2801 ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Oma Lee Holder Richardson, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.

She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Dora Estep Holder and was born in Carter County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Robert Richardson, three brothers, Deward Holder, Conley Holder, Dan Holder, and an infant sister, Blanche Holder.

Mrs. Richardson volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at Sycamore Shoals Hospital and also for Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was retired from North American Rayon Corporation where she worked for over fifty years.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Kay Larkin and her husband, Jim, Knoxville; two grandchildren, John Larkin and his wife, Jill; Susan Brown and her husband, Mike, all of Knoxville; five great-grandchildren, Lindsey Brown, Laura Brown, Savannah Larkin and Corey Larkin, all of Knoxville; Caleb Pleasant, Rhode Island; two brothers, Hoover Holder and his wife, Maureen, Elizabethton; Lloyd Holder, Rolling Hills Estates, CA; four sisters, Sylvia Bradley, Jonesborough; Eva Estep, Elizabethton; Lois Edmison and her husband, Manuel, Kernersville, NC and Shirley Richardson and her husband, Ronda, Winston-Salem, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to express a special and heartfelt thank you to Linda Tester, Tracey Steffey, Rose Branch and Karen Ludlow for their friendship and care over the past three years. Also a thank you to Harold and Martha Smith, Brad and Amber Smith and Mrs. Richardson's wonderful neighbors, and Lynn and Jack Hamilton for all their visits.

The funeral service for Mrs. Richardson will be conducted on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:30 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Ron Owens officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:30-2:30 PM on Tuesday prior to the service.

Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be contacted. Honorary pallbearers will be the Members of the Joy Sunday School Class of Grace Baptist Church, Harold Smith, Brad Smith and Jack Hamilton.

2802 ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Pauline Keller, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late George and Roxie Bunton Guinn and was born in Carter County.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Keller; and a brother, Bob Guinn.

Mrs. Keller was a member of Siam Baptist Church and she also loved to quilt. She worked at the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center for over thirty years.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Ronnie Keller and his wife, Connie; two daughters, Brenda White and her husband, Max; Patricia Proffitte, all of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Cassandra Salo, Rebecca Lavergne and her husband, Travis, Brenna Richardson and her husband, Donnie, Ronnie Keller, Jr., Johnny Proffitte, Kim Hyder and her husband, Curtis, April Ashley and her husband, Tim, Chris Proffitte; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler Salo, Bryce Richardson, Raven Proffitte, Macy Ashley, J.R. Lavergne, Austin Hyder and McKenna Richardson; four brothers, Carl Guinn, Dennis Guinn, Claude Guinn, all of Elizabethton; Dean Guinn, Hampton; and three sisters, Mary Gouge, Peggy Whitehead and Sue Stafford, all of Elizabethton; special friends, Brenda Stout, Teddy and Vernie Turbyfill and her special cousins, Thelma Cassidy, Bill Bunton, Deedee Bunton, Jean Cox and Belva Lance.. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Pauline Keller will be conducted on Monday, September 14, 2015, at 7:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel, of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Jack Roddy officiating.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 1:00 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the funeral home at 12:15 PM on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

2803 ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Viola Ethel Sluder Pierce, 89, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord in the company of family and loved ones Tuesday, December 21, 2010, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton.

A native of Shady Valley, she was a daughter of the late Everett Edgar and Grace Robinette Sluder. She had lived most of her life in Carter County.

She was a former employee of the Magnavox Company. Mrs Pierce loved to embroider, quilt, work jigsaw puzzles and take care of her grandchildren. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John B. Pierce Sr.; a daughter: Nellie Pierce Grant; and a sister, Mable McQueen.

Survivors include Three Daughters & Sons-In-Law: Wanda & Gus Johnson, Bristol, Naomi & Bill Jones, Elizabethton, and Margie & Neil Burgner, Limestone; Two Sons & Daughters-in-Law; J.B. & Tracy Pierce, Jefferson City, Missouri, and Edgar and Joyce Pierce, Jackson, Tennessee; Step-Daughter: Johnie Estep, Johnson City; Five Grandchildren: Daniel Pierce and wife, Jill, Vienna, Virginia, Cody Pierce, Monticello, Arkansas, Sarah Jones, Danielle Jones and Benjamin Jones, all of Elizabethton; Two Sisters: Ardna Campbell, Mountain City, and Bertha Hutchinson, Maryville, Tenn.; Several Step-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Wright officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Music will be provided by Edwin Taylor and Dale Williams. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, will be: Kirby Taylor, Tom Reece, Rondal Lowe, Wayne Clemons, Johnny Price, Scotty Campbell, John Garland and Trent Snyder. 2804 ELIZABETHTON — Ms. Mamie Garland Celia, age 93, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late M.D. and Vada Grindstaff Garland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.

Ms. Celia was a homemaker and a member of Unaka Baptist Church

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Lacey, Barbara Honeycutt and her husband, Dave, and Beverly White and her husband, Lanny, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Whitney Boylan and her husband, John, Raleigh, NC, Roman White and Rhonda Lacey, both of Johnson City, Scott Lacey, Jonesborough, and Amanda Holly and her husband, Tom, Elizabethton; four great-grandchildren, Mackin Boylan, Olivia Holly, Seth Holly and Phoebe Holly; two sisters, Ida Taylor, Elizabethton, and Laura Watson, Atlanta, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Ms. Mamie Garland Celia will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, April 16th, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Richard Estep officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Jerry Barnett, soloist.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 PM prior to the funeral service in the chapel.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 17th, in the Garland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dave Honeycutt, Lanny White, Roman White, Scott Lacey, John Boylan and Tom Holly. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services at 10:15 AM on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the Staff and Residents of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for the love, care and friendship that was given to Ms. Celia.

2805 ELIZABETHTON — Nancy Mae Collins, 51, 109 Butterfly Lane, Elizabethton passed away Wednesday September 1, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a Carter County native.

Nancy was a 1978 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was employed as a beautician for several years. She loved spending time with her family. She was a Free Will Baptist.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father Clifton Collins in 1973 by three brothers: Rusty Collins, Freddie Collins and Randy Chesser, her step-father: Harold Johnson and an infant brother and sister, Joe & Linda Sue.

Survivors include her mother: Hazel Collins Johnson. Three Sisters & Brothers-In-Law: Judy and Dean Bowling, Hampton, Joan and David Garland and Joyce and Sonny Miller all of Elizabethton. A Step-Brother: Keith Johnson, Roan Mountain. Her Nieces & Nephews: Jason, Cynthia, Daniel, Joey, Brandon and Locus, Her special great nieces & nephews: Curtis, Haley, Caleb and Page.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Blevins officiating. Friends may also call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. It was her wish to be cremated and private graveside service at a later date

2806 ELIZABETHTON — Opal Campbell Jessee, 96, Elizabethton passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 in the Hermitage Health Care following an extended illness.

A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Nick D. and Callie Rambo Campbell. She had lived most of her life in Carter County. Mrs. Jessee was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation where she was employed for several years. She was a member of the Siam Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Lawrence Campbell who died in 1967, her former husband Thomas Clyde Jessee, a son: Dean Campbell, A Grandson: David Montgomery, a son-in-law: Jack Montgomery, Two Sisters: Ora Hardin and Leona Hipps Nave and Two Brothers: Winford and Gatha Campbell.

Survivors include a daughter; Charlotte Campbell Montgomery, Elizabethton. Two Grandchildren: Dani Sue Thompson and her husband Cory, Murfreesboro and Deanna Davis and husband Wesley, Cameron, NC. Three Great Grandchildren; Nicole Davis, Jessica Rattelade and husband Dave, Raleigh, North Carolina and Kaylen Hall and husband Drew, Murfreesboro. A Great Great Granddaughter: Natalee.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

2807 ELIZABETHTON — Pat J. "Red" Bowers, 82, former Mayor and City Councilman of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday April 7, 2012, at his residence after a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Cecil & Cora Ramey Bowers. Pat "Red" operated Bowers Motor Sales in Elizabethton for 52 years. His father started the business in 1926. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed attending other community churches.

He served on the City Council for 17 years and served as Mayor four of those years.

He was a member of the following organizations: Member and Past Master of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238, R.D. Keller Chapter #214 R.A.M., Carter Commandry #37 K.T., The Scottish Rite Bodies, Knoxville, Charter member and First Recorder, Jericho Shrine Temple, Kingsport, he was a Kentucky Colonel, Commonwealth of Kentucky, Honorary Member of Alaska Temple, Anchorage, Alaska, Past President of the Elizabethton Shrine Club and Sycamore Chapter #163, Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Bowers.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Ella Mae Myers Bowers; Two Sons: Sonny Bowers and his wife, Elaine, Pinehurst, North Carolina, and Tom "Yogi" Bowers, Elizabethton; Three Grandchildren: Patricia, Sonny and Matt; One Great Grandson: Curtis; Several nieces, nephews & Cousins.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Donald B. Marshall officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. 2808 ELIZABETHTON — Pearl Hilman, age 84, of Elizabethton went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from her residence.

Pearl was a native of Carter County, born on March 18, 1932, to the late Lionel and Mae Pierce Vandeventer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Hilman on February 20, 2005; her brother, Arlan Vandeventer; and her precious grandson, Matthew Russell on December 13, 2013.

Pearl retired from Levi Strauss and Company as a seamstress and was a homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was loved and cherished by all that knew her. She was a loyal and faithful servant of the Lord and was a charter member of Wayside Baptist Church of Johnson City. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, ceramics and cake decorating.

Those left to cherish her memory, include her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Rick Ashworth, of Johnson City and Brenda and Donnie Persinger, of Elizabethton; her son, Rev. Steve Hilman, of the home; a brother, Floyd Vandeventer and wife Barbara, of Elizabethton; and her sister, Edith Williams, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews, along with her special friend, Myrtle Pierce, of Elizabethton, also survive.

2809 ELIZABETHTON — Rada Belle McKeehan Perry, 76, Elizabethton, a loving, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John McKeehan, Sr. and Hassie Arnett McKeehan. Mrs. Perry was a 1957 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was employed as a clerk at the South Elizabethton Utility District.

She was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Perry; infant daughter, Julie Perry; and two brothers, Terry McKeehan and Louis McKeehan.

Survivors include two daughters. Debbie Perry Lenden and husband Kevin and Stephanie Perry Nanney and husband David, all of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Aaron Lenden, Jessica Lenden Holt and husband Forrest, Victoria Nanney, and Vanessa Nanney all of Elizabethton; two great grandchildren, Alayna Holt and Brayden Holt; several nieces & nephews; her sisters, Nancy Verran and husband Don, Johnson City, and Betty Archer and husband Ron, Jonesborough; five brothers, Bud McKeehan and wife Loretta, Elizabethton and Ted McKeehan and wife Mary, Johnson City, Jackie McKeehan and wife Kim, Gray, Tony McKeehan and wife Jane, Johnson City and Bobby McKeehan and wife Devonia, Elizabethton; two half brothers, John McKeehan and Charlie McKeehan both of Elizabethton; her half sister, Lennie Ellis and husband Frank, Elizabethton; several nieces & nephews.

2810 ELIZABETHTON — Raymond Tolley, 88, Elizabethton passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, in the Pine Ridge Care & Rehab Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Dave & Julie Hilman Tolley. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed at North American Rayon Corporation for 32 years and retired from Kennametal. Raymond was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Pauline Haldren Tolley; two sisters, Ruth Tolley and Ethel Hayes; and two brothers, Phillip Tolley and Zeke Tolley.

Survivors include a son, Adrian Raymond Tolley; his nephews, Billy Tolley, Johnson City, Dean Tolley, and Douglas Tolley both of Elizabethton, Zeke Tolley, Jr., Hampton and Jimmy Calfee, Hilton Head, South Carolina; his nieces, Patsy Johnson Elizabethton and Aleta Williams, Danville, Virginia; his sister-in-law, Mary Tolley, Elizabethton.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. 2811 ELIZABETHTON — Robert Elmer "Bug" Ensor, 78, Elizabethton passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert Cecil & Cora Ellen Gentry Ensor. He was a 1957 graduate of Unaka High School. He was also a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theology Seminary with a degree in Music & Religion Education.

He was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. HE served in the Vietnam Era. Robert was a member of the Lynn Valley Baptist Church. He loved writing poetry and sharing his gift with others. He also loved music and working with children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Raymond Ensor; mother and father-in-law, Van & Jewell Edwards; and a sister-in-law, Elaine.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Frank Ensor; three brothers, Howard Ensor and wife Jewel, C. L "Chug" Ensor and wife Laurie and Ernest "Pete" Ensor and wife Kathy; three sisters, Marie Oxendine and husband Tom, Ruby Corder, and Lynda Kaye Vaughn and husband Tom; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ensor, Nyoka Ensor and Evelyn Beschke; a brother-in-law, Roberts Edwards. One Uncle Frank Gentry and wife Evelyn; several nieces & nephews; great nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, in the Ensor. Music will be provided by Larry Adams, the Lynn Valley Baptist Church and Cathy Wilson. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. on Saturday, will be: Kevin Vaughn, Tommy Vaughn, Jason Ensor, Ronnie Ensor, Michael Ensor, John Corder and Chris Corder. 2812 ELIZABETHTON — Robert Ernest Cardwell, Jr., 83, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2008, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Avery County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Robert Ernest Cardwell, Sr. and Elsie Jacque Parlier Cardwell. He was a graduate of Cranberry High School, East Tennessee State University with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's from International Correspondence School.

His prior employments were with Graybeal Lumber Company, Roan Mountain; Paty Lumber Company, Elizabethton; and owned the Greenwood Building Materials in Greenwood, South Carolina for a number of years. He retired from Great Lakes Research Corporation as a Mechanical Engineer.

Mr. Cardwell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton where he was teacher of the Potter's Clay Sunday School Class and was Deacon Emeritus. He was active in the Watauga Baptist Association, and was instrumental in the starting of the Lynnwood Community Church. He was a Life member of the National Rifle Association, active in the Carter County Community Residence, Inc., The Habitat for Humanities, The Tennessee Association for Retarded Persons, The Carter County-Elizabethton Library Association and the Civitan Club in South Carolina. Mr. Cardwell was in the United States Navy Air Corps during World War II.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Rhea Cardwell.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Marjorie Nelle Hyder Cardwell. His Daughter: Jennifer Lynn Cardwell Perkins and husband Steve, Hermitage, Tennessee. Two Sons: Robert Ernest "Robbie" Cardwell III, and Jon Hampton Cardwell and his wife, Julie, all of Elizabethton. Two Sisters: Leunah Cardwell Tipton, Elizabethton, and Mary Ruth Cardwell Ownby, Richmond, Virginia. Six Grandchildren: Bobby Dail Cardwell, Rachelann Cardwell, Austin Bradford Perkins and wife Jennifer, Jon Thomas "Tommy" Cardwell, Dustin Andrew Perkins and Sarai Linnea Perkins. A Great Grandson: Tristan Perkins. Several nieces & nephews and his favorite furry friend, Pepper.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Robert Ernest Cardwell, Jr. will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church with Dr. James Royston and Dr. David Irby officiating.

Graveside Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Bob Polk and Rev. Ron Owens officiating. The Eulogy will be given by Mr. Jon Cardwell. Music will be provided by Julie Cardwell and Erica Yoon, violinist.

Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday and at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday will be Deacons and the Potter's Clay Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.

2813 ELIZABETHTON — Roma Jean Creasey Deloach, 71, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday March 15, 2012, in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Malcolm Walter and Modest Greene Creasey. She was a graduate of Hampton High School. Roma Jean was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel E. Deloach, May 14, 1995; and by a brother: J.D. Creasey.

Survivors include a Sister & Brother-In-Law: Shirley & Larry Carver, Fairview, North Carolina; A Brother & Sister-in-Law: Glen & Billie Creasey, Elizabethton; Five Nieces & Nephews: Nathan Carver and Wife, Wendey, Douglas Creasey & Wife, Glenni, Nikki Vines and Husband, Bill, Eric Creasey and Teresa Lynn Merkel.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Mark Potter officiating.

2814 ELIZABETHTON — Ruby Webb, 88, 2815 Siam Road, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, February 16, 2007, at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Webb was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Allen and Rebecca Heaton Lovelace.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burton Webb; sisters, Essie Webb and Grace Lovelace; and a nephew, Willie Webb.

Mrs. Webb was a graduate of Hampton High School and Milligan College. She was a charter member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church, where she served as secretary for many years. During the summers she was a local missionary for the Watauga Baptist Association, setting up Bible Schools in Carter and Johnson Counties.

She taught at Hampton Elementary School for 2 years, and retired from Valley Forge Elementary School, where she had taught for 41 years. She loved gardening and canning, and she loved to share the results with others. She loved her church and children.

Mrs. Webb is survived by her son, Phillip Webb and his wife, Bonnie, a grandson, David Hilbert and his wife, Brandi, a granddaughter, Kimberly Hilbert, great grandchildren, Kimberly Alexis and Hallie, all of Elizabethton TN; nieces, Margie Walker, Jacksonville, FL, Janetta Webb, Elizabethton, Dorothy Ann Campbell, Buladean, NC; nephews, Dr. Steve Webb and his wife, Donna, Johnson City, James Webb, Bakersville, NC; special friends, Martin Nave, Erma Morris, Lucy and Jim Hoff, Wilma Colbaugh and Desiree Gentry, all of Elizabethton.

A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Webb will be conducted Monday, February 19, 2007, at 2:00 PM at the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Doug Ranshaw and Rev. John Perkins officiating. Music will be under the direction of her granddaughter, Kimberly Hilbert, soloist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:00-2:00 PM Monday, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Ora & Sallie Buckles Nave. Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and a former Cook at Unaka High School. She loved cooking for her family and working in her flowers. She was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ora Dale Wilson; three brothers, Snyder, Ray & Arthur Nave; and three sisters, Ailene Nave, Juanita Fair; an infant sister; and Rosa.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Conway "JC" Wilson; her children, Kennetha Marshall, Johnson City and Gary (Sharon) Wilson, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Kimberly Buck, Ericka Marshall and Kasey Duncan; three great grandchildren, Chase Buck, Kaelyn Duncan and Keaton Duncan; one sister, Phyllis Gouge, Johnson City; several nieces & nephews; special "sister" Geraldine Grindstaff; and special "cousin" Charlotte Farrington.

2816 ELIZABETHTON — Samuel Mitchell "S.M." Estep Jr., 80, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, at his residence.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Samuel Mitchell Estep Sr. and Nannie Carden Estep. He was employed as a Draftsman at Magnavox for several years and retired as a Draftsman from Snap-On-Tool, Elizabethton. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. S.M. was an active member of the First Christian Church of Elizabethton.

His hobbies were gardening, woodworking and trains.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Humphrey Estep, April 2, 2003; by a sister: Novella Treadway; and three brothers: Infant Howard Dean Estep, Roy Estep and Floyd Estep.

Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law: Gene & Carolyn Estep, Elizabethton; A grandson: Craig Matthew Estep and his wife, Sylvia, Elizabethton; A Granddaughter: Cara Leanne Estep; Two Great Grandchildren: Sophia Brynn Estep and Camden Mitchell Estep; One Brother & Sister-In-Law: Carl & Eunice Estep, Elizabethton. 2817 ELIZABETHTON — Shelby Eugene Williams, 73, 253 Ollie Collins Road, Elizabethton, TN, went home to be with his Lord, on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was the son of the late George Emmert and Beatrice Ellis Williams and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Mack Williams and Glen Williams; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Marie Bradshaw.

Mr. Williams was a 1956 graduate of Hampton High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church and was retired from Nuclear Fuels in Erwin. He loved to fish and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Linda Fay Bradshaw Williams, of the home; two daughters, Nina Lynn Hyder and her husband, Tom, Sharon Rose Thomas and her husband, Kenneth, all of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Cody Hyder, Beth Thomas, Shelley Hyder and Suzanne Thomas, all of Elizabethton; a sister, Carolyn Pate and her husband, Arvil, Johnson City; two brothers-in-law, Howard Bradshaw, Erwin, Rev. Cecil "Nick" Bradshaw, Elizabethton; two sisters-in-law, Doris Lovelace and Barbara Bradshaw, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

2818 ELIZABETHTON — Sonny Lee Bowling, age 63, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, from the Johnson City Medical Center from injuries sustained in an accident.

Sonny was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Herman Carl Bowling and Mary White Bowling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a canine pal, Santa Fe Bowling.

Sonny retired from the Elizabethton Electric System and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Tennessee Moose Association, where he attained the Fellowship Degree, which is the highest degree of the Moose. He loved to play golf and loved animals. Sonny enjoyed spending time with his family and special friends and music – He was Dena and Garrett's biggest fan.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dena Layne Bowling, of the home; three sons, James Garrett Bowling, of the home, Aaron Travis Bowling and Timothy Wayne Mink, both of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Gage and Gunner Mink, of Elizabethton; three brothers, Larry Bowling and Bob Bowling, both of Elizabethton and Joe Bowling, of Philadelphia; two sisters, Kathy Smith and Brenda Hawks, both of Elizabethton; and his canine pals, Cocoa Bowling and Sweet Pea Bowling, both of the home. A service to honor the life of Sonny Lee Bowling will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 27, 2016, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Laura E. Cole. She resided several years in Jonesborough before returning to Elizabethton. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. Treadway and an Aunt, Ida Cole.

Survivors include several special cousins and her extended family, members of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was a Carter County native. Pam was a 1971 graduate of Unaka High School. She was a member of the Order of Confederate Rose "Wild Mountain Roses" Chapter 11 of Elizabethton.

Pam attended Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church. She was loved by many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, C.W. Rambo.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Bill Hicks; her mother, Lillie Belle Colbaugh Rambo, Elizabethton; a sister, Paula Rambo, Unicoi; a brother, Perry Rambo and wife Debra, Elizabethton, several cousins and her dog Missy.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh and Mr. Randy Carrier officiating.

2821 ELIZABETHTON — The Lord welcomed a true Saint of God, Georgia Kate "Mama Georgie" Pope, 98, 723 Fairway Drive, Elizabethton, into his presence May 31, 2008, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a brief illness.

Georgia was a native of Johnson County and the daughter of the late George and Lou Buchanan Crosswhite. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church yet attended Memorial Presbyterian as her health allowed.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles H. Zolly Pope, son Jerry Pope, daughter-in-law: Joyce Pope and son-in-law: Sonny Hale, her Sisters: Etta Robinson, Sena McKinney, Emma Williams, Pheba Derthick, and Leone Lucke, her brothers Joe Crosswhite and Harlow Crosswhite.

Survivors include her devoted daughter: Joyce Pope Birchfield and her son-in-law that was more like a son to her, Jess Birchfield, of Elizabethton. A daughter: Leta Pope Hale, Elizabethton. Granddaughter: Dr. Katie Birchfield Gladstone and her husband Bob Gladstone of Hollywood, Florida, her nieces: Jean Campbell, Edith Fedyk and Carole Ann Vander Vlut. Nephews: Howard Bowers, Dean Crosswhite, Steve Lucke and Charles Lucke. 2822 ELIZABETHTON — Wayne Hobert Peters, 92, 1219 Broad Street, Elizabethton was promoted to Glory Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Bruce and Iva Lee Reed Peters. He had lived most of his life in Carter County. He had served in the United States Navy During World War II stationed in the Pacific. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation having worked there for over 30 years. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: RuthaMae Slemp Peters, March 6, 1986, by an infant daughter Waynetta Ivajo Peters, four sisters: Bonnie Reynolds, Ada Chambers, Rosa Peters and Dessie McCarty and two brothers: Carl and Bob Peters.

Mr. Peters loved to farm and do carpentry work.

2823 ELIZABETHTON — Willard G. "Billy" Collins, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.

He was the son of the late Maynard and Carmie Collins and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Collins.

Mr. Collins was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army. He was a former employee of Bemberg, North American Rayon Corporation and was retired from American Water Heater. He was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. Mr. Collins enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved baseball.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie Collins and his wife, Tami, Bobby L. Collins and his wife, Connie; two granddaughters, Jacquelyn Collins, Macy Collins; two great-granddaughters, Logan Collins, Katlyn Becht; a great-grandson, Tyler Dugger; five grandsons, Davey Collins, Dustin Collins and his wife, Lindsey, Brandon Collins, Bryant Collins and Bud Hicks; five sisters, Betty Edwards and her husband, Andy, Novella Heaton, Lola Bowers, Burnie Pierce, all of Elizabethton, Myrtle (Tootsie) Gilliam and her husband, Ken, Harriman, TN; three brothers, Arthur Collins, Luther Collins, Bobby D. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William Ben and Nancy Jane Treadway Allen.

He was a retired Dairy Farmer having operated the Allen Dairy farm for 47 years. He was a member of the Carter County Soil conservation District, The Dairymen's Incorporated and the East Tennessee Horseman Association.

Mr. Allen was a member of the Siam Baptist Church and the Upper Room Sunday School Class.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, June Reo Grindstaff Allen, November 4, 2008; by a Great Grandson: Austin Allen; Four Sisters: Mary Nave, Maude Coley, Olive Allen and Bernice Morrell; and Two Brothers: Frank and John T. Allen.

2825 ELIZABETHTON — William Roy Arney, 84, Elizabethton, passed away Monday November 1, 2010, in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late James David and Alice Dugger Arney. He had lived most of his life in Carter County. Roy was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. He had worked for several years at North American Rayon Corporation and retired from The Raytheon Corporation, Bristol.

He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Blevins Arney; four brothers: Haskell, Duke, John David and Earl Arney; and two sisters: Marie Potter and Norma Hart.

Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law: David & Jennifer Arney, Elizabethton; and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Loren Harris. A Patriotic Tribute will be played by Mr. Arney's son, David Arney, following the funeral service.

2826 ELIZABETHTON — Edgar Church, 83, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010, in the Hermitage Health Care Center of Elizabethton.

He was a native of Avery County, NC, but had lived in Johnson City most of his life. Mr. Church was a son of the late Marion and Hildred Lewis Church and was a member of the Johnson City Church of God.

He was a retired Greens keeper, having worked for the Johnson City Country Club, Pine Oaks and the Buffalo Valley Golf Courses. Mr. Church was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served his country during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Wanda Bowman Church, in May 2003; a daughter, Pamela Louise Church; a son-in-law, Jackie Keene; also several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include ten children, Mickey Church and his wife, Claudia, Columbia, SC, Kenny Church and his wife, Cindy, Spartanburg, SC, Sharon Sue Creech and her husband, Gene, Morrison, TN, Dan Church and his wife, Karen, Tampa, FL, Linda Copas and her husband, Buster, Johnson City, Jimmy (Buck) Church and his wife, Juanita, Jonesborough, Darrell Pete Church and his wife, Micki, Pittsburgh, PA, Richard (Coot) Church and his wife, Leslie, Port Orange, FL, Marti Collins and her husband, Ben, Johnson City, and Wendy Alexander and her husband, Jeff, Limestone; a brother, Herman Church, Johnson City; two sisters, Myrtle Cross, Piney Flats, and Doris Scott, Watauga; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Church will be conducted Friday, October 1, 2010, at 7:00 PM in the Johnson City Church of God, 1908 Indian Ridge Road, Johnson City, with the Rev. David Dugger, Rev. C. Bryant Collins and the Rev. Wes Church officiating. Special music will be provided by the Singing Duggers.

A native of Butler, she was a daughter of the late Nat and Pearl Whaley Deloach. She had lived a number of years in Elizabethton. Miss Deloach had formerly been employed at Eagles, Kress’s and Big K. she was a member of the Happy Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Manuel, Spencer and Robert Deloach. Survivors include two sisters: Pauline Poole, Elizabethton, and Effie Garland, Butler; several nieces and nephews. 2828 ELIZABETHTON — Jack C. Campbell, 81, 130 Earl Avenue, Elizabethton, died Sunday, June 25, 2006 in the Hermitage Health Care Center.

A native of Johnson County, he was the son of the late John Frank and Rosa Ward Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a member of Stout Hill Church of Christ and a retired logger. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Irick Campbell; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol Ann and John Guin, and Edith Guy of Elizabethton and Lisa and Gary Potter of Hudson, N.C.; three grandsons, Jason and Joshua Potter and Jonathan Guin. Two brothers, Joe Campbell of Hampton and Jim Campbell of Butler.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Irick officiating. Graveside and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2006 in Whitehead Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Laurel Creek Trio.

2829 ELIZABETHTON — James H. "Jim" Cox, 205 West "H" Street, Elizabethton, went to be with The Lord at 7:45 P.M. on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Cox was a native of Washington County, Tennessee, and the son of the late Earl T. and Georgia P. Jones Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Shirley Mae Adams Cox; an infant daughter, Donna Lee Cox; three sisters, Ina Cox Cameron, Edna Cox Stinett, Vera Cox Rogers; and one brother, Robert C. "Bob" Cox.

Mr. Cox was a long time member of West Side Christian Church and was retired as a self-employed electrician. Many will remember Mr. Cox from his earlier years as a supervisor at the former Smithdeal's Super Market in Elizabethton. He was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family and his church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Geddie Monroe; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Mary Cox, Sid and Cindy Cox and Tim and Cheri Cox, all of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Adam Monroe, of Jonesborough, Ryan Cox, of St. Augustine, Florida, Brooks Monroe, of Johnson City, Chelsie Cox, Courtney Cox, Chesnie Cox and Kaytlyn Cox, all of Elizabethton; Trenton Barnes and Danielle Barnes, of Jonesborough. A native of Watauga County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Nathan D. Ward Sr. and Sarah Tester Ward. She had lived in Elizabethton for a number of years. Mrs. Swift was a member of the Valley Forge United Methodist Church.

2831 ELIZABETHTON — Rev. Horace C. Bowers, 75, of 287 Old Lacy Hollow Road, Elizabethton, went home to heaven be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 18, 2010, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, TN, following an extended illness.

He was the son of the late Emmitt and Rowena Brown Bowers and was a native of Carter County in the Hampton community. Mr. Bowers was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a carpenter, minister, former employee of Great Lakes Research, served as an associate pastor for eleven years at Hunter First Baptist Church and was a member of the Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by six brothers and nine sisters.

Rev. Bowers is survived by his wife of 51 years, Violet Carrier Bowers, of the home; one son, Jonathan Horace Bowers, of Knoxville, TN; one daughter and son-in-law, Rowean and Kenneth Dunn, of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Daniel Dunn and wife, Teresa, of Johnson City, David Dunn and wife, Jessica, and Dianna Dunn, all of Elizabethton; five great grandchildren, Chaz Deakins, Alyssa Dunn, Zachariah Dunn, John Ethan Deakin, all of Elizabethton, and Caleb Rosenbalm, of Johnson City; a soon to be born great granddaughter, Karleigh Grace Dunn; a sister, Lena Peters, of Elizabethton; and a beloved dog, little bit. 2832 ELIZABETHTON — Roy D. Ellis, age 84, 106 Mayfield Dr., Elizabethton, passed away at his home Saturday, October 25, 2008, after a brief illness.

He was a native of Wise County, VA, but spent most of his years in Carter County. Mr. Ellis was the son of the late John and Mary Dingus Ellis. He was preceded in death by a son: Harold Wayne Ellis, three sisters: Elizabeth Dugger, Florene Guinn, Carie Jane Donnelly, and a brother: Raymond Ellis.

Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife: Gwina Jackson Ellis of the home; a daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Gary Autry, Cocoa Beach, FL; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Roy Lynn Ellis, Merritt Island, FL, Dennis and Sheila Ellis, Elizabethton; a grandson: Jarrod Ellis, Elizabethton; a granddaughter: Sophia Ellis, Merritt Island, FL; a sister and brother-in-law: Bobbie and Wilson Ornduff, Elizabethton; two nieces and two nephews.

Mr. Ellis attended Fairview Baptist Church, Watauga. He had a membership of fifty-eight years in the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #538 of Johnson City, having served as business manager before retirement. Mr. Ellis served as chairman of the Carter County Democratic Party. He coached many years in Babe Ruth Leagues. He and Carmen Dugger coached a semi-pro baseball team called the Road Runners in the early seventies. The team was made up of classmates and college friends of Harold and Dennis Ellis.

Mr. and Mrs. Ellis liked to travel in their motor home since their retirement. They spent the winter months in Florida for twenty years spending a lot of time with their two children who reside there.

The funeral service for Mr. Ellis will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 30 in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Kenneth Jordan officiating. 2834 Elizabethton, Tenn., June 23--The funeral services of Mrs.. Joe Brumit were conducted from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alf Shell, yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services were in charge of the Rev. S. G. McPherson of the M. E. Church, South, assisted by Revs. Powell and Morton. As a special request Mrs. Brumit's favorite song, "Somebody Cares", was rendered by Mrs. Dungan Rhudy, Mrs. Nat Perry, Mrs. Nat Williams, C. H. White and N. H. Vanhoy. The pallbearers were: Willie Hampton, John Ryan, Fred Hathaway, Walter Dungan, Cameron Boring and R. L. Long.
The many and beautiful flowers were in charge of the Ladies' Aid Society of the Southern Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Mrs. Brumit had been very low for some time and realized that the end was near. She was 32 years of age and is survived by her husband, little daughter, Louise, two brothers, Aleck and Willard Shell, and her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Shell. Mrs. Brumit had a lovable disposition and a host of friends, as was evident from the large crown in attendance.

2835 ELIZABETHTON- Grace Reed, 80, went to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Franklin Woods Hospital.

She was a loving Pastor's wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her children with all her heart. Mrs. Reed was of the Pentecostal faith and was well known for her southern gospel singing. She traveled everywhere with her husband singing and spreading the gospel.

She was preceded in death by her son; Paul Wesley Reed; parents, Harmon and Bonnie Grace Presnell; 2 sisters, Helen Sue Jenkins and Hazel Lambert; 2 brothers, Paul Presnell and Sherrill Presnell.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Evangelist Phil Reed; 7 children, Roy Reed and wife Cindy, Donna Reed, Mark Reed, Grace Ann White and husband Scott, Geneva Carriger and husband Gerald, Daniel Reed, James Reed and wife Shelby; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Billy Presnell; several nieces and nephews.

The going home celebration will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 11, 2018 in the East chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor G.B. Garland and Evangelist Johnny Persinger officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until the service hour.

2836 Elizabethton- Leonard “Keith” Benfield, 71, went to be with the Lord, October 16, 2022, after a long courageous fight with cancer and heart disease.
He was a retired 50-year member of Boilermaker’s Local #83 of Kansas City, Kansas.
Keith loved talking and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his fur babies, Elijah and Ollie, riding his motorcycle, camping, talking to friends, and sitting on the porch watching the wildlife and the rolling river.
Keith was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, and also attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church when his health permitted.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara; his children, Holly Channon (Michael) of Moline, Illinois, Jennifer Carr (Steven) of Elizabethton, TN, Jacob Benfield of Port Neches, Texas, and Bob Norris (Shae) of Elizabethton, TN; his mother, Betty; his brothers, Gregory (Robin) and Robert (Mary); his grandchildren, Zachary, Avarie, Emily, Justin, Jesse, Madison, Bailey; and his great-grandchildren, Jazzy, Skylar, A.J. and Peyton; his Aunt Pidge; and several cousins, nephews, nieces and special friends, George Baldwin and Kenneth Loveless also survive.

Jones was a native of Avery County, N.C., and a daughter of the late Henry and Jane Hobson Dugger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Winters; her second husband, Carl Jones; a daughter, Judy Winters Nidiffer; a son, Fred E. Winters; a grandson, Gerry Winters; a sister and three brothers.
Mrs. Jones was of the Baptist faith. She had worked as a hospital aide in Cleveland, Ohio.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Goldie and Millard Jones, Roan Mountain, Elizabeth and W. Lock Davis, Nebo, N.C., Dimple and Larry Varney, Frankfort, Ky., and Edith and Glenwood Arrington, Martinsville, Va.; two sons and a daughter-in- law, Ralph and Betty Winters, Roan Mountain, and Arthur "Jr." Winters, Roan Highlands Nursing Center; 20 grandchildren; 39 great- grandchildren; 17 great- great-grandchildren, and a special niece, Judith Lyons, Gaithersburg, Md. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Jones will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, the Rev. Dan Cole, grandson, and the Rev. Chris Hay- wood, grandson, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Jones' granddaughters and Gloria Holly. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Friends may call at other times at the residence of a daughter and son-in- law, Goldie and Millard Jones, 107 Orr Street, Roan Mountain. Mrs. Ellis was the last charter member of the Elk Park Christian Church.

2840 ELK PARK, N.C. -- Macy Elizabeth Bare, 112, of Elk Park, died Friday, September 6, 2002, in a Linville hospital.
Mrs. Bare was a native and lifelong resident of Avery County and a daughter of the late Joe and Rosie Oaks Turbyfill. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ed Bare, and two daughters, Jean Adams and Alma May Bare.
Mrs. Bare was a homemaker. She attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.Survivors include two daughters, Edna Oaks, Roan Mountain, Tenn., and Edith Ward, Valdese, and three sons, Harry Bare and Harold "Bud" Bare, both of Elk Park, and Helton Bare, Black Mountain. Thirty-four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and several great-great-great-grandchildren also survive.

2841 ELKHART - Emma Jean Grindstaff Cox, 85 years old, of Elkhart, formerly of Edwardsburg, passed July 17, 2015. She was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Elizabethton, TN, and moved here in 1952. She is survived by her children, O'Netta (James) Alber, Jerry Grindstaff and Jeff (Corrina) Grindstaff. There are 4 grandchildren and many great-grand-children. Also surviving are sisters, Carolyn Dozier, Sue Pirtle, Maxine Rust and Theresa (Dan) Riedl, and a brother, Jerry (Pam) Perry. The Service of Remembrance will be Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at 12 noon at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg, where family and friends may gather for one hour before the service. 2842 Elkhart, Ind. - Joyce L. Pierce, 81, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Riverside Village. She was born September 30, 1933, in Shell Creek, Tenn., to Oscar and Fannie (Presnell) Calhoun. She married Billy Ray Pierce, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1979. She was also preceded in death by a son, Nickie L. Walker, in 1978, and two brothers, H.L. Calhoun in 2010, and Dorse Calhoun, in 1931. Joyce was a homemaker who loved to crochet. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, singing at her church (the Freewill Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Tenn.) and listening to country and western music. She was known for her chocolate gravy. Surviving are two grandsons, Shannon and Aaron Walker, both of St. Cloud, Fla; two sisters, Lillian Potter of Elkhart and Lucille Powell of Elizabethton, Tenn.; an brother, Roger (Sandy) Calhoun of Elkhart; a sister-in-law, Nancy Calhoun of Mishawaka; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the 3 p.m. Thursday, January 22, celebration of life service at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. 2843 Ella Dessire Greene Whitehead, age 91, formerly of 229 Garrison Hollow Road, Elizabethton, joyously entered Heaven to be with her husband of 68 years on Friday, May 8, 2009 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Avery County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Coy C. and Nora Guy Greene. She was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Whitehead was an avid reader of the scripture and took joy in her garden. She was a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was a loyal pastor's wife. In addition to her husband, Rev. Raymond J. Whitehead and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ella Louise and Dennis Stevens, Elizabethton and Judy Ann and Jay Blythe, Paris Crossing, IN, one grandson, Larry Lynn Moreland and wife, Rebecca Moreland, Elizabethton, one great granddaughter, Olivia Grace Moreland, Elizabethton, two sisters, Blanche Hill and Velma Clemons, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews and five sisters-in-law also survive. 2844 Ella Hart Clyburn, 103, of Johnson City, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the Christian Care Center.
She was a native of Elizabethton, but had lived in Johnson City most of her life; daughter of the late Caswell "Cad" and Lula Mae "Lu" Glover Hart.
Ella had retired as manager of the cafeteria at North Side Elementary Schools for many years. She loved and served the Lord all her life and felt that was the secret of her longevity. Ella was a volunteer for the Red Cross.
In addition to her parents, her loving husband of 65 years, Thomas Clyburn (1982) had preceded her in death. She was the last of her original eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include: her two daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley and Rex Brown, of Jonesborough, Jewell and Kenneth Tittle, of Houston, TX; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dewey and Patricia Clyburn, of Johnson City and Lee Clyburn, of Gray; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Louise McKinney.
A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 26, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Dr. J. Andrew White.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m.
A committal service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012, in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery.

2845 Ella Jay Morton Tolley, 96, Hampton passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 in the Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William & Essie Murray Morton. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and work in her yard. She attended Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Julius Tolley who died July 3, 1994 and by four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her children: Sharon Moore & husband Arthur, Elizabethton and Julius Tolley, Jr & wife Sandy, Hampton. Two Grandchildren: Betty Jane Fernandes & husband Chauncey and Gary Hensley & wife Teresa. Several Great Grandchildren. One Sister: Erma Lee Wright, Elizabethton.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Rev. Dexter Brummitt officiating. Burial will follow the service. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Hermitage Health Center and the staff of Caris Hospice for all the care she received during her stay there.

2846 Ella Louise Fields Trice passed away Tuesday evening, September 7, 2021, following a brief illness.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathie Massee; widow of David Massee, and her son, Bill, Charles W. Trice, Jr., (Kathy). She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Charles W. Trice and their son, Rodney Evan Trice (Regina). She is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Like most mountain women, Louise was a wonderful cook and helped raise a big vegetable garden yearly from which she canned and froze the best things her family ate during the winter. Louise also loved flowers and planted dahlias and lilies every spring and always expected hanging baskets for Mothers Day. Her flowers graced every family grave on decoration each summer in White Pine Cemetery and Fork Mountain Cemetery.

Louise also sewed a great many of Kathies clothes as she grew up. Amazingly, while carrying out all that needed doing taking care of her home and three children, Louise worked thirty years at Glen Raven Mills. For years, she got up early enough to cook a full breakfast, including gravy and biscuits, for her husband and children before leaving to arrive at work at 7:00 in the morning.

She and husband Charles spent many happy winters in retirement in their home in St. Augustine with close friends all around them in the little Caroline Road community there. She enjoyed walking the trails there with Charles and their dog, playing on the beach with their children and grandchildren, and reading endlessly. She was a friend of the Morrison Library here and donated new books as soon as she finished them.

Graveside services for Louise Trice will be on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fork Mountain Cemetery.

2847 Ella Mae "Babe" Combs age 83 of 903 N. Shady, Hwy. 421, Mountain City, TN went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the home of her son in law and daughter, Michael and Mary Combs Tedesco of Cochranville, PA. She was a native of Johnson County and lived in Chester County, West Grove, PA many years before retiring to Tennessee. She belonged to the Avondale Church of Christ. She was an excellent seamstress, Quilter, and painter, a belover mother, wife grandmother and great grandmother. She was an active member of the March of Dimes, proactive in Project Headstart in 1967 as well as the Crippled Children's School of West Chester, PA. She was the daughter of the late Arthur R Reece and Amanda Jane Mains Reece. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul W. Combs, Sr., who passed away in 1998. In addition to her husband he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Combs Jr., who passed away in 2004.
Survivors include, two sons, Bobby R. Combs and wife Gail, Oxford, PA and J. Gary Combs and wife Marsha of Kennett Square, PA, one brother , Dolphus Reece, special niece, Shirley Lipford Hedges of Mountain City, TN., 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Ms. Ella Mae "Babe" Combs will be conducted Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Dean Gouge and Mr. Mike Taylor officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Phillippi Cemetery.

2848 Ella Mae Anderson Trivett, age 81, of Vilas, died August 5, 2014, at Watauga Medical Center. She was born June 23, 1933 in Watauga County. She was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 38 1/2 years. She was an avid quilter, crocheter, and homemaker. She recently read her Bible through for the 5th time, which she never felt this to be a chore, but counted it as an honor.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Blaine "Bob" Trivett and wife Janet of Zionville, and James Trivett and wife Libby of Vilas; five grandchildren, Robert "Dale" Trivett and wife Amy, Bobbie Sue Trivett, Emily Ragan and husband Bobby, Nancy Trivett, Kevin Trivett and wife Bonnie; fourteen great-grandchildren, Ella Fay Trivett, Jayden Trivett, Jazmine Trivett, an unborn baby boy, J.T. Isaacs-Trivett , Conner Isaacs-Trivett, Parker Isaac-Trivett, Adam Trivett Timothy Trivett, Nathan Trivett, Nickolas Trivett, and step great-grandchildren, Jackson, Carson, and Ainsley Guynn; one sister, Judy Greene and husband J.B. of Colletsville, NC; one brother, Minister J.C. Anderson and wife Betty Sue of Abingdon, VA, and a special sister-in-law, Ava Trivett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Trivett; two sisters, Verlee Cole and Geneva Bentley, and one brother, Billy Anderson.

Funeral services were held at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, officiated by Preacher Wynn Greer, Reverend Burl Greer, and Minister J.C. Anderson. Burial in the Anderson Family Cemetery (Mount Lebanon Cemetery).

2849 Ella Mae Ensor Bishop, 83, Elizabethton entered into rest, Monday, August 13, 2012 at the residence of her daughter.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Kress Ensor. She was a retired school teacher. Mrs Bishop was a 1948 graduate of Unaka High School and received a BS Degree in Elementary Education from Milligan College. She had taught at Unaka Elementary, Buladean Elementary and Midway Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Carter County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Chalmer Bishop, two sisters: Velma Davis and Moilee Lewis and three brothers: Elbert Kress, Robert and Ivan Ensor.

Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Dinah & Richard Babb, Elizabethton. Two Grandchildren: Amanda Estep and husband Rickey, James Babb and wife Ashley. One Great Grandson: Clayton Estep. Two Sisters: Jesselene Ensor, Elizabethton and Ida Connelly, Chicago, Illinois. Three Brothers: Dennie, Glenn and Aubrey Ensor all of Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the Kress Cemetery with the Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

2850 Ella Mae McCulloch, age 78, passed away on December 7, 2022 at Mountain City Care Center. Ella Mae was born May 6, 1944 to the late Sam and Maxie Hammons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, James “Jim” McCulloch and brothers, Larry Hammons, Fred Hammons, Frank Hammons, and Glenn Hammons.

Ella Mae was a long time member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved the times that her and Jim had together, especially sitting on their back porch. She also loved watching Tennessee football and basketball.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Robbie McCulloch and wife Kathy, Jimmy McCulloch and wife Glenda; daughter, Christy McCulloch Mann; special niece, Susie Yoggerst; special great nephews, Anthony and Zach Yoggerst; sister, Nancy Wilson and husband Keith; brother, Richard Hammons and wife Helen; grandchildren, Chelsea Shaw and husband Devin, Katie McCulloch, Wesley McCulloch, Lizzie McCulloch, Xander Mann; great granddaughter, Kennedy Grace Shaw; several nieces and nephews.

The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral at the church cemetery.
