. He started his officiating career in 1961 where he called games for the TSSAA and the Johnson City Park and Recreation where he worked for 35 years in many capacities.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy Chinouth Crowe; his parents; brother, Carl Crowe and sister Maye Crowe.

Maynard is survived by his three children; Donna Ellen Crowe; Steven Maynard Crowe and wife, Carol; and Ann Noel Crowe. Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren: Shannon Maddox and husband, Nick (Ansley, Ellen and Hadley); Brandon Crowe and wife, Rebekah (Cainan, Corban and Cooper); Martin Tingelhoff and wife, Bethany (Ethan, Asher and Harper); Nicholas Crowe and wife, Micah (Brooklyn, Leighton and Marley); Amanda Crowe; Alec Tingelhoff and Austin Tingelhoff. Sister: Rhea Crowe Calloway and husband, Joel; Sister-in-Law: Susanne Wacks Chinouth. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

His Granddaughter, Amanda Crowe has graciously been his full time Caregiver for the past eleven months.

4886 JOHNSON CITY - Melvin Blake Trivett, 65, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Trivett was born on September 17, 1952, to the late Ulysses G. and Mary Lenos Trivett in Johnson City, TN, where he lived all his life. Mr. Trivett was a 1971 graduate of Science Hill High School. Some people will best remember him riding his motorcycle all over town and in the mountains. He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, dancing, and playing pool. His favorite board game was "Risk". In his younger years, he was famous for predicting upcoming music legends, such as the Bee Gees and the Eagles. He was so talented and intelligent, he built a working radio station that broadcasted in our area, from his backyard in his sister's dollhouse that their dad had built.

Mr. Trivett leaves behind a son, Michael Trivett and his wife Amanda; a sister, Sherri Kay and her husband Alvin Elrod; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Richard Sproles and his friend Melinda for their special friendship to Mr. Trivett.

4887 JOHNSON CITY - Michael Ray Andes, 69, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, after an eight year battle with cancer.

He was a native of Johnson City, and a son of the late Carl and Nell Barnett Andes.

Michael served his country in the Vietnam War.

He loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by: one sister, Judy Clark; and one niece, Joy Harvey.

4888 JOHNSON CITY - Mike A. Potter, 73, Johnson City passed away Monday, October 31, 2022 after a brief illness in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late Jesse Reed Potter and Florence Bell Potter. Mike was a faithful member of McKinley Memorial Bible Church. He loved his Pastor and church family. Mike was a U.S. Marine veteran having served his country in Vietnam. He was a racing legend, having raced locally and making 60 NASCAR Cup Series starts. Mike also made many starts in the Late Model Sportsman Series and 21 starts in the Xfinity Series. He raced from 1968 until 2021. Mike had several business ventures including owning Surplus Brokers in Johnson City.

Survivors include his brother, Gary L. Potter and his wife, Linda and their daughter, Charlene Morton and husband, Steven all of Johnson City; his special friends, Pastor Lennie Smith, Debbie Fitzgerald, church family and all of his racing friends.

She was born in Carter County, a daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Miller Salts.

Mildred loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and was a hard worker throughout her life. She had attended service at the Johnson City Church of God.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Bobby J. Holly Sr., of the home; two sons, Bobby Holly Jr. and Angela B. Holly, and Scott Holly and his significant other, Penny Babb; one daughter, Debra Holly Bowman and her husband Kenneth; three brothers, Bob Salts, Lynn Salts, and Larry Salts and his wife Genevieve; six grandchildren, Mary Bowman Howell and her husband Jeremy Howell, Holly Bowman, Jacob Bowman, Paul Holly, Joshua Holly and Kayla Holly; great grandchildren, Nila Holly, William Bowman, Emma Howell, Joshua Jawayne Holly, Rose Holly, Kaydence Metcalf and Rayden Metcalf; several nieces and nephews; and her closest companion, Bobby the Chi-Pom.

4892 JOHNSON CITY - Miss Wendy Jo Laws, age 50, of Johnson City, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Wendy was a native of Avery County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Elmer W. Laws Sr. and Martha Keener Laws Hensley.

Wendy worked for the Dawn of Hope for many years. She had a special love for the individuals she supported, and they for her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nephew Matthew McWilliams.

She is survived by her cherished son, Jeffery Sherill Hughes, fondly referred to as JJ. She and JJ shared an incredible bond. JJ was the light of Wendy’s life. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. Bob retired from Stowers Machinery as a Diesel Mechanic. He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church.

4894 JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Dale Allen McKinney, 61, of Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital. He was the son of the late David Alden and Margie Ann Treadway McKinney and was born in Carter County.

Mr. McKinney was a 1973 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a Vietnam Era Veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed football, singing and playing his guitar and listening to and writing music. He was a cast member of the movie "The River" in which he played a deputy sheriff. Dale was of the Christian faith.

Those left to cherish his memory include two brothers, D.R. McKinney; Rick "Doc" McKinney and his wife, Janie; a sister, Debbie Berry and her husband, Keith; all of Elizabethton; three nieces, Sara Berry Wagner and her husband, Stephen, Elizabethton; Leslie Godfrey and her husband, Jonathan, Knoxville, Holly Bulla and her husband, John, Elizabethton; and his companion dog, Boy. 4896 JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Fred B. Huskins, 82, of Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

Fred was a resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Woodward and Verna Huskins.

Fred was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a US Army veteran, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Fred retired with forty years of service as an Equipment Supervisor with Summers Taylor. He was an avid Wood Turner, and after he retired, he taught Wood Turning at WoodCraft. One of the prized pieces he made was that of a guitar that he and his son worked on together.

Fred was a race fan as well as a UT VOLS fan of all sports. He was a Mason with the Johnson City Lodge # 486.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his son, David Huskins.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-five years, Geraldine “Jeri” Huskins; children, Kathy Huskins and her husband Michael Sawchuk, Dan McClaskey and his wife Tina, Doug McClaskey and Diane McClaskey; one brother, Dennis Huskins and his wife Carol; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and two nephews.

4897 JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Gary Tyrus Wheelock, 74, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, in Lakebridge Skilled Nursing Center.

Gary was a resident of Johnson City most of his life. He was the son of the late Alfred and Juanita Rosenbaum Wheelock.

After school, Gary was a soldier in the Vietnam war where he received numerous medals. He received Sharpshooter ranking in the Army. After his time in the service was complete, he was a man of many talents doing work in construction, welding, pipefitting, gunsmith and mechanics. Gary built a custom home for his family completely by himself in Bakersville, NC. He retired from Bosch as a Journeyman pipefitter.

Gary’s interests include guns, building, riding his motorcycle, playing the bass guitar, and his church activities. He was a devout Christian and performed many roles in the church: member, deacon, and preacher. He also had a passion for baseball that he got from his father. He built the Buladean, NC community baseball field and coached for several years. He was also one of the builders of Wetlands water park in Jonesborough, TN.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by one brother, Ross Wheelock.

Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Brenda Young Wheelock; two sisters, Coy Blevins and Donna Aston and her husband Gerry, and two brothers, Roscoe Wheelock and Arlin(Merlin) Wheelock and his wife Serena; four daughters, Shawn Kerree Harvey and her husband Vaughn, Tekii Boren and her husband Chris, Anna Campbell and Christena Young; four grandchildren, Tyler Young, Ben Wheelock, Nicole Wheelock and Sarah Boren; several nieces and nephews; Steve Blevins, Scott Blevins, Marty Dowell, Nina Dowell-Williams, Chase Beauregard, Dillion Beauregard, Cheyanne Smith and Arlin Wheelock.

The family of Mr. Gary Tyrus Wheelock will have a military honors funeral service at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, in Johnson City, TN at 1 PM, January 13, 2023. The family will be meeting at the cemetery at 12:50 PM. The Veterans Honor Guard DAV #39 will accord military honors.

4898 JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Gene C. Gouge, 89, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
Gene was born on January 6, 1933, and grew up in Carter County, but lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was the son of the late Dalton and Lona Gouge. He graduated from Happy Valley High School and attended ETSU. One of his proudest moments was being a member of the Happy Valley High School basketball team who were State Champions in 1950. He was an US Army veteran and served during the Korean era.
Gene married his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Jones Gouge. They had three children, Mark and his wife Melinda, Gina Speropulos and husband Pete and Eric Gouge; three grandchildren, Peter Speropulos and wife Jess, Nicholas Speropulos and Caroline Gouge; seven little grand-daughters; their beloved little dog Madaline Rose; several nieces and nephews.
Gene worked for Pet Dairy delivering milk and retired as a supervisor. Upon retirement, Gene became a member at Pine Oaks Golf Club and played golf often and also volunteered as a ranger for years. He was also an avid ETSU basketball fan, and he loved the Atlanta Braves.
Gene and Betty were founding members of Boone Trail Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. In the last few years, they became members of Pinecrest Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two brothers, Murriel and Vernon Gouge; sister, June Gouge Miller.
A graveside committal service for Mr. Gene C. Gouge will be conducted at 1 pm Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Garry Edwards officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The Veterans Honor Guard DAV #39 will accord military honors.

4899 JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Howard Perry, age 85, of Johnson City, TN passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at his residence.

A native of Carter County, TN he was the son of the late Earnest L. Perry and Pansy Campbell Perry. Mr. Perry retired from Raytheon after thirty-six years of service. Following his retirement, he worked seventeen years with Murray Guard. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and helped work in the food pantry. Mr. Perry enjoyed gardening, loved sports, especially baseball, and watching his grandchildren play sports.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Perry and three sisters, Blanche Sass, Norma Carrier and Trula Bullock. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-two years, Evelyn Bageant Perry, of the home; a son, Dr. Tim Perry and wife Ronda, Kingsport, TN; three special sons, Adam Reeser and wife Ashley, Andrew Reeser and wife Ashley, and Nathaniel Horton and wife Kristen, all of Johnson City; special grandchildren, Lauren Reeser, Landon Reeser, Caleb Reeser, Logan Reeser, Caleb Faulk and Christopher Horton and two sisters, Linda Persinger, Bluff City, TN and Judy Dowell, of Pennsylvania.

A service to honor the life of Mr. Howard Perry will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 27, 2019 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Scott Thompson officiating. Eulogy will be given by Dr. Tim Perry. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday prior to the service or at the residence at other times.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:45 A.M. on Thursday, March 28, 2019 in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be R. H. Milhorn, Roger Cooper, Carlos Smith and Gene Bullock.

4900 JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Hubert Barnett, 91, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday November 2 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Johnson City.

He attended Lamar High School & retired from ASG of Kingsport. After retirement he drove a school bus for Washington County Schools.

Hubert proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

He was a motorsports enthusiast that built, repaired and raced cars. He had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson, fishing and the Atlanta Braves.

He was married to Marie Markland for 62 years. He took excellent care of her for the last 17 years in the home, after she suffered a severe stroke.

He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church, but recently attended Keystone Freewill Baptist.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marie; brothers, Lloyd Barnett and Clifford Barnett; sisters, Neil Andes and Christine Barnett and great grandson, Eian Bradley Adams.

Survivors include Sons, Timothy & Wife Sandra Barnett and John Barnett; Sister, Shirley Lane; three daughters, Carolyn Presnell, Gail and husband Mike Lowery of Johnson City, Karen and husband James Moncieur of Greenville; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

The Barnett family will receive friends from 12:00 PM til 1:00 PM Saturday, November 5, at Tetrick Funeral Services in Johnson City, TN. The funeral service will follow with Reverend Jerry Stout officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, in Barnett Cemetery in Johnson City, TN.

Pallbearers include: Scotty Hill, Mike Lowery, Michael Lowery, John Barnett, Tim Barnett and Keith Fair.
