2551 ELIZABETHTON - Margie M. Ashley, age 91, of Elizabethton, has gone home to be with her Lord. She left her earthly home on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Margie was born on August 22, 1925 to the late James Taylor Montgomery and Martha Viola Harmon Montgomery. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, John A. Ashley in 2007; six brothers, John Rex Montgomery, George "Champ" Montgomery, Willard Montgomery, Albert Montgomery, David Montgomery and Glenn Montgomery; and four sisters, Stela Frances Fox, Lillian Nunley, Laura Alona Williams and Marie Montgomery.

Margie retired from North American Rayon Corporation, after 33 years of service and was a member of Highpoint Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Johnny Ashley and wife Judy, of Elizabethton; a daughter, Helen A. Nave and husband Joe, of Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Tammy Ashley, of Elizabethton and Patty Jo Singleton and husband Tracy, of Roan Mountain; three great grandchildren, Patricia Singleton, Jacob Singleton and Nico Ashley; one brother, Raymond Montgomery, of Roan Mountain; and one sister, Vera Lou Lowe and husband Jim, of Jonesborough.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Margie M. Ashley will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 28, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Joel Cook, officiating. Music will be provided by Loren Harris. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday; or at the residence at any time.

2552 ELIZABETHTON - Marie G. Matherly, age 87, of Elizabethton, changed her address on Monday, March 27, 2017, she was born to Alida Mae Rash and Carl Fletcher Garrison on October 27, 1929. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Howard D. Matherly; a sister, Betty Joyce Broome; and a great nephew, Austin James Frazier.

Marie attended ETSU for 2 years and was a graduate of Steed College. She worked at North American Rayon Corporation and after 31 years of service, she retired in 1994 as the Purchasing Coordinator. She was a member of the West Side Christian Church, having been active in the Lydia Circle, Homebuilders Sunday School Class and other activities of the church.

Left to cherish her memory include three brothers and their wives: Clyde and Joyce Dean Garrison, C.F. and Olene Garrison, and Ray and Sue Garrison; a brother-in-law, Carroll Broome; four nieces: Jama Marie Frazier, Karen Heaton, Deborah Lowery and Teresa Sands; and three nephews: Eric Garrison, Carl F. Garrison and Stephen Garrison.

A service to honor the life of Marie G. Matherly will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 30, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Dr. Greg Key, officiating. Music will be provided by the West Side Christian Church Choir. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of the West Side Christian Church. 2553 ELIZABETHTON - Marie Hamby Bunton, 86, Elizabethton, passed away peacefully Monday, April 10, 2017 at her residence. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William & Minnie Franklin Hamby. Marie was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a homemaker. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Marie was a member of Grace Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years: James Lionel Bunton and four siblings.

Survivors include Three Children & their spouses: Linda Lou and Rob Thompson, Honea Path, South Carolina, Jimmy & Debbie Bunton and Lori & Vince Hawkins all of Elizabethton. Her Grandchildren: James M. Clouse, April Fox, Cody Bunton, Brandi Davis, Tanner Marshall, Colby & Kasey Hawkins. Her step-grandson: Forrest Thompson. Her brother: Bob Hamby & wife Charlotte, Elizabethton. Her sister: Maxine Howell, Bristol, Tenn. Several nieces & nephews. Her special care giver: Eva Rector.

2554 ELIZABETHTON - Martha Etta Hubbard VanHuss, 86, Elizabethton passed away Friday March 16, 2018 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Earnest B. & Mary Etta Stamey Hubbard. Martha was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended Steed College. She worked at Allen Taylor, Pharmacy prior to going to the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center where she had worked for 32 years as a Respiratory Therapist. Martha was Miss Rhododendron in 1952. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Lorene Bare and Mildred Greene and a brother: Paul Hubbard.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years: K.S. "Dick" VanHuss. Two Children: Jeff VanHuss and wife Cherie, Powder Springs, Georgia and M. Lissa VanHuss, Knoxville. One Grandson: Turner Milan and his father, Jimmy W. Milan, Knoxville. One Brother: Harold Hubbard & wife Virginia, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Martha VanHuss will be conducted at 6 p .m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Polk officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Laney Falin, and Holly Falin. 2555 ELIZABETHTON - Martha Lou Fair Cox, 84, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late J.S. & Hildred Nidiffer Fair. She was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a homemaker. She loved working in her flowers, gardening and taking care of kids. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church. She served as a Denmother for the Cub Scouts for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Eugene “Bo” Fair, and Perry Fair and two sisters: Edna Johnson and Emma Lou Houck.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years: Paul Cox. Two Sons: Paul Cox, Jr & wife Lucy and Robert L. Cox and companion Wanda Stines all of Elizabethton. Three Grandchildren, Five Great Grandchildren and One Great Great Granddaughter. A Sister: Janice Stout and a sister-in-law: Ruby Woods. Several nieces & nephews.
Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. 2556 ELIZABETHTON - Martha Omega Joines Collins, age 92, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at her home.

Martha was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late B.A. Sr. and Effie Crawford Joines. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Collins; two grandchildren, Charles and Serena Carol; one sister, Alpha Tester; four brothers, Norman Joines, Elmo Joines, B.A. Joines Jr. and Haden Joines.

Martha was a loving mother and devoted wife, she retired from North American Rayon Corp. after 48 years of service. She was a member of Watauga Valley Freewill Baptist church, she loved to cook and enjoyed canning. She loved spending time with her family and her church family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Judy Richardson, and her husband Dr. James Richardson, of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Donnie Richardson, and his wife Brenna, Charice Arnold, and her husband Kenneth, Chris Richardson, and his fiancée Magen Pebbles; four great grandchildren, McKenna Richardson, Stephen Richardson, Lucas Richardson, K.J. Arnold; one great granddaughter, Jordon Hillman; one sister, Beatrice Tester, and her husband Clyde; one brother-in-law, Mack Collins, and his wife June; three sister-in-law's, Darlene Collins, Lyndal Lowe, Phyllis Davis; and Tyler Salo whom she treated like a grandson; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Martha will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. James Richardson and Reverend Bill Greer, officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday prior to the service from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM in the chapel.

2557 ELIZABETHTON - Mary "Ruby" Caraway, 86, Elizabethton, passed away Monday Feb 6, 2017 at Sycamore Shoals. She was born in Carter County to the late Henry and Destie Blackwell. She was preceded in death by her husband Elzy, daughters Patricia Carr and Beverly Redepenning, brothers Coeburn, Claude, Elmer, JL and CJ Blackwell, sisters Goldie Pierce, Virgina Potter and Opie Osborne, granddaughter Dawn Rietman.

She is survived by sister Edith Duckworth, daughters Wanda Stines and Kim Honeycutt, son in laws James Carr, Robert Cox and Kelly Honeycutt, sister in laws Lola (Rob) Cox, Thelma, Ginny, Joan Blackwell and Betty Jo Choucalas. Grandchildren Kevin (Kim) Gotch, Paula Rietman, Brandy May, David Redepenning, Jena Stines, Grant, Lucas (Holli) Honeycutt. Great Grandchildren Dawn May and Ashton Stines. Several nieces and nephews.

Ruby was a graduate of Cloudland High School and worked for ARA services at Levi's and for the Carter County Court Clerk's office. She was a member of Elizabethton church of Christ. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling with friends and being with her family.

The family wishes to thank her caretakers Jan Stafford and Lee Garland, the physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists at SSH PCU unit for their compassionate care.

Her wish was to be cremated. Visitation services will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel Sunday Feb 12th from 1 to 3 p.m. Service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Roby Ellis officiating.

2558 ELIZABETHTON - Mary E. O’Quinn, 80, Elizabethton was reunited with her husband on Sunday, June 20, 2021. She was born in Elizabethton to the late Della Mae Cole Carroll & Denton Carroll. Mary dedicated her life to her children & grandchildren. She enjoyed serving others through her Child Care Center and working at East River Park Christian Church in the Pre-School and Nursery Department. Her favorite past time was reading and spending time with family, whom she loved fiercely. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Herman O’Quinn.

Her legacy lives on through her children: Kim (Tom) Fowler, Tammy (Kenny) Hardin, Judy (John) Fletcher and Danny (Holli) O’Quinn. Her Grandchildren: Korey Hardin, Lacee (Austin) Reed, Cassi Fletcher, Marcus Fowler, Michael (Lily) Fowler, Lindsey (Taylor) LaFever, Patrick O’Quinn, Dawson O’Quinn, Madeline O’Quinn and Emma O’Quinn. Her Great Granddaughter: Kate Reed. Her Brother: James C. Carroll. Her Sisters: Jewel Oliver, Lois (Jim) Starnes and Brenda (Shirley) Bowers. Several nieces & nephews.

2559 ELIZABETHTON - Mary Esther Nave, 84, Elizabethton, passed away on 12/08/2021, from Covid Pneumonia. She was born and raised in the Valley Forge Community off Long Hollow Rd. She was the daughter of the late Coy Nave, Sr. and Minnie Little Nave. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Blanche Dolan, Vorita Hodge and Pansy Taylor and two brothers: Coy Nave, Jr. and Harold Lee Nave and one very special nephew, Joey Nave and one niece, Melissa Richardson. She was a retired CNA and Cook in the health care field. Mary was single all her life but she was a mother and friend to many, especially to her family and friends. She loved to clean, garden and cook. She will be greatly missed. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Farris Nave and a very special friend, Jerry Maupin. She is also survived by her special Fury Friend, Molly. Mary also is survived by her special friends: Jimmy Vanhorn, Elaine Brumitt, Lisa and DA Bowers and Family, Bill and Margaret Dolan and Mary Roberts, Rachel Laws, Bryson Laws and Brianna Hoyle Jenkins.

2560 ELIZABETHTON - Mary Evelyn Campbell Taylor, 88, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, March 11, 2016 at her residence.

She was born October 20, 1927 in Carter County to the late Taft and Grace Bradshaw Campbell. Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker who loved doing for her family and her church family. She was an active member of First Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her family, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Taylor, who died April 4, 2005; by a sister, Carolyn Richards; and a brother, Bruce Campbell.

Survivors include her daughters, Paulette Taylor Johnson and husband Paul Rochester, Aurora, Colorado and Mitzi Phillips and husband Keith, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Curtis Johnson and wife Hillary, Christie Clare and husband Richard, Rachel Rochester, Matt Rochester and Dustin Phillips; six great grandchildren; four sisters, Georgia Berry, Elizabethton, Betty Kyte, Williamsburg, Virginia, Peggy Richardson, Johnson City and Darrel Ann Fair and husband Packy, Elizabethton; four brothers, James S. 2561 ELIZABETHTON - Mary Kate Reece Estep, 85, Elizabethton passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, in the Hillview Nursing Center.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late McDonald & Myrtle Reece. She was retired from the East Tennessee Undergarment Factory. Mrs. Estep was a member of the Roan Street Church of God where she had served as a Sunday school teacher for several years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roy K. Estep, who died December 14, 2003; by a sister, Maude Farthing; and a brother, Donald Reece. She was an excellent seamstress.

Survivors include two sons & daughters-in-law, Wayne & Stephanie Estep, Morristown and Glen & Barbara Estep, Johnson City; a brother-in-law, Carl Estep, Elizabethton; several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Bewley officiating.

2562 ELIZABETHTON - Mary Lou Arnett Brewer, 90, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at her residence. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Andy & Alma Caroline Banner Arnett. She was of the Methodist Faith. She was a member of Butler Chapter # 218 Order of Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William B. “Bill” Brewer who passed away July 28, 2002, by two sisters: Lillie Mae Ellis and Frances Arnett and one brother: Tivis Arnett.
Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law: Rosemary & Tony Clabo, Johnson City. Her Grandson: Joshua Clabo and fiancée Sarah. Her Granddaughters: Lynsey Bernard & Husband Stephen and Jennifer Clabo. 2563 ELIZABETHTON - Mary Lowe Cole, age 93, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Steven Jacob Lowe and Lena Belle Grindstaff Lowe and was born in Carter County on January 19, 1930. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Taylor in 1973; her second husband, Arlie Cole in 2022; an infant daughter, Patricia Kay Taylor; and five siblings, Myrtle Estep, Steve Lowe, Jr., Jemema Ensor, Charlie Lowe and Wilma Williams.

Mary was a homemaker and a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets and loved to collect tea pots.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Barney Taylor (Beverley) of Middletown, OH; a daughter, Priscilla Davis (Eddie) of Elizabethton; a brother, Lonnie Lowe of Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Heather (fiancé Austin Church) of Elizabethton; and a great-granddaughter, Matti Abel of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

2564 ELIZABETHTON - Mary “Midge” McQueen, age 80, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Signature Health Care of Elizabethton. Midge was born in Carter County to the late Arnold and Lulean Dolan Emmert. In addition to her parents, Midge was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Karen; a son, Kit B. McQueen; a great grandson, Timothy James Vaughn; a brother, Roy Emmert; and a sister, Brenda Crowe.

Mary was a homemaker and a member of Big Spring Church of Christ. She was a loving mother, wife and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with family and going camping.

Those left to cherish Midge’s wonderful memory include her husband of fifty five years, Kit Carson McQueen of Elizabethton; a daughter, Donna Vaughn and husband Jimmy of Elizabethton; a son, Christopher Gene McQueen and wife Dorothy also of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Channa Williams, Brandi Estep and husband Donny, Josh Vaughn and wife Cassie, Skylar McQueen and Christian McQueen; four great grandchildren, Ky-Ream Desselle, Edgar Estep, Oliver Vaughn and Owen Vaughn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A celebration of Midge’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, August 23, 2021 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton with Pastor Glen Layfield officiating. 2565 ELIZABETHTON - Master Sergeant James Andrew Whaley, US Army (Ret.), age 77, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

James was born in Butler, Tennessee to the late David Clifford Whaley and Rosa Lee Lunceford Whaley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Jeanette Deloach Whaley; and his brother, Jerry Wayne Whaley.

James was a graduate of Hampton High School, where he had played football and basketball. He was a United States Army veteran of 22 years, during which he did two tours in the Korean War and three tours in the Vietnam War. James was a Green Beret and spent over 16 years overseas on duty. James received several awards during his service time including, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, RVN Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Army Commendation Medal 3D OLC, RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), 4 Overseas Service Bars, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Senior Aircraft Crewman Badge, Good Conduct Medal 6th Award, Master Aircraft Crewman Badge, and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was known affectionately by his VA co-workers as the "popcorn man." James attended Long Hollow Baptist Church and was a member of the DAV, the Shriners, and was a Mason. He was very proud of his military service and truly loved being a servant to his country and his community, he also loved his church and his church family and enjoyed fishing.

James is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and Lavonia's great niece, Emma, who he called "sweet pea."

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Master Sergeant James Andrew Whaley will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Ray Stockton and Rev. Ray Green, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sounds of Victory and Margaret Calderon.

2566 ELIZABETHTON - Max "Scrap" Wilburn White, age 81, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Hillview Health Center.

Max was born in the Fish Springs Community of Butler, Tennessee to the late Willard and Wilma Lewis White. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Lynn White; and a brother, Robert "Bobby" White.

Max had been employed at North American Rayon Corporation as a supervisor and was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. He was a United States Air Force veteran and was an avid golfer.

2567 ELIZABETHTON - Maxwell “Mack” Collins, age 85, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 18, 2021 unexpectedly of Covid Pneumonia at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mack was born in Elizabethton to the late Eston “Red” Collins and Maxie Carrier Collins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Collins, Gary Collins and Donald Collins; one sister, Thelma Collins Taylor; and his father and mother-in-law, Clate and Maggie Oliver.

Mack retired as a brick mason and was a member of Blue Springs Christian Church. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing baseball and softball. Mack also loved to garden and can, and loved to give vegetables to his family and friends. He also enjoyed hanging out at “The Barn” with the barn gang.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, June Oliver Collins, of the home; his daughter, April Collins of Telford, TN; two precious sisters, Lyndal Lowe and Phyllis Davis, both of Elizabethton and two “adopted daughters”, Gayle White and Sarah White, both of Telford, TN. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive, as well as “the barn gang”.

A celebration graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 24, 2021 in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery with Dr. James Richardson officiating. 2568 ELIZABETHTON - Melissa Rose Trivette, age 53, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at her home surrounded by family and friends. Melissa was born in Carter County, Tennessee to Rose Morris Stout and the late Linzy “Reed” Trivette. Melissa was well known as “Missy” with family and friends and as “Mo” with her Walmart DC friends. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandmothers Flossie Morris and Daisy “Maxine” Trivette and special aunts Teresa Metcalf, Marilyn Trivette, and Eula Belle Barger.

Melissa worked at Walmart Distribution Center in Midway, Tennessee as the Assistant General Manager. She was the General Manager at the Walmart Distribution Centers in Alachua and Macclenny, Florida.

Melissa was an incredibly giving person and loved her family and friends beyond measure. She will be remembered by her beautiful soul and the positive impact that she made in the lives of others. She enjoyed “girls trips,” being with family and friends, going to the beach, and cooking.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Maynard Floyd & Sara Johnson Bowers. Melody was a graduate of Hampton High School. She was a teacher’s assistant with special needs at Valley Forge Elementary School. Melody was a member of New Hope Ministries but attended Hampton First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years: Phillip Carpenter who passed away May 10, 2018 and by a brother: Jerry Bowers, Jr.

Survivors include her sons: Phillip & Breelyn and Patrick & Pam. Six Grandchildren who called her Nanny and she took care of them until they were in school: Sara, Gracie, Phillip, Chandler, Robbie & Rachel. 2570 ELIZABETHTON - Mike Northmore, 56, of Elizabethton, TN entered into rest on June 29, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family following a brave battle with cancer. Mike was born and raised in Elizabethton, a town he loved and never left. He was a 1984 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Mike was of the Christian faith. He worked as a parts consultant in several local car dealerships for over 30 years. His passions included model trains, airplanes and guns. He was an avid sports fan and always cheered on his Cyclones, Vols and Titans. He loved to be outdoors camping, fishing or just hanging out at the lake. He was a master on the grill. Mike loved his feline companions dearly, especially Chessie, who stayed by his side until the very end.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Christine Northmore of Elizabethton, TN. He is survived by his loving wife, Suzy Northmore of Elizabethton, TN, step-daughter, Heather Livingston and husband John, of Johnson City, TN, as well as many cousins, uncles and aunts who loved him dearly.

2571 ELIZABETHTON - Mildred Virginia Nelson Chambers, age 98, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 after a short illness in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born August 23, 1924 in Sullivan County, to the late James Andrew and Maggie Sigman Nelson. Mildred loved to sing, work in her flowers and cook. She was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Raymond Montie Chambers, by two sons: Harvey Wayne Chambers and Montie Eugene Chambers, four brothers: William, Frank, Joe, and George D. Nelson and one sister: Alice Lane.

Survivors include One Daughter: Judy Ann Chambers Johnson and husband Gordon, Abingdon, Virginia, Two Sons: Edward Emerson Chambers and wife Bobbie, Roan Mountain and Terry Allen Chambers and wife Janice, Honaker, VA. One Sister: Shelby Jean Hyatt and husband Albert M. Hyatt, Piney Flats. Mitchel was born in Mountain City, Tennessee to the late Warren and Helen Ruth McCloud Fritts. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Emeline Fritts, from Mountain City; and his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Ida McCloud, from Elizabethton.

Mitchel retired from the City of Johnson City Water and Sewer Department. He was a member of Eastside Freewill Baptist church, where he was involved in the Food Pantry and Transportation Ministry. Mitchel was also a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Bluff City for 12 years. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles and camping and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 44 years, Nora Hardin Fritts, of the home; a son, Stacy Fritts, also of the home; a brother, Phil V. Fritts, of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; and his first cousins, Helen and Phyllis.

2573 ELIZABETHTON - Montie "Earl" Chesser, age 59, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at his beloved home. He was born in Carter County, Tennessee.

Earl enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18, and devoted 4 years to serving our country. After retirement from the armed forces, Earl returned to Carter County to pursue his career, and natural talent as a Diesel Mechanic. Earl was a 'Good Ol' Country Boy" in every sense of the term. It didn't matter if Earl was fishing, shooting guns, or driving around enjoying the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, he was always enjoying life's simplest pleasures.

He is survived by his only child who was his pride and joy, Amanda Thrift also known as Brute or Bae throughout her childhood years; his former spouse, Cindy Chesser; five brothers, M.D. Chesser, Robert Benfield, Dale Benfield, Alan Benfield, and Danny Ray Benfield; six sisters, Peggy Hicks, Unise Hicks, Louse Blevins, Connie Henry, Willma Benfield, and Mary Sparks, who all reside in East Tennessee.

Earl will continue to be loved and forever missed by his family, friends, and beloved cat, Noodles.

2575 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Aaron Howard Pierce, age 77, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with the Lord and loved ones passed before him Friday, September 6, 2019 in the Holston Valley Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Joe H. and Creola Oliver Pierce. He was a 1960 graduate of Unaka High School where he was a standout football player. Aaron retired from Great Lakes Research Corporation. He also was employed by the State Highway Department and as custodian at Hunter First Baptist Church, Elizabethton for nearly five years. He attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church and was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church, Elizabethton. Aaron was active in Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer fireman for the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed sports, especially football, fishing and spending time with his family especially around the holiday season.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by ten siblings. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Lynda Sue Tolley Pierce, of the home; his children, Tim and Penny Pierce, Mark and Sherry Pierce, Tammy and John Nanney, Debbie LeVeau and Doug Wilson all of Elizabethton; Todd and Lin Stevens, Gray and April and Richie Hooven, Kingsport; a sister, Cynthia Ensor and husband Henry, Elizabethton; sisters-in-law, Anna Ruth Pierce and Gaye Pierce; fourteen grandchildren and their spouses and ten great-grandchildren. 2576 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Bill Jenkins, age 96, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Elizabethton, TN he was the son of the late Roscoe and Eliza Forbes Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins retired in 1982 after more than twenty years from the Elizabethton Star newspaper. He loved sports and writing sports columns for the Elizabethton Star. He was a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Jenkins was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He fought in every major campaign in the European Theatre and was a Purple Heart recipient.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Flora Hall Jenkins and his twin brother, Henry Jenkins. A lifelong resident of Carter County, he was the son of the late Fred. N and Ida L. Moore Whitehead. He retired from the Elizabethton Housing Authority in the Maintenance Department. Mr. Whitehead was a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church and he was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Club.

2578 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Cecil Wayne Peeks, age 73, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family, on Monday, June 11, 2018, at his home.

He was the son of the late Cecil and Rina "Mandy" (Taylor) Peeks and was born in Elizabethton, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Cindy Hardin.

Wayne graduated from Unaka High School, Class of 1963, where he played football. He and Loretta were married at East Park Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN in 1965. He retired from Sears and after his retirement he worked at both Walmart and Advance Auto. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Elizabethton where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed playing golf and especially loved doing anything that involved his granddaughter Makenzie!

Wayne is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Loretta Campbell Peeks, of the home; his daughter Tiffany Peeks Revis and son-in-law Mark Revis; his granddaughter Makenzie Revis, all of Elizabethton; two sisters-in-law, Earlene Campbell, of Southport, NC; Aggie Lyons and her husband, Bobby, of Carolina Shores, NC; and a brother-in-law, Tim Campbell and his wife, Terri, of Elizabethton. Several cousins on both the Taylor side and Peeks side also survive.

There will be no formal visitation or funeral service, however family and friends are invited to visit the family at the home at any time.

A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late G. L. and May Britt Moreland. Mr. Moreland retired from the Elizabethton City Police Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran and he was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge 238 F&AM and the Shriners. As a member of the Shriner's he participated in the Shrine Oriental Band and was involved in their paper sales and the Shriner's circus. Charlie loved being at the lake with friends and spending time with his grandchildren and his fiance' Shirley Sanders.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bertha Moreland, who raised him; an uncle, Robert Moreland and a cousin he considered as a brother, Bobbie Deal. He was born in Vivian, West Virginia, the son of the late Fred H. and Virginia Cannaday Shoun, and had lived most of his life in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Mr. Shoun was a 1955 graduate of Unaka High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of American Legion Post # 49. He also held an associate degree in accounting and was retired from Raytheon Corporation where he worked for thirty-eight years. He loved to play music, he was a Christian, an ordained deacon and was a Sunday School teacher. He was also a founding member of the Carter County Humane Society. Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of fifty-five years, Barbara Moody Shoun, of the home; a daughter, Ann Byrd and her husband, J.D. Murfreesboro, TN; a son, Gene Shoun and his wife, Katherine, Charlotte, NC; four granddaughters, Whitney Byrd, Reno, NV; Jessica Byrd, Bowling Green, KY; Sgt. Amanda White, (USAF), Langley Air Force Base, VA; Katie Cingel, Danville, VA; a sister, Virginia Coleman, and her husband, Richard, Elizabethton; special friends, Brenda and Darrell Cannon, Elizabethton; Jason and Sara Cox, Elizabethton; his beloved dog, Lulu and Lulu's two doggie friends, Sidney and Sambo. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A service to honor the life of Mr. Shoun will be conducted on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with Rev. Ray Colbaugh officiating. Music will be under the direction of his son, Gene Shoun and his granddaughter, Katie Cingel. 2581 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. J L "Poss" Collins, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital.

He was the son of the late George E. and Maggie Alice Taylor Collins and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his step-mother, Annie Pierce Collins; one sister, Cora Glover; and three step-sisters, Pauline Odom, Louise Grindstaff and Helen Phillips.

Mr. Collins was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict in the 2nd Infantry Division, "L" CO. 23rd Infantry War Branch. He was engaged in battle during the war including the battle of Chip Yon Ni, the May Defense, the Spring Defense and the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge. He was the proud recipient of several citations and medals relating to his service including the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the ROK Korean War Service, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the 50th Anniversary Korean Commemorative award, the United Nations Medal, the American Defense Commemorative award, and most notably, the Purple Heart. He was a very patriotic person who loved God, his family and the USA.

From July 1957 until March of 1989, Mr. Collins was employed at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Hospital as a supervisor in the nutrition and food service department. He was also the owner/operator of the Poss Variety Store on Stoney Creek for many years. He was member of the V.F.W., and the D.A.V. as well as being an avid collector of Korean War Memorabilia. He enjoyed watching the Lady Vols Basketball Team, NASCAR and as they were growing up, watching and supporting his grandsons as they played in various sports. He loved to go to flea markets, and was an extensive traveler. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Edna Humphrey Collins of the home; a son, Larry D. Collins and his wife, Chris, Johnson City; a daughter, Teresa Collins Carver, Elizabethton; four grandsons, Ryan Collins and his wife, Brittany, Evan Collins, Sean Collins and his wife, Grace, and Alden Collins. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mr. Collins will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Michael Klaus, Mr. John Smith, ministers, and Dr. David Mills, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Gene Estep, organist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service and at the home at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. 2582 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Jack Shook, 81, Elizabethton, went to be with his heavenly father on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, daughter in law and sons in law.

Mr. Shook was born and raised in Plumtree, North Carolina on April 23, 1937. He was a lifelong resident of Elizabethton, TN. He was the son of Charles and Ebbie Shook.

He was a graduate of Cranberry High School,and attended Lees McCrae College and Steed College.

Mr. Shook was retired from Siemens, Raytheon and Sperry Univac where he was on the design team that tested the computers for the Apollo space missions and designed the now famous barcode. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force and TN Army National Guard. He willingly volunteered his time with the Carter County Rescue Squad and continued to teach CPR classes for not only the Rescue Squad but also former places of employment. He was a former member of Hunter First Baptist Church and a current member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church. Jack always loved Sunday School and said that it was the foundation of the church. He taught Sunday School for many years and served as Sunday School superintendent and was proud to see record attendance while holding that position. He was known to be a huge encourager to the youth and to those who would go on to be missionaries and ministers.

Jack loved the Lord and was always faithful to serving him. His first love was the Lord followed by his family and country. He was always ready to brag on his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-children. He had a quick wit and would always give you that look. He was known as dad, papa, daddy Jack and Mr. Shook (heavy on the Mister). He will be greatly missed by all of those that loved him so much but we rest in the hope that he is now made whole and we will see him again soon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Shook and a brother Robert Shook.

Survivors include his wife, Josie Kirbo Shook, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law Dale & Kelly Shook, Elizabethton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pennie & Brent Terry, Elizabethton and Jackie & Brian Potter, Kingsport. Six grandchildren Leslie & Robert Pickens, Emilee & Jarread Whitehead, BreAnna Terry, Blake Terry, (fiancé Amber English), Lauren Potter, Four great-grandchildren, Hayden Pickens, Hadley Georgiou, Eliza and Ellie Whitehead, Two step-children, Randy & Lisa Kirbo, Asheville, NC and Nancy & Jacob Sills of Covington, GA. Three step grandchildren Josh (Katy) Kirbo, and Mia Kirbo, Sarah (Brandon) Casto and two step great-grandchildren Natalie and Benjamin Kirbo. Four sisters, Betty Herbst, Barbara Buchanan, Florence Dellinger, and Alice Stamey all of Spruce Pine, NC and one brother Harry Shook of Spruce Pine, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. following visitation from 4:00-7:00 at Memorial Funeral Home. The service will be conducted by Reverend Dennis Wilson and Reverend Jim Hawk. Active pallbearers include Brian Potter, Brent Terry, Blake Terry, Robert Pickens, Jarread Whitehead, and Keith Glover. 2583 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. James A. Maupin, age 97, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Johnson City, he was the son of the late George Hugh Maupin and Mattie Mae Nidiffer Maupin. James graduated from Elizabethton High School and was a member of the 1938 E.H.S. state championship football team. He retired from the Maytag Company and attended Elizabethton Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in World War II where he was a PT Instructor. James was an avid, serious golfer and enjoyed sports.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou Riley Maupin; five brothers and four sisters with James being the last surviving sibling. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty Jean Whitson Maupin, of the home; a daughter, Judy Kaye Maupin Stoffle and husband William, New Orleans, LA; step-daughters, Joan Fair, Vickie Lynn Russell, Debra Reece and husband Dwight and Patty Pierce, all of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Kari Stoffle and Lori Stoffle; ten step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren and a special niece, Diane Roberts and husband Steve, Watauga. 2584 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. James Paul Pearson, age 90, of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

A native of Elk Mills, TN he was the son of the late Grover Clyde and Hattie Mary Anna Eggers Pearson. He was a graduate of Hampton High School where he played basketball and he attended Milligan College. Mr. Pearson had worked at Bemberg, Beaunit and North American Rayon and retired as a Vice-President and Plant Engineer in charge of Research and Development at Universal Fibers, formerly Camac Corporation, Bristol, VA . Mr. Pearson was a long standing member of 67 years at Southside Christian Church, Elizabethton where he was instrumental in building the new sanctuary. He was a former teacher in the Adult and Youth Sunday School Classes and had served as a Deacon and Elder. Mr. Pearson enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on cars, mowing the yard, and fixing anything for others.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Dorothy Clark Pearson; five brothers, Howard Pearson, Dale Pearson, Ernest Pearson, Edsel Pearson and Doug Pearson and a sister, Geraldine Stanton. Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Dr. James M. 2585 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Jennings Lee Wagner, age 86, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Monday, October 14, 2019 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was born in Bluff City, TN and was the son of the late Coscar Jennings Wagner and Elsie Webb Wagner. Jennings operated Wagner Insurance Agency for over fifty years. He was active in his community having served as a former President of the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce and as a former President as well as former Treasurer of the Rotary Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Wagner. 2586 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Kenneth F. Taylor, 71, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Taylor, a son of the late Elwood R. and Gladys Winters Taylor, was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Taylor, who lost his life fighting in the Vietnam War, and a sister, Charlotte Morton.

Mr. Taylor was a 1963 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam, receiving two Bronze Stars, the National Service Defense Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Ribbon with two Silver Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He also served three years with the Tennessee National Guard. He worked at Ed Morse Saturn-Cadillac in Tampa, FL, from 1997-2007, then at Bill Gatton Mountain Empire Saturn where he worked in sales until General Motors discontinued the Saturn Brand and he retired. He attended Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church and was also a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center. He also really loved his pets, Sam and Patches, enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and football.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of thirty-three years, Barbara A. Pierce Taylor, of the home; a brother, Conway (Doug) Taylor, Johnson City; four sisters, Vickie Barry and her husband, Wayne, Mountain City; Diane Rasnick, and her husband, W.C., Elizabethton; Frances Sluder and her husband, Fred, Elizabethton; Jenny Rosenbaum, Ringold, GA; and his special friends, Kent and Lisa Gunderson, Nashville, TN. Several nieces and nephews, including a special great-niece, Makenzie Miller, also survive.

2587 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Lewis "LD" Guinn, age 76, 313 East H Street, Elizabethton, TN passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Claude and Rachel Puckett Guinn. "LD" retired as a bread man from Flowers Bakery. After his retirement he worked as a funeral assistant with Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home for ten years. "LD" was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church, Elizabethton where he served as deacon. He was a great handyman and was known as Mr. Fix-it. "LD" loved his family and was an avid NASCAR fan. He especially enjoyed attending the Rod Runs in Pigeon Forge every year with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mack Guinn and by a half-brother, Tom Puckett. Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Ruby Birchfield Guinn, of the home; a son, Randy Guinn and his fiancé Kristin Powell, of Elizabethton; a daughter, Julie Canter and her husband Westley, Jonesborough, TN; grandchildren, Stacey Guinn, Austin Guinn, Logan Guinn, Westley Canter Jr. and Mercedes Canter; several great-grandchildren and brothers and sisters, Lucille Owenby, Pauline McKinney, Erma Lee Stevens, Rose Lewis and her husband Gordon, Louise Whitehead and her husband Carmen and Ed Guinn and his wife Dean, all of Elizabethton. 2588 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Ralph Brown Grindstaff, 85, 1267 Charity Hill Road , Elizabethton, died on Saturday, December 16, 2006, in the Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Grindstaff was the son of the late Letha Garland and was a native of Carter County. He enjoyed attending Hampton Church of God. He was a retired welder and heavy equipment operator. He especially enjoyed woodworking, making children's rockers and other furniture. He was well known in his neighborhood as the "fix it" man. Mr. Grindstaff served in the US Army and was a veteran of WWII.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Grindstaff was preceded in death by two daughters, Frances Deloach and Lorraine Lippard; and a grandson, Keith Deloach.

Mr. Grindstaff is survived by his wife, Edna Nidiffer Grindstaff, of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, The Rev. Carl and Janie Grindstaff, Sam and Melissa Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton, Charles Lester and Patricia Grindstaff, of Johnson City, The Rev. Paul and Sherry Grindstaff, of Hildebran, NC; two daughters and one son-in-law, Margaret Bobbitt, of Elizabethton, and Louise and Estill Sherrill, of Morrison, TN; one step-son and step-daughter-in-law, The Rev. 2589 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Randy Steve Crowe, 71, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, on Friday, December 1, 2017, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.

He was the son of the late Glenn and Ruth Farthing Crowe and was born in Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Crowe.

Mr. Crowe was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Tri-State Air Cooled Engines where he was a manager for forty-seven years. He also owned his own small engine repair shop. He taught small engine repair at Science Hill High School and also at the Herman Robinson Vocational School. He was a mason and a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F & AM. He loved cooking and gardening, especially growing tomatoes and cucumbers. He was a fan of UT football and also of the Lady Vols basketball team. Mr. Crowe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and was good to everyone he knew. He was a member of Big Springs Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, of fifty-two years, Brenda Emmert Crowe of the home; a daughter, Melissa Crowe Buxton and her husband, Don, of Jonesborough; a son, Nathan Crowe, and his wife, Rachel, of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Thomas Buxton and his wife, Tiffany, of Kingsport; Kelby Buxton, of Jonesborough; two brothers, Terry Crowe, and his wife, Ruth and Larry Crowe, and his wife, Gwen, all of Elizabethton. He was a son of the late Frederick "Bud" and Billie Bowers Shell and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Worthington Shell and a brother, Joseph Shell.

Richard was a former X-ray Technician and a former Physical Therapist. He enjoyed reading and was of the Catholic faith.

2591 ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Troy Lee Perry, age 66, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center.

He was born in Elizabethton but grew up in Bluff City and was the son of the late Troy Jack Perry and Ollie Shipley Perry. Mr. Perry was owner of the Perry's Guttering Company. He was of the Christian faith and was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Vietnam Era. He enjoyed golf, brain teaser puzzles and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

The family will hold a graveside service and inurnment at a later date at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.

2592 ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Dollie E. Church, 91, 146 Liberty Hollow Road, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2007, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Lawson and Mollie Johnson Morton. She was a retired seamstress. Mrs. Church was a member of the Stoney Creek Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for several years and also sang in the Choir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A.C. Church; five brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include two sons & their wives: Gene & Pat Church and Glenn & Joyce Church, all of Elizabethton; a daughter & son-in-law: Carol & Rev. Robert Howard, Kannapolis, North Carolina; Five Grandchildren and their spouses: Gregory E. & Celeste Church, Barry R. & Sabrina Howard, Donna & Randy Belk, David & Vicky Church and Stephen & Lori Church; five great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

2593 ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Edna Humphrey Collins, age 90, of Elizabethton, TN passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at her residence.

She was a daughter of the late William Francis and Rose Velda Reese Humphrey and was born in Johnson County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, JL Collins, one brother, William "Bill" Humphrey and one sister, Nora Lou Estep.

Edna was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and enjoyed attending the high school reunions throughout the years. She retired from Raytheon and was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton as well as the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She enjoyed attending Bible Study on Monday mornings, traveling, dining, going to the movies and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed watching her four grandsons play sports.

Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Larry D. Collins and wife Chris of Johnson City; one daughter, Teresa Collins Carver of Elizabethton; four grandsons, Ryan Collins and wife Brittany of Morristown; Evan Collins of Johnson City; Sean Collins and wife Grace of Asheville, NC and Alden Collins of Morristown; sisters, Ruth Baker of Panama City, FL; Mary Bryant and Martha Dorsey both of Elizabethton; and one brother, Kenneth "Hawkeye" Humphrey of Elizabethton. 2594 ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Elwanda Norris Reeser, age 96, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 in the Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton.

A native of Watauga County, NC she was the daughter of the late Bynum Lee Norris and China Rose Church Norris. Mrs. Reeser was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a former member of Doe River Baptist Church, Elizabethton. While at Doe River Baptist Church she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Reeser enjoyed working in her gardens and especially loved her flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Reeser in 2002; a son, Ralph D. Reeser; a sister, Gladys McCracken and a brother, Melbourne Norris. Those left to cherish her memory include a son Floyd R. Reeser and wife Joy, Elizabethton, TN; a daughter, Phyllis M. 2595 ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Florence Holdren, age 96, of Elizabethton, TN left this world for her Heavenly Home on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Alice Blevins Daniels. Mrs. Holdren retired from the Carter County School System as a Cafeteria Manager. She was a member of Borderview Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and spending time with her grand-children. She also enjoyed riding the golf cart around her neighborhood and visiting with her neighbors. Florence proudly still possessed her driver's license which would not have expired until her 100th birthday much to the chagrin of her children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rinard Holden; a sister, Anna Mae Daniels and a brother, Howard Daniels.

2596 ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Frances "Bobbie" Shouse, age 91, 129 Ruby Avenue, Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, August 25, 2017 in Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Robert T. and Ida Campbell Crumley. Mrs. Shouse was a LPN who worked in a private duty setting at St. Elizabeth Hospital and at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was one of the first nurses to work in the ICU and CCU units at the hospital. Mrs. Shouse began her career in nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital and ended her time there at Ivy Hall Nursing Home when she passed. She was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ. Mrs. Shouse enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Shouse; sisters, Dorothy Vance, Mary Collins, Lela Kirk, Edna Fair and Hildred Hodge and brothers, Gilbert Crumley, Paul Crumley, Joe Crumley and George Crumley. 2597 ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Gloria Maxine Jenkins, age 84, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Frank and Pearl Barnett. Mrs. Jenkins worked for Texas Instruments as an electronic assembler for eighteen years until her retirement. She was a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church and served meals with the Women's Ministry. She enjoyed gardening and was known for her immaculate flower gardens and her work ethic.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rod "Big Lou" Jenkins on February 17, 2000; two brothers, Willie Barnett and Carmack Barnett and a sister, Edna Simerly. Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Gary Jenkins and wife Lisa, Elizabethton, TN; a daughter, Joy (Joyce) Sottile and husband Johnny, Huntsville, AL; five grandchildren, Jessica White and husband Brad, Lance Jenkins and wife Carrie, Logan Jenkins and wife Megan and Joseph Jenkins, all of Elizabethton and Taylor Holsclaw and fiance' Nick Jurgens, Huntsville, AL and six great-grandchildren. 2598 ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Haven White, 88, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016, at NHC Health Care. She was the daughter of the late David and Kittie Campbell Tester and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman "Curley" White; a daughter, Patricia White; a sister, Ruby Cross; a brother, Maynard Howard Tester; and a son-in-law, John VanHuss, Jr.

Mrs. White was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church which she loved dearly, as well as her Sunday School Class. She was very family oriented and she was very proud of all her family. Her granddaughter and her great-grandsons were a great source of joy for her. She enjoyed reading, gardening, baking, sewing and decorating. Mrs. White was also very fond of traveling and was a world traveler.

She is survived by her children, Barbara VanHuss, Johnson City; Pam King, and her husband, Dwight, Piney Flats; her granddaughter, Heather Hambrick, and her husband, Kacey; Johnson City; great-grandsons, Cole and Kipp Hambrick, Johnson City; and a special niece, Tammy Etherton, Knoxville. Several beloved nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. White will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. A native of Johnson County, TN she was the daughter of the late James and Rita Grindstaff Cable. Mrs. Peters was a homemaker and she also worked at Peters Grill for many years. She was a member of Union Hill Freewill Church and loved to garden in her flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Clyde Peters; sisters, Anna Mae Cable and Vertie Marie "Sis" Peters and a brother, Clifford Cable. Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Loretta P. Colbaugh and her husband Rev. 2600 ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Margie Trivett Bice, age 90, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. A native of Poga, TN she was the daughter of the late (T.L.) Lackey and Oda Guy Trivett. Mrs. Bice was a homemaker and was a teacher during World War II at Elk Mills School and Charity Hill School. She was a member of Heartland Fellowship for sixty-nine years where she served as Church Clerk and Treasurer and leader of the Women's Missionary Auxiliary for many years. Mrs. Bice enjoyed camping, hiking, sewing, quilting and crocheting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Bice; a son, Johnny Bice; sisters, Gladys Lund, Mildred Treadway and Ruby Trivett and brothers, Roy Trivett and Oscar Trivett.
