2501 ELIZABETHTON - Johnie Eleanor Pierce Estep, 86, Elizabethton passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital , with her loving children by her side.

Born June 22, 1931 to John B. and Amanda Wilson Pierce. Johnie was a homemaker and also a retired housekeeper at the Carter County Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, N. D. Estep and one son David Estep.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Estep and four sons, Hobert (Wess Lee), Roger, Larry "Cap" (Linda) and Douglas Estep and fur baby, Sally. Also, left to cherish her memory are four grandchildren, Tammy Lancaster (Nathan), Crystal Bilbery (Daniel), Brian Estep (Audra), and Daverelle Estep and several great-grandchildren. Johnie is also survived by her half-sisters, Wanda Johnson, Naomi Pierce and Margie Pierce and half-brothers J. B. Pierce and Edgar Pierce and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Edgar Pierce officiating. Interment will be in the Estep Family Cemetery in Stoney Creek, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Active Pallbearers will be Nathan Lancaster, Daniel Bilbery, Noah Lancaster, Hayden Lancaster, Kent Buckles and Curtis Buckles . 2502 ELIZABETHTON - Joseph Lynn Campbell, 64, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at his residence. He was born March 21, 1958 in Carter County to the late E.C. & Nell Dugger Campbell. Joe was a 1976 graduate of Unaka High School where he played Basketball and Football. He retired as Director of Operations at the Elizabethton Electric System after 28 years of service. After his retirement from the Electric System, he was employed as Safety Instructor for J.T. & S. out of Murfreesboro. He loved hunting, camping and farming. Joe was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Daniel Campbell.

Survivors include his wife: Kimberly Holly Campbell. One Daughter: Jaclyn Gifford. Two Stepchildren: Autumn (Nathan) Kyte and Brandon Little. Two Brothers: Richard (Pam) Campbell and Edward (Roberta) Campbell. Several nieces and nephews. His two cats: Patches & Eddie.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 in the Fairview Baptist Church, Watauga Road, Elizabethton with Pastor Gary Roe officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be his many, many friends that he has made through the years.

2503 ELIZABETHTON - Juanita Pierce Tolliver, age 82, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Juanita was born in Mountain City, Tennessee to the late Joseph Wesley and Maude Morley Pierce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. "Bill" Tolliver on February 25, 2014; her brother, Edwin Pierce; and three sisters, Jo Ella Long, June Shoun and Kay Pierce.

Juanita moved to Elizabethton from Wilkesboro in 1986 and was a homemaker. She was a member of Wilkesboro United Methodist church and a member of Wilkes Extension Homemaker's Club in Wilkesboro, NC.

Those left to cherish her memory include three sons, Billy Tolliver and wife Carol, of Wilkesboro, NC, Tim Tolliver and wife Christi, of Granite Falls, NC, and Joe Tolliver, of Elizabethton; one sister, Hilda Absher and husband Bill, of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Jamie Tolliver and Miranda Tolliver, both of Wilkesboro, NC; one sister-in-law, Hazel Pierce, of Piney Flats; and several nieces and nephews, as well as her special extended family, Dr. Aubrey McElroy and wife Janey and family.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Juanita Pierce Tolliver will be conducted at 12:30 PM on Friday, December 16, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Estel Williams, officiating. A eulogy will be provided by Dr. Aubrey McElroy. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday.

The graveside service will follow in the Morley Cemetery in Mountain City, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be A.D. McElroy, Adam McElroy, Andrew McElroy, Matt Keller, Jessie Garland and Bill Jeffries. 2504 ELIZABETHTON - Judge Arden Lincoln Hill of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023, Judge Hill was born in Carter County, Tennessee, a son of the late Dayton and Nell (Lacy) Hill. In addition to his parents, Judge Hill was also preceded in death by his sister, June Hill Morton; his brother, Reverend Jack Hill; and his beloved daughter, Cynthia June Hill.

Judge Hill was a proud United States Army Air Corp veteran, having served his country valiantly in World War II. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and a graduate of the University of Tennessee Law School. He began his distinguished judicial career as the General Sessions Judge for Carter County, serving 8 years and then served an additional 24 years for the First Judicial District as Criminal Court Judge. Judge Hill was a loyal and devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 65 years and also as Deacon Emeritus. He was also a Sunday School teacher at Immanuel and was the last member of the Adult Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. He also served as a deaf communicator, using sign language at the church. Judge Hill enjoyed ETSU basketball and was also a member of the President’s Club at ETSU. He loved hunting and nature in general.

Those left to remember and cherish Judge Hill’s legacy include his loving wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Ann (McCampbell) Hill; his son, Mark Kevin Hill of Elizabethton; and his granddaughter, Catherine Voretta Hill of New York City; one nephew, Mike Hill; and one niece, Karen Hill Owen and her daughter, Caroline Hill Owen. Many fellow church family, neighbors, friends and extended family also survive and will miss him tremendously.

A celebration of Judge Arden Hill’s life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 6, 2023 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Tim Tapp and Pastor David Hyers officiating. A time for friends to visit with the family will be conducted between the hours of 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Monday.

Judge Hill will be laid to rest following the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be Mike Hill, Gary Owen, Bill Hampton and Greg Bowers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Carter County Bar Association and former judges including Judge Robert Cupp, Don York, Bill Grover, Dr. Larry Proffitt, Pres Wolfe, Preston Wolfe and Will Grover.

2505 ELIZABETHTON - June Campbell Estep, 85, Elizabethton went home to be with her Lord, Sunday March 27, 2016 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Harry Campbell, Sr. and Florence Bowling Campbell. Mrs. Estep was an employee of 7 hour Laundry for several years. She was a member of East Fairview Free Will Baptist Church and the Messenger Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and working with crafts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son: David Estep, Jr. and a brother: Harry Campbell, Jr.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years: David Estep. Three Children: Margaret (Robert) Luttrell, Judy Estep and Sandra Perkins all of Elizabethton. Five Grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris) Carter, Norman (Linda) Markland, Lisa (Jason) Norris, Brandy (Chris) Higginbothan and Robby (Kristen) Luttrell. Nine Great Grandchildren: Bo Carter, Schaun Carter, Cassie Graybeal, Russell Carter, Brianna Markland, Seth Carter, Malachi Higginbotham, Abby Luttrell and Katie Luttrell. Several nieces & nephews. Her special friends: Sandy Stevens and Ruthie Lovelace.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Norman Markland, Jr. and Rev. Greg Largent officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016 in the Highland Cemetery. Music will be the Men of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. 2506 ELIZABETHTON - June Collins, age 89, of Elizabethton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022. June was born in Carter County, TN to the late Luther and Irene Miller Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother; Bill Collins and brother-in-law, Tyler Welch.
June Collins was a woman of the Baptist faith who loved to shop, travel and spend time with her daughter and granddaughter. She was a graduate of Hampton High School and attended ETSU and Steed College. June made a career as a Legal Secretary for Duggar-Cole Attorney for forty five years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Carolyn Pilkton and husband Dean of Elizabethton; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Pilkton, sister, Jane Welch, nephews, Joshua Todd Welch and Antony Steven Collins; a great niece, Alli Nave; special friend, Charlotte Montgomery; caregiver, Wanda Hyder.
A service to honor the life of June Collins will be conducted at 6:30 PM on Jan. 22, 2022 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home-Elizabethton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 PM until the time of service in the funeral home chapel.

2507 ELIZABETHTON - June Elizabeth Hood Taylor, 93, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was born September 5, 1927 in Appalachia, Virginia to the late Andrew Jackson “AJ” Hood, Sr. & Margaret Louise Wright Hood. She had lived in Elizabethton since 1941. She was a 1946 graduate of Elizabethton High School. June retired from the Raytheon Corporation. Prior to that she was employed at the Beaunit Fibers Corporation, Elizabethton. She was a member of Big Springs Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard M. “Shorty” Taylor who passed away October 11, 1993, by a son: David Hood Taylor who passed away December 1999, by two brothers: Leon & Andy Hood and a sister: Anna Sue Jones.

Survivors include her son & daughter in-law: Lynn & Sandra Taylor, One Grandson: Justin Taylor. One Brother & Sister-in-Law: Gayle & Jobelle Hood, Elizabethton. 2508 ELIZABETHTON - Junior Lee Taylor, 88, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2023 in the Lakebridge Health Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Levi & Ida Estep Taylor. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Junior was a retired Truck Driver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nila Arnold Taylor who passed away January 23, 2012, by a half-brother, Paul Davis and by seven sisters: Eileen Estep, Sally Estep, Wilma Moffitt, Clara Cole, Martha Peters, Mary Lipps and Eva Lipps.

Survivors include three children: Inez Taylor, Terry Taylor and Jeff Taylor. One granddaughter: Sara Goodwin. One sister: Nora Moffitt. Several nieces and nephews including a special niece: Burless Estep.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Garland Cemetery with Mr. Harry “Buddy” Arnold officiating. Active Pallbearers will be David Grindstaff, Denver Campbell, Brian Arnold, Wayne Sams, Eddie Spears and Joe Estep. 2509 ELIZABETHTON - Karen DeEtte (Petrey) Meadows, age 78, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at NHC Healthcare in Johnson City with her daughter by her side holding her hand. Karen was born in Elizabethton on February 8, 1944, to the late James R. Petrey and China (Greer) Petrey. In addition to her parents, Karen was also preceded in death by her husband of five years, Al Meadows; and a son, Kenneth Michael Sheffield in 2020.

Karen was funny, witty, independent and strong willed. She had worked in several nursing homes as an LPN throughout her life. She had a servant’s heart and a strong work ethic. She made it her life’s work to help those that couldn’t help themselves and enjoyed lifting the spirits of both her patients, her coworkers and anyone that she knew. When her patients would pass away, she would always walk out with them one final time. Karen was a 40-year member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton and loved her church family and the Lord. She enjoyed playing the piano and crocheting but most of all she loved her family and visiting with her grandchildren, whom she adored and was so very proud of. She was truly a light to all that knew her and will be greatly missed.

Karen leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Kim (Richard) Haney of Elizabethton; her son, Kevin (Christie) Sheffield of Knoxville; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Sheffield of Pikeville, KY; her beloved grandchildren, Kaitlyn Haney of Elizabethton, Jake Sheffield of Knoxville, Lindsey (Ian) McKee of Maryville, TN and Chloe Wright of Knoxville; her sister, Roberta (J.C.) Bowers of Elizabethton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate Karen’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2022, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Mr. Michael Klaus, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by her granddaughter, Kaitlyn.

2510 ELIZABETHTON - Kate Irick Spain, 93 of Elizabethton, TN passed away on March 29, 2021 at Hermitage Health Care Center.

She was the daughter of the late Rody and Jennie Greene Evans of Butler, TN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Irick; three brothers, Carroll, Ralph, Lail; two sisters, Barbara and Mary Chasteen.

Kate retired from JC Penney's after 32 years, her great joy in life was traveling; if a tour bus was moving, she was on it. She made multiple friends over the years in her travels.

Kate is survived by her daughter Debbie and husband Tommy; grandchildren Lindsey, Chris and wife Stephanie.

She donated her body to the Quillen College of Medicine. She desired no services be held.

2511 ELIZABETHTON - Kathleen Ora Simerly Grindstaff, 87, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday June 20, 2018 in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Rady & Mamie Waycaster Simerly. Kathleen had worked for several years at Felty-Roland Florist, Bachelor Button Florist and Bowers Flowers. She retired from the Carter County School System as a Custodian. She was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 ½ years C.L. Grindstaff, one sister: Nadine Lambert and her brother: Ray Simerly.

Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law: Keith & Helen Grindstaff, Bristol, Tenn. Her Granddaughters: Holly Briscall & husband Jeremy, and Mia Gardner & husband Michael, all of Bristol. Eight Great Grandchildren. A nephew: Steve Hyder, Johnson City. Her God Daughters: Ginger Deloach & husband Tony, Heather Hopland & husband Kenny all of Elizabethton and Curry Deloach, Johnson City.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Siebenaler, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. 2512 ELIZABETHTON - Kathryn Jane Dugger-Edwards, age 58, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Kathryn was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to Jane Hensley Dugger, of Elizabethton and the late George Dugger, Jr. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her previous husband, John Mack; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Dugger Sr.; and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Opie Hensley; and two cousins, Mike Fouts and Brenda Dugger.

Kathy was a loving daughter and was dedicated to her family and to her profession. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a 1978 graduate of Elizabethton High School, where she was a member of the first women's basketball team. Kathy lived in Elizabethton with her husband Keith. During her spare time, Kathy enjoyed working in her garden, water aerobics, and riding her bicycle on the Tweetise Trail.

Kathy graduated from ETSU in 1982 and from Memphis University in 1986. She was admitted to the Tennessee Bar Association in 1988 and to the United States District Court for Eastern District of Tennessee in 1990.

After working as a secretary at Dugger and Cole Attorneys at Law, Kathy decided that she could do just as a good a job herself and enrolled in law school at Memphis University. While at Memphis, Kathy was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for contracts and nominated for Who's Who among American Law Students.

Kathy came back to Dugger and Cole in 1988 following her brother, father and grandfather. Her practice areas included real estate, domestic relations – divorce, custody, child support, contract disputes, corporations, estate planning including wills and probate. Kathy also handled appeals in the Tennessee Supreme Court and Tennessee Court of Appeals.

Kathy was a past president of the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club and was one of the first women to join the Club. She was awarded the John Hixon Fellowship Award for outstanding service. She was a member of D.A.R. and was a board member of the Elizabethton Housing Authority.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Keith Edwards, of the home; her mother, Jane Dugger, of Elizabethton; one brother, Mark Dugger and wife Vickie, of Elizabethton; one uncle, Jerry Hensley and wife Betty, of Johnson City; her cousins, Jerrie Sue Bowers and husband Jim Schweitzer, of Jonesborough, Tommy Fouts, of Elizabethton, the Honorable John F. Dugger, Jr. and wife Jean Ann, of Morristown, and Rebecca Griffin and husband Jim, of Charlotte, NC; a god child, Joyce Shanks, of Banner Elk, NC; and her nephews, Brett Baurle and wife Mary and their daughters, Zoe and Macy, all of Elizabethton and Dr. Eric Baurle and wife Sarah and their two children, Everett and Charlotte, all of Brentwood, TN. Numerous special friends also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Kathryn Jane Dugger-Edwards will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton with Reverend Raymond Amos, Sr., officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the church, prior to the service on Sunday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Fouts, Brett Baurle, Jeff Miller, Adam Shanks, Brady Williams and Bill Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Fields, Mike Lingerfelt, Bo Campbell, Eddie Hoover, Ed Dance and Jimmy Ensor.

2513 ELIZABETHTON - Kathryn Nidiffer Collins, 85, of 167 Sunrise Drive, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord Friday, July 14, 2017 at Johnson City Medical Center, with her family and friends by her side.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Andy J. Nidiffer and Josephine Nave Nidiffer. Kathryn was a 1949 graduate of Unaka High School and Steed College in Johnson City. She retired from Inland Container Corporation where she was employed over forty years. She married Earl Collins in 1953. They were married 57 years until his death in 2010.

For over 50 years Mrs. Collins was a faithful and active member of Hunter United Methodist Church, where most young people knew her as "Aunt Kat." She loved God and her church family, and devoted countless hours serving in many capacities .... Children's Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, Choir Director, and was currently the Worship Leader. She was very involved in Food Ministry for the sick and families experiencing loss. Her pantry was always stocked with food ready to prepare for someone in need. Recently she organized a monthly Men's fellowship group where they would sing for their supper. Kathryn was involved in raising money for different causes. Just last month she and several ladies of the church made home-made jam and sold to benefit Missions. She bought many jars herself to give to others. She especially enjoyed her Bible Study Group and trips with her Church Group – she was always ready to go on their next adventure. During her brief illness, her church is what she missed the most. Kat was always feisty and full of wit, even in her darkest hours. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Earl Collins, brother Isaac (Link) Nidiffer, and brother-in-law Jack Perkins.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister Joann Perkins, brother Jay (Katie) Nidiffer, and sister-in-law Carolyn Nidiffer all of Elizabethton; niece Katrina Nidiffer of Nashville; nephew Toby (Carol) Nidiffer, great nephew Andrew (Alyssa) Nidiffer, and great niece Kerri Nidiffer all of Marietta, GA. Many special cousins also survive.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017, from 5 to 7 pm at Hunter United Method Church followed by a celebration of life service with Estel Williams, Mike Berry, and Leann (Lou) Crandell officiating, and music provided by David Arney and Nancy Foutch. Graveside service will be on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 11am at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

2515 ELIZABETHTON - Kay M. Edens, 76, of Elizabethton, TN passed away on July 12 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Edens was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Elbert and Blanche Hyder Meredith and Lucille Meredith who graciously stepped in to help raise Kay after her mother died. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold D. Edens and a brother and sister-in-law Willie G. and Patsy Meredith.

Mrs. Edens is survived by a son, Mark Edens (Anna), a daughter, Beth Tester (Larry), and the greatest joy of her life- her granddaughter, Eden Tester. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Jean White and Nancy Alsup, a special niece, Carolyn Dawson, and a special nephew who called weekly, John Meredith. Mrs. Edens was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Christian Church and the Maggie Kyte Ladies’ Circle.

Kay was a 1964 graduate of Happy Valley High School and a 1966 graduate of Steed College. She retired from the VA Medical Center as a Medical Record Technician.

Kay was also a homemaker who enjoyed traveling, camping, cooking, shopping, canning, and freezing. She also enjoyed college football and basketball; especially the TN Vols teams. She also enjoyed being outdoors, nature, and the beauty of God’s creation.

2516 ELIZABETHTON - Ken Caraway died Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Hillview Health and Rehabilitation in Elizabethton, TN. He was born June 3, 1933 to the late Charlie and Edith Caraway. Ken received BA and MA degrees in English Literature from ETSU and a BD degree from Candler School of Theology, Emory University. He was a member of Holston Conference United Methodist Church serving churches in Fall Branch, Charleston; First and Johnson’s Chapel in Mountain City; Broadway, Maryville; Church Street and First in Knoxville; Etowah in Tennessee and First in Galax Virginia. Ken was an avid reader of all kinds of literature and was an active member of the Sunday evening group discussion on varied subjects and many books. He also wrote articles, poetry, and lessons for the Methodist Publishing House.
He was predeceased by his father, mother, brothers, Bob and Tip, and sisters, Frances and Jeanne. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jo; two sons, Brian and wife Renee of Maryville, Wendell of Mountain City; two grandchildren, Joshua of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Kelsey of Lebanon; brother, James and wife, Karinsue of Deerfield Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Ken will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverends John Crabtree, Don Morris, and Dr. Kathy Jamieson officiating. The committal service will follow at the columbarium.

2517 ELIZABETHTON - Kenneth Colbaugh, 80, Elizabethton passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Arthur & Nannie Pearl Forbes Colbaugh. He was retired from North American Rayon Corporation. Kenneth served in the United States Army having served in Korea. He was a member and Deacon of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. He was very proud of being a Christian and an US Army Veteran. This was evidenced on his 80th birthday cake which depicted an American & Christian flag, the two things in his life he cherished. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Virginia "Tootsie" Peters and Louella Colbaugh and a brother: Powell Colbaugh.

2518 ELIZABETHTON - Kenneth Dale Thomas, age 54, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Carter County, Tennessee, he was the son of Edward Thomas and Edna Hicks Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alvin E. and Orla Holtsclaw Hicks, and his paternal grandparents, Gurney and Helen Treadway Thomas; his father-in-law, Shelby Williams; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was a 1984 graduate of Hampton High School where he was voted “Mr. HHS” his senior year and played on the football team for four years. After graduation, he attended East Tennessee State University, graduating in 1988. He was employed by the Carter County Board of Education as a Student Management System Coordinator. He was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church.

Ken enjoyed bluegrass music and went to Japan for two weeks in 2005 with a local bluegrass group and entertained the citizens of that country. He also played the doghouse bass for other musical groups in the area throughout the years.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sharon Williams Thomas; two daughters, Elizabeth (Beth) Powell and husband Brent Powell and Suzanne James and husband Caleb James; one grandson, Owen Thomas Powell; one sister and brother-in-law, Karen Joyce and Mark Timbs; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nina Williams Hyder and husband Tommy Hyder; two nephews, Cody Hyder and wife Kelly Hyder and Adam Timbs and wife Allison Timbs; one niece, Shelly Hyder Martin and husband Dave Martin; mother-in-law, Linda Williams; five aunts and three uncles, Carrie Keene, Ruby Bennett, Ruth Barrie and husband Rick Barrie, Gary Thomas and wife Kay Thomas, James (Jim) Taylor and Kathleen Thomas Carden; four lifelong friends, Sam Stout, Brian Mathes, Tim Cable and Mick Kyte and numerous cousins also survive.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Dayton James & Winnie Ellen Arnett Mann. Kenneth was a 1954 graduate of Elizabethton High School, he also had classes at University of Tennessee and East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Army and the National Guard. He was an instructor for 20 years at North East State. He loved to fly and was a private Pilot for years. Kenneth was an avid UT Fan and NASCAR Fan. He loved to attend the Car shows and riding his Motorcycle and farm his family land. He was a former Airport Commissioner and a member of the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Jimmy Mann. Kenneth was a member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years: Joyce Hardin Mann. His Daughters: Kimberly (Carl) Miller, and Paula (Donnie)Hall. Two Grandchildren: Chelsie Maupin and Abby (Andrew) Martin. 2520 ELIZABETHTON - Kenneth Wayne Williams, age 76, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at his residence. Kenneth was born in Elizabethton to the late Harry Burgie and Ina Wilson Williams. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was also preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Michelle Williams.
Kenneth was a proud United States Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He was an electrical technician at ITT in Gray and also worked at Watauga Industries. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening – especially roses, fishing, telling jokes and loved his dogs.

2521 Elizabethton - Kimberly Renee “Kim” Buckner, age 54, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol, TN. She was the daughter of the late John Bell Holsclaw, Sr. and Donna Hendrix Holsclaw. Kimberly was a long-time employee of 30 years as a Pharmacy Technician for Johnson City Medical Center. She was a 1985 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ. Kimberly never met a stranger. She loved to be around people and her dogs (Jack and Bootsie.)

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Christie Michelle Holsclaw; paternal grandparents, Fred and Susan Holsclaw; maternal grandparents, Cody and Irene Hendrix; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Joann Hill and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kit was born in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late Walter Eli McQueen and Mary Irene Farthing McQueen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Midge” McQueen; a son, Kit Brian McQueen; and a great grandson, Timothy James Vaughn.
Kit was a loving father, papaw, husband and brother and a member of Big Springs Church of Christ. He was self-employed and a bus driver and a member of the Moose Lodge and the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge. Kit enjoyed camping with family and traveling the country.

2524 ELIZABETHTON - Larry Austin Vance, age 72, of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was the son of the late Billy A. Vance and Vera Lee Julian Vance. Larry was the founder/owner of Advanced Heat Pump Systems and was still active in his business. He was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church and served as trustee, a sunday school teacher and worship leader. Larry was a Boy Scout Leader for over 20 years. He loved to share his knowledge of nature and had a mischievous and fun side to him. Larry enjoyed gospel bluegrass music. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Heaton Creek and cooking meals in his cook shack for family and friends. His family, church family and friends were the most important things in his life.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ron Dale Vance and Danny Ray Vance. 2525 ELIZABETHTON - Larry Dwight Reece, 70, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late McDonald & Bernice Elliott Reece. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children: Carla Reece and daughter, Cindy Carlock. Dwight was a 1969 graduate of Unaka High School and Herman Robinson Vocational School. He was a lifelong cattle farmer. Dwight was cattleman of the year in 2009. He served with the 776th Maintenance Company during the Gulf War. He served 23 years in the National Guard. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge. Dwight attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church. He loved camping with his family.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Seth G. & Clara Ina Sheffield White. Larry was a 1960 graduate of Unaka High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. Larry was an educator and teacher for 31 years. He received his degree in Social Studies & Education from West Texas State, Canyon, Texas and his Master Degree in Administration at East Tennessee State University. He began his career of teaching at Dimmitt High School, Dimmitt, Texas, then to Madison County High School, Madison, Virginia where he was a teacher and basketball coach, then to Elizabethton High School where he taught history and was Head Basketball Coach for several years, he also served as Principal at TA Dugger Junior High School, Elizabethton, his last school was Boones Creek Middle School where he was Principal. Larry was a former member of the Elizabethton Civitan Club. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church but in recent years he had been attending Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years: Wynell Barnes White who died August 6, 2006.

Survivors include his children: Marcie Strong & husband Dwayne, Ruckersville, Virginia and Lance White & wife Mary Beth, Murfreesboro, Tenn... He was also employed with Oil & Chemical Atomic Union of Unicoi. He loved working with wood. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Oliver S. & Winnie Wilson Slemp. He was a 1954 graduate of Happy Valley High School and attended Steed College. Hasferd served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In earlier years he was a truck driver and was employed in the Carpenter Shop at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Until his retirement, he was Manager at the Watauga Baptist Lodge, Ridgecrest, North Carolina. Hasferd was a 50 year member of Watauga Masonic Lodge #622 and was a member of Jericho Shrine Temple, Kingsport. He was a member and former Chairman of the Deacon Board at Oak Street Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Hugh Slemp.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Emma Jean Fair Slemp. A Daughter: Valencia Greenwell, Elizabethton. A Son: Greg Slemp, Elizabethton. 2529 ELIZABETHTON - Lennie Michael “Mike” Cole, age 68, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord following a short illness on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mike was born in Avery County, North Carolina, the son of the late Lennie and Alma (Ollis) Cole. In addition to his parents, Mike was also preceded in death by two sisters, Annis Cole Hendrick and Linda Hartley; and an infant sister, Peggy Sue Cole.

Mike was 4th generation to work on ETWNC and served 25 years in the propane business as a service technician. He was above all else a family man, loving husband, father and papaw. Mike was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed camping, fishing, collecting antiques and attending his grandchildren’s ballgames.

Those left to cherish Mike’s memory include his loving wife of 49 years, Zeola (Blevins) Cole; his beloved daughters, Lori (Travis) Royston and Lisa (Matthew) Hayes all of Elizabethton; the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Kaysi Royston, Caleb Royston and Cash Royston; his loving dog, Smokie; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2023 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Brandon Young, Pastor Jimmy Holtsclaw and Pastor Steve Holtsclaw officiating. 2530 ELIZABETHTON - Leota Holsclaw, age 83, of Elizabethton, TN went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late, James “Poga” Monroe Potter and Sarah Catherine Hopson Potter. Leota retired as a Medical Secretary for Dr. Eugene Galloway. She was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ and Graduate of Elizabethton High School. She enjoyed going to Elizabethton ballgames, traveling, entertaining, cooking and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.
In addition to her parents, Leota was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Willie Holsclaw; brother, Bud Potter; sister, Eula Mae Hodge and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in law. Leslie attended Hampton High School. Everyone that knew Les knew he was a wheeler-dealer in cars. Les loved cars and camping. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Gene Head, Hannah Carter, Viola Morgan, Ernest Head and Ella Mae Jackson.

A native of Carter County, she was the last surviving child of the late Henry & Crecy Peters Colbaugh and lived her entire life in the Carter Community. Lillie Belle was a graduate of Unaka High School and was a lifetime member of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years: C.W. Rambo, a daughter: Pamela Rambo Hicks, four brothers: Luther, Arthur, Kelsie and Herbert Colbaugh and a sister: Margaret Hardin. She was loved by everyone one that knew her.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Carl & Tina Morton Humphrey. Linda was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, and had one year of college at Milligan. She worked as a cook at Happy Valley High School for 21 years. Linda was a member of the Red Hat Society and TOPS. She was a member of Big Springs Church of Christ and attended East Side Free Will Baptist Church. Linda was also preceded by two brothers: Earl Humphrey and Sammy Humphrey.

A native of Butler, he was a son of the late John Hamilton Kyte, Jr. & Georgia Anna Smith Kyte. He was a 1958 graduate of Happy Valley High School, he had a BS Degree in Health Education and an Associate Degree in Nursing from East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Army. He was a retired RN at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Jack Kyte.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years: Sandra Treadway Kyte. His Brothers: Johnny Kyte, and Rick Kyte. His sisters: Brenda Lynn and Phyllis Gouge. His brothers-in-law: Turby Treadway and Curtis Lynn. Several nieces & One Nephew.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Robert and Eva Kate Smith Holly. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, aunt & friend to all. She was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Harrison "Skip" Scalf who died June 12, 2001, by a son: Robert Dale "Bo" Scalf and her daughter: Kathy Diane Scalf who also passed away on March 19, 1985, and her brothers & sisters: Eugene Holly, Charles Holly, Glen Holly, Lawrence Holly, Gordon Holly, Jr, Hazel Holly Nave, Lucy Ruth Holly, Florence Holly Fletcher, Francis Holly Willis and Margaret Holly Carriger.

She was Co-Owner of Treasure Chest Ceramic & Porcelain Shop for several years. She loved working in her flowers and in her garden. Peanut was a member of Eastside Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Norman L. Greer who passed away December 24, 2016, by a brother: Roscoe Elliott and three sisters: Ruth Maines, Gertie Nave and Ivan Elliott.

Lois loved Blue Grass Music. She was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church but attended Valley Forge Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Ward and two sisters: Wilma Hampton and Carol Treadway.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Paul & Maude Hyder Carden. Lona was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a retired employee of The Raytheon Corporation after 27 years of service. Lona was also a beautician having worked at Mary Lee Beauty Shop for several years. Lona also served as a beautician at Memorial Funeral Chapel for over 35 years. Until her illness she was an active in her church, East Side Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Junior Malone and a son, Terry Malone.

2540 ELIZABETHTON - Loretta Peters Colbaugh, age 76, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at her residence. Loretta was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Brooks Clyde Peters and Iona Lee Cable Peters.

Loretta was an active pastor's wife of 49 years, her most precious moments were the birth of her son, her grandson and being a loving and devoted pastor's wife. She had worked at Great Lakes Research as an executive assistant and retired from the Social Security Administration. Loretta was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Unaka High School and enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, working in her flowers and bird watching. Most of all she loved cooking lunches for her family on Sundays and loved assisting with her church activities.

Those left to cherish her wonderful memory include her husband of 55 years, Ray Colbaugh, of the home; her son, Kevin Brooks Colbaugh; her grandson, Rev. Nicholas Colbaugh and wife Lynae; a sister, Sue Turbyfill and husband Wayne; her nieces, Shirlene Turbyfill and Kayla Turbyfill; a step granddaughter, Kalyee Carrier; a step grandson, Tyler Carrier and wife Renya; and a nephew, David Turbyfill.

She was born in North Carolina to the late Arlie Eggers and Mae Eggers. Carolyn was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing games, reading her bible and working crossword puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Eugene Pierce; sister, Louise Whitehead and brother, Cecil Eggers. Lucy was born in Carter County to the late James and Ethel Potter Green. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Billy Joe Guinn; a son, Bill Allen Guinn; two daughters, Kathy Hardin and Linda Sommers; four brothers, Emmett Green, James Jr. Green, Dickie Green and Dallas Green; one sister, Nancy Burton; and a brother-in-law, Bennie Webb.

Lucy was a loving, Christian woman who loved everyone. She shown her light of love on all those around her. Lucy was a member of Upper Gap Creek Free Will Baptist Church and had been an employee of Volunteer Blind Industries. She enjoyed gardening, canning, making pies, cooking, spending time with her family and fellowship with her church.

Those left to cherish her memories include two daughters, Brenda Hardin and Jean Bradley (Robbie), all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Harold Green (Barbara), of North Carolina and Steward Green (Katherine), of Michigan; four sisters, Ruth Webb, of Piney Flats, Mary Lou McKinney (R.C.), of North Carolina, Norma Jean Arnett and Hazel Chambers, both of Roan Mountain; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. 2543 ELIZABETHTON - Lula Dorothy Lett, "Dottie", age 81 of Elizabethton, passed away on, Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Dottie was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Bonnie Stout Nave and Worley Milburn Nave, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, JoAnn Rash; two brothers, Worley Nave, Jr. and James Nave; two infant twin siblings; a grandchild, Jenna Claymon and a step-granddaughter, Charlene Cox.

Dottie was a long time member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. She cooked Wednesday night meals for the church and always participated in Bible School activities. She was a very devoted Christian even to her last days. Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put others before herself.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, James "Broad" Lett, of the home; two sons, Phillip Claymon and wife, Michell, of Elizabethton; Gary Claymon, of Elizabethton; two step-children, Reggie Lett and wife, Kathy, of Bluff City; Sharon Russell, of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Angelia Claymon Hurley and husband, Aaron Hurley, of Piney Flats; Michael Claymon, of Elizabethton; Kelsie Butler and fiancé Spencer Feathers, of Johnson City; Leesha Whistine and significant other, Greg, of Johnson City; two great-granddaughters, Alexis Claymon and Ava Claymon, both of Piney Flats; and a sister, Della Duvall, of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and other grandchildren also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Lett will be conducted on Friday, April 13, 2018, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Jayson Hoagland officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Willie Horton and Mr. Aaron Hurley. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel on Friday prior to the service.

The graveside and interment service will be conducted on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 12:00 PM at East Tennessee Cemetery. Active pallbearers will Greg Garland, Spencer Feathers, Aaron Hurley, Reggie Lett, Gary Claymon, Phillip Claymon and Michael Claymon. 2544 ELIZABETHTON - Lulean Elizabeth Dolan Emmert, 95, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in the Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Roan Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Raymond & Macie Nelson Dolan. Mrs. Emmert was a homemaker who loved working in her garden and cooking. She was a member of the Big Springs Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Arnold E. Emmert, a son: Roy G. Emmert, two grandsons : Kit Brian McQueen and Donnie Emmert and one granddaughter: Renee Birchfield, four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include Two Daughters & Sons-In-Law: Mary "Midge" & Kit McQueen and Brenda & Randy Crowe, all of Elizabethton. Five Granddaughters: Melissa Buxton, Donna Vaughn, Kristen Colon, Sharon Tipton and Robin Causby. Two Grandsons: Nathan Crowe and Chris McQueen. Several Great Grandchildren, Several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Glen Layfield, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be her church family. The family would like to express a very special "Thank You" to the entire staff of Pine Ridge Care Center for the excellent care our mother received during her stay there.

2545 ELIZABETHTON - Lynn Montgomery, age 75, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Lynn was born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee to the late George “Champ” Montgomery and Anna Mae Heaton Montgomery. In addition to his parents, Lynn was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Montgomery and an infant brother, James Roscoe Montgomery.

Lynn was a retiree of Kennametal Industries where he worked as a mechanic. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era. Lynn was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, farming and using his tractor, but spending time with his family was the most important part of his life.

Those left to remember and cherish Lynn’s memory include his wife of 54 years, Betty (Jenkins) Montgomery of the home; his son, Jeff (Margaret) Montgomery of Johnson City; his daughter, Tina (David) Whitehead of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Whitney (Logan) Buckles and Josh Hyatt; one great grandson, Luke Buckles; one sister, Marie Moody of Blowing Rock, NC; a sister-in-law, Jean Montgomery of Elizabethton and a special sister-in-law, Nell Jenkins also of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A time for friends to sign the guest register book and pay their respects will be conducted from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2023 and from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Lynn’s life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section) with Reverend Mark Fowler officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Montgomery, David Whitehead, Logan Buckles, David Harrison, Shannon Burchett, Scott Montgomery and Andy Anderson. 2546 ELIZABETHTON - M E “Milt” Fair, age 88, of Elizabethton, died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 21, 1933 in Carter County and was the son of the late Dave and Annie Hampton Fair. He was a member of the Centerview Church of Christ. M E was a well-known retired car dealer as the owner of Fair’s Motors on West Elk Avenue. His love for horses was shown as he owned many horses and rode many horse trails in East Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Dennis Fair, four sisters, Edith Pierce, Eulee Carden, Margaret Greene and Helen James, seven brothers, Conley Fair, Jarvis Fair, Clarence Fair, Luther Fair, John Fair, Winifred Fair and L D Fair.
He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life service for M E “Milt” Fair will be conducted at 2:00 P M Saturday, January 8, 2022 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home-Elizabethton with Mr. Tony Hoss, Minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jerry Pierce, soloist.
The committal service in the Garden of Gethsemane at Happy Valley Memorial Park will follow the service.

2547 ELIZABETHTON - Margaret "Louise" Bowling Taylor, age 78, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the Waters of Roan Highlands. Louise was born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee on August 17, 1941 to the late Robert L. Bowling and Lena Bowling Markland. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Taylor, in 1997; and two sisters, Bonnie Arnett and Lillie Markland.

Louise was a member of New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

2548 ELIZABETHTON - Margaret Brewer Hodge, 98, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Vilas, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Rhudy & Arvilla Minton Brewer. She had lived a number of years in Carter County. She was a homemaker and loved to cook. Mrs Hodge was a member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: Floyd “Chick” Hodge. She was the last of 8 children.

Survivors include her children: Glenda Fritts, Diane Timbs & husband Gary, and Carol Pierce & husband Robert all of Elizabethton. Six Grandchildren: Brian Fritts, Michael Fritts & wife Heather, Melanie Moore & husband Dan, Karen Deloach & husband Brandon, Rachel Dunlap & husband Eric and Amy Pierce & Fiance Dustin LaFollette. Seven Great Grandchildren: Dylan, Zachary, Isaac, Kaylynn, Jeremiah, Emily and Parker. Several nieces & nephews.

2549 ELIZABETHTON - Margaret Christine Jones Chambers, 86, of Elizabethton went to Glory on Labor Day, September 4, 2017.

Christine graduated from Unicoi High School and Steed Business College. She retired from the tax department of Johnson City, TN. She was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church; she enjoyed working with the children's group and served many years as a treasurer for Maggie Kyte Circle. Christine loved spending time with her family, church friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed needlepointing, canning, gardening, and cooking a Sunday dinner for all that showed up. She was a daughter of Sam Henry Sr. and Nola Banks Jones.

She was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters. The 23rd of September she would have been married to Jack Anderson Chambers from Tiger Creek for 61 years. Also left to cherish her memories are Ken and Brenda Ford of Unicoi. Sam and Carrie Ford and Anderson of Telford. Jacob Ford and fiancé, Brandey Buttke of Unicoi. Jeff and Susan Chambers of Elizabethton. Daniel and Vikki Chambers and Ayden and Cooper of Johnson City. Jason and Elizabeth Chambers, Nolan, Weston and Adelynn of Elizabethton. Funeral services will begin at 7pm at Oak Grove Christian Church. Graveside services will be Friday the 8th at 10:45 at the VA cemetery in JC. Those wishing to follow in procession to the graveside may meet at 10:00 am at Memorial Funeral Home in Elizabethton, TN. Services will be held by Dr. Ted Thomas and Pastor Estel Williams. Music will be under direction of Hunter and Sally Berry.

2550 ELIZABETHTON - Margaret Grindstaff, 88, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2022. She was a native of Carter County, TN., the daughter of the late D.C. and Laurie Greene Patrick. She was of the Freewill Baptist Faith. In addition, to her parents she is preceded by her husband, Howard Grindstaff; two brother: Don and Walter Patrick and a sister Willie Andees.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Robin Sams (Glen) and her two sons: Gary Grindstaff (Jennifer) and David Grindstaff (Libby). She will be missed by her grandchildren: Madison Bowman, Gary Sams, Justin Grindstaff and Ayden Grindstaff and great grandchildren: Taylor, Jarred, Patrick, Charlie, and Noah. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and two special nieces” Marie Frazier and Lois Andes.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2022 at the Blevins Cemetery with Pastor Doug Hinshaw, Officiating and Justin Grindstaff and Gary Sams presenting special remarks. Active Pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home at 1 p.m. are: Joe Bowman, Glen Sams, Steve Cannon, Jacob Cannon, Gary Sams, and Justin Grindstaff. There will be a Registration of Presence for Friends from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. prior to the service. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Signature Health and the doctors and nurses at Sycamore Shoals Hospital for the great care that was provided to Margaret.
