4601 JOHNSON CITY - Argielee Cook Williams, 87, Johnson City, died Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Argielee was born in Little Rock Creek, NC to the late Rev. Roosevelt “Rose” and Carrie McKinney Cook.

Argielee was first and foremost a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved all of her babies. Argielee was a kind and compassionate woman who put everyone’s needs before her own. She was a good Christian woman.

In addition to her parents Argielee was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Garner Williams, and brother, Bishop Dallas Cook.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ricky Williams (Sherry), Randy Williams (Lisa), Ronnie Williams (Tabitha), Robbie Williams (Jennifer), Ronnie Williams Jr. (Kayla); grandchildren, Rick, Jason, Ashley, Allen, Sarah, Robbie, Paige, Jasmine, Tiffany; several great-grand babies; sister Betty McCool (Bishop Billy); brother, Mack Cook; special friends, Walter and Patsy Blevins.

The funeral service for Argielee will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Bishop Billy McCool, officiating. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The family requests those who are in attendance please wear a mask.

The graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, June 20, 2021 in Roselawn Memorial Park, Johnson City. Pallbearers will be Argielee’s grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be, Walter Blevins, Jimmy Bowers, and Jimmy Elliott.

4602 JOHNSON CITY - Arlene Beatrice Stinson, age 73 of Johnson City, TN, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Hampton, Tennessee and was a daughter of the late Carmal and Fannie Bell Glover Jackson. Arlene retired from Wal-Mart after 28 years of service. She loved baking, her family, especially her grandchildren and her dog, Charlie. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Arnold Jackson, Gene Jackson, and Joyce Woodby.

Arlene was born on January 11, 1949, in Hampton, TN. She graduated from South Greene High School in 1967. She married the love of her life, Boyd, in 1971. They welcomed Wesley in 1976 and Brian in 1978.

1 John 4:7 tells us, “God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him”. Arlene was the perfect embodiment of the love of Jesus Christ. She was kind, caring, and compassionate. Arlene was a friend to everyone she met. She was a loving wife and mother and adored her grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Robert Boyd Stinson, sons Wesley (Danielle) and Brian (Ashley), grandchildren, Megan, Josh, McKinnley, Noah, Emily, Isaiah, Taylor, and Elin, great-grandchild, Gage, and siblings, Lois Ragno and Roy Jackson; also several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Arlene is scheduled for Friday, September 23, 2022 at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Gary Hill officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 to 1:30 PM. The funeral will begin at 1:30. Graveside services will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.

4603 JOHNSON CITY - Arthur "Artie" Jackson Whitehead, Jr. of Johnson City, TN passed away on Saturday, July 13 at home.

He was born on October 20, 1953 to late Arthur Whitehead Sr. and the late Betty Mathis Whitehead in Johnson City Tennessee.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his older brother, Larry Whitehead; and his grandson, Max Spears.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Whitehead of Jonesborough, TN; his daughter, Jennifer Whitehead Spears and Roger Spears and two grandchildren, Brittnee Nave and Roger Spears Jr. of Johnson City, TN; four sisters, Sharon Smith of Johnson City, Sheila and John Goins of Huntsville, AL, Becky and Denny Doggett of Mount Pleasant, NC and Nancy and Al Hall of Johnson City, TN; and two brothers, Steve and Fran Whitehead of Johnson City, TN and Gary and Cora Whitehead of Erwin, TN; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Artie was employed at several places in his lifetime. First at Interstate Foundry, before going on to work at Allied Piping briefly, and then for City of Johnson City for over 20 years reading water meters.

In his free time Artie enjoyed going to festivals with his wife and loved his cats and dogs as his other children. Anyone who met him was instantly drawn to his happy and sweet personality.

A Celebration of Life to honor Artie is planned for September.

4604 JOHNSON CITY - Arthur Blaine "Butch" Carr, Johnson City, passed away on April 3, 2019 at his residence.

He was born in Johnson City on April 15, 1941, to Marion R. and Pauline Y. Carr.

Butch was a US Navy veteran and the owner of Butch Carr's Toy Store and Young's Warehouse.

He was a longtime, active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church until his illness.

He was a proud member of both the Washington County Republican Party and B.P.O.E. (Elks) Lodge 825 where he was very involved with children's activities, running the Hoop Shoot contests for boys and girls aged 6-12 for many years, and helping with the Coy Trivette Shoe Fund that provided shoes for Washington County children in need of shoes. He also volunteered his time to assist with applications for Elk's Scholarships and Elk's Nursing Scholarships. A self-described humorist, Butch truly enjoyed making people laugh through jokes, pranks, stories, anecdotes and tall tales.

Mr. Carr was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Julia Grace Avery Jensen.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Harriette Cheek Carr; daughter, Aneita Gayle Carr of Johnson City; son, Cullen Blaine Carr of Asheville, NC; son, John Carr (Kayla) of Kingston Springs, Tennessee; sister Joanne (Jack) Haga, Lexington, Kentucky; and niece Cynthia Sugg, Maryville, TN. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sandra Cheek of Lexington, SC, and niece Wende Miller of Gaston, SC, nephew Charles Cullen Cheek III (Dana) of Columbia, SC, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Sunset Drive on Sunday, April 7th at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Helphinstine officiating.

4605 JOHNSON CITY - Barbara Jean Hundley, 83, Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2021, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Barbara was born in Johnson City to the late James and Ruby Truelove Willingham.
Barbara graduated from Science Hill High School in 1956 and went on to attend East Tennessee State University.
After attending ETSU, she married and moved to Lexington, Kentucky. She returned to Bristol, TN in 1962 where she raised her family until the fall of 1973. She then returned to Johnson City in 1974, where she started working at the First Tennessee Development District as an executive assistant until her retirement in 1999.
Barbara was a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City. She volunteered with various church activities, participated in the church choir, and was also a member of the JOY (Just Old Youth) Club.
Barbara was truly someone special, so kind and caring, and a blessing to everyone around her. We will miss her here on Earth, but we also know that she lived her life to the fullest. She travelled the world, loved her church family, and was always up for her next adventure. Barbara loved to read and work puzzles. She also loved watching golf on television and was always ready for college football in the fall. She enjoyed playing cards and Bunco with many of her close friends. Her strength and love for her family will always be admired and stands as a legacy for us all to follow.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by: her husband, Thomas H. Hundley; one brother, Jimmy Willingham; one niece, Amy Willingham; and one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Ryann.
Surviving relatives include: brothers, Lewis Willingham (Jenny Willingham), Kenneth Willingham (Glenda Willingham), and Charles Willingham (Jane Willingham); one son, Troy Dale Hundley (Debi Hundley); two daughters, Terry Lynn Henson (Perry Henson) and Tracy Layne Irvin (Randy Irvin); four grandchildren, Dustin Ray Henson, Leah Christine Henson Frazier (Jacob Frazier), Kaylie Raquel Hundley Bourgeois (Travis Bourgeois), and Drew Thomas Hundley; and two great-grandchildren, Brant Thomas Bourgeois and Isla Grey Bourgeois.
The family of Barbara Hundley will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 6:00 PM. Pallbearers include: Drew Hundley, Dustin Henson, Jacob Frazier, Perry Henson, Randy Irvin and Bill McKinney.

4606 JOHNSON CITY - Barbara Ruth Goodwin, 65, of Johnson City, went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 14, 2019 at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City.

She was born in Elizabethton, a daughter of the late Albert and Nola Yelton Hyder.

Barbara was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church, where she was a preschool teacher in the Livewire Children's Ministry for over nine years. She was a devout Christian and was part of the Explorer Bible Study group for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Goodwin; and three sisters, Brenda York, Marrian Smith, and Jewel Richardson.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Goodwin; a stepdaughter, Patsy Hayes; a stepdaughter, Lois Brady and her husband, Ron; a stepdaughter, Donna Mitchell and her husband, Fred; a stepson, Gary Goodwin; a brother, Carl Hyder and his wife Donna; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The Goodwin family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019 in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel and will be officiated by Dr. Michael Oaks. The committal service will be held at 3:00 pm at Rittertown Baptist Church cemetery in Hampton, TN. Family and friends are requested to gather at the cemetery at 2:50 pm.

4607 JOHNSON CITY - Barbara Sue Grindstaff Allen, 71, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Frank & Polly Ellison Grindstaff. She was a homemaker. Barbara was a member of Milligan Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers.

Survivors include of husband of 51 years: Jim Allen. A son & daughter-in-law: Chris & Sherry Allen, Johnson City. Her sister: Mary Brumitt, Elizabethton. Her brother & sister-in-law: Bill & Nancy Grindstaff, Johnson City. Several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Don Page officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in the Lyons Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

4608 JOHNSON CITY - Barry T. Triplett, 68, Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Carter County he was the son of the late Turner Stout and Alta Louise Cable Triplett. Barry served in the United States Army during Desert Storm. He served in the Navy for 4 years and 2 months, and then served his country as a Staff Sargent in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 24 years. He retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center as a nursing assistant after 25 years. During his employment he was recognized as the 2nd runner-up in the Nation as the nursing assistant of the year. Barry was a hard worker and after retirement he found himself working at Quickway Transportation and Wal-Mart. He took pride in everything that he did and always gave his all. He was an avid UT Football fan and fitness buff, but his priority was his savior, Jesus Christ and his family. In earlier years, he and his family were members at Johnson City Baptist Temple where he was a deacon. He currently was an active member at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where you could see him cooking with his "best bud," David McCoy, or teaching Sunday school with his wife, Tyonnia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Andrew Triplett; and his father-in-law, Joe Carl Stoots.

He leaves behind his loving and faithful wife of 45 years, Tyonnia Stoots, Johnson City; children, William "Billy" Scott Triplett and his wife, Rachael, Kingsport, Lesli Triplett-Miller, and Elizabeth Hope Triplett and her fiancé, Stephen Presnell, all of Johnson City; grandchildren, Jordan, Bethany, Tyler, Mary Beth, Lincoln and Andrew; siblings, Linda Hagen and her husband, Glenn, MI, his twin brother, Harry Triplett, Johnson City, Michael Triplett, Stoney Creek, and Teresa Baines and her husband, Allen; his brother-in-law, Ricky Stoots and his wife, Tammy; sister-in-law, Terry Beckman and her husband, Dave; and his mother-in-law, Ruth Stoots, all of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank Mary Phillips, Carl Gasser and the entire staff of Amedysis Hospice for the love, care and support shown to Barry and to them during their time of need.

The family will greet friends and share memories on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 5:00 PM till a Celebration of Barry's life at 7:00 PM in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Pastor Brian Nulf and Pastor Cody Greene officiating. Eulogy will be provided by Mr. Scott Taylor. A Military Committal service will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers are David McCoy, Dave Beckman, Shannon Beckman, Stephen Presnell, Steven Stoots, Brad Street, Kenny Edwards and Chris Dulaney. Ricky Stoots will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

4609 JOHNSON CITY - Basil Lyle Blackburn, age 76, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord at his home on Thursday, June 8, 2023 surrounded by his beloved family. Basil was born in Elizabethton and raised in Johnson County and Hampton, to the late Fred Blackburn and Dora Rita (Grindstaff) Blackburn. In addition to his parents, Basil was also preceded in death by his great grandson, “Little Man”- Richard Killian Owens; several aunts and uncles; his mother-in-law, Myrtle Moody; and his brother-in-law, Wayne Hicks.

Basil was a mechanic by trade and could fix anything! He never gave up on trying or doing anything he put his mind too but most of all he loved and cherished his family. Basil had excelled at many things and had a wonderful, hard-working heart of gold. He had owned and operated a Roadrunner Express Delivery Service, Mr. B’s Service Center and Aunt B’s Restaurant. To say he was talented would be a tremendous understatement.

Basil attended Pinecrest Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon. He attended church religiously until his health prevented it. He had also worked with the youth of the church in past years, including youth trips and outings. Basil loved all animals, but especially his dog, Reese. A family man at heart, Basil treasured his trips with his family to the beach, riding motorcycles and children of all ages that were drawn to Basil because of his kind, loving heart.

Those left to remember and cherish Basil’s memories include his loving wife, Phyllis Blackburn; two sons, Brian Blackburn and Chad (Mandy) Blackburn; his granddaughters, Brianna Owens and Allison (Hunter) Hampton; his brother, Albert (Tammy) Blackburn and his sister, Darlene (Carl) Taylor and family; his sister-in-law, Pat Moody Hicks; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members also survive as well as his special cousins, Kenny Grindstaff and Charlie Grindstaff, special niece, Sherry Tilson, special family friend, Shirley Butler and many, many friends that will miss him so very much, too many to list, but they know they were loved.

A service to celebrate the life of Basil Lyle Blackburn will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Mr. Garry Edwards officiating. Emory Cordell will also speak at the service. Music will be under the direction of Larry Pate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Tuesday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Roselawn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Grindstaff, Dennis Bailey, Herman Wyatt, Hunter Hampton, Hobie Hyder, Kenneth Harrison, David Hicks, Clay McNabb, and Steve Tilson. 4610 JOHNSON CITY - Beatrice "Bea" Rambo Garland, 92, of Johnson City, Tennessee, entered the gates of Heaven on August 11, 2019 at the Waters of Johnson City.

Born in Mitchell County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Pheobe Hill Honeycutt.

Bea was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens Center in Johnson City.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Dana Robert Rambo, and Leonard "Len" Garland, 4 brothers, and 6 sisters.

Those left to cherish Bea's memory include her daughter, Brenda Payne and her husband Joe, son, Robert "Bob" Rambo, grandchildren: Joe Payne Jr., Lisa Morley, Lora Yonce, Amy Birchfield, and Vicki Rambo; Her Great grandchildren, Great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life service for Bea will be conducted on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at 7:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City with Rev. Brian Powell officiating. The family will greet friends to share memories from 5:00 pm until time of the service.

4611 JOHNSON CITY - Beatrice Hughes Carr, age 96, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2022.

She was born in Relief, North Carolina to the late Geter G. and Lula M. Hughes. The family relocated to Tennessee when Bea was six months old. She has lived most of her life in Johnson City.

Beatrice graduated from Happy Valley High School. She also went on and took business and sales courses. After that she was employed by Belk’s and JC Penny’s. Bea started her own business called Bea’s Bargain Barn. Her last employment was with Home Interiors and Gifts for 23 years from which she retired.

Bea had a very active life. She loved volunteering in the local elections. She worked with the Girl Scouts. Bea also stayed busy helping with the Keystone School’s PTA where she served as President for a period of time. When Bea wasn’t working or volunteering, she loved to cook for those she cared about. She was known for her good ol’ Southern cooking. She will be greatly missed.

Beatrice was a member of the Keystone Free Will Baptist Church and was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary and she loved helping others.

In addition to her parents, Bea was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine “Kitty” Whetzel and Nancy Froman; five brothers, Sonny, Glenn, Kenneth, Bill, and Roger Hughes; the pride of her life, her special grandson, James “Jimmy” Price; and son-in-law, Rev. J.D. Price.

Those left to cherish her memory include her only child, Carolyn Carr Price of Johnson City; one special brother, Troy Hughes and one sister, Betty Lamar of Johnson City; one special great-grandson, Aaron Price; and a very, very special great-great-grandson, Abel Price of Nebo, NC. She was also blessed to have several nieces and nephews, along with great-great nieces and nephews.

She had a wonderful cousin that meant the world to her, Brenda Lynn of Manassas, VA.

Bea had a special relationship with Sally Price, whom she said was her adopted granddaughter.

Funeral services for Beatrice will be Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm, followed by a funeral at 12:30 pm. Ministers will be Rev. Bill Greer, Rev. Tony Birchfield, and Rev. Rodney Deyton. Singing will be provided by the Keystone Ladies Trio. The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm. Those wishing to attend the graveside are asked to please meet at the cemetery.

Active pallbearers: Aaron, Benjamin, Michael, and Wayne Jr. Price, Rev. Wayne Windchester, and Michael “Mike” Hughes. Honorary pallbearers: Jim Cooper, Jimmy Workman, and Ben Stout.

We would like to express our great gratitude to all the staff at Hermitage Nursing Home in Elizabethton, TN. The wonderful staff took care of Ms. Bea just like she was their own mother. Thank you for the love and compassion you had for her while she stayed there.

Also, a special thank-you to Hospice that helped her and the family the last few days she lived. They were truly a blessing to the family.

4612 JOHNSON CITY - Benny Allen Lovelace, age 66, of Johnson City, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Lovelace was the son of the late Clinton Ray and Elsie Lee Campbell Lovelace. In addition to his parents, Benny was preceded in death by a sister, Sherry Lovelace, and a nephew, Adam Culbert. He was of the Baptist faith.

Benny was a fun loving person who enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a kind hearted and loving man who never held a grudge against anyone. His passions in life were many, but none were as important to him as his family. Benny was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Shirley Lovelace, and was a wonderful father and grandfather. Mr. Lovelace was the owner of Cherokee Metals, and prior to that was a former employee of Allied Metals. He loved working on cars and watching NASCAR, and had also found great enjoyment in deer hunting. He had a true love for bass fishing and was a member of several fishing clubs. Most knew him as a jokester who loved to tease his friends.

In addition to his wife, Benny is survived by a son, Jimmy Allen Lovelace and his wife, Ashley, and their daughter, Ryleigh, of Johnson City; four daughters: Laura Rutherford and her husband, Joseph, and their children, Joseph, Jr., Kristina-Marie, Michael, and Sean, of Norton, OH, Kim Oliver and her husband, David, and their children, Jordan, Kayli, and Koby, of Springfield, TN, Sherry Arnett and her husband, Josh, and their daughter, Addison, of Warner Robins, GA, and Tracy McGuire and her husband, Todd, and their children, Camden, Cayden, and Colten, of Jonesborough. Survivors also include 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Lovelace, Jonesborough; a sister, Paula Richards, Johnson City; his uncle, J.C. Campbell and his wife, Jeanette, Roan Mountain; his step-mother, Thelma Lovelace, Johnson City; a special sister-in-law, Sheila Culbert and Kevin Shaw, Jonesborough; a brother-in-law, John Elrod, Johnson City; nieces, Amy Elrod, Autumn Carter, Elizabeth Lovelace, and Karen Jo Matherly; nephews, Zach and Clint Lovelace; great-niece and great-nephew, Haley and Isaiah Elrod; and his loving companions, his dogs, Corben and Chloe.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the nurses and doctors of the ICU Dept. of the JCMC, and all his many special friends that were more like a brother to him including, but most certainly not limited to, Johnny Johnson, Donnie Davis, Billy Jack Cowan, and Gerald Jones.

A Celebration of Life service for Benny Lovelace will be conducted at 6:00 PM Thursday, August 25, 2016 in the chapel of Tribute Funeral and Cremation Services. The service will be officiated by his family and friends.

4613 JOHNSON CITY - Benny Robert Carver, Johnson City went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Johnson City and was a son of the late Reece Carver Sr. and Helen Wiley Carver. Benny was a very loving tender hearted, compassionate and caring husband, brother, father, grandfather, son, uncle and friend. He loved his wife, Barbara of 36 years with all of his heart. Benny also loved his dogs, Miley and Peaches. He loved to build hot rods and going to car shows. He would do anything for anybody. Betty was born September 26, 1935, to the late Arthur Blevins and Madonna “Donnie” Harrell Blevins in Unicoi.

A devout Christian, Betty was a longtime member of Lynnwood Church of Christ.

Betty was a homemaker and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loved by so many, and she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Humphrey; former husband, Doug Humphrey; and her six brothers and two sisters.

Those left to cherish Betty’s memory include her children, Rocky Humphrey, Drema Tester, and Kimberly Osborne, as well as many others.

Mrs. Caraway is survived by two sons, Billy Caraway and wife Teri and Glen Alexander and wife Linda; one granddaughter Brittney Kovacs and her husband Andrew Kovacs; one grandson Brian Alexander; one sister Pat Harrell and her husband C.L.; one sister-in-law Sharon and husband Al Wrinn; Charles Lewis, Jerry Moody and wife Carol; several nieces and nephews; and special friends from church. Betty was of the Free Will Baptist faith and is described by loved ones as energetic and feisty. She was a loving, strong woman who loved cooking, spending time with her family, and loving on her dog, Kilbee.

4617 JOHNSON CITY - Betty Jean Garland, age 89, Johnson City, formerly of Blountville, TN, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022, at NHC Johnson City, following a brief illness.

Betty was the daughter of the late Gladys Lilly Morrell and Byron Lee Morrell. She was born in Bluff City, TN on 12/01/1932, and resided in Blountville for 68 years with husband, Lawrence, before relocating to Johnson City after his death in Sept. 2019. Betty graduated from Bluff City High School and retired from the Sullivan County Board of Education after 52 years of employment. Betty was a member of Blountville United Methodist Church since her marriage to Lawrence at the church in 1951. During their marriage of 68 years, Betty and Lawrence enjoyed church activities, ballroom dancing, square dancing, and camping. Betty will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, incredibly positive attitude, love of children and her endless devotion to her family. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Susan Griffin, brothers, Howard (Sandy) Morrell, Robert (Bobby) Morrell, sister-in-law Mary Frances Morrell and Laura Morrell, wife of nephew Craig Morrell. Betty is survived by daughters, Becky (Steve) Cummings of Atlanta, GA, and Rachel (Dr. Alan) Forbush of Johnson City, TN. In addition, Betty is survived by 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and nephew, Craig Morrell.

4620 JOHNSON CITY - Betty Jeanne Seaver Baker, 97, of Johnson City, TN, was escorted into the arms of her Heavenly Father by His angels October 20, 2022 and is now experiencing perfect peace with her Lord Jesus Christ, having fought with a saintly faith life’s final war with pain. She now awaits the Day when the corruptible puts on the incorruptible eternal body preserved in eternity for His children.

Born June 8, 1925, Betty was a life-long resident of Johnson City and member of First Presbyterian Church.

She joins her husband, John G. Baker, who preceded her in 1997 and precious others including her parents, Orville and Nevada Seaver; brothers, Orville Jr. and Richard; sisters, Wilma and Lena; and great-granddaughter, Anna.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Seaver Tislow; sons, Richard G. Baker and Anthony J. Baker (wife Patti); daughter, Melissa J. Saffelder (husband Dan); granddaughters, Cecilia Baker, Elizabeth Yenca (husband Darren), and Meridith Saffelder; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Jordan, Josef, and Cordelia Yenca, and Medan Saffelder.

Betty was a woman of the greatest generation; a young girl and teenager who lived through the depression and a world war. She was a beautiful wife and loving mother in the 50’s and 60’s, she always exhibited a living testimony of a character transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit to be a godly testament to her family, her church, and her community. She was all this without renown, living a faithful life of humility and service. She leaves a legacy of faith exhibited in her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family of four generations were blessed to share memories and songs of faith with her as she moved from this present time into time eternal. She has not left us forever, for some day we will walk with her in the place prepared for all those who know Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the Life.

Beverly was a homemaker and was a member of Kingsprings Baptist Church. She was better known as Mimi to her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She was an avid University of Tennessee Football fan.

Bill retired from the Teamsters Local 549 Commercial Truck Driving after 55 years with Mason-Dixon and Henard Metal Fab, Inc. He enjoyed working on his farm, spending time with his grandchildren and friends riding ATV’s.

Bill was born in Carter County to the late Estal and Geneva A. Livingston Hyder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Lynn Hyder; and a brother-in-law, Herb Curde.

Bill retired as a paving contractor for Hyder Paving- CAPS Construction and was a United States Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church. Bill was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the VFW. He loved boating and the weekends he spent at Watauga Lake and also his winters spent in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Bill is survived by his best friend and the love of his life of 42 years, Lisa Hyder, of the home; four children: Charles Estal Hyder and wife Rebecca, of Elizabethton, Gary Roger Hyder, of Johnson City, Marlous Black and husband Charlie, of Columbia, SC and Lacie Hyder, of Johnson City; two stepsons, Joey Bowers and wife April, of Johnson City and Andy Bowers, also of Johnson City; fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Ardith Curde, of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

Jo was born on July 6, 1934, in Bakersville, NC, to the late Charles Burnie Masters and Gladys Brewer Masters.
She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class since 1964 at First United Methodist Church in Johnson City.
Jo married Ernest Chace Cross in 1958 and together they raised two daughters. First and foremost, Jo was a homemaker. She worked at Home Federal Savings and Loan until starting a family.
In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her siblings, Nancy Masters Taylor (Lynn), Mary Lou Masters Bartley (JD), Jack Masters (June), and Lloyd Masters (Erlene) and brother-in-law, Jay Lee Whitson.

4626 JOHNSON CITY - Billie John "Wild Bill" Presnell, Johnson City went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 1st after a brief illness. He was 89 years old.

Bill was a native of Washington County Tennessee and was raised on local sharecropping farms. He was a man of many trades and was a hard worker. Throughout his early life he worked on an oyster boat in Gloucester Virginia, on a horse farm in Danbury Connecticut and at Gordon's furniture in Johnson City Tennessee, among other jobs. He worked at Baxter-Pharmaceal for 30 years starting as a janitor and retiring as a master mechanic in maintenance.

Bill was an active member of the Tri Cities Church of God. He loved living and working for the Lord. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, wood working, mowing, watching golf, playing Phase 10, and telling jokes. His favorite place to eat was Dino's restaurant in Elizabethton.

He was proceeded in death by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Jonnie B, his mother Carrie Hicks, brother Steve Hicks and sister Joyce Amos.

He is survived by his two daughters, Victoria Lunceford (Joe Sr.) and Kerry Jackson (David)

Three grandsons, Joe C. Lunceford Jr. (Sheri), John Lunceford, and Matthew Lunceford (Cindy)

4627 JOHNSON CITY - Billy Jack Smith, 95, Johnson City, died Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Glendale, AZ.

Billy Jack was a native of Johnson City and lived in Dallas, TX from 1952 until returning to Johnson City in 1999. He moved to Glendale, AZ, to live with his son Jeffery Smith and his family in Feb 2021. Billy Jack was a son of the late Vernon and Gertrude Loveless Smith.

Billy Jack was a veteran of World War II and served in the Philippines. After getting married and moving to Dallas, he managed several departments for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for almost 25 years. He worked with David Reagan at the Lamb and Lion Ministries then rounded out his retail career with Dillard’s before working for David Crockett doing small engine repair. After learning that trade, he ran his own small engine repair shop.

Billy Jack was very active in the church. He was an elder at the Piedmont Church of Christ in Dallas, TX. Billy Jack was then ordained and ministered at multiple churches including Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Garland Texas, Mountain View Church of Christ and Locust Street Church of Christ both in Johnson City, he was President of the Village Church, also in Johnson City, and most recently taught at the Chapel at Cornerstone Village in Johnson City. Billy Jack taught well into his 90’s.

In addition to his parents, Billy Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Helen Ruth Simerly Smith, 4 brothers, Harry, Robert, Walter and Charles Smith, 4 sisters, Naomi Smith, Mary Ann Hopkins, Loretta Cloyd and Wanda Smith.

4629 JOHNSON CITY - Blanche Carrier Rose, 100, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

Blanche was the daughter of the late Everett and Lena Carrier. She was married to the late Clarence Rose and a longtime member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church.

She loved her church and Sunday School class and attended until her health declined.

Blanche was well known for her delicious home cooked meals.

In addition to her parents and husband, Clarence Rose Blanche was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry Rose; three brothers, Ralph, Gene and Joe Lee Carrier; one sister, Imogene Chappell.

Survivors include her son, Steve Rose and his wife Teresa; daughter-in-law, Nancy Rose; sister, Betty Wilkerson; three grandchildren, Bill Rose, Robert Rose and Sharon Browder; several nieces and nephews.

4630 JOHNSON CITY - Bob Williams, 94, Johnson City, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Bob was a native of Bee Log, Yancy County, North Carolina, and lived in Erwin before moving to Johnson City in 1963. He was the son of Monroe Samuel and Delilah Wilson Williams.
Bob was always a hardworking man. He and his wife worked at Southern Pottery in Erwin until it’s closing. Bob then went to work at J.E. Green helping build Science Hill High School. He survived a twenty-foot fall and could no longer work construction. Bob then took a job as Custodian at First United Methodist Church, where he worked thirty-seven years until his retirement in 2000.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Vada Ruth Couch Williams in 2004, two sisters, Winnie Wilson and Etta Williams, three brothers, John Williams, Darius “Doc” Williams and Cornelius “Neil” Williams, and mother-in-law, Lucy Couch.
Surviving is Bob’s son, Larry Williams and wife Betty; two granddaughters, Tonya Kinley and husband Shannon, Tina Stelley and husband Wes; four great-granddaughters, Nichole Basket and husband Cody, Sierra Kinley, Madi and Abbi Stelley; one brother, Ed Williams and wife Cathy; two sisters, Cendie Phillips and Genieve Williams; several nieces and nephews.

4631 JOHNSON CITY - Bobby Joe Carroll, 80, Johnson City passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a native of Piney Flats and was a son of the late Charles and Nell Tester Carroll. Bobby had worked as a mechanic for many years at Junction Shell. He loved old westerns, especially “Shane”. Bobby loved Cheetos, cokes, walking and going for rides. He sang bass in The Way of the Cross Quartet for many years. Bobby had a contagious smile and sparkling blue eyes. He loved joking and playing. He never met a stranger and could always brighten up anyone’s day. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Naomi Stines Carroll in 1996; brothers and sisters, Sylva Jean Carroll, Eusaw, James, Lynn and Carson Carroll, Beulah Haines and Betty Garland.

4632 JOHNSON CITY - Bobby Lee Campbell, age 74, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness. Bobby was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Taft and Grace Bradshaw Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Evelyn Taylor and Carolyn Richards; and one brother, Bruce Campbell.

Bobby was a devoted husband, who loved his family and passionately cared for them. He loved his God, family and his flag and loved helping others. Bobby had worked for Wells Fargo as an armed guard then became part owner of Capital Armored Services, when he retired. He proudly served his country in the Tennessee Army National Guard and was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ. Bobby, along with his wife, competed in many marathons all over the United States and internationally, having ran in more than 50 marathons. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 52 ½ years, Judy Harmon Campbell; four sisters, Georgia Berry, of Elizabethton, Betty Kyte, of Williamsburg, VA, Peggy Richardson, of Johnson City and Darrell Ann Fair (Packy), of Elizabethton; three brothers, James S. “Bo” Campbell (JoAnn), of Elizabethton, Paul Campbell (Wanda), of Apex, NC and Harold Bill Campbell (Lorraine), of Elizabethton. 4633 JOHNSON CITY - Bonnie Beatrice Shoun Patterson, age 84, of Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Burley Herbert and Mildred Katherine Morley Shoun. Bonnie was a native of Mountain City, TN and moved to Johnson City to attend ETSU where she met the love of her life, James "Jimmy" Patterson. They were married in March of 1953 and were steadfast partners for over 60 years.

Bonnie spent her earlier years raising her three sons and enjoying and supporting them in their many sport activities, rarely missing a game. As her children grew older she utilized her Bachelor's Degree to work as an Administrative Assistant at University High for many years. She was loved by all associated with University High and she stayed in touch with many UH alumni and faculty/staff.

Bonnie was very talented and creative using her skills to sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch, and quilt just to name a few. So many benefited from her skills including her family, church family, and community. Bonnie enjoyed spreading her love by crocheting bonnets and blankets for newborn infants. She was also a wonderful cook, and known for "Miss Bonnie's Tea Room". Bonnie had a love for all, especially children, and treated all as if she were their "adopted" grandmother.

She was an active member of Cherokee United Methodist Church and Cokesbury Church of Johnson City for many years, where her service and dedication were demonstrated in many ways. She served on numerous committees, was an active member of the choir, and coordinated fundraising activities. Her creative talents were evident in decorations she made for church functions, family weddings/births, and others lucky enough to receive them.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, James Lyman Patterson; granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Patterson; brother, Burley Joe Shoun; half-brothers, Jim Valentine and Harold Valentine; half sister, Betty Valentine; several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include three sons, James Herbert Patterson and wife Beth, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Patrick Lee Patterson and wife Debbie, Johnson City, William David Patterson and wife Sandra, Keystone Heights, Florida; Brother, Peter William Shoun and wife, Mary, Johnson City, Sister-in-law, Carol Shoun Holler, Lenoir, North Carolina; grandchildren, Abigail Elizabeth Patterson, Matthew David Patterson, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Cristin Marie Patterson St. John and husband Samuel, Nathaniel Lee Patterson, Johnson City, and Shane Douglas Lancaster, Keystone Heights, Florida; great grandchild, Kaydance Lancaster, Keystone Heights, Florida. The celebration of life service for Bonnie will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, January 20, 2018 in the sanctuary of Cokesbury Church, 110 Mary Street, Johnson City officiated by Rev. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents: John David & Georgia Church Ward. He was a 1962 graduate of Johnson County High School. He was a retired Textile Supervisor. Boyd was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

4635 JOHNSON CITY - Bradley Gouge left this world to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, September 27th 2018.

He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and lived in Johnson City, TN for more than 40 years. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Embreeville Church of Christ. He was the son of the late Ed and Sally Gouge.

He was a hard-working and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who spent countless hours in the fields tending cattle and crops even through retirement. Bradley leaves behind a legacy of deep love, strong faith, and cherished family.

Bradley was preceded in death by his dear wife of 69 years, Charlene Gouge, his loving son Eddie Gouge, brother Farrell Gouge, and sisters Helena Buchanan, Ethel Harrell, Myrtle Garland, Pansy Tipton, and Edna Masters.

Survivors include four sons; Jim Gouge and wife Kay, Mike Gouge, Ron Gouge and wife Gail, Rick Gouge and wife Chrissy, all of Johnson City, TN. Three daughters; Phyllis Garland and husband Sam of Bakersville, NC, Connie Garland and husband Lonnie, and Sally Parker and husband Jim, both of Jonesborough, TN. Daughter in Law, Frances Gouge of Jonesborough, TN; seventeen grandchildren and thirty two great-grandchildren; two sisters Mary Parker of Gray, TN and Lois Street of Bakersville, NC. Bradley was a treasure and will be dearly missed.

4636 JOHNSON CITY - Brenda Carolyn Goodman, 59, of Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a native of Johnson City, daughter of Carolyn White Goodman Horrell and the late Robert "Bob" Goodman. As a child, her family moved to Atlanta, where she was raised until moving back to Tennessee to attend college.

Brenda started her college career at the University of Tennessee, where she was a proud member of the marching band and an avid supporter of the Vols. She went on to complete her education as a music major at ETSU, becoming a band director after graduation in 1989.

She was a collector of trivia, friends, and Garfield memorabilia. Her happiest moments were the ones she spent in Scotland, a trip she was always happy to reminisce about. When she was home, she enjoyed spending time with her mom and watching sporting events on TV, especially the Vols and the Atlanta Braves.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by both her maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as twin brothers who passed in infancy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, two aunts, several cousins, and friends spread out from Florida to Hawaii.

4638 JOHNSON CITY - Brenda Gayle (Carden) Taylor, age 74, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, David William Carden, Jr. and Lillian Pauline Salts.

Brenda loved everyone and always thought of others before herself. She was a member of First Baptist Church for the past year and previously attended Crosspoint of Jonesborough. She was a wonderful homemaker and had been employed as a housekeeper. She loved her community at Pennington Crossing and loved to color and read her Bible but most of all she loved her family and especially her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Brenda’s memory include her son, Mike (Tiffany) Taylor and their children, Austin, Chase, Michaela and Hannah; her daughter, Christie (Mark) Bailey and their children, Dalton Parks and Cameron Trimm; her brother, Alan Carden; her sisters, Cathy Baker and Melonie “Lynn” (Donald) Banks; the father of her children, Charlie W. 4639 JOHNSON CITY - Bruce Banks, 95, Johnson City, died Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Bruce was a native and lifelong Carter County resident. He was a son of the late Chester and Sarah Alice Gouge Banks.
Bruce was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean War. Following his discharge from active duty, he served with the Tennessee Army National Guard for several years.
Bruce received a B.S. Degree in Education from East Tennessee State College in 1950.
Once returning from the service, he worked as an Industrial Draftsman, and later as Field Engineer with United Cities Gas Co. for twenty-six years, retiring in 1989. Bruce was awarded Gas Person of the Year in 1988 by the South Eastern Gas Association.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Agnes Lowe Banks, his second wife, Laura Bishoffburger Banks, three brothers, Oscar, Brian, and Glen Banks, one sister, Nellie Carrol, and a son-in-law, Charles Drew.
He is survived by five daughters, Lynn Starnes (Ed), Stephanie Drew, Lisa Orr, Agnes Samples (Henry), and Janey Howell (Larry); four sons, Bruce Banks (Janet), Andrew Banks, Greg Banks (Karen), and John Banks; one sister, Kathy Gouge (Charles Ed); one brother, Roger Banks; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his very special friend, Alma South.
The graveside funeral service for Bruce will be held Friday, February 11, 2022, at 2:30 P.M., at Happy Valley Memorial Park, with Dan Wood, officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

4640 JOHNSON CITY - Buddy Whitehead, age 82, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 20, 2020 from the Johnson City Medical Center.

Buddy was born in Butler, Tennessee to the late Carson and Eliza Robinson Whitehead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings.

Buddy was a lifelong athlete playing baseball in Chambley, France while serving in the United States Air Force and softball for the remainder of his life. He was inducted into various Hall of Fames in Texas and Georgia and the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame. He retired from the United States Postal Service and was a dedicated member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years. Buddy was a member of the Lyons Club. He was a Master Mason, a 50 year member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 in Elizabethton. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Jericho Shriner.

Those left to cherish his many many wonderful memories include his wife of over 50 years, Betty L. Whitehead, of the home; two children, Vanessa McKinney (Tim) and Vince Whitehead, all of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Arielle Faith, Brandon Whitehead, Shaleia Whitehead, Alex McKinney and Carson Whitehead; one brother, Paul Whitehead, of Winson-Salem, NC; and one sister, Sarah Sellers, of Johnson City.

4643 JOHNSON CITY - Carl B. Sutphin, 82, of Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Charles R. and Mamie Ellen Wilson Sutphin. Carl was a loving father and grandfather. Mr. Sutphin previously worked for GE, Magnavox and Mason Dixon Trucking Lines. He was hardworking, passionate, enjoyed farming, rebuilding tractors, talking to friends and family, and loved the outdoors. Mr. Sutphin attended Marbleton Baptist Church and was a member of the Teamsters. In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by brothers Bill, Jim and Raymond Sutphin and one sister, Helen Guinn.

4644 JOHNSON CITY - Carl Edward Hamilton, 84, Johnson City, graduated to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 while in the comfort of his home.
Carl was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Cecil Carl and Birdie Edwards Hamilton. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Smith Hamilton and one brother, J.B. Edwards.
Carl graduated from Science Hill High School in 1957. He was a cadet in the ETSU ROTC program from 1957-1959. Carl served four years in the U.S. Navy and then worked as the first federal civilian employee for ETSU’s ROTC for 32 years as a cadet records clerk and later the supply technician. He also volunteered services to the Junior ROTC at Science Hill High School and other units in East Tennessee. Carl earned his bachelor’s degree in business in 1973 and his master’s degree in instructional communications in 1979.
Carl loved playing golf, softball, singing in the church, and spending time with his ‘Little Buddy’ (Grandson).
Carl also served as the official timekeeper for the ETSU women's basketball team for over 30 years. He taught Sunday School at church for over 45 years and was a devoted member of The Answer Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Carla Winebarger and her husband Paul Winebarger, one very special grandson, Parker Hamilton Winebarger, two nieces, Dana Plummer and Jamie Stout, and several other special family members.
The family would especially like to thank the nurses and doctors at The Medical Center Hospital and Amedisys Hospice for their special care.

4645 JOHNSON CITY - Carl Tilson Head, 91, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021, at The Waters of Johnson City.

Mr. Head was a lifelong native of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Elbert and Louisa Head.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, having served in France.

Mr. Head was a retired employee of Klopman Mills, where he worked for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by: his dear wife, Florence, in 2003, after 54 years of marriage; three sisters, Florence Head, Hattie Castell and Mandy Highler; and four brothers, Cecil, Kenneth, Rollie and Larry Head.

He is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews; life-long friends, Jack and Betty Tester; and special friends, Jeff Lewis and Kathryn Ralston.

A committal service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Roselawn Memory Gardens.

4646 JOHNSON CITY - Carmon E. Dugger, Jr., 67, of Johnson City, TN passed away unexpectedly on November 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, Carmon E. Dugger, Sr. He was born in Elizabethton, TN to Carmon E. and Charlotte Hendrix Dugger on January 21, 1954.
He served in the United States Navy and was aboard the USS Ticonderoga when it recovered the Skylab 2 Astronauts near San Diego on June 22, 1973. He had owned and operated the Gas Shack in Johnson City, TN since 1987.
Carmon is survived by his daughter, Martha E. Dugger, his mother, Charlotte H. Dugger, two sisters, Catherine D. Harper and Christine G. Dugger, two brothers, Curtis P. Dugger and Charles F. Dugger, and two grandchildren, Karlei “Nox” Reyes and Helaiyna Reyes. Several aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Mike Koruschak Minister officiating.

4647 JOHNSON CITY - Caroline White Miller, 76, Johnson City, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Caroline was born in Erwin to the late James and Nancy Foster White.

She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church for 20 years, where she sang in the choir. Caroline worked as an RN for the VA and retired from JCMC after many years. Caroline was incredibly active her whole life. She stayed busy bowling in a league twice a week and could beat her husband, Kenneth, at every game. She and Kenneth enjoyed dancing together. If they weren’t at the Johnson City Community Center, Jonesborough Senior Center, or in Kingsport, they could be found at an occasional honky-tonk. Not only was Caroline an avid dancer but a lover of music. While she worked at the VA, Caroline was a pitcher for their softball team and voted MVP.

In addition to her parents, Caroline was preceded in death by two siblings, Ileen Hess and David White.

Survivors include: her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Miller; two children, Buddy Miller and his wife Kathy and Dina Overbay and her husband Jonathan; five grandchildren, Brett, Brent, Macy, Gracie and Brenna; one great grandchild, Cayden; and one nephew, Wayne Hess; and two step grandchildren, Amanda and Stephanie.

The family of Caroline Miller will receive friends from 5 PM until 6 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 6 PM. The graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

4648 JOHNSON CITY - Carolyn Ann Kerley, age 71, of Johnson City, TN passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Hubert Church and Ruby Curtis Church. She was a graduate of Jonesborough High School where she was voted by her class as most athletic. She retired as a Court Reporter with Sullivan County, Tennessee. She enjoyed running, bicycling, softball, volleyball, quilting, and cross-itching. Carolyn also loved being outside and vacationing at Tybee Island.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Church and sister-in-law, Kim Church. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Matthew Kerley, of Johnson City; daughter, Caitlin Kerley, of Johnson City; granddaughter, Mia Kerley; grandson, Ethan Kerley, both of Johnson City; sister, Cylene Sisk, of Orange Park, FL; brother, Lynn and wife, Connie Church, of Melbourne, FL and brother, Joseph Church, of Rogersville, TN; grand-dogs, Tala, Keena, and Winston, and several nieces and nephews.

4649 JOHNSON CITY - Carolyn Ann Snyder McCourry, 80, of Johnson City, TN, passed away peacefully at her home on October 21, 2017 after a prolonged illness and is now reunited with her Mama, whom she dearly missed.

Carolyn was born in Shouns, TN, to the late Lillian Allen Snyder and Frank H. Snyder. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Owen and Roger McCourry, brother, Bill Snyder, and special aunt Hallie and uncle Paul Glass. Carolyn was of the Christian faith and attended New Hope Church of Christ while she was still able. Widowed at the tender age of 28 and with three children to raise, Carolyn worked hard to support them, first in restaurant management and later in dry cleaning establishments. She tried very hard to teach her children the importance of cleanliness, hard work, and doing a job well. She was especially proud of obtaining her GED in 1996 the age of 59. Carolyn had a great sense of humor and loved laughter. She always had a smile. Carolyn, regarded by many as an excellent cook, made the best beans, cornbread, and pumpkin pie ever. She was always stylish and impeccably dressed, and never passed up a good sale on shoes! She dearly enjoyed a good conversation, and she especially liked talking about her children and grandchildren. Carolyn loved traveling, shopping, reading, watching Jeopardy, and going out to eat. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. Carolyn will be dearly missed by her children and their spouses, Donna Smith (Bob, whom she loved like a son), Ricci Owen, Kimberly (Alan), Summer Hill (James), and Jason McReynolds (Christi); her beloved brothers and sisters, Ralph "Buck" Snyder, J.E. Snyder, Joe Snyder, Jack Snyder, Larry Snyder, Sallie Sheehan (best friend forever), C.A. "Sonny" Snyder, Forrest Snyder, and Melinda Jones, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, special daughter-in-law Bonnie Childers, Joey Cunningham, whom she loved like a son, precious stepsons Chris, Randy, and Scott McCourry, ex-husband Bill McReynolds (Rose), numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, countless friends, and Chow-Chow, her beloved kitty.

Carolyn donated her body to the Quillen College of Medicine.

4650 JOHNSON CITY - Carolyn Elizabeth Pate, age 85, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Unicoi County Long Term Health Center.

Carolyn was born in Elizabethton to the late George Emert and Beatrice Eliza Ellis Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arvel Fred Pate in 2015; her brothers, Shelby Williams, Jerry Williams and Glenn Williams; her former sisters-in-law, Martha Query and Betty Williams.

Carolyn retired from Erwin National Bank and attended Pinecrest Baptist Church, where she had served as the church hostess. She enjoyed cooking, and most of all, being with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Cathy Bunton, of Elizabethton and Lois B. Shults-Davis and husband Michael, of Unicoi; her step daughter, Loretta Eubanks; her grandsons, Kenneth Shults and wife Shelly, of Flagpond, Joseph David Shults and Lawrence Scott Shults, both of Unicoi; two sisters-in-law, Jewell Linville and Linda Williams, both of Elizabethton; a brother-in-law, Virgil Pate and wife Katherine, of Ohio; a great grandson, Levi Shults, of Flagpond; a granddaughter, Gracie Jo Shults; and several nieces and nephews.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Carolyn Elizabeth Pate will be conducted at 4:30 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Ronnie Campbell, officiating. Music will be provided by Catherine Edwards Bunton, Kenneth Shults, and Craig T. Shelton. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday; or at the home of her daughter, Cathy Bunton, at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Michael Davis, Kenneth Shults, Joseph David Shults, Lawrence Scott Shults, Scotty Jack Bunton and Cody Hyder. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pinecrest Baptist Church, Raymond Poff and Virgil Pate.Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:15 PM on Tuesday.
