3754 He was born on April 28, 1930 as the 7th child of Thomas Matson Darden and Lula Bryant Darden and was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Dorothy Mae Darden, Helen Darden Ross, William Reed Darden, Sr., Vincent Lawrence Darden, Martha Darden Wilcox, and Mary Darden, who died in her infancy, and by a nephew, Daniel Ross, and a niece, Mary Elizabeth Wilcox Peters. Tommy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 66 years, Joan Harrell Darden and their son, Dr. Thomas Malcolm Darden, Jr. and his wife, Carla Jones Darden of Albany, GA. and their children Grace Darden, Patrick (Rebecca), Cole and Alec Miller. Mr. Darden is also survived by many devoted family members including cousins, nephews, great-nephews, nieces, and great nieces on the Darden and Harrell sides of his and Joan’s extended family.

Tommy graduated from Science Hill High School and East Tennessee State University and served in the Korean Conflict as a member of the U. S. Army. His career was in the clothing business, initially as a partner in the longtime downtown clothing store Hannah’s and then he and Joan opened and operated Darden’s Clothiers, selling finer menswear, women’s clothing and many a prom dress for over 30 years.

Mr. Darden was a lifelong member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church.

Twenty-two of the 23 graves were removed to six reinterment cemeteries.

KING SHAW
King Shaw, age 68, died at the Appalachian Hospital Friday afternoon. Mr. Shaw suffered a heart attack Friday morning. His condition became serious in the afternoon, was taken to the hospital, died shortly after arriving. Mr. Shaw was highly respected citizen of Carter County, prominent farmer of the Hampton section, member of the Union Baptist Church at Cardens Bluff.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Emma Shaw, four daughters, Mrs. Thomas Stewart of Elizabethton, Mrs. Lucille Ritchie, Mrs. James Hinkle, Mrs. Floyd Campbell of Hampton, Four sons, Louis Shaw, Lucas of Hampton, Mark, of Butler, Manuel, of Elizabethton. One brother, Bill Shaw, of Hampton, 27 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Union Baptist Church at Cardens, Bluff, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. Joe Potter and the Rev. W. W. Ward officiating. Burial will be made in the Union Cemetery. Active pallbearers, Harold Lewis, M. G. Nidiffer, Lawrence Whitehead, Allen Doss, Howard McGinnis, D. O. Johnson, Vaughn Campbell, Carson Campbell.
Flower bearers will be selected from friends.
The body was returned to the home at Cardens Bluff this morning at nine o'clock.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post #49.

Mr. White was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation with 43 years of service. He attended Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church.

Mr. Treadway was a retired employee of the United States Post Office in Jonesborough, with 33 years of service, and was also a retired farmer. He was a member and former deacon of the Cherokee Baptist Church.

Mr. Potter had lived in the Cleveland, Ohio area for 40 years before returning to East Tennessee in 1988. He was a retired iron worker and a member of the Iron Workers Local 17 of Cleveland, Ohio.

He had served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of Elk River Baptist Church, Butler.

3779 He was the son of the late Eli and Bertha Brumit Trivett. Mr. Trivett was also preceded in death by two wives, Orlia Trivett and Ilene Campbell Trivett; one brother, Elbert Trivett and four sisters, Nell Melenson, Ethel Trivett, Maude Trivett and Ella Mae Gee.

Mr. Trivett was retired from the military as a Chief Master Sargeant with the U.S. Air Force after 24 years of service. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

Mr. Trivett was a member, former deacon and choir member of the Grace Baptist Church, Elizabethton. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2003 in the Grace Baptist Church.

Graveside services and interment were held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2003 in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

3780 He was the son of the late Fred and Mary Smith Colbaugh. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Shirley Colbaugh, two daughters, Mary Sue Nidiffer and Barbara Colbaugh, and a son, Glen Colbaugh.

He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Colbaugh was a member of Borderview Christian Church and a former Sunday School Teacher, former Deacon and former Assistant Sunday School Director.

Mr. Colbaugh retired from Bemberg Corporation after 36 years of service, and was also retired from North American Rayon Corporation after five years of service. He was a Carter County Commissioner for eight years.

Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 25, in the Autumn Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home.

Mr. Potter was a member and Elder of Elk Park Christian Church. He was retired from the Carter County School System after 44 years of service as High School Principal at the following schools: Cloudland High School, Unaka High School and Hampton High School. He was a Watauga Academy graduate and received his Master's Degree from East Tennessee State University.
Mr. Potter was a former summer employee of the U.S. Forestry Department, Co-Chairman of the Miss Watauga Valley Pageant and a Charter member of the Roan Mountain Citizens Club. He was instrumental in starting the Roan Mountain Naturalist Rally.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy Seabees.

3783 He was the son of the late Henry "Abe" and Katie Morrell Bowers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ada Bowers; four sisters, Mary Whitaker, Gladys Rawn, Kathleen Monday and Virginia Bowers; and two brothers, Grover and Herman Clay.
Mr. Bowers had lived a number of years in Elizabethton and had lived in Johnson City for the past year. He operated the Elizabethton Business College for a number of years. He was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 and the American Legion Post #49. He was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton and the Men's Class.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2003 at Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Graveside services and interment were at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

3784 He was the son of the late Henry G. and Fannie E. Crowder. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Crowder; three brothers, Dock Crowder, Fred Crowder and Isaac Crowder; and two sisters, Marie Crowder and Mrs. Dena Moore.

Mr. Crowder was a faithful Christian and was a member of the Church of Christ where he had taught adult Bible classes for more than 50 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy, France and eight major campaigns on the European front.

He was at graduate of East Tennessee State University and the University of Michigan. He taught math at Cloudland High School. He served in the Flint Community Public Schools, Flint, Mich., for more than 30 years, where he was prinicpal of Flint Central High School and superintendent of the public schools. Mr. Crowder served on the Board of Directors of the Flint Area School Employees Credit Union for 24 years.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2001, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home.

Graveside services and interment were conducted at ll a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

3785 He was the son of the late Herman and Iva Hensley Reeser and was also preceded in death by a sister, Jody Reeser, and two brothers, Paul Reeser and Claude Reeser, who died September 25, 2002.

Mr. Reeser was retired from the Charles Swatzell Construction Company as a carpenter. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and past member of Doe River Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee, Deacon and Treasurer for several years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2002 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home.

3786 He was the son of the late Hill and Pearl Wagner Blackburn and was born in Johnson County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixth-three years, Dora Grindstaff Blackburn; a brother and two sisters.

Mr. Blackburn was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He loved to sing and direct music at the church.

He is survived by two sons, Basil Blackburn and his wife, Phyllis of Johnson City; Albert Blackburn and his wife, Tammy, Marion, VA; a daughter, Darlene Taylor and her husband, Carl, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Brian Blackburn, Chad Blackburn, Bonnie Buckles, Jenny Taylor; three step-grandchildren, Tiffany Little, Trevor Mensch and Taryn Mensch; two great-grandchildren, Brianna Blackburn and Allison Blackburn; two brothers, Stuart Blackburn, Elizabethton; Elmer Blackburn, Butler; two sisters, Mary Depew, Johnson City; Anna Ruth Moreland, Butler. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Blackburn will be conducted on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Mike Hyder officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday prior to the service, or at the homes of any of the family at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, January 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

He was formerly employed by Gordon's furniture in the finishing department and later retired from the finishing department of Magnavox in 1971.

The graveside funeral service was conducted Thursday, December 11, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. in Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Mr. Blevins was a member of the Roan Mountain Holiness Church. He was a pipefitter in the construction industry and a member of the Local 538 Pipefitters.

Funeral services for John S. Blevins Sr. were conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2000 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel.

Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2000 at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

3794 He was the son of the late R.M. and Mary Alice Grindstaff Snyder. He was also preceded in death by a son, Scotty, and a brother, Dudley Snyder.

Mr. Snyder was a retired farmer and operated a car dealership from 1948 to 1967. He was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F.&A.M.

Funeral services for W.D. "Doc" Snyder, 88, were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, from the chapel of Henson Funeral Home.

Masonic services will be at the close of the funeral service at the funeral home.

3795 He was the son of the late Richard and Mary Ragan Norris and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Norris; a son, Douglas Norris; three sisters, Mary and Hannah Norris and Lois Keefer; and four brothers, Wilburn, Clark, Avery and Richard Charles Norris.
Mr. Norris attended Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Bemberg Corporation and had retired from North American Rayon Corporation and the U.S. Forestry Service.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2001 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel.
Graveside services and interment were at 11 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2001 at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

J. A. HEATON
J. A. Heaton, age 70, died at his home on Beach street, Saturday morning after a lingering illness. Mr. Heaton, born in Doeville, was the son of William J. and Rebecca Heaton.
Funeral services will be conducted from the First Baptist church this afternoon at 2:30 with Dr. C. L. Bowden in charge.
The deceased was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He is survived by the following children, Mrs. Cora Lyons, Martha, Dencie, Celestia Heaton of this city, Earl Heaton of Myssa, Oregon, Haddon, Winford, Paul, J. Lewis and Samuel Heaton of this city; four brothers, E. S. Heaton of Somerset, Ky., William G. Heaton of Oregon, Samuel Heaton of Long Island, N. Y., Curtis Heaton of Roseburg, Oregon; one sister, Nancy Jordan Blevins of Roseburg, Oregon; also twelve grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Roy Wilcox, Robert Brumit, Edward Jordan, R. W. Nave, A. T. Bradley, John Keyes.
Those in charge of the flowers will include Anna Mae Jack, Mrs. Roscoe Collins, Jr., Frances Bradley, Ella Mae Parks, Mrs. H. R. Collins, Mrs. H. H. Patton, Stella Jones, Elizabeth Jordan, Wanda Smith, Bernice Smith.

LUTHER PAUL HEATON
Funeral services for Luther Paul Heaton, 40, of Route 2, Johnson City who died in a local hospital Sunday afternoon, will be conducted at the Pinecrest Baptist Church, of which he was a member, Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brown Bowers officiating assisted by Rev. G. D. Barrett and the Rev. George Westmoreland. Burial will be in the Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Fred Carver, Clarence Chambers, Fred L. Williams, Astor "Mike" Deloach, Frank Smith, Harlow Crosswhite, Bert Lowe, and Robert Banks.
The members of the Dashiel Lodge Number 238, F and A. M. will be in charge of the services at the grave.
Mr. Heaton was a member of the Virginia May Lodge Number 38, A. F. and A. M., Radford, Virginia, and a Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Floy Heaton; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Heaton and one son, L. Q. Heaton, both of the home; four brothers, Sam, Lewis and Winifred Heaton all of Elizabethton, and Haddon Heaton of Boise, Idaho; and three sisters, Celeste Heaton, Martha Heaton and Mrs. Dencie Estep all of 401 North East Street, Elizabethton.
The body was moved to the home of the sisters Monday afternoon where it will remain until 12:00 noon Thursday when it will be taken to the church to lie-in-state until the funeral hour.
The Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge.
